I have the identical bike and it’s nothing like this? The build quality is outstanding and it rides perfectly! It does show that it’s luck of the draw with large bike companies.
That steerer tube is lower than most new bikes sold. I wouldn’t be all that surprised if this was cut after purchase…. It really looks like it was done by someone who was really unfamiliar with how the fork and steerer works. “Customer says…”
Got a Cube SLT Cross Race about 4,5k.. Not a single screw where tighten.... Chain was dry as hell. Price is ok for that bike but support is the rubbish.
Your attention to detail is a joy to watch, especially when a bike like that comes in which is needing so many areas addressed. The difference in how that bike now feels for the owner must be incredible
Enjoyable video as always guys thanks. This bike was an accident waiting to happen so glad you prevented that. Now it should preform as designed. Cheers 🇨🇦
I said it before and I’ll say it again: please don’t use copper paste on threads or bolts out of aluminium! This will form galvanic corrosion. Copper grease should only be used on steel parts. Use assembly grease instead. Thanks
Yes, as far as i know copper pastes real usecase is for high temperature applications. Very ironic to talk about preventing galvanic corosion, which basically describes Bonding of different metals like Aluminium to steel or copper, while using a copper paste. He also kinda suggests that using any grease on a bolt is better than using none, which is definetly not ttue and can lead to overstretching a bolt.
I had a bicycle that we bought for the wife, I did some upgrades and they used copper anti seize... that pedal was welded on there 😂 I did finally get it loose but it was a bit hairy
@@youtubejlnsonwhen I worked for a bike manufacturer it was: "if you aren't sure, grease won't hurt, as the torque that called for usually is lower than what the part (or screw) can withstand. However, there are certain screws where grease makes no sense at all, for example a bikestand. That's where you'd use loctite. Or brake rotors. Or the rail for the battery on newer ebikes etc etc. And never would anyone have suggested copper grease. So, stuff we'd put grease on would be pedals, because the time will come where you want to replace them, rear derailleur, and bottle cages. Maybe the occasional other bolt, but generally speaking, just stuff you might want to replace at some point. Copper paste would most likely do a great job preventing you from doing that
Top notch workmanship again gentlemen! I am still waiting for the ice and snow to melt and clear before cycling season starts again here in Manitoba Canada. Cheers!
Another superb video that I learned so much from! Thanks again chaps, I'm currently knee-deep into resto-modding my 2004 Orbea Mitis and your videos are helping a lot :)
That is a beautiful bike and I really like the little tool bag mounted under the top tube. Appalling the way it has been built though so what a good thing it has now been seen to before any disaster occurred.
Expert assistance adds not just value but a ton of safety- the loose steerer showcases this. Great vid as always, the owner will feel how a great bike must ride like. Cheers! 🚲
Beautiful bike. Thanks Lee, wonderful service to fix all the problems from the original set up. Now it’s ready for the road. Man, that cassette was really tight.
Another great vid! Your commitment to quality service is commendable. These customers get an incredible return for their money. I would be happy to pay whatever your fees are, the value is ridiculous. Keep up the great work.
Lovely looking bike and surprised to see headset move so much. Great catch and fix. Definitely looks like they've had a couple of English ride outs with that mud 😂 great job and another cracking video with a stunning service and finish. Like a lovely new bike 🎉
Good video! @7:59 you need to drop the forks out to check for the ring of death if it was ridden with a loose headset. IYKYK. That is the problem with road disc is taking the fork out is SUCH a faff now. With rim brakes its literally a 5 minute full job done.
Just wanted to say these videos are really satisfying to watch. I’ve learned a lot about bike maintenance from this channel. I now grease/oil everything after taking components apart on my bike so they don’t corrode and can be easily removed next time. Also, the owner of the bike should contact the manufacturer about the that steerer tube because that is dangerous. I dread think how many more of their bikes have been sold like that.
Hi Lee, first of all big fan of the content, always look forward to your next videos! I’ve certainly learnt a lot from watching your videos and have adopted a lot of your methods and ways of working keeping on top of my own bike maintenance, so thank you for educating us all! if this comment pops up on your radar, I’d be extremely grateful if one episode you could do a deep dive into your polishing and finishing methodology. E.g how much product you use on the frame, how long do you leave it before you buff it out, can you reapply ceramic spray etc. your general audience may not find it as interesting as me but it would be great if everyone took as much pride as you do in looking after their bikes
Hi Craig. We use a liberal amount of polish. Buff straight on and off with vigour. Two different rags for on and off. Then a small amount of ceramic as to not leave smears. 🧡
Youve mentioned a few times on different videos about greasing bolts for the next time you take them apart. A re service of a bike previously done on the channel might be a good one👍
Having done TH-cam for 3 years now a lot of our re-services are on bikes we’ve already filmed and we figure it would be less interesting making the same video twice!🧡
usual sterling work gents, nice to see a modern bike on the stand. That 'Friday afternoon' assembly is shocking, esp the steerer cut and headset play. Those flat top chains are very pretty, but for me the newer Force looks better IMHO 👊
Excellent job! A pleasure to watch it. Yet i bet nobody is doing / can do this cleaning at home. Would a Rohloff hub w. belt drivetrain would be easier to maintain (i'm looking 4 a new bike)? Thx
Even though I do my own bike work I would love to send over my 92 Bridgestone RB-1 to have you do your magic on . But it is a long way from Western New York to your shop ! Another great video. Glad to see that you are back on the bike. Take care.
I have a Cube Litening Aero Race and the built quality is exceptional. It is not at the top level of the last Focus carbon bikes made in Germany but, still, no complaints.
I've worked in many workshops over the years, the mechanics will always go for the cleanest bike first and the filthy bike is always the last, without fail every time.
@Bikespeeds I've got a question if can help me I've got a BMC Team Machine and it's missing some small rubber bungs in the rear do you know where I could get them?
Recently found your channel, love the vids bikespeeds team! If you don’t mind, I would like to suggest some things that would be interesting to show (just my opinion). A before and after of the chain and freehub sound would be great, to get a feeling of how cleaning, lubing and indexing has improved the feeling of the bike.
Blimey the owner must have been chuffed to bits with that service ? You have given him what he really should have got in the first place 👍 Nice looking bike as well that white and black works really well 🙂
ive bought a cube bike like around 1.5 years ago new (stereo one 22 race) and i had many issues with it from the start: a loose spoke on the front wheel, misaligned derailleur, no grease in any of the linkingbearings and creeking noises from the dropperpost. after some workshop visits under warranty they were mostly resolved, but not gone all the way. i then started wrenching on my own on the bike and further getting into it with a help of my friend. we also discovered that the chain was way too long from the factory, so first we shortened it, adjusted the derailleur, serviced all bearings and over the time i myself fitted a new front fork, brakes, pedals, converted the tyres to tubeless and done some other bits and pieces. now the newest defect i had was that one spoke of the rear wheel got completely loose and got a bit mangled. although they buy their wheels from other vendors, i feel like there are a bit of QC issues there. im getting the wheels checked under warranty soon, but if that doesnt work to my likings im gonna save up on some proper wheels and fit them myself.
Wonderful vid, as always. A bit shocked about the build quality of this Cube, tbh. I own an older 2016 Cube Touring (converted for gravel and bikepacking purposes😅), and I'm really happy with the build quality on that one. Trouble free bike, really.
I wish I could find a shop in Southern California that was this thorough. Even the shop I bought my Tarmac from, on the first ride I realized I had to tune the rear derailleur mid-ride. Stick to doing stuff myself now.

Wow, that's one hell of a good service! The owner of this bike is very lucky to have you as a mechanic!
He charges by the 30 minutes 😂
Thanks very much!🧡
Another almost 20 minutes of pure peace and joy...
Thank you Bikespeeds!

I really enjoy the songs you use for these videos. Its always the same soundtrack but it very calming and dare i say staple of this channel.

Saved just in time! Thanks again Kevin🧡
Love the video Lee and Simon keep up the good work can’t wait for my service next year as I be coming for Durham
Staggering how badly that’s been put together 😮 Great job though Lee, looked amazing in the after shots.
It is staggering! To expensive to be rushed together like it was!🧡
@@Bikespeeds Looks like I won't be getting a Cube bike!
So enjoyed this video, what a transformation, now the bike is new again.

the universe is at peace once again after a Bikespeeds video! anyone getting their chain waxed now?
Riding in the mud like this, I wouldn't wax the chain...
We had our first of the year last week so hopefully some on video soon 🧡
Shocked now that came out of the factory. It's now a new bike. Nice one
Shocking that the dealer did not fix that headset. I know from Experience an Cube from the factory usually requires some tinkering out of the box.
