i love that you are finding these old pulling trucks and hearing the stories of how they started out and what it was like back in the day. my Grandpa ran around with Jon Boden who had the Studley Studebaker and he said the Blue Ox was a truck that always ran pretty well and could give them a run for their money

I don’t specifically remember the Blue Ox but I attended a lot of pulls in the southern middle Tennessee and north Alabama when I was a kid during the early,mid and late 80’s.I love watching videos like this that bring up old memories.

I wish it had the original frame under it when Butthead built it but we're trying to find it, and I think the axles are actually heavy duty pulling type axles that are in that chassis on the video

Dude! Unreal ! . I used to see this truck in pulling power magazine from one issue to the next switching back and forth from modified to super mod . Now we ok it was a transformer between classes . That's so awesome . It's just a shame it's sitting there like that . They should have legend classes that tour the US and it should be in it along with many others .

The wife said “you found it, load it up and take it home” lol. Wish these old rigs had a better fate than most of them get. I think maybe people buy them and don’t realize what it takes to run one. So they get parked and resold once the novelty is gone and realization sets in. We pull small tire minis and garden tractors locally. The amount of time, money, and work it takes is insane. Can’t imagine running and being competitive on a national level! So cool you found it!

I absolutely love videos like this. It's pretty cool going through the journey with y'all. I remember seeing this truck when I was a kid. Its a possibility i was at the silverdome when it pulled one night along with the monster trucks.
@robguysgarage5422 you're welcome and I think it will. The sad part is there's no saving the original paint. The way its flaked up is because of all the different layers when it was originally done. It's like a quarter inch of paint. Lol I do hope the guy gets it painted and not do a wrap.

Randy Petro had two convertible 4wd trucks back in these days also. The Original Buckeye Hauler and Milsap Magic trucks were both set up to convert to the blower class.
@@robguysgarage5422 yes, I know that the Milsap Magic truck is still around, but was painted. It’s now the “Menace” truck. Chris Kolb owns it. My dad owned it for a while when Randy first sold it off.
Nice find I always loved orange blossom pulling truck this was a nice truck at one time could be restored back to its glory the frame is the import part you got that
I was subscribed to you so I think I did but I just seen it so I’m gonna watch it over again I always give you a thumbs up it’s wild because growing up in the late 70s early 1980s every thing was monster trucks tractor pulls seeing these beasts of trucks lighting up the stadium or arena with the sleds behind them I could sit on the floor for hours looking at books with pulling trucks all them hand painted paint jobs looked out of this world that frame is old school technology build so well just seeing the frame boxes in with that rear axle brackets all welded up makes you think of all the guys back then traveling the country with trailers doing these sports the story’s they could tell us if only all of them was still here rip to the truck pulling fathers they started it all I hope some day these tractor pulls makes a huge come back it would be cool if they had them with monster trucks again god bless you for the work you do getting these trucks to the right places to be returned to there former glory Them Guys welded every thing like it was going to pull the gold gate bridge lol you got the heart to bring it all back all the older generations who did this back then just put that fire in all our hearts the part that made them Come alive was there individual paint scenes it would be nice to get that paint job air brushed back perfect or repainted all together then get decals made god bless be safe and thanks again

I’m 52 now also and remember seeing this truck at my first truck & tractor pull back when I was about 11 years old at the Rosemont Horizon near Chicago when it was the NHRTPA before USHRA took over. All seats were general admission and it was always sold out. Also remember seeing the Orange Blossom Special 2 pull during intermission. Have you ever thought about tracking down Lee Farrell’s 427 Big Iron Ford? That was also a very iconic truck from this era. Last I heard someone was trying to restore it.
Very cool, i did this sort of video with the Orange Blossom Special also in case you haven't seen it, the 427 truck seems to be in high demand, I know it's in MN, so may have to take a cruise out there one weekend and see if i I can track it down, thanks for watching!

I remember seeing this truck pull in ESPN. It's a shame it's been reduced to this. Would love to see it restored, and not a patina restoration either. Chassis, mechanical, bodywork and paint and interior. It deserves it.
I talked with the new owner as I am selling him a donar truck. He found the original painter of the truck and the original engine builder for the restoration. He won't disappoint

@@robguysgarage5422 oh my bad it looked like a Ford 9inch from what I could see definitely a third member type axle housing like a 9 inch is and there tough as can be I just never liked those type differentials they was kinda loud and I just always liked the carrier type like GM used and Dana used as well that with axle truss welded or bolted around them was bullet proof in my book....
I certainly hope to, I'm in good communication with the new owner so he's going to let me know when he starts working on it next year, thanks for watching
You should try to find "care bear" Jeff durfey" was owner operator. Rip. About 6yrs ago.. Out of berthoud Colorado. I belive it was a 1976 f-250 ran the outlaw pulling class. Traveled all over. Real neat truck.
It made the rear axle narrower than the front and the rear tires could grip fresh dirt and not the ruts the front tires had just dug, thanks for watching!
If they need some parts I have some old ih trucks they are more then welcome to come look at them and see if there is anything they want. I am putting together a diesel pulling truck that will use an 74 ih truck body.

One of the coolest parts I noticed about that truck was that it still had the original ih axles in it

There is a super mod class that still runs extended wheel base here in KY . A lot of these guys pulled back in the day with obs

I have pituers some where of this truck at Denver coliseum probably 78 79. Live in reno now no real pulling to speek of, sure miss those days.

Damn it's gotta Ford 9inch I figured it would have a Chevy 14 bolt 1 ton rear differential with a torsion locker or ARB or Auburn air locker
