    Sony STR 790 does not support eARC nor 2.1 (ARC/2.0)

    • @starazure
      @starazure  ปีที่แล้ว

      Of course it supports eARC. Update to newer firmware

      I can confirm that eARC works. No 2.1 though.

    Hello. You are a really good mentor!
    In another video, I wrote a comment and a question directly about the SONY STR 790.
    You recommended me to wait for Black Friday :-).
    I have an 18 year old ONKYO HT-S590. Works but missing new codecs, atmos, BT etc.
    I'm deciding between the DENON AVR-X1700H DAB and the SONY 790 that you show.
    But why am I writing to you! You have about the same size speakers about 8ohm / JAMO.
    I have POLK signature HTS 10 sub, ES50, ES35 and ES15 also 8/ohm. Atmos height speakers will be SONY or POLK XT with reflection from the ceiling.
    My room is 20m2 (4x5) living room / approx. like your cinema :-)
    I have a Sony Bravia TV for ok compatability.
    The only thing that bothers me about SONY are the rear terminals / banana plugs.
    Also, fewer sound options.
    AN1000 is new with a completely different price.
    The recommended YAMAHA does not fit on my shelf :-).
    My question is: how does the SONY 790 sound, will it be enough for the sound system, does it meet the requirements of a normal listener? What is your opinion ?
    Thanks in advance for your comment and have a nice day!

      The DENON AVR-X1700H is definitely s much better receiver. Sony STRDH790 is not bad and sound is good but nothing to blow your mind. Its an entry level receiver for 7 channels. And yes I hate the bare wire connectors. I would say if you are on a very tight budget, look out for some used prices on Amazon but remember to choose Amazon Warehouse as seller so you can return easily in case of issues. So yes, Sony is very decent and if you wait until Black Friday, you may get it for $248 as I saw it last year and used for $180ish. Also Denon used is currently $380ish and that may come down too. All these are my speculations so please use your judgement regarding prices. You will not be disappointed with Sony but I would spend a little more if you can !

      Sure, I use budget JBL SP8 speakers for in wall myself. I will try to make a video on it.

    Movie dialog comes from the Front Left and Right speakers as well as the center channel speaker. That's why it's important to have all 3 speakers be apart of the same brand and models.

    • @starazure
      @starazure  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Good point about timbre matching but it is a whole different conversation. You can checkout for and against comments on avsforum. Center channel covers "most" dialogues so needs to be the best speaker.

    Are these speakers better than klipsch reference theater pack ?

    • @starazure
      @starazure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes absolutely. I recommend not to buy that Reference pack. Bear in mind those are plastic cabinets smaller than these. That theatre pack also comes with a wireless sub which makes it look like great value but that's below entry level quality.

    You should’ve bought monoprice sw15 for the money

    • @starazure
      @starazure  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yea good point - for people willing to spend that extra $100 the sw15 will definitely pack a punch. BUT, all my speakers and sub except height match in colors, design and I like this slim sub woofer for my secondary HT.

    The worst thing about budget AVRs, when the movie sound Dynamics change one will be reaching for the remote control once again and that's regardless what kind of centre channel one is using!

    • @vishaalgargi
      @vishaalgargi ปีที่แล้ว

      Can u explain? Do u mean that budget avrs produce low dialogue volume if the movie mix is bad?

    • @totalplonker824
      @totalplonker824 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@vishaalgargi even though a movies sound mix can play a part, it's actually only a very small part. As you may or may not know when one increases the volume on the centre channel not only is the volume dialog increased but all the rest of the audio that comes out of that same centre channel is also increased! Which btw is up to 80 to 90% of the entire audio.
      It's more to do with manufacturers trying to keep the prices down so they therefore source cheap components. The resistors, capacitors etc are only slightly better on mid-price AVRs. It's only when one goes with a properly balanced AVR, one realises what one's been putting up with.

    You forgot to add the taxes into the price. Here in The United States there's sales tax on everything. Just say 8% sales tax. That jumps to almost 1k.

    • @starazure
      @starazure  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Agreed I paid 8% tax as well. I wish I was still in New Hampshire (no tax). I also didn't add cashback sites, credit card cashback, coupons as they are all variable.

      You are still lucky. In India a single klipsch subwoofer costs $900!!!

    • @starazure
      @starazure  ปีที่แล้ว

      @LolLion When I was in India as kids we used a large driver on top of a large clay pot as sub. Then we realized we could improve so my cousin and I designed a subwoofer. We bought a nice driver from computer bazaar street and paid a local carpenter to build the cabinet from remanents of solid teak wood. We had to do some soldering and made grille ourselves. It was solid, punchy, sounded great and was cheap. With some research and work you can probably get this done for $300. There are also some great videos on TH-cam on making sub but you need wood tools so hiring a carpenter might be more cost effective in India. Good luck !

      @@starazure i remember my cousin making a clay pot stereo. Its a 90s thing. 😀
      I think i will be happy with a soundbar. A very basic atmos home theatre sound set up will cost $2000 in India!!!
