I've come to realize I'd make for a dangerous resident of Golarion because I'm consistently fascinated with lore like this regardless of whether it's good or wicked. As always I especially enjoy these excellent planar lore videos and I look forward to more in the series.
to be fair i think self-preservation would kick in as soon as half of these scary fictions became real. though i suppose living in golarion is dangerous enough in and of itself

When talking about devils, one cannot avoid the topic of infernal contracts. I'm surprised you skipped the phistophilus devils, whod deal with them. It would be interesting to understand how they work and what they can do.
You're right, I could probably do a whole video just on diabolical contracts. I didn't cover that at all in this video. Maybe that can be an add-on to a video about the Hellknights who effectively have a contract with a diabolical patron rather than being conventional worshippers.

Yes and no. At the one hand yes, there's lots of it, but at the other hand, no because there's much overlap between PF and DnD for one, and regular lore that's been just shifted or simplified from real life. It's similar to WoW, from an outside perspective it has massive lore, but if you simply link X to Y (for example, all Old Gods as Lovecraftian "theme") then you'd realize there's not that much "original" lore. Which is fine, when your goal is to make an expansive world with many themes to house many adventures of many players, but not so much fine when people take these themes and attribute them to WoW/PF/DnD as original, without ever learning about the actual original works that made up those themes.

When talking about evil deities, I find it important to figure out what benefit the worship of these fiends can bring to their followers. This benefit of course comes with a great price, but if there were no benefit at all, no one would worship them. And this remains a problem for me with the archdevils: they have disctint persoanlities and interests, but it's never explained what boons they grant to their followers that may be enticing enough so that mortals decided to damn their souls.
For real-world parallels, I've often thought of historical dictatorships or violently zealous/hateful systems of belief/politics. For instance devils would probably fit in rather well in historically fascist regimes. Demons would probably do well in a crime cartel or street gang situation. Even in today's world there are folks who will willingly hate or harm others for the sake of their political and religious beliefs. The mindset that "my harmful attitude/actions are justified because of my beliefs or how I've been treated" most closely mirrors the worship of evil in PF IMO.
I think a lot of folks watch these videos and assume player knowledge = character knowledge, but it doesn't. The vast, vast majority of people that worship devils probably don't even know they are worshipping devils. Its a slippery slope scenario, where there deity asks them to do increasingly dubious things but also fulfills promises of real power.
I love how in place of an actual picture of the Lady of Dis, u just put a picture of a disabled lawyer from a world where contracts r magically binding, Teysa Karlov from Magic: the Gathering, well this art is specifically from the card “Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts”. She is a great example of how u need not be physically physically threatening to be a scary person or to mess with.
Thanks, i actually "fell in love" with the lore of D&D about hell and Abyss and the Blood War. So i was a little sceptical about how Paizo's version gona be. Your English is great! I also love the Blood War of Planescape DnD, so like you I'm enjoying the Pathfinder version. I especially enjoyed how they made the major conflict law vs. chaos instead of the usual good vs. evil. I hope they'll eventually have a major conflict on par with the Blood War. Right now all the lore I know points to a "Cold War" situation between upper and lower planes and not a whole lot else. Maybe I'm wrong though and MythKeeper can make a video about interesting specific battles.

Baalzebul obviously comes from Beelzebub, Lord of Flies and one of the titles given to satan. When I once asked, why it's the Lord of Flies, I got following explanation: a Lord is someone, to whom people crowd around, and where do flies gather in crowds? Around dung. So "Lord of Flies" basically bears the meaning "Piece of sh*t". I'm not entirely sure, if that's historically correct, but it was memorable. Belial is also one of the titles given to satan, and means something like "good for nothing" or "useless".
Demodands is on the list. For Titans... I think for right now you'll have to settle for the little you get in the Giants video and in the Planes video. I feel like I've talked around the Titans a lot already, even if they haven't gotten their own video.
Looking forward to qlippoths! Of course, do the outsider races in any order you see fit. Here's a thought: the Outer Sphere is simply a foreign speck suspended in an unimaginably vast Far Realm, slowly being dissolved. The tunnels and depths of the Abyss are the cracks resulting from the dissolution of ordinary reality, and the qlippoths are the 'Welcome Wagon' reps.

Barbatos is the strangest devil. If you like the idea that the archdevils were chosen by Asmodeus because they each represent a part of him, then consider that Barbatos is inscrutible and unknowable, which could be said of Asmodeus too.

Yeah I know, its so random its kind of great. Some thoughts on this: Maybe that's why the Abyss has had a lot of success invading Golarion (through the Worldwound) but Hell has not made so much headway? Or perhaps since Asmodeus is the sponsor of Cheliax and its a great source of souls he doesn't necessarily want to conquer the world outright and Alichino has a more complicated objective that simple conquest here. Its also worth noting that in Starfinder (spoilers!) Golarion doesn't actually exist any more, so at some point in the future it will either get destroyed, pulled out of the timestream or moved to another plane (TBD). Maybe this goofy jester devil actually wins in the end?
I was reading a conversation thread on here and you raise an interesting point about player vs character knowledge. As a player it's good to have this sort of world lore knowledge and meta knowledge: it helps you build either a story or a character that you're excited about and feels consistent with the world. But a lot of the lore we learn as players isn't necessarily common knowledge. It's interesting to think how much of this stuff an average character or npc might know.
I would assume any character without training in the Religion skill knows the names of the mains gods worshipped in their region and their rough spheres of influence (because thats common knowledge) but has no knowledge of any of the more detailed stuff and certainly couldn't name the archdevils, never-mind have knowledge of the infernal dukes. A character that has a +10 or more in Religion will probably know not just the names, but also something of there personalities. They'll also probably have acquired some knowledge of how the afterlife actually works and what the real implications are of religious worship. A character with a +20 or more has an epic understanding of religion, maybe equivalent to the knowledge of the human player, or perhaps even more sophisticated (since for us the game is an abstraction and we don't have to worry about the science and metaphysics of Golarion's faith systems).

I think if I was running I'd also give a little more leeway for in character knowledge for Clerics and Champions or a character who was raised in a religious institution. I feel like it would make sense for characters like that to know a bit more about at least one deity. I think I'd probably modulate the available in character info on devils depending on the game, the bad guys and the setting. But it's got me wondering how common information on the hells and devils would be outside of the people who worship them? It would make some sense for followers of opposing deities to have some knowledge. But then again it seems like the kind of thing that characters would get suspicious about if they found out you knew.
Kytons are from the shadow plane! But yes, I'm totally going there. I think I'll probably get the Asura first in a video covering Asura, Divs & Qlippoths (the other 'hellish' residents) and then give Kytons (or Velstracs now, goodbye OGL) a whole video just for themselves because they are awesome.

Love, love, love Erecura. Just like the idea that there is a Neutral, maybe even good-leaning goddess, that just happens to live in Hell. Definitely underused deity.
Canonically - unspecified. However my 2 cents, is not good. Mammon is a god of greed, which means he promotes the hoarding of wealth. Abadar is a god of commerce, so he promotes investment. While he does encourage his followers to 'spend money, to make money' he also believes trade in general betters society overall. He's also a god of civilization and culture, and the exchange of ideas. Mammon probably feels to him like a corruption of his ideals, and this would probably get under his skin. (But this is just my 2 cents!)
The Worldwound video is not out yet I'm afraid, but it will be coming out in the next month or so! I also have a Mendev video coming with some details about the crusades there too.
It struck me as really odd that in D&D, all the nobility of the Hells were male and the only female nobles acted as consorts to the archdevils. Pathfinder apparently adopted this as well. The demons of the Abyss were more egalitarian.

@@TheMythKeeper Gotcha, the reason many people, myself included, are far more harsh on channel memberships then Patreon is that unlike Patreon TH-cam does some really unfair things regarding the algorithm for channels using it's membership feature. So it gives people who monetize through TH-cam an easier time in the algorithm then people who don't monetize or who monetize in 3p ways. We just don't want to see TH-cam became more of a hellscape where you need to monetize your channel to even be seen in search results and recommended videos.

Great question. For a Wrath of the Righteous, I'd jump right in and watch my Worldwound region deep dive video. Its the best video to get you right into the lore of that game.

I wonder what the relationship between Mammon and Abadar is?
Canonically - unspecified. However my 2 cents, is not good. Mammon is a god of greed, which means he promotes the hoarding of wealth. Abadar is a god of commerce, so he promotes investment. While he does encourage his followers to 'spend money, to make money' he also believes trade in general betters society overall. He's also a god of civilization and culture, and the exchange of ideas. Mammon probably feels to him like a corruption of his ideals, and this would probably get under his skin. (But this is just my 2 cents!)

Hey, you try and find a picture of an angel with metal wings that _isn't_ Archangel!
It struck me as really odd that in D&D, all the nobility of the Hells were male and the only female nobles acted as consorts to the archdevils. Pathfinder apparently adopted this as well. The demons of the Abyss were more egalitarian.
This is definitely one of those legacy things that if they were recreating the setting from scratch they would almost certainly do differently.

Why are you using TH-cam's system over a site like Patreon?
@@aevum6667 Just because I was already on TH-cam and it all seemed conveniently built into their service. I'm still pretty new at all this. The channels been up less than a year, but maybe a Patreon will go up in the future.
@@TheMythKeeper Gotcha, the reason many people, myself included, are far more harsh on channel memberships then Patreon is that unlike Patreon TH-cam does some really unfair things regarding the algorithm for channels using it's membership feature.
So it gives people who monetize through TH-cam an easier time in the algorithm then people who don't monetize or who monetize in 3p ways.
We just don't want to see TH-cam became more of a hellscape where you need to monetize your channel to even be seen in search results and recommended videos.
