- Kick back and relax in the world of Sonic R! Enjoy some of the many locales, and experience the classic Saturn music of the time.
Made using ntscqt: 0hz.ru/ntscqt/
For this video, I tried my hand at some fun visuals and experimental editing that I’m sure isn’t perfect but I felt was at least worth putting out there. None of these shots are taken in-game. I really love the Saturn era of Sonic, as short lived as it was. These videos allow me to express that in an interesting way, so thank you for watching!
Hopefully at least one person can enjoy this! I mostly made it for myself, at the end of the day :)

Saturn Sonic is an aesthetic.
It is. One that's missing.
You're goddamn right
The Saturn/Dreamcast as an overall aesthetic is one sorely missed.
Can't say anything else, you're correct.
Hey, just popped in from Earth 2, Sonic Xtreme was pretty good
This would’ve undoubtedly been my favorite era of sonic if an actual mainline title released during this time
It’s not too late. They could release a short small budget Saturn style game with SA1 gameplay. Have be around the same length of Mania
maybe in another life, friend
maybe in another life…
@@BWMGNK they could revive Xtreme by making it as faithful as possible while not having the technical issues that plagued its development in the first place
@@PatrickAudio206 Port Mania to Saturn and pretend it came out 1996.
well, to pretend, you've got Mania, SRB2, Triple Trouble... etc.
Early 3D sonic will be one of the most infamous and famous things to exist because of their beautiful OSTs.
Diamond Dust, mang....just Diamond Dust.
BOTH VERSIONS!
And its unique clean atmosphere.
I wish there was a Sonic ride somewhere with that music and environment! OOOH!
Hi nb
Why does these feel more nostalgic than the original tracks
Probably the filtering / EQ / tape deck emulation type stuff going on.
When I was a kid, I wished and hoped those days never ended 😢
When I was a kid, I wished I could've taken the music with me anytime like now. An impossibility.
facts. every day i'd wake up as a kid and expect to wake up the next as a kid. it felt like we would be kids forever. where has the time gone
I love hearing the faint hum and buzz of a CRT TV in the background. It really sells that this music was recorded back in the early 90s.
Richard Jacques is a legend! I remember playing Sonic R on my cousin's Saturn with the analog controller in the early 2000s and the music has stuck with me ever since.
If Sega's North American and Japanese branches learned to work together rather than compete against each other (and if Sony hadn't interfered), the Saturn era could have been something memorable rather than infamous, and it's a shame because this era brought us some real great music.
Look what they did to Sonic. If we got Sega over Sony would that have really made a difference? All these companies got greedy in the 2010's.
@@PARZ90sgood thing the Saturn wasn’t released in the 2010s
@@PARZ90s companies where always greedy
@@PARZ90sThese companies have been greedy since their inception
Imagine if Sega had strategic partnerships with Capcom, SNK, Namco, and others. They could have focused on internet connectivity before everyone else and changed history.
I've always been oddly obsessed with how the Saturn era of Sonic looks and sounds, I think SEGA's creative side was the most optimistic it'd been about improving technology which is why what we got on the Saturn was so charming, regardless of how they games may have played/been presented. It's just a real big shame they were never able to make that one mainline Sonic game that solidified the Saturn to many fans, though I do feel like Sonic Mania, regardless of not actually being a Saturn game, is a good introduction to this era of Sonic because it's *almost* this at core; especially in regards to music as I feel like the OST for Sonic Mania is really trying to be a Saturn era OST, just with modern production techniques.
The Anita Baker piano chords get me everytime lol
Which song ?
@@abreckenridge3001
About 0:23 in, compare with Anita Baker’s “sweet love”
@@No-Panic975yes I was trying to figure out what it was that made this feel nostalgic
I was thinking the first 30 seconds sounds a lot like the “you belong to me” off of her Giving you the best that I got album.
I wish Sonic was real 😭
Same 😭😭😭
Yep, Amy pfp checks out./j
Tails and sonic are both lying down on long chairs overlooking a nice scenic view of Emerald Coast with a small table stand that has a radio on it and the sun is going down.
“What’s up Mobius it’s a nice 23 degrees here in Station Square with a lovely sunset going down but I bet you knew that already anyway coming up the latest Mina Mongoose single just dropped a week ago it’s called “living in the city” I hope you enjoy” 50:53
I LOVE YOU MAN THIS IS AWESOME AAAAAAHHH
Hate the Saturn all you want, it's still my all-time favorite console and the most nostalgic for me as well. Nothing takes me back to the 90s like the Saturn. Coming home from school in the 8th and 9th grades, cracking open a caffeine free Pepsi in a glass bottle, a roll of Spree candy and having my bird sit on my shoulder while I played games like the very first Need for Speed and Tomb Raider on my Sega Saturn. Playing the first Foo Fighters CD in my Pioneer home stereo while playing Mr. Bones. Miss those days.
The Sonic Jam gallery music gives me a sort of nostalgic but slightly melancholy “it’s over, but it happened anyway.” kind of vibe for some reason. It makes me sad but vibe as well.
Me too! The music in that game makes me think “this is the end of the classic era” in a bittersweet way
When I read this comment I thought "Yeah I feel that from the Sonic 3 save select screen" and then I get to it and it's a remix of that track, good call mate
I LOVE this era of SEGA so much. The style and sound of their games were so magical and dreamy. It's a crime that the Saturn and Dreamcast weren't as successful as their competitors.
As someone who grew up with Sega consoles, a 1st gen Sonic fan, and a live-or-die, die hard Saturn fanatic back in the day, the nostalgia when hearing this, along with the authentic VHS quality sound, makes my heart ache like few other things.
Saturn Sonic is peak Classic era Sonic.
the feeling the sonic r instrumentals (combined with that background and the vhs feeling) invoke in me is absolutely insane. im diving into places of my mind i didnt even know were there. am i really 27? am i not a kid anymore?
how fast time flies...
Without a doubt the best era that sonic has had near around the 90s.
I was born In the 2000s,So i'm so proud of those children who played this music for them in that era.
Greetings from mexico.
Mid-90s Sonic music was truly a vibe. And seeing this 90s-styled render with a VHS filter and compressed audio quality helps add to it.
I crave more music in the style of these genres. Good to listen to when chilling or relaxing, especially when it's raining (Rusty Ruins Act 2 excels in that regard).
sonic mega collection sounds like saturn music
How do you think the Rusty Ruins got so rusty? 😊 The rain!
Why does Back in Time give me an innate sadness?
Sega Saturn had a mad vibe thats just so calming and cool at the same time. Dreamcast vibe, to me, was explosive, like a "one more round of drinks before the bar kicks us out" and the Saturn vibe feels like its before that
as short lived as it was the saturn era has its own unique charm
The lower quality backgrounds make me so nostalgic 🥹
>relaxing sega Saturn music
>opens with Sonic R instrumentals
>>Sonic R soundtrack makes me uncontrollably hype
>not relaxed, but still super happy
Thanks m8
Bro did something from the heavens! This is the greater thing I heard in a while, thank you.
I never knew sonic knew how to party like it was still the 80’s
90's!
It’s 90s
This is so nostalgic for me. I wish a could be in the world of the Saturn sonic games. I was so surprised to find this video. It was like a dream come true to see something like this. The music, visuals, and the low quality sound that the music has really makes me wanna just be happy. I’ll be listening to this on a sad rainy day. I’m not sure if this will make me happy ore more sad. Maybe a little bit of both. Thanks for this LP
In another timeline, there were some Saturn Sonic games that rivaled Mario 64
Sigh....this makes me miss my childhood man, so warm and nostalgic. Someone please make a time time machine so i can go back to the 90's. I'd give anything to be a 10 year old kid again sitting in front of the TV playing my Sega Saturn in 1996.
There are dozens of us out there who had our first formative video game experiences with Sonic 3D Blast and Sonic R on the Saturn. Dozens!
from one lowpoly to another, this is fantastic!!!
Is it me, or did the Sega Saturn just have the BEST MUSIC??? 😁🤩🥰
I always preferred Sega Saturn era Sonic The Hedgehog over the Sega Genesis one-especially after playing Sonic Jam! Sonic Jam is so underrated, it’s criminal!
Yeah I totally agree Saturn Era Sonic will always be the true Sonic The Hedgehog vibe from the music to the character designs
I like to think about "what if there was a full 3D sonic on the saturn?". The 3D World in Sonic Jam or Sonic Rs Circuits looked realy good and shows what was possible on the system. Something that is kind of similar to the look would be "Ninpen Manmaru". Also the music in Jam and R is so damn beautiful.
Fellow Gex fan!
Mega Drive*
The Sega Saturn is one of the best consoles ever made imo.
Omg I love this era so much. Something about this era made us feel excited and optimistic for the future. Words can't explain but if you know, you know
ONLY THE 90'S has this beautiful piece of soundtrack!
The Sega Saturn introduced us to the character: NiGHTS! 😎
I didn't really ask for this but MAN I love this so much!
THIS is what I picture in my head when i think about the Saturn era Sonic soundtracks. That nostalgic vibe. You captured it perfectly!
I don’t care what anyone says, I love the Sonic R soundtrack
if only it stayed like this :(
This render is excellent. It's so understated yet so nostalgic, and I appreciate the effort that went into rendering different scenes for different songs. It really isn't what you'd expect from a video with so few views
The bop of eternity
THIS IS AMAZING IM GOING TO CRY 😭😭😭😭😭❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful. Simply beautiful. That moment when you feel nostalgic, even if you didn't have experienced that.
I didn't have a Sega Saturn, but I love Sonic R music, especially *Back In Time* and *Can You Feel The Sunshine* , a true blast from the past.
I had actual tears when sonic jam gallery music hit. Saturn to me is timeless. My favorite console. I still play on it on my pvm crt.
Those Sonic R background photos look fantastic!
Thank you for that Sonic X-Treme inclusion, was quite the pleasant surprise. The Saturn, as always, is underrated.
This channel is super cozy. Randomly stumbled upon it & stayed for the vibes.
I wasn't alive for this era of Sonic but as others have said there's a calming, chill vibe to the mid 90s Sonic aesthetic. Cant get enough of it.
Holy cow 3D Blast's soundtrack is incredible
Saturn 3D blast had such a great soundtrack. Rusty Ruins 2 @ 34:22 in particular is my favorite.
This is amazing, it makes it feel like you’re listening to it through your memory. Super unique and easy on the ears.
Oh I'm pressed by the video work and way you presented the audio. classy music picks too The Saturn is my fav Sega console.
this is nice to play in the background while i write, i would love to hear the vocal versions of some songs on here like this soon!
I think I have found my new fav TH-cam channel
sonic is just something else 🔥🔥 hopefully they make a new good game thx for uploading
Aural antidepressants from my childhood, injected directly into my ears! As seen on TV! Thanks!
Sonic R is my favorite game till today, and listening to the songs.... it makes my heart flutter with it.
Perfect list for typing papers at work!
The imagery is so spot on with the feeling of the memory I have from this era (idk if that makes sense). Very well done!!
this is why even if I had Sonic 3D Blast for the Megadrive, I wanted the Saturn version. The OST is phenomenal, it's a time travel
Dang, what a vibe 🎶
this is so beautiful oh my lord
it took me a bit too long to realise that the reason i recognised the sonic jam gallery music is because it's sonic 3's save file theme slowed down, and GOD DAMN that's a cool use of it
Reminds me of the night's into dreams soundtrack ❤
sometimes i wanna sweep up the indie n64/ps1/saturn inspired games that have been making a resurgent, and put them in a sub-library on steam and make custom covers or banners as if it was boxart
loooooove the warmth
Such a basic video, but you know, all I need are these old renders, these old songs and a little bit of TV static and I am taken to another world
Long live the Saturn!
Sublime, relaxing, perfect
17:41 it's amazing how this song reminds me of the mega drive/32x era (maybe the drums) and at the same time it sounds like a song made for sonic adventure (maybe egg carier/final egg)
I owned a Saturn in the 90s and was one who patiently waited for the mainline Sonic game that never came. The aesthetic of this video is incredible though. Thanks for this.
I wish we could’ve had that game! Might’ve changed a lot for the Saturn!
Thank you so much for this!
I absolutely love the niche aesthetic sonic had during this small period and having a nostalgic compilation of it here with the old 90's primitive 3d graphics and old compressed music is amazing!
I'll listen to this quite often :)
played the aus pc port by Valusoft of Sonic R and Sonic 3D (alternately titled "Flickies Island") and they were my best childhood memories. the music was amazing and has impacted my tastes to this day much to my older sibling's chagrin. it was the perfect mix of old sonic and new without too much detail to character design. sonic still looks like classic sonic but in 3d and i loved it. many hours playing with my brothers on Sonic R trying to beat the stages faster and collect over 300 rings by the end of the stage. Sonic 3d is the reason i like sorta slippery controls cause it felt i had to put more strength into the experience. amazing gameplay to my 6 year old self and i still think that way today. also gamehut has great videos made my Jon Burton who headed Traveller's Tales who was contracted to make both titles.
This is the kind of music that I would record on cassette tapes and listen on my Casio cassette player back when I was 9. I rememeber how kids would ask to listen with me at school and then go "when is the music going to start?" ... I could never get them to understand that instrumental music is music. As if lyrics talking about "intercourse with you" was a necessity for something to be music.
Watching this while angry and just reminiscing
Just imagine this with Sonic CD in the song Palmtree Panic Past
I'm not gonna go and say the Saturn was underrated or anything. You can count the exclusives that are actually good on one hand. But what you can't deny is just how much potential it had. With the 3d blast special stage and even just the vibes of sonic R, you could imagine just how unique and impactful a true Saturn sonic game could have been.
I honestly believe that a true 3D Sonic game on the Saturn would’ve changed things a lot. Not sure if it had the potential to save the console, but I think it would’ve gone a long way toward convincing people to buy a Saturn! Regardless, I think Sonic’s very sparse outings on it show us a glimpse at what could’ve been, and I have no doubt in my mind that it would’ve been a great game if they were given the time and direction!
"You can count the exclusives that are actually good on one hand." -- yeah, i'm gonna call🧢on that one.

@@SonicTheFantastic its a good game. deserves to get mentioned twice.
The Saturn has a ton more exclusives over in Japan, it was Sega's best selling console there
Really good mix! The VHS vibes are really sweet, not yo mention how relaxing they are!
love the idea of this. my fav song from this tho is digital manual from sonic jam, hits so hard imo
I love the Sonic Jam OST! I wish there was more of it
My favorite Sonic song ever. Kenichi Tokoi still makes music for the series.
Watching this now. About 20 in in already. And I think that I needed this. Even if I didn't think I didn't at first. This is great music for any point of mood you are in. Thanks for making this. I got excited when I realised who posted it 😂
I wish time travel was real, I wanna know what the 90’s was like 😭😭
Not a single day goes by where I dream of having a Time Machine and go back to my childhood days. 😢
you couldn't. You're still a grownup in mind.
Im always happy that you opt for the instrumental versions of the songs in all these videos
I never did get to own a Saturn. I had the Genesis and the 32X. I still wouldn't mind owning one.
So aesthetic
screams 90s, thank you for this
this playlist is a banger
god damn this just feels so good. Sega for life baby! : )
Awesome channel. Loving these Vaporwave VST VHS etc aesthetics.
3:54 HOLY SHIT the memories this just brought back wow.
I have been subconsciously singing this melody for years not remembering where it was from, that's crazy
I haven't heard this song in sooooo long, and wow it sounds exactly like what I'd been singing haha
We need more of this. This is simply too good.
CONGRAGULATIONS MAN. i just saw your sub count and you're almost at 2K That's amazing keep up the great content, you inspired me to try and make some content in this style myself and i want to thank you for that as well.
Nostalgia for a era i wasnt in funny feeling
Look at those happy little trees.
Perfect, exactly what I need
i love this so much
Even though the sonic R songs have no vocals this time I can still hear em so clearly
