Latency, Ha, Ha, Ha. I hate to even bring this ancient headache up but there's latency and there's LATENCY. I'm 66 and a trained Classical and Thertre Organist. At 15 years of age I was practicing and playing on "The Mighty Wurlitzer" at the Alabama Theatre in Birmingham Alabama. The Console was in the Orchestra Pit and offset to the left. There was almost a half second delay to the right pipe chamber 100 feet away and a tenth of a second delay to the left left oioe chamber. This was mainly due to the miles of wiring which went from the console, downto the basement and back up to the pipe and instrument chambers. Were that not bad enough, the 32 Pedal pedalboard had its own delay due to the size of the pipes. Being built in the 1920's it also had a Player Piano integrated into the system as well as a complete drum kit and xylophone. You literally had to turn off your ears and mechanically make the necessary adjustments to get around the latency issues or you sounded like a first year musician. This was in the early 1970's and no one was happier than I when Organs ans Synths became Electronic and latency dissapeared for the most part. I try to share this story each time the subject of latency arises because we all fail to appreciate what technology has done for us in the past 50 years and what AI and ML will do for us in the next decade. My point is LATENCY IS A RELATIVE THING! Something none of us should ever forget.

I'm a musician that just wants to play music but all the technical stuff and latency is getting in the way of me creating... any help is appreciated from anyone x
Wait a second, how do you choose 2 Buffersizes at the same time? My Babyface generation one doesn't allow me to do such magic. Haha. Setting a specific value in Ableton affects other programs, and vice versa. [[EDIT: Seems to be Windows related! MAC can adjust two different buffersizes.]] Besides, i also can't comprehend the logic behind all this: when a DAW is already showing signs of ASIO overload and therefore you increase buffersize - how is it possible that another audioprogram can simultanuosly use the same ASIO driver, playing highly demanding plugins, at a very low buffersize? I'd love to see the same video in a real "almost ASIO overload" situation of Ableton - to see if Gigperformer even is able to use the remaining tiny resources to play latency free?
@@trjaudio as far as i know now, buffer size cannot be adjusted differently for different apps in Windows, so that's a huge disappointment for me. If someone knows how to do it, please tell me. / And i realized this workaround is only valid for exactly the situation DECAP shows: when you add SOME VSTs which increase overall latency. In the case of a real CPU/ASIO bottleneck = overloaded project, Gigperformer won't help as much, because there simply arent enough resources left to work with. So the workaround isn't perfectly working for those severe cases of CPU/ASIO overload, nonetheless, a great possibility to reduce latency - for MAC users only, sadly
@@sternenherz Just did some experimentation in reaper (I suspect I have written in your thread on RME forum, but here goes): This might have been thought of before, but I think I can solve this by opening up 2 different instances of reaper by running "File: Spawn new instance of REAPER" from the actions command. Then I set one version of Reaper to run on my ASIO drivers (I use RME hardware). Then I select the other reaper instance to use "WaveOut" drivers. Because I am using different drivers, I can set different latency. Then I record the output of one daw to the other via loopback (in RME's mixer). I can also easily cope and paste audio+midi+whatever (via shortcuts) from one instance to the other A mixing segment, that has a high "fake" buffer size. And then a recording segment that has the actual buffer size set on the sound card should be normal in every daw. I know these 2 segments wouldn't be able to share plugins, but I wouldn't care about that. As long I can have a plugin chain on my recording segment and then another on my mixing segment.
@@trjaudio hello, although this is quite interesting, i can't imagine this being a solution for reproducing DECAPs workaround, which really needs double-ASIO power for playing with low latency :/ Thanks for sharing your tests though - yes i m in the RME Forum too haha!
@@sternenherz I don’t see how it would require any more cpu? You have a finite amount of cpu power. You can use 80%percent (or whatever) of that power because you set your buffer to 1024. Setting your buffer to 1024= not being able to record without latency. But if you open up another instance of reaper, and you can record without latency. What’s not to like? (Other than a tedious work around of course). :) The other solution (the current one) would be to simply not be able to record with high buffer settings.
Yes, but can you record in a hardware synth with effect plugins midi in the DAW latency free? Such as record in a midi part and have it playback through GP4 with no latency? Then once your happy record the audio. If so I am buying. Please let me know as this would be a game changer!
I wonder if it is possible to do run Gig Performer with effects, Instruments and in parallel do some arranged looping and backing tracks in Ableton. Currently I am doing all in Ableton, having some Racks with multiple looper Devices, no direct feed through from the loopers (only when play back). When I started adding some (e.g. vocal) effects which cause delay the behavior was getting quite strange. Maybe just a small setting somewhere in Ableton but I could not fix shorthand.
Thing that isn't clear on this is the routing between GP and your Daw... If it's using the loopback on the RME, then there's no way you can set the latency in the daw high without the same happening in Gig performer, no? So this enables you to monitor a chain in GP live while adding effects that incur addional latency in your daw, which is cool, but all the fiddling around with the interface latency at the start is just to demo what latency feels like, not to suggest you can run your DAW at a high latency and GP at a low one... or am I missing something? Either way, nice idea for when live tracking on a mix session is required.
Omg, I just spend weeks making an automated collection of my soft synths in Max for Live for live sets. Can gig performer load presets from plugins on the fly?
the think that i'm looking for is to recreate an fm vocal chain for all my microphone inputs (currently 3) and to monitor back in real time the processing. so with gigperformer is really possible? because if so, i'm purchasing it NOW
Hey curious if you need rme and total mix to route gif performer into your daw? Or can I do this with my regular audio interface? Thanks in advance. I have a Mac and when I choose my audio interface in logic, it only lets me select the inputs from my interface. Thanks in advance

BUT, how do you get two different bufer sizes? i mean how can you archieve for example 2048 buffer on ableton and 64 on gig performer??? it has to do with mac or windows?

However, a system which has 8 cores & 16 gigs is a different story. the M1 is gonna be WAY different caz apple probably does the memory management completely I dunno if you guys know this trick to get ableton going faster but you can go through the samples and have them in RAM instead of running off the HDD/SSD. idk man i’ve been using ableton for 8 years now since 9 and “bouncing in place” has always been a thing, it’s just referred to as freezing and flattening tracks in ableton
Yeah just record on your normal input it won’t effect the audio coming into the daw. To record the program back into a daw you need to route it to another set of inputs
Great workflow, I love it!!! ❤ I'll play with it for sure. Check this out as well: You can achieve that as well by enabling "Options > Reduced latency when monitoring" Then you avoid the latency by sending the output of your vocal/instrument to "Ext.Out" then "1/2" (or any of your choice) bypassing groups&master plugins. Done!! You can send the audio back to your desired bus/group whenever you're done.
im trying to figure out how i can send midi out of ableton, using windows loopbe midi driver. Then into gig performer to get it to play an instrument say, omnisphere. Then route the audio back into ableton with near zero latency which im not quite managing to do im getting 77ms of delay but i cant quite figure out how to remedy it right now. if anyone has any ideas lemme know it would be cool if you had a chock full project to just send midi out of ableton then route the audio back in without latency so ableton isnt hosting the stress. maybe im missing the trick here someone enlighten me haha
The only downside is you lose midi notes and the possibility to edit midi tracks right ? How this software is able to load & play all those VST without latency and Ableton not ?

@@MRGO0OSE yes, i guess sometimes they DO listen. For the most part, it seems, they dont. :( At least that's the impression you get, when you read and participate in feature requests in their forum. Zero engagement from their side, zero communication, constant state of "who knows what they might do next?" and YEARS of waiting... I recently had the pleasure of looking into the feature requests of Loopy Pro. Although it s ONE developer, he manages to communicate with the users and he publicly shows the roadmap of development. Such a nice guy. And loopy pro rocks, BECAUSE he listens.
idk man i’ve been using ableton for 8 years now since 9 and “bouncing in place” has always been a thing, it’s just referred to as freezing and flattening tracks in ableton
@@poopyfeast I think by BIPing they mean a one click option like the MAX plugin does. But yeah I agree it exists. Resampling is a thing too
Gig Performer also records the MIDI (and audio if wanted) and it’s easy to get into the DAW
I track bass with gig performer into digital performer 11
What interface are you using?

How can you capture midi information through Gig performer with zero latency?
Can you help me!
when i click on the link it take me to google not gigper
How much it cost?
Can u track vocals and not print the effects in the daw??
Yeah just record on your normal input it won’t effect the audio coming into the daw. To record the program back into a daw you need to route it to another set of inputs
Great workflow, I love it!!! ❤ I'll play with it for sure. Check this out as well: You can achieve that as well by enabling
"Options > Reduced latency when monitoring"
Then you avoid the latency by sending the output of your vocal/instrument to "Ext.Out" then "1/2" (or any of your choice) bypassing groups&master plugins.
Done!!
You can send the audio back to your desired bus/group whenever you're done.
I’ve never had great luck with this setting. Sometimes I still get latency and things get thrown off.
Can you still run it with obs without latency?
Yes - very low latency.
im trying to figure out how i can send midi out of ableton, using windows loopbe midi driver.
Maybe i need to use gig performer in tandem with the ableton external instrument device hmmmn .
The only downside is you lose midi notes and the possibility to edit midi tracks right ? How this software is able to load & play all those VST without latency and Ableton not ?
Gig Performer can record the MIDI and audio as well. Really easy to capture based on what I’ve seen of that in their videos.
I have a 8gb MacBook Pro. Could this help me?
Also using a audient 2i2
who can help set this up with fl studio
?
I’m bouta download the trial and try it out, if I figure it out I’ll help you

How are you getting no latency with a buffer of 2048 samples? is that only on mac or can we do that on windows as well?
This Random plugin can do it... Why cant ABLETON? lol
imagine ableton comes out with a zero latency DAW
Very good video. But I can't manage to do what you did. Record in Ableton live what I play in Gig performer. I need your help. If anyone knows how to do it, I would appreciate your help!
no such thing as zero latency, that's a marketing buzzword and you should be ashamed for using it
Is this Mac only or can it be done on PC?
fire !!!
