Here are some fun facts I discovered whilst researching this:
(1) Planar binding can summon any extra-planar creature in 2e, not just beings from the Outer Planes. Go wild with elementals!
(2) There is not a set time the binding lasts for on a check success? A critical success states 24 hours, so presumably a lot less than that.
(3) Infernal Pact lets devils summon stronger kin, so a weak devil can work up to a pit fiend via intermediaries surprisingly quickly!
(4) Deliberately botching a difficult planar binding ritual is the fastest way for a GM to incorporate eldritch Lovecraftian horrors into your game ;)
