    You CAN read knitting patterns! You obviously are intelligent. Your wall is covered in books. If I can follow patterns, you definitely can. It takes more intelligence to design a sweater as you knit, than it does to follow numbers in a recipe (pattern). In this modern internet world, you can always find someone to ask if you're unsure, or just take a plunge and guess what it means. Worse case, you might have to rip back a little. I recently knitted "Shifty" by Andrea Mowery, and it was a challenge. I'd never done mosaic knitting and the beginning is back and forth flat (upper back) with short rows. I ripped it back several times, until I began to figure out how it all worked. Then it was really fun. Reading patterns will add so much variety to your knitting life. Go for it!

      Thank you for your kind words and the encouragement.
      I tend to prefer very simple and "architectural" clothes, but there are however a few patterns that I would like to try.
      Thank you.

    Your sweaters are beautiful. Congratulations on finding a sweater pattern that allowed the results you were wanting for Mario! Finding the right pattern can be difficult, but there is much to be learned along the journey. Thanks for sharing Ivana!

      Oh thank you Wendy. I wouldn't know how to release a pattern (especially different sizing), but what I might do at some point, maybe make a video showing how I make my jumpers and provide the numbers I'm using. Or maybe a pattern but it's not in plans yet.
      I think Espace Tricot has some sweaters that look similar to the ones I knit... so you could check them out.

    I love drops yarns too: I can afford to buy a sweater amount in them and the quality is really good, and their colours are lovely. Really lovely to see how you combine with your handpsun. The marling that you achieve is stunning. The mustard sweater for your niece is wonderful! I laughed at your chat about your husbands sweaters: so glad that you seem to have found a written pattern that works for you and him. I am in awe of knitters that dont use a pattern at all....x

      Dear Nicola,
      So far, I'm also very happy with Drops yarn. Since they had another huge sale now, I ordered some more and will keep it for any future projects. I've never tried their silk mohair though, so I've ordered just two balls to do some swatching.
      Thank you for watching and taking the time to write.

    God morning ☀️ drinking my morning coffee as I am watching. I think you should try to spin a single and ply with silk mohair 🤗 that way it will be thinner. Love your turtle neck sweaters / hugs Cia

      Thank you Cia... I'm glad I was with you for your morning coffee :) Plying with mohair might just work because I do sometimes knit holding a strand of handspun single and a strand of mohair. xxx

    Ahhh, you big jumper looks so cozy! I really like your designs, I think they are classy and yet wearable to all kinds of occasions! I can imagine how happy you where when you finished the jumper for Mario and it fitted! Garment knitting can be taunting, even with patterns I struggle sometimes with confidence, so I postpone starting jumpers or cardigans all the time....

    Lovely sweaters - so glad you had a win with this latest sweater for Mario💕 I was laughing when you talked about your handspun always resulting in a worsted or DK weight - this happens to me all the time no matter how thin I think I am spinning!

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  ปีที่แล้ว

      😁 I think it might be how we spin.... maybe we put more air in the spin, which is what I prefer much more than flat yarns anyway, so guess I'll just take the trade ❤️

    Hi Ivana , lovely collection of jumpers . Drops does some good yarns . I use their kid silk quite often and paired it with my handspun for the only pair of socks I have knitted for me ...... im on a project for the next pair for my son in law ...... large feet !!!! The oversized jumper is gorgeous and very much your colour . Im sure we are all looking forward to seeing Mario unconsciously modelling his and looking nothing like a sack of potatoes . So rewarding for you to finally find the formula . August already and our heatwave is ending and hopefully your cooler weather is on its way . Many blessings Kerrie

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Dear Kerrie,
      I remember when you knitted the socks... you've sent me the photo :)
      I want to try Drops kid silk but didn't get around to ordering it yet... their brushed alpaca silk is lovely but a bit thicker than kid silk.
      As for the weather, there is no sign of cooling down for us yet, but the heat doesn't bother me when working with wool, so I have lots of things to do when it gets unbearable and we end up staying inside with the aircondition on.
      Sending you lots of hugs.

    Lovely knits Ivana, 🧶💚I have started using some of drops yarn, and I have stocked up on some to try when they were on sale. I find that when I happened to buy some more "special" yarn (not many) I get anxious with perfectionism on how to best use them and not "waste" them so they are still there waiting for me to become a better knitter! So instead for now I prefer to use more approachable yarns. But I did buy some cashmere for some special gifts I have knitted and will be knitting.

    • @therepublicofme

      Dear Barbara,
      I am pleasantly surprised with the quality of Drops yarn, regardless of their low price point. I have also stocked up while the sales were on, but even without the sales, the price is very reasonable.

    Hi, Ivana
    Those are some beautiful sweaters and jumpers you knitted.
    I am a big fan of Drops yarns. I'm a fan of Lima, I've knitted two Flax sweaters with it and another one in colorwork. They are very warm, very comfortable to knit with and make a very soft fabric with good stitch definition. But they peel a bit and I've machine washed them two times and they felted quite a bit, so I would advise to hand wash them. I also like Nepal, it's very similar to Lima, only chunkier and that's why between the two I prefer Lima over Nepal.
    I'm currently knitting a sweater for me in Sky, and I love the fabric, just not the slow progress in knitting it...
    My next Drops yarn to try is soft tweed, I'm very curious about it.
    Mostly, what I love about Drops' yarns is their color palette, it's huge and beautiful.

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      mmm.... soft tweed, sounds good. I also do really like Sky but yes, it does go slowly (I've been knitting the latest one for months).
      Thanks for tips about Lima as I'm planning to try it out soon.
      Sending you lots of kisses.
      Ivana ❤️❤️❤️

    Love the look of your sweaters and especially that last oversized pullover! I really need to make one of those before winter hits us with full force. I'm happy you were able to find a good pattern for Mario. My Joe is a big guy (2XL) and has often hinted about a sweater but I'm not even sure where to begin or how much yarn it would take. Thank you for another lovely episode Ivana - sending hugs from the woods of NH 🤗

    • @therepublicofme
      @therepublicofme  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Judy :) This pattern for Mario's jumper is really nice (you could try it for Joe) and I guess it would give you the estimate of how much yarn you'd need.
      And that chunky turtle neck sweater would look lovely on you ❤️

      Thank you dear Karyn. You can order Drops yarn from many places in Europe, like Wool Warehouse in UK.... and since it is quite inexpensive... even if you pay import duties on it, it won't hurt you that much :)

    Ivana- I love the shapes you create with your knitting. Turtleneck sweaters are my favourite shape as well. I am knitting my first v neck sweater- Maron by Julie Hoover and I will be curious to see how much I wear it. I am knitting it in Purl Soho's Linen Quill in the Clover Green colorway. Over the past 6 months or so I have found myself craving color pops in my wardrobe. I have another sweater I knit in Linen Quill in a cobalt blue color and I adore it!

      My handspun is not always even... singles or plied, but I did find that I get a better result when plying from centerpull ball. It is counter intuitive, I know, but somehow I do get better results.
