After seeing this great video, I went and bought Gig Performer for a show I'm working on. My mate kept telling me to check Performer out, but I wasn't sure until I saw this video.
Great decision! :) Don't forget to check out Gig Performer Community (we have the Facebook group, as well). Thank you for your interest in Gig Performer!
We’re so happy to have you on board. I echo Nemanja’s above statements; the community is a super helpful place, and will be a great way to find support in your journey. Enjoy Gig Performer!
I've had gig performer loaded up on a microsoft surface to take over the duties I had using forte before....and just could not translate what I was looking to do just to get started.... and this is the EXACT video I was looking for to try and figure out how to start building the new rig....thank you so much
A few questions: 1) can I record live and then manipulate the sound in audio/midi format 2) can I play with "clips" like in Ableton 3) can I draw automation curves for midi/audio 4) I want to sing live using a vocoder or harmonyzier, then loop it and tigger it with my midi controller on the fly, can I do it on the fly? 5) if I want to switch quickly between some presets in one specific synth, lets say presset 2; 76 ; 548; 1061. Some time I want to jump one after another and sometimes from the firs one to the last one. Can I jump from the first one to the last one in one click passing all ones in the middel? 6) can I use multiple soundcards at once?

Thanks for this. I don't even have a laptop yet, but am planning to buy (a nice!) one and migrate, in the coming months, from my hardware-based keyboard rig (where the Korg Kronos is my only audio source) to one using GP and multiple vsts. For now, I will be watching as many GP tutorials as I can to get the lay of the land. I am a complete GP noob at this point. I am 5 1/2 minutes into this one (and it is very helpful). At this point, I am thinking that I may be able to think of a rackspace as somewhat analogous to a combi hosted in a SetList slot on my Kronos - where I may have one (or more) for each song - each one mapping MIDI information for each part to a sound source and patch. It's like an extra dimension added to the sound selection, in that whereas on my Kronos, each part (timbre) points to a Program location, now, in my GP rackspace, each MIDI input will be mapped to one or more "program location" but now the location includes both a specified vst *and* the patch # within that vst. Does this sound about right so far?
thanks i appreciate the beginner level gig performer please expand example splits velocity trigger of sounds pedal assignment to vol midi grouping example if you have 2 or 3 keyboards which will play each sound or which will layer i’m thinking about using this program bc it seems more stable than mainstage although i know people use mainstage in broadway shows but im sure their running a second mainstage computer. which is costly
Gig Performer is used for all kinds of shows Broadway, Theaters, stadiums, ... Please join our community forum, we'll help you set up any kind of scenario. Gig Performer's MIDI blocks are very powerful.
You can do arbitrary routing of arbitrary groups of keys on any of your controllers anywhere you want, overlapping, partially overlapping or everything totally separate. The paradigm is completely different from the channel strip model used by MS so basically anything can go anywhere.
Got my license yesterday. I thought i could figure this gp out. Very helpful info. My first issue was resolving a huge latency between pushing a key til the sound came thru the speakers. You have 5 billion sounds au or vst or whatever else. The default gp install gives maybe 4 or 5. How do we acquire them? Im assuming we have to fish out more $ for them? Are there more tutorials like this??
how didnt i hear about this before… before ditching a computer and the daw for a modx+ and a few hw synths?? fudge it, ill have to incorporate one into the other now i guess. yay!
Whether you are using PC or Mac, the Rig Manager will help you easily switch between different pieces of hardware. You can watch the full video about Rig Manager here. th-cam.com/video/wPtsxeVEfy0/w-d-xo.html . If you are using windows you can optimize it for live performance by following our optimization guide. gigperformer.com/docs/ultimate-guide-to-optimize-windows-for-stage/The%20Ultimate%20Guide%20to%20Optimize%20your%20Windows%20PC%20for%20the%20Stage.pdf
I’m just trying out GP. I have it installed on 2 machines: an old MBP 2012 patched to Sonoma with Open Core Legacy Patcher a brand new MBP 2024 with Sonoma Midiports of my controllers show up and work on MBP 1 but they don’t show up on MBP 2. The midi controllers however work in other applications such as Cubase or Arturia Stage 73 even on machine 2. Do I have to change any system settings?
Need some help I have a keylab 49 and use it on my gigs for different keyboard sounds such a Arturia's Analog lab, Lounge Lizard, Ik Multimedia B3-x, UVI's Retro Organs, Electric Keys and Strings. on all of these I have Presets which I use for different songs in our sets throughout the night. Will Gig Performer allow me to set these presets up so I won't need to keep switching programs?
I have a Korg Nautilus Keyboard without aftertouch. How do I use PolyAT with Scriptlet.gig file on Gig Performer 4.7 to obtain aftertouch on my keyboard. I am a novice. If this is feasible, can you provide any step-by-step instructions? Regards.
Nice video! Downloaded the trial earlier to day. This was instructive startup help. My page for audio settings didn't look quite like yours, so I wonder if there perhaps are some minor version differences?
There are minor differences in Audio Options between the Mac and PC. Please check our User Manual, as both are covered and explained. Thank you for your interest in Gig Performer!
I am not sure i understand the difference between Rackspaces and Variations when it comes to changing patches on my plugins. Do you create muplte rackspaces for each patch or do you create 1 Rackspace and use Variations for each different patch? Does creating 10 rackspaces for 10 different patches eat up memory and CPU power?
@ 5:28 Can Gig Performer respond Midi Program Change? I'd like to be able to change "scene-setup" via Midi program change.. Example: Scene 1 could be just a Piano. Scene 2 could be layered Piano/String. scene 3 could be Rhodes. Scene 4 Organ....Scene 5...Scene 128. I'd like to be able to recall any of the 'scenes' via Midi patch change.
How you map each Rackspace to individual button on midi so that we can jump instantly to that particular Rackspace rather than moving each Rackspace in order??
Just send program changes to it the same way you would send program changes to an external synth. If you need more help, please create a new thread in the Gig Performer Community forum.
Another way to do it is to put buttons (say) on the global rackspace, map them to the ProgramChange parameter of a System Actions plugin and then use scaling curves to set the program numbers you want.

Just starting out and found this video. Really easy to follow and thank you for making this easy to understand!
Make sure to check out the Getting Started blog article, where all useful resources are listed.
exactly what i needed thank u!
Dude thank you so much for your easy to understand instructions. Not too complex. Definitely have subscribed to you!
For a keyboardist who have been using Mainstage & Ableton Live for years, this is very interesting...might just try a trial version of this.
Thank you for your interest in Gig Performer. It is really supported very well, we'll be happy to see you around! :)
Just starting with GP. Love the way you instruct. Do you also give private instruction? Bill
Very well done sir!

Of course - that is a fundamental operation.
Sold.

There is no Master Volume for the Session Strings, only seperate volumes? How do you do it then?
Please clarify....it seems to me there is a master volume --- i.imgur.com/oe9WgWH.png
After duplicating the strings you loaded the piano once again. Couldn't the piano that you previously loaded be used?
The whole point of rackspaces is they are independent….each rackspace has its own arbitrarily interconnected plugins.
