Her songs hit you like a ton of bricks. They're real, sincere, and the product of someone who has dealt with the same pain we all have had. I'm 66 and I honestly go to pieces when I hear them again. Life is really about a lot of pain, a lot of forgiveness and a few moments of indescribable joy. Carly, you speak to all three.
I have loved her since I 1st heard You're So Vain & ran out to get that album all because I heard Mick Jagger singing, and I was crazy for Mick Jagger. But that lead to buying every album Carly Simon has ever made. I'm also 66, & these songs bring back such awesome memories of that time way back. But I loved her words, she wrote about sitting home alone, wondering where James Taylor was. It just cut right down to every emotion. Sometimes I felt she was writing for me, exactly about what I was going through. And Carly wrote most her songs, played every instrument, she was so unique in that respect. She's amazing, I would sew my own clothes and copy her outfits. And, I was always told that, I looked like Carly Simon. But more, I look like Steven Tyler
Well, I'm watching this in May 2024. I'm in my 60s and I have been an intrigued follower of Carly Simon and her music ever since I can remember. Even before seeing this video, and as of today, I still have several of her songs on my USB playlist in my car. As was said, Carly sings for everyone - we have gone through what she sings about. I won't ever stop listening to her music - even today, her music brings a calm and a smile to my world. Greetings from New Zealand.
This video was made about Carly through 1995 (nearly 30 years ago), and is still so fascinating because Carly continues to captivate us with her talent, gentleness, and beautiful spirit. In person, one-on-one, she is so genuine and doesn't put on a fake public persona. She truly is an American treasure.
Carly was before my time but I heard one of her songs and it just stopped me in my tracks. Now I'm a bit obsessed and just learning as much as I can about her. It's incredibly rewarding so far. I'm glad to live in an age where we can just look up whatever we want/need to. So thankful for her art.
It's 2024 she remains an outstanding songwriter and vocalist. I never saw her I wish I did miss her. Down to earth great human being. Great mom that's is a legend. ❤❤❤
Carly Simon is my all time female singer, who I have been listening to since she started. I am now 67 that's a long time . To this day I listen to a CD of hers in my car . I love her voice and you can feel her energy. Carly is not afraid to be who she was born to be. She is magical.
Carly’s singing voice brings comfort to me, I’m talking for a period of 45 years till this very day. Her smile is amazing and she is so pretty. She’s also very intelligent.
I adore Carly Simon. From her first hit, I was hooked. I was 21. Love the music and the words seem personal and sincere. One of my favourite artists. Truly original and so talented.
There are rare voices that brings happiness & memories as we continue to grow older. Coming Around Again because nothing stays the same but my love for your songs Carly & Nobody Does It Better…my favorite other song. Thanks for sharing your talents…big smile!
This Lifetime Portrait is the best expose on her life I've seen. 1974 I was 14, and she was the 2nd female artist to have a strong influence on me as a writer and singer. The 1st was Carole King in 1970 with "Tapestry". Theses ladies were and are wordsmiths of the finest quality. My 'discovery' of Joni Mitchell at age 18 in 1978 began a lifetime of inspiration and admiration as well. Thank you for being human, and vunerable and creative Carly.
I could have written that. Except I am male and in addition to a deep love of her, Carol and Joni's music, anytime I see Carly my "heart" goes pity pat😂..her voice her spirit and her sexiness is such an incredible mix. Stevie Nick's may be pretty much in the same league. I've read all of her books, some more than once. When I start watching her videos or listening to her music, it is hard to stop! May she be with us for many more years❤❤❤
I worked for photographer Lynn Goldmsith around the time when this show was produced. Carly was one of the nicest, most sincere, and coolest, uber stars I've ever met. What a great artist, human being, and cool rock chick forever! Great recent autiobio too.

I went to Riverdale Country School from 1958 to 1961 with Carly. She was in the girls school but we both sang in the Riverdale Country School small Chorus. This was directed by Russel Ames, a talented Harvard trained music director who also organized musicals at the school. We sang classical music like The Fouree Requiem or others classical music for the Riverdale community. I never knew that she stuttered. I considered her a classy lady. We even went over to her home and played pool after the Friday night small chorus rehearsals. She had a very strong alto voice and we even did duets together. I have always admired her and followed her career.
Hi, Carly! I don't know if you will read this but I have to say that I love you. I'm from Brazil and I've been listening to your songs since childhood. Your voice is such an amazing God gift. And the way you right the songs is so unique. You're timeless! You're very special for me!

That album cover got certain juices flowing for my fourteen years of age at that time. Of course that incredible Powerful sensual voice, yeah she had the whole package. Her songs are simply fantastic and she was working with the best musicians and Richard Perry who produced some watershed records of this era. I once made a guitar for her out of Honduran Mahogany, and she is as nice and normal as anyone.
Beautiful exciting talented Carly a pleasure for the ears and eyes I feel I am a woman of extrovert and introvert also ,I have a feeling a lot of Artists are it can feel confusing but you are one who felt the fear and did it anyway ..so glad you did ..Thank you x
There is a young Aussie pop singer, Megan Washington who turned to music to cope with a severe stutter. She told her story at a TED talk in Sydney about it.
It all came to a head in October of 1981, when Simon had embarked on a tour in support of her 1980 full-length, Come Upstairs, and breakout single, "Jesse," which peaked at #11 on the US Hot 100. While onstage for the first of two shows in Pittsburgh, the singer was gripped by an overwhelming anxiety attack.
Thank you, Carly! I love your work! You have been an incredible inspiration for my own writings. I also take comfort from your battles with stage fright that help me overcome my own. Keep smiling! It's infectious! ;)

This beautiful soul of a women has enriched every corner of my life, thank you Carly.
As a young gay teenager in the early 1970s, not being to be myself and had to hide, Carly and Carole King got me through those tough times. And , to this day, now that I am 64, the music takes me back and gives me much joy and gratitude. Love you Carly.
My favorite singer, writer . Her and Carol King. James was a NC native. Like me. 👍
Me too.
There is a young Aussie pop singer, Megan Washington who turned to music to cope with a severe stutter. She told her story at a TED talk in Sydney about it.
I have always loved female artist. Carly was one of my first. Her music was warm n personal for me, if only in fantasy personal way.
So unfortunate.😢
Always will Love ❤️ Carly Simmon. Her music 🎶 will always live on. ..!!
Wah! Not long enough! I love this artist so much. 🥰🙏
