jsmall10671: Excellent choice! There are just so many brilliant quotable lines from Niles in this video, but if I had to choose, that line is definitely one of my favourites!
Every time I feel apprehensive about something or a situation is about to be awkward I remember this line by Niles: " I'm far too successful to feel awkward". And even thought I don't think I'm exceptionally successful, it always helps me. This quote had a big influence on me.
People could use any positive word about themselves that they wanted to: "I'm far too cute to feel awkward." "I'm far too fun to be awkward.", etc Or make it funny, "I'm far too silly to be awkward." "I'm far too oblivious to be awkward." It has endless possibilities, though some people (like myself) have to be careful not to take self-deprecation too far.
More than a foil it allowed the Frasier character to adapt from Cheers to Frasier so easily and smoothly. When Frasier first appeared on Cheers he was Niles in every which way and direction but the character adapted to the bar scene that was Cheers. When the spin off happened it allowed Frasier to develop from the bar scene to being adaptable to Niles who was also his best friend as well as brother in Frasier. Niles did so much for the Frasier character development and they were able to find a character that looked like Frasier from the early seasons of Cheers.

I have watched Frasier completely more than 50 times. That’s my only show on Hulu or Netflix to watch. I finish the last episode. Start over again. That has been my TV for the past few years. When I was younger, I couldn’t appreciate the show as much. I had watched it once. But in recent years I have watched it on repeat 40-50 times. Some days, I watch it for 3-4 hours. It’s like a background music for my daily activities.
Timothy Antoine I have a good life. Why shouldn’t I enjoy a show that I like? It’s not like I watch the show while teaching classes at the university. I watch it while I’m cooking or trying to sleep.
Ruth Ann Monti I have the set. But on dvd. Not streaming. I watch it while working and waiting and whatever mostly outside. Also, now I’m doing it on Hulu. And I watch other things too.
One of the best sitcoms ever! I'm so glad it's still on the Hallmark Channel even if it is on after midnight. If you can't sleep you can find an episode of Frasier. Perfect timing of lines delivered it was just great!!!!
Epitome of sitcoms. Nothing will match it. My girlfriend begged me for days to watch the show with her from the beginning because she loves it. After watching the first episode Were on season 4. I also remember my family watching this show when I was younger and I never understood anything because it all went over my head. Now being 30 years old I understand all the wittiness, snide remarks, Sarcastic comebacks and jokes I never understood otherwise and I absolutely love it. This show is, classy, touching and very easy to binge. I love everything about it. Such a wonderfully made show.
Why do I like these two upper class snobs so much? I don't have much in common with them and yet I like to hear their banter and stuff they talk about I couldn't afford to even know of?
The whit and sharp-edge banter (great writing!) carries over to any genre. It’s basically a high brow version of Sanford and Son. I can relate to selling junk and living in a sketchy area as much as I can relate to purchasing a bottle of Chateau de Snob and living in a luxury apartment - but the family issues, one-upping, etc are universal. Watching 5%ers having 95%er problems is endearing, somehow. For all their airs, they’re still us :)
This was my Dad’s favourite show at one time & I became hooked myself. I was in school then. I’ve watched reruns of Frasier a few times, & it aged so well. Niles Crane was my favourite character and no one but David Hyde Pierce could have played him to that level of perfection. My favourite sub plot was Niles & Daphne’s love story. This being September 2021, it’s appropriate to remember David Angell one of the creators of Frasier that passed away on 9/11, onboard American Arlines Flight 11. I thank him for this masterpiece. It’s a special show for me.
David really ought to have been the breakout star. Not that the rest of the cast didn't do a good job, but he was simply on another level. Between him and the character of Niles, he's the best thing on the show.
I'd have to disagree. Kelsey is the best actor I have ever seen. As even David conceded at the Emmys, it's a lot harder to be the lead than a supporting actor. Supporting actors can be outrageous, but if you don't have that stabilizing force for the supporting actor then the show craters. Don Knotts is considered one of the best sidekicks of all time, but 30 minutes of Barney Fife every week would've killed the show.
@@rocketman0324 Kelsey was mediocre in Cheers , is mediocre in Frasier, and is mediocre in everything he's done since Frasier. He's just not very good. The recent reports about bringing Frasier back without the rest of the cast, particularly Niles, almost certainly mean we'll get to see more mediocrity.
I'll let the facts speak for themselves. The reason he got his own show is because the creator's of Cheers thought he was so good. Grammer has received at least 45 nominations for major awards and has won on 18 occasions. He has received 14 individual Emmy Award nominations for four different television shows (plus an additional two as part of the Frasier ensemble) and has won five times.
Every cast member did a splendid job of delivering grace and soul to their respective characters undoubtedly. Kudos to the writers and directors for doing such an outstanding job! A show becomes phenomenal due to its storyline and top notch acting from its cast....Love this show ❤️❤️❤️

My husband and I saw him on Broadway once and we waited for him to exit the theatre. He had the physique os a skinny 12 year old boy and nobody would recognize him on the street. Very narrow shoulders and very thin. Those suits made his character and I now always check out their immense shoulder pads!
@@maryokeefe5351 same. Saw him in "Curtains" in New York, and "La Bete" in London. After Curtains, he came out of the stage door in jeans, a sports jacket and baseball cap. He was great with the fans, though; and I even made him laugh when I waited for him after La Bete!
I’m a ‘chick’ and I thought it became boring after Niles and Daphne got together. Niles turned into a drip. They made his character nauseating, NOT feminine. He was a hell of a lot funnier when we saw the speechless effect Daphne had on him. Did the writing staff change? Because “Niles” sure did.
Kimberly Ludwig kind of makes sense when you think about it. In the earlier seasons, he was married to Maris. He starts to change when they start going through their divorce. He’s pretty different just by season 6 and they weren’t together yet. I’d be pretty snappy and probably snobby too if I were married to Maris.
@@vincek8294 Maris had a face when he married Mel, because she's exactly how I pictured Maris would be, and he did start changing after he got together with Daphne but I love Niles throughout the whole series, and if he never got together with Daphne that would've been terrible, I absolutely loved them together. He just lost some of his edginess after he got together with her, maybe it was because he had a lot of pent up sexual tension and it gave him a little bit of ' attitude'. Perhaps...
He still had edge in the later seasons, the difference is we were shown more of his personality and life. When smaller characters get bigger stories, they can’t remain one sided, they need to expand. So we got to see happy, more mature, husband niles in addition to just snarky Niles. It’s the side effect of all shows that go on for as long as Fraser did. Watch friends all the way through and you see the characters expand, soften and change.

I own every season of this show, but I keep coming back to these awesome compilation vids. DHP was so fantastic as Niles Crane. The writing in the show was great, but his delivery and comedic timing made it even better. Niles will always be one of my all-time favorite characters.
That was the whole premise of the "Brother from another series" episode. Also, the reason why you had to have watched the first few seasons of Fraiser to get the joke of Cecil's response to Bart. "Guess who?" "Maris." It was the whole idea of going from psychiatry to psychotic (or criminally insane). How would it be if the psychiatrists were their patients? To be fair, that is the very paradox of what makes Fraiser such a good show. He tries to help others with their problems, yet doesn't know how to help himself. In my opinion, it is what made Fraiser and Niles so good together. Each being in the same profession, they try to lean on each other to figure out their problems. It also shows the true breakdown when each can't cope any more and use different cries for help. Frasier shuts himself away, as he is so used to dealing with others, while Niles feels he needs to be liberated and freed, a perfect example is the stripping in the coffee shop, due to an anxiety attack. Yes, I am doing what they do and analysing it, but it is such a good show.
Frasier is one of the rare sitcoms that was fresh and funny from the pilot to the series finale. David Hyde Pierce was perfect to be Frasier Crane's brother in appearance and character.

Niles will forever remain one of my all-time favourite sitcom characters.
“Hello Emerald City what’s doing what’s happing” lol Niles 😂
😆😅
The writers on this show were absolutely brilliant and hysterically funny.
When Carol Burnett insists you're the smartest show around (and one of the funniest), you know it's something special! Reminds me how much I love it!!
Every time I feel apprehensive about something or a situation is about to be awkward I remember this line by Niles: " I'm far too successful to feel awkward". And even thought I don't think I'm exceptionally successful, it always helps me. This quote had a big influence on me.
Same here and I look for a reason to use that line someday.
People could use any positive word about themselves that they wanted to: "I'm far too cute to feel awkward." "I'm far too fun to be awkward.", etc
Or make it funny, "I'm far too silly to be awkward."
"I'm far too oblivious to be awkward."
It has endless possibilities, though some people (like myself) have to be careful not to take self-deprecation too far.
@@kristypenner2753 that’s the secret. Not too far. Then it’s not funny, just boring.
niles was such a great foil for the character of frasier...between the two of them, niles is easily my favorite.
Niles and Martin are my favourites. Genius actors.
I personally liked Frasier better but Niles is a close second, they’re both good in different ways.
Let's not forget his physical comedy
Tyrone Williams the best is his solo ( ok, with Eddie) “ three valentines”
@@karenbarnett5593 Got to be the best 5 minutes of silent comedy in the whole series. Brilliant! Makes me belly-laugh every time.
Karen Barnett OMG yes! My all time favorite episode & scene- Niles performing at his finest.
When poor Niles tried to sit on the kitchen counter or the coffe grinder scene both in Frasiers kitchen. Niles had his hand in the garbage disposal.
@@scorpiosq2963 That's "three valentines" -- By far the greatest masterclass in slapstick that I have ever seen. Nile's nervous energy as he shakes his pant legs, the way he presses his pants, three times, then looks at his watch, then does it again, twice as fast...
It's all gold. Comedic gold.
Season 6, Episode 14. First scene. Must Watch.
Oh shit man, now i'll have to watch the whole series again.
I had forgotten how much I enjoyed this show. I, too, will be watching it again
Naz Osman:... shame that! You must be gutted havin to do that!!! 😂
Naz Osman I’m on season 3 again....
Naz Osman : You make it sound like it's a bad thing.
I am lol 😜😜
The greatest sitcom of all time. The absolute best writers and Kelsey and David were the greatest. Brilliant!
That show never fails to make me laugh & I've watched it so many times! I love Niles Crane, he's hilarious 😂
Frazier: “When was the last time you had an unexpressed thought?!”
Niles, with that Cheshire Cat grin: “I’m having one now.” 😏
The entire cast was brilliant, as was the writing. My favorite Niles was the burning couch/Valentine's Day episode.
Mine to😂😂😂👍👍👍
Season 6, episode 14. Always mention that when talking about this episode. People need to be able to find it quickly, because that first scene is GOLD.
Yes, mine too!
I can’t remember the season or the episode but the one where Niles is dressed like Jesus is by far my favorite
Hit‘em in the Groin With a Banjo Season 6 episode called “Merry Christmas, Mrs. Moskowitz”
“I gave him that briefcase!”
“I KNOW!” 😂🥰😂💪💕
frasier is so good, there are only a few sitcoms that makes me laugh out loud no matter how many times i watch
The best line is whenever he says that it takes him forever to fill out the name tags at his multiple personality seminar! I died!
"I dont think she likes me"
"Niles, it isn't a question of like or dislike. She despises you"
This guy are sick.
@@mmmben You must have learned English from a cartoon.
27 has to top the list: "A gesture which becomes less significant with each passing year"
Thats a burn...
It got to be 44
"I bet you two had wicked little hair pulling fights when you were tots." -brilliant!
Their reaction completes it haha
Love Bebe
the shows with BeBe were always a favorite of mine. she could get Frasier worked up and freaking out. everybody knew she was a shark and Frasier wanted a saint.
Niles clearly won
Frasier wouldn't have been as great if not for Niles.
Simply brilliant!
One of the best sitcoms and ensemble casts in tv history. Freud would be proud.
Fleur Elise Jung too 🤣
@@GoogleIsAPieceOfShit2023 Jung would like that Niles fellow, in particular. ;)
Hehehe that is true
And to think Lisa Kudrow was originally cast as Roz. Thank goodness for Peri Gilpin!
Left out my favorite:
Niles: [looks at loud, sequined, short dress] Daphne, you're not wearing that, are you?
Daphne: That's it, I'm not going.
Roz: Come on, it'll be fine. We can accessorize it.
Niles: With what - a lamp-post and the public defender?
😂 Yes, that one was hilarious!
Thanks for the memory!! So divine it must've been to be in that writers' room.
yes this is the one
I have watched Frasier completely more than 50 times.
That’s my only show on Hulu or Netflix to watch. I finish the last episode. Start over again. That has been my TV for the past few years. When I was younger, I couldn’t appreciate the show as much. I had watched it once. But in recent years I have watched it on repeat 40-50 times.
Some days, I watch it for 3-4 hours. It’s like a background music for my daily activities.
Niles and Frazier would give you the same advise get a life .
Timothy Antoine I have a good life.
Why shouldn’t I enjoy a show that I like?
It’s not like I watch the show while teaching classes at the university. I watch it while I’m cooking or trying to sleep.
Weird flex, but ok
If it's the only thing you're watching on Netflix by the whole set and save yourself a bunch of bucks!
Niles was always my favourite character, excellent collection.
I love how all of them grew into their characters...great show..
"When's the last time you had an unexpressed thought?"
"I'm having one now"
gary larson is my hero so niles just a live-boost
'I think it's borderline sleezy....let's go for it'.... Gotta love Niles!
How could you miss the line "The Crane's of Maine have got your living brain!"
Ben Bailey I died 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Love that.
One of my faves
Yeah, but that wasn't exactly a "burn" A funny line, no argument, but not a burn
Greengrocer's apostrophe.
David Hyde Pierce won 4 Emmys for playing Niles!
Well deserved!
He was also nominated a record 11 times.
Most brilliantly written and acted television comedy of all time.
Frasier is permanently on my Amazon watchlist!
Frasier is permanently on my HDD.
Kelsey Grammer and David Hyde Pierce knew nothing about wine at the start of the series, and it was actually John Mahoney who was actually the expert
That doesn't surprise me at all 😊
David isn't gay. He hasn't had penis.
@Retro Storm omg
Man Niles is hilarious, I busted a gut at some of these lines.
J.J!!! This American culture or nah?
Same!
Best American sitcom there ever was. Almost feels British.
True. It feels more like a British than American due to the amazing, quick deliveries.
@Gabe Stein
Yes. British comedies are the best and this is close.
They have mid-atlantic accents. American pronunciation with British inflections.
@@Jakeylicious7891 I'm not referring to their accents though.
@@FinneousPJ1 was responding to the 1st comment.
"I specifically ordered my macaroni cheese al dente - this lunch has been a culinary hindenberg"
One of the best written shows on television.
Why do I like these two upper class snobs so much? I don't have much in common with them and yet I like to hear their banter and stuff they talk about I couldn't afford to even know of?
😂😂😂 ditto😂😂😂
You might appreciate PG Wodehouse who made a point of poking fun at the English upper class, try watching Jeeves and Wooster.
Universal themes are universal
@@rocketman0324 All this proves is that awards are given to mediocre people and projects
That's 'all' it proves? I'm sorry, go back to your basement and keep searching for the gay gene.
It's like a masterclass in writing and acting for Wit
Roz: What's that supposed to be, some crack about how much I eat?
Niles: Absolutely not, it's a crack about your table manners.
Ryan Barrett 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Roz and Niles was at their best when they disliked each other 😅
8:07 “I do not have a fat face!”
“Oh please, I keep wondering how long you are going to store those nuts for winter!”
I love when Fraiser becomes dramatic but Niles is one is the best TV characters of all time!
Every cast member did a splendid job of delivering grace and soul to their respective characters undoubtedly. Kudos to the writers and directors for doing such an outstanding job! A show becomes phenomenal due to its storyline and top notch acting from its cast....Love this show ❤️❤️❤️
Quite the best comedy writing.
Niles was the perfect picture of the smart kid in class who was so horribly picked on that eventually he developed one hell of a nasty bite.
Best niles quips would be a better title. They're all funny but not all burns.
The best line in this series, in the first series.
Thank you niles you're a good brother and a credit to the psychiatric profession.
You're a good brother too. Now that's a burn!
David Hyde Pearce had the best suits. All of them are perfect.
Thank Paramount's wardrobe for it. XD
Niles is savage af!
I love the recurring gags about the different seminars, groups and workshops that he has to run.
he had a lot more edginess back in the earlier seasons didn't he?
Yeah, early Niles could be mean-spirited. Definitely prefer his personality in later seasons.
"You must be very proud of Frasier."
"Well, actually...no."
Dead
Think that might be my favourite 🤣
#34 "I see all those years of finishing school really paid off" - My favorite Niles Crane line BY FAR. This fucking show got me through hard times 10 years ago and I'll never forget it. Thanks for the tossed salads and scrambled eggs to cure my blues!
Me too, going through bad time due to family circumstances, I could no longer read books or even watch regular TV shows but watched Frasier every nigh and it's been like an old friend.
May I join the Hard Times 10 Years Ago -club?
I love when Bebe says they had wicked hair pulling fights and they both rub their hairlines. I love their insecurity. Best damn sitcom ever made.
For the author, author episode he skipped over the joke when niles said "while your over there mixing metaphors like a cuisinart I've made a breakthrough" 😂😂😂😂😂 it kills me everytime lol
Niles character changed a lot through out the seasons he became more humble and funnier.
The Niles "clone" Rodney was also a brilliant episode. The Henry 8th coffee cup collection smashed cup. "Anne Boleyn?" "Catherine..of..Aregon". Absolutely sublime acting
I agree!
I own every season of this show, but I keep coming back to these awesome compilation vids. DHP was so fantastic as Niles Crane. The writing in the show was great, but his delivery and comedic timing made it even better. Niles will always be one of my all-time favorite characters.
Also wonderful how well their characters were carried over to The Simpsons.
That was the whole premise of the "Brother from another series" episode. Also, the reason why you had to have watched the first few seasons of Fraiser to get the joke of Cecil's response to Bart.
"Guess who?"
"Maris."
It was the whole idea of going from psychiatry to psychotic (or criminally insane).
Alana King This analysis was on point in my opinion! 👏🏼
Frasier is one of the rare sitcoms that was fresh and funny from the pilot to the series finale. David Hyde Pierce was perfect to be Frasier Crane's brother in appearance and character.
