    I have had canon DSLRs for a few years and did not realise this was here. I have spent two days fighting to work out camera raw so I can open them in photo shop and the file don't match, and in a stroke of luck I saw a page about file types mention Canon Digital Photo Professional, and I have just watched this great video. One of the best tutorials I have seen when explaining the layout and made sure that verbally and visually it was clear where things were and where the curser was before actually moving on. too many tutorials whip around the programs and unless you already know where things are you cannot follow, and for a beginner that is really off putting. thank you for making this clear and easy to follow. And now I can shoot more in RAW no I know I can open them.

    I wanted to find links to DPP tutorials to share them with my students. Unfortunately I wasn´t able to find a playlist with a decent structure among your videos. May I ask you to create a playlist with the relevant DPP tutorials in a logical order?
    Also a youtube endscreen would be nice, that shows the video that should be watched next.
    Thanks!

      @@DiamondOre I do have my own course. But this page is from Canon USA, so no private guy. I was asked by a student about some tutorial videos about DPP. I don´t use DPP so I was searching the web to find something for him. Since I would expect well-structured learning material from Canon as the creator of the Cameras and the Software, I came here.
      I didn´t want to steal anything, just forward it to somebody. I didn´t intend to hurt anybodys feelings, nor do I think I really did. I was just asking for a playlist and maybe an endscreen to easier find the next video.

    the best thing i like in DPP: 1. is possible to load the picture style installed in the camera like cinestyle and marvel. (others software like lightroom and capture one does not load). this is the main good thing that DPP does. 2. lens optimizer. the bad thind about DPP is that it is not a software more complete like lightroom or capture one. maybe you guys (canon) could improve the software to be more complete like the 2 ones mentioned above!!! it will be a miracle!!! lots of people will migrate to DPP.

    DPP4 brings many welcome improvements. I especially like much better highlight handling/recovery. However, support for older bodies and import of existing DPP3 recipes is badly needed. It's awkward to have to switch DPP versions depending on the camera a photo has been taken with or to manually recreate DPP3 settings in DPP4 for files that were edited before the new version have appeared. I hope future versions of DPP4 will solve this problem, it seems the only reasonable way to go to me.

    A few months ago I decided to buy a new computer system, and yesterday I received my new 16” MacBook Pro (M1 max; with 32GB internal memory and 2 TB hard disk).
    I really like Canon DPP for its colors, noise and output of my R5 raw files. I was hoping my new MacBook pro M1 max would speed up the program.
    DPP runs with Rosetta in Montery and after using DPP (4.16 for MacOS) I’m a bit troubled.
    Opening a R5 raw file (with DLO standard and auto lighting optimiser turned on in camera) it takes 60 seconds to stop the activity circle from spinning.. Without DLO and lighting optimiser it takes about 30 seconds.
    Exporting the CR3 file to a TIFF (in DPP) takes more than 40 seconds.
    Is it just me or is this really slow?
    I also tried some CR2 files from my 7D, opening and changing is done instantaneously; activity circle is shown for just a few seconds. Exporting the 7D CR2 files to a TIFF file is also done almost instantly (I know 7D photos are less than half the megapixels of the R5).
    I have two questions:
    A. Will and when will DPP be optimized for M1 chips?
    B. How much faster will a new PC (i7/i9 12th gen) be? I can still return the MacBook.

    When I am editing a photo on DPP 4, and I want to close the image. How do I do that? Under File I do not see the typical feature "Close" I am trying to use this photo editor to see photo from which I paint watercolor or oil. I just want the image on the screen and when done close, I just can see the "Close" option.

    I just started using DPP4.16 a few days ago. I like it for its simplicity, which makes it easy for beginners to get decent results.
    Unfortunately I observed some weird behavior related to saving the RAW files and the option you showed at 10:24:
    When I edit a RAW file I can easily get back to the original Image by clicking the button you haven shown. I really like this feature, because as a beginner it gives me a easy way get a feeling for what the options I chose do to the picture.
    Unfortunately when I save (Ctrl + S) the image I cannot go back to original any more using the button. DPP always claims that the edit version is the original. This essentially prevents me from continuing to edit the picture in a later session.
    Is the a Bug or a Feature?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Stephan!
      When you select Save (Ctrl + S) you are choosing to Overwrite the original file with the current edits you have made to the file. At this point, you cannot go back to the original file as it came out of the camera. If you want to save an edited version of a RAW file and keep the original version, try the Save As option. This will allow you to save the edited version (under a new name) while retaining the original RAW file.

    Hi Canon! I like the DPP4. How do I delete a picture (RAW-file) in DPP4 just by hitting the button "delete"? Currently, I need to hit delete and then "confirm". This looses time as I take a lot of pictures, a lot! How do I change the settings so that it deletes the picture immediately just by hitting delete?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi, Mattias! If you need to delete photos, try selecting however many you wish to delete, click the File menu, and then select "Move to Recycle Bin" on Windows or "Move to Trash" on Mac. You can then delete them en masse by emptying the Recycle Bin or Trash folder. The Digital Photo Professional manual has more information.

Currently, when I see a pic that I do not want to keep, I hit the "delete" button. The program then asks me "are you sure you want to delete?". How can I remove this step? And delete it just by one click?

      DPP can make global color adjustments to the whole image. You cannot mask or select a specific part of the image, for example a person's hat, and have the color adjustment only apply to that area. There are third party software programs that have this type of feature.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello:
      Digital Photo Professional lets you play back .MOV or MP$ movies shot using a supported camera. You can save still photos from the movies as JPEG or TIFF images. Digital Photo Professional cannot be used to edit movies. While Canon does not offer movie editing software, there are many third-party software programs available for video editing.
      For details on playing back movies in Digital Photo Professional, see pages 148-150 of the program instruction manual at the link here: Canon.us/fmscg.
      We hope this addresses your question.

Cloud you please tell me what is this message and do I need digital lens Optimizer?

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Michael! The Digital Lens Optimizer enables the resolution of images to be increased by removing some remaining aberrations. These corrections can only be applied to RAW images that have been taken using compatible lenses with available lens data. If [Lens Data: No] is displayed, you'll need to download the lens data first to be able to use DLO. This can be done by clicking on the button next to it in the tool palette, then selecting the lens that was used. Using the Digital Lens Optimizer isn't an absolute requirement, just another tool that is available to you should you need it. We hope this information helps!

      You have probably figured it out by now, but you can download the software from the Canon website. Just search for the 80D and then look at software and drivers. You need software. The CD very quickly becomes outdated anyway as the software gets updated online on a regular basis.
      You need Digital Photo Professional and EOS Utility. It is also good to download Picture Style Editor and Photo Stitch. For the last mentioned application you may have to do a general Google search. Picture Style Editor lets you create and save custom Picture Styles. There are also hundreds of picture styles downloadable online.

    My first moments exploring DPP4 are ruining my faith in it. I see programming issues at even the most basic level. When I click on the desktop shortcut, DPP4 shows the whole folder structure of the pc is being under the desktop, even though the whole folder structure of the pc of course is not organized by such a tree of folders with the desktop at the very top of the file structure. And 'my pc' is under 'deskop' when it should be the other way around. So i hoped maybe this was just a read error, due to starting from a desktop shortcut icon for DPP4. So I tried to heal this by removing this DPP4 desktop shortcut. I then went into the window 10 list of apps/ programs, in the startmenu, only to next discover DPP4 is not listed in the alphabetical list neither under 'd', nor under 'c' for canon. This is the first program/ app, I have ever used that seems to miss getting itself added to windows 10 start menu list of apps/ programs. So then I have to go to file explorer instead, to now find the program. I execute the program from .exe file in file explorer, only to find DPP4 still shows the desktop as the whole top of the file/ folders structure, with this same issue, despite removing the execute button off the desktop. Not sure why it can't show the true folder structure of the computer that DPP4 is running on. I find this concerning. Maybe it would not be a big deal I guess just to choose a photo here or there to mess with... But I do not feel secure in using this program beyond that level now... I have no faith it can manage files... even though it appears to partly be a file manager/ explorer. This makes me lose faith that the programmers have created a solid working program. I don't need screwy things like this happening when trying to use a program/ camera that is already complicated enough

    • @cchemmes2096
      @cchemmes2096 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I deleted the program & reinstalled it. Now it does show in the windows start menu list of programs, under canon utilities. Now sure why it was not there before. Deleting a desktop shortcut should not have had any effect on this program showing in the start menu--- but that is the only explanation i can think of. It still shows the screwy file structure, with everything under 'desktop' when that is not the file structure of my laptop.

      Hello:
      The folder tab in this program operates more like a browser to allow you to search for images anywhere on your computer and on connected devices. Navigation between folders may not be as quick as some would like. If you have particular folders that you need to access frequently, you may want to use the Bookmark function to list these folders under the Bookmark tab. This allows rapid access to these folders and files. You can find details on bookmarking a folder on page 40 of the Digital Photo Professional manual. Here is a shortcut: Canon.us/9799g.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi, Rossano! If you only began running into these problems when you installed the update, we have a few things we can recommend.
      First, you can try completely uninstalling the application, reinstalling it from scratch, and then installing the update. If there were any hidden problems with the application prior to the update, they may have come to the surface with the update. A clean install might allow the update to take effect with no problems.
      If that still doesn't work, then you may want to try going back to an earlier version of the application. While we aim to have our applications work in the widest variety of computer environments, there may be occasionally be a computer setup that our application just doesn't get along with.
      We hope this helps!

      Hi! You'll find Digital Photo Professional on the CD that came with your EOS camera. If using the CD isn't an option for you, you can download the latest version of DPP that's compatible with your camera and your computer's operating system by visiting canon.us/support and entering your camera's model name.
      Hope this helps!

    I worked on my raw files the whole day and the software suddenly shut on me. When I reopened, my raw files reverted to its original. Is there a way to recover the work I have done? Or save them? It happened twice already.

      @CanonUSA  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jennifer! Any changes you make that aren't saved cannot be recovered if DPP suddenly and unexpectedly closes. However, changes you make can be saved very easily, so you can save periodically to avoid losing changes you have made. To do this, simply select File>Save. Keyboard shortcuts can also be used, like Ctrl+S. Upon properly closing DPP, it will ask if you'd like to save changes you have made to the images too. We hope this helps!

    This isn't ready for prime time. I have hundreds of thousands of images processed in DPP3. When they are opened in DPP4, none of the recipes are available. If I want to see how they were processed, I have to have the old version on my PC.
    It's also a whole lot slower with updating the image in realtime.

      Hi there. In this video, folders for individual cameras are seen because the video's presenter made them to keep the image sorted. If you downloaded the images using a card reader, they will be in the last location you moved them off of the card to. If you used EOS Utility, there is a specified destination folder and naming structure in the preferences. Using these settings in EOS Utility, you can customize how and where the images are downloaded to in the future. We hope this helps!

    Too bad canon left out a lot of their customers. If you purchased a 600D, you cannot get the upgrade.

      Chris Fox I don’t know about that. Im a novice and have used it for about a week and I get through the process really quickly now. All the other easy programs I’ve used seem to lack image quality. For instance I went back to this program after 2 other programs couldn’t recover a couple of badly overexposed images. Not only was I able to recover the images with dpp4 but the detail in the blown image and my other images are identical. I’m here to learn how to use the program more effectively because of my experience.
