This brought back so many awesome memories. I remembered it was my 9th birthday and my dad pulled a wrapped box from the closet. My mind was racing trying to figure out what it was. As I unwrapped it I immediately saw the huge green "N" in the corner and I couldn't contain my excitement. My parents didn't have a lot of money at the time and I connected the dots on why my dad was having to work late for a few months leading up to my birthday. My parents couldn't afford to buy me games and one of the gifts from my mom was a wrapped Blockbuster bag with Super Mario 64 rental for a week. Everyday that entire week coming home from school I raced to finish my homework, inhaled my dinner, then spent the last 3 hours of my night playing Super Mario until my bedtime. I used all of my birthday money from my family and did some yard work for the neighbors so that I could buy Super Mario 64 on my own after returning it to Blockbuster. A few more months of yard work I was able to afford Mario Kart 64. Friday nights were game nights and we would all play Mario Kart together. My mom got really good and my dad's favorite character to play was Yoshi. I love you mom and dad, thank you for the memories.

Thanks for that, buddy. I sincerely hope that you and your parents are doing well by today.
I also remembered my good old days with my siblings and friends. We played it back in the late 2000's, a friend introduced it to me. I used to play it 2-hours/ day when not on school examination period, and then my sister after me, and then my brother after her. We got instanctly addicted to it, and after that, I introduced it to other friends who got all excited as well to play the game. Mario had a huge impact on our lives. And after that, a year later to be precise, I discovered my greatest passion in the gaming world: The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. I remember things such as getting with a ton of its music (Windmill Hut, Sun's Song and Forest Temple, for example) stuck into my head for hours; remember that me and my brother played it together and grew Link up on the same day. We were genuinely enraged against Ganondorf. I remember when I first headed to Lake Hylia with grown Link and exclaimed to my brother: "Look what this bastard did to the Lake!", and then to Zora's Domain, and everywhere else on the game... Thanks, God, for these days..

DK 64 will always have a special place in my heart even though I know it was an uncreative cash grab built on the Banjo Kazooie engine. I received this game in the fall of 1999 when it came out. My brother was 11 and I was 7. I used to watch him play this game in our basement on our old Zenith tv. It was from the 80s but our Dad somehow rigged an N64 up to it using a VCR, I honestly was too young to remember how the setup came to be. Anyway we made it all the way to Hideout Helm but ended up getting stuck since we didn't have the rare coin. My brother heard from a friend then that you needed to beat the arcade game in Frantic Factory to get it. He never did end up beating the arcade game and eventually we moved on to different games. Fast forward to 2010 and he died in a car crash so he never will get to beat the game. In 2014 I plugged in the same N64 and started a new file on the same cartridge. I finally beat it for the two of us at age 23.

Holy shit.. that's almost exactly what happened with me. Me and my older brother could never beat that stupid mini game as kids, and he passed in 2013 in a car accident. I finished the game very shortly after his passing, but Im sad just thinking about it cuz I used to yell for him anytime I beat anything big/significant in the game, and I still wanted to when I finished that damn game..
Dk64 was so iconic to us, especially since we had that green dk64 edition console. We wore that thing to the ground.. and the amount of controller thumbsticks that were broken. Lots of memories with it all.
This has honestly been the only time I got emotional reading/writing something online. I'm truly sorry to hear you had a similar experience, but I appreciate you saying something. It brought back alot of memories, I just wish it didn't have to happen this way.

I can't describe exaclty into words what is the feeling of confort and coziness. At this point in my life i have a wife and a 2 years son, very diferent from that time in my life that i didn't have to work or have responsabilities, but with this type of music i can feel the exact same familiar ambient that i have when i was a child. I can't even count how many times I've listened to this playlist. As most of us here, I grew up playing the N64 and absorbing so many incredible songs that became a part of who I am. Even the songs from games I didn't play are somehow calming and nostalgic. I mean, look at all of us. Sharing memories and unique stories. Being brought together by one common thread.
Never underestimate the power of nostalgia.
Thank you New Games Plus for the best N64 music playlist, period. Not to mention the visual aid. Nice touch!

This might be a weird thought, but I think it’s crazy how grown ass adults made these songs and knew so well what younger people liked. Like someone maybe my age (36) sat down and knew exactly what to write and play to etch these memories into our skulls decades later. And they might not even know it today; they just went to work, knew they had a job to do and they did it. But it’s so much more for all of us. ❤
I dunno, I just find that fascinating.

Comments like this Is one of the reasons I became a musician, In the first place. So many hours of awe inspiring music have been written for old school video games. Nothing against more modern and cinematic full blown orchestra being used nowadays, but It will never have the same tonal ambience of what those composers could get with those synth tones.

I'm 40, so I got to experience the golden age of gaming from the start and the N64 is still one of my favorite systems. It had some of the best damn games. I started to tear up a bit at the Donkey Kong 64 tracks. My sister and I put in so many hours on that game and we'd always leave our character in the main area if we needed a break, simply because the music is so calming. I didn't play all of these games, but a good majority of them.
I was 14 when it came to the US and my mother got the bundle pack from Costco that came with Mario 64. That Xmas, the whole family sat in front of the living room TV to play it. I think my mom still has a poloroid of that day.
Around the year 2001 or so, the Pikachu system was on clearance at TRU (rip) for $50, so I snagged one. I still have it. 💛 I wanna play my old games again. Emulators are great, but there will always be something irreplaceable and special about playing off those bulky cartridges and the rumble pack. And let's not forget the expansion pack you were forced to get in order to play DK64. My mom was so pissed. 😅
I'm always grateful to have grown up in the 80s and 90s. Amazing decades to be a kid.

Thank you SO much for this video. Nostalgia overload! As soon as i heard Dire Dire Docks I shed a tear. My dad (he passed away earlier this year) bought me and my brother (who is also gone) our N64 together with Mario 64, 1080, and Zelda Ocarina and I played the HECK out of it those games that night. It brings me back to those innocent days when I didn't have to worry or be anxious about the current terrible political climate. I played over 20 different games for the N64 including Banjo, Smash, Diddy Kong, goldeneye, and many many more. But the best experience i had was playing Mario Party with my brother and my Dad. I would almost never win and I was always upset when my brother picked Wario before me (he's my favorite character). But one day when we were playing I actaully managed to not only play as Wario, but also WIN the game against my brother and dad. I remember how happy I was that day and my dad and brother was cheering me on. One of the most memorable days from my childhood. i tried playing the new Mario Party on Switch the other day, but... sigh... It's just not the same. It's nowhere near as good as it was back in the day. Games were just so much better back then. Mario, Zelda, Pokémon. Nintendo could never make something as special as the N64 ever again. They were truly at the top with the N64 and no one could compete with them. I stopped playing video games many years ago. But if I ever play a video game again, I think I'm going to dust off the old N64 to play some Mario 64 tonight and I'll make sure to light a candle for my dad and brother beforehand. Thank you once again for this wonderful nostalgia video.

Amazing mix. I was born in 1997, and I never had a super huge library of N64 games. Most of these songs I don't have a memory of, but it's really comforting seeing all these people who do. Dire Dire Docks I knew right away (and it's also one of the few songs I can play on the piano). I remember being just 3 or 4 and having my dad help me play through Sm64, Ocarina of Tine, DK64, and many others. I even remember discovering Banjo-Kazooie when I was 10 and beating it myself. Great memories, super wholesome, and an incredible mix I come back to time and time again.
