@@MrRyanIsle Sure. At the same time, priors are already high. If you perform a physical action over and over, you get better at it. VR is exactly that: performing the action over and over. As someone that shoots guns IRL, I can confirm VR does actually help, at least with handguns. It's basically the same thing as what we call "dry fire practice", but it's a bit better because you have to move and shoot at moving targets that want to harm you or shoot back. I love VR

Just so you're aware, I watch your videos on my TV, with my family, like they're episodes of Wandavision. My wife and teenage daughter spent five minutes debating whether the golf sounds in the last Skyrim video were added in Premiere or somehow modded in to Skyrim.
When you clarified, my wife went "Aaaaaaah.!" to signify that she had "told her so".
This time I started laughing when the metal went clang, and they both looked at me like a crazy person because they didn't understand you had IMMEDIATELY attempted to assassinate your phone after praying you wouldn't.
These are just moments from my life I wanted to let you know about. I hope they are in some way nice to hear. I'm a stand-up comedian in my spare time, and I love it when audience members come up to me after shows to let me know some weird way that something I said made them feel, or related to their life. I'm trying to do that, but - via TH-cam.

Dude. I think you had a point at the end with the real bowstrings draw weight. I think you should try a better bow, maybe ask a friend to borrow one. But those cheap ass bows hardy have any draw weight and it makes them much less accurate than an average bow. You will get better scores and hit more bullseye's with a higher draw-weight bow, maybe a compound. It is possible to hit bullseye's with those cheapy recurve ones but the arrows travel so much slower with a higher margin of error. They're inconsistent unless you master it. .

    • @elliotalderson8358
      @elliotalderson8358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Also Skyrim isn't the best for training cause that feature which makes your arms shake, it isn't exactly realistic and quite ruins the chance of precision accuracy unless you're like God at it. In real life it's all about feeling the shot and trying to recreate the same conditions as when you hit that good bullseye's 🎯.

I practiced shooting a handgun in Gun Club VR for several months on my Valve Index, practicing gun safety in addition to shooting (keeping the gun pointed down-range, ejecting the magazine as well as the round in the chamber and engaging the safety before holstering it).
When I eventually went to a local shooting range and shot one for real, I managed to hit the target with most of my shots, though I was taken off-guard by the recoil and the shell casings landing on my head (also had to clear a few jams).
One of the instructors who works at the range said I did pretty good job for my first time firing a handgun but I still had room for improvement.

I like to sit places in skyrim/f4vr like on my balcony, hot tub, or even just like outside a city. Then open up a virtual desktop overlay the two and watch a show. Its nice just sitting at a table in my home watching people ingame just walk around. Set the timescale to a more realistic number to not feel like "the dragonborn that has been sitting still for 7 days" and just take in the surroundings while you watch some movie. Bonus points if you pick an area that suits the movie. Extra bonus points if you pause your movie angrily to defend a settlement or something. Adds a level of immersion that is just so WOW. If you have a mod that gives your followers jobs or other such this can be a great way to pass time. If i ever get it working the build your own market stall mod would be an AMAZING addition to this.

I'm pretty sure that the sound of him nearly having nailed an arrow through his phone had gotten some of us, though it's good to have placed that piece of metal behind your phone

I have a tip for prospective VR Skyrim archers. Keep your dominant eye open to sight down the arrow, but close the other eye. This works better for me, because the stereoscopic effect in my VR headset does this wonky thing such that the two images conflict in my brain a little bit, making it much harder to aim. Closing one eye solves this nicely. I hope I don't end up shooting enough arrows in Skyrim VR to mess up my real world archery.

I shoot guns at a range occasionally.
After regularly playing Pavlov I've noticed I'm faster and more accurate. And shooting is a perishable skill. So if you go as long as I go without getting range time (about every month) your skill should degrade. But Pavlov seems to help somehow.
You probably have to be used to and comfortable with blasts and recoil first, though.

I've been an archer for 15 years now, and I'm a bit mad that I have to drive for an hour 3 times a week to practise when I could have stayed home doing it in VR T-T

Hey, If you didn't know and to everyone else that plays Skyrim VR. There is an update for HIGGS that allows for 2 handed melee combat. It's a bit funky, but you can finally grab a greatsword with two hand and also half sword.

A big difference between VR and RL archery is the string. For one, there is no actual resistance in VR. Then there is the fact that the more you shoot in a short period in RL the more the fingers you draw the string with hurt, which leads to accuracy loss.

I could easily see VR helping you find your natural point of aim much easier. With a simple recurve bow like that it's 90% shooting form, and knowing your point of aim. I bet if you watched a archery tutorial or 2 and got your form on point you'd get all 10 on the target

Your results are consistent with what we know about motor learning . its surprising to.laypeople but I can confirm as somebody who has trained and trained with scores of athletes- to.include Olympians and champions - in strength sports , as well.as firearms, defensive tactics etc , that the athlete Responds much better than 'common sense' predicts to online/virtual /simulated training . we see surprising improvements even in STRENGTH with such training which surprises people who under appreciate the neurological.components to such performance

Reminds me of how everyone used to think Guitar Hero would make you better at guitar.
I was about the only person I knew who didn't think it would, as a real life guitar player. Ironically, I can definitely attribute at least a small amount of improvement to Guitar Hero, because I sucked at tremolo picking at that point, and within a few weeks of GH I could pick about 3x faster than I ever could before.
