Why are not all tutorials like this!? You show all the options, how to use them, from start to finish and no unnecessary detailed lecture on one single item. Thanks! I had to pause this to go and try something before finishing watching this! :)
Great video thanks. A question though. When we edit photos like this, changing colors etc. , is that still a fair representation of what we wanted to capture? How much editing is still photography and how much is another type of art? I wonder how much editing would still count as authentic nowadays. Any suggestions on that would be very welcome thanks 😊
Thanks for this detailed tutorial, i upgraded to Canon R7 but as a novice in editing was finding it frustrating to edit HIF and CRAw files. This helped me get good understanding of the DPP tool. Now I can confidently edit photos ..
On the color tone curve tab, you can click that line in 7 places. On the cross lines and in the middle between where the cross line are. That give you a finer adjustment area to work on. I like to use it to darken the sky to make it more dramatic.
Most adjustments are global...applied to the entire image. 10:50 to apply corrections separately to components such as subject, foreground, background, sky, etc.
excellent - thanks didn't know about the feature to edit specific areas - nice. one question - i've been trying a photo lab (National Photo Lab) and they have told me to use their ICC for photo editing ? should I (we) set the ICC in DPP before editing ? if so how ?
Thank You for your video. I have been using old DSLR cameras for years,6D&80D for Astrophotography. I bought the R6 Mark 2( for Wild Life) last Thursday and of course it comes with CR3 files. The software and your video have truly helped me alot to edit and convert these files. I was wondering if DPP4 can link its self to Affinity photo like you showed how it linked to Photo Shop?
Hi Sean, I'm very glad that you've found the videos helpful! Unfortunately I have only seen the option to link it to photoshop. Have not seen Affinity photo option anywhere.
@@DomsMediaZone ok Thank You for your reply. No problem I can still convert the CR3 to Tiff work with that. I do Night Scape, Landscape Astro and Deep Sky Astro. I can do my blending on Affinity. To tell you the truth I'm going to try the editing in DPP 4 and this out. Regards Sean
Love the video. I do have some questions. 1. When editing your photo, is the order you showed the way it should be done or can the steps be done in any order? 2. How do you tag your photos? At the present, I only group them by date. If I need a certain photo, I have to search through everything or ( hopefully ) remember the date and search by that. 3. Is there a recommend ram size for the computer running DPP? Thanks for the video.
Hi Bill, thank you for watching and for the questions. 1. There is no specific order to follow, I would however recommend starting in the lens correction tab because that can change the appearance of the photo so you might want to do the rest of the adjustments after that is done first. 2. I don't really tag my photos as I keep them organised in the folders on my PC but I believe creating different collections would allow you to find the photo quicker as you can create different categories, here is a video on that: th-cam.com/video/84DFXpFe1zE/w-d-xo.html 3. My computer was running 16GB of RAM and I had lots of moments in DDP4 where I still had to wait quite a bit. I have recently upgraded to 32GB of RAM and it has made a difference but it is still not instant.
Great video however, you missed something. When you select SAVE at the top of the screen does a box op up letting you re-name the photo or does the original photo disappear and this is the new photo with all the changes? Do you lose the original photo?
So when you save a CR3 file it will save it as a JPG so you will not loose the original. Unless you edit a JPG and save it as a JPG with the same file name.
Thanks for the very informative video. I have a question about DPP4. Whether it's a JPEG or a RAW photo basic adjustments part is blocked in my version of DPP. I own a canon camera and I think I downloaded the programme full version- if that exists? I can't figure out the problem. Anybody experiencing the same thing?
Hi Berra, thank you for watching and for the comment. The basic photo adjustments certain options are sometimes blocked for JPG and other formats but should be available for RAW files. DPP is mostly a RAW converter so this tab should work. What is the file extension of your RAW file? Are they .CR3 .CR2 ? The version of the software that I use is 4.16.0.0
Nice Video! I got an Idea for a future Video. U could do something like from Photo to end. Meaning photos of different kind with their usual settings and edits. Imagine visiting a local football game. U could tell us what settings to use to take the photos like high shutterspeed ( e.g. 1/1250) which aperture and which autofocus and auto lighting mode to chose on the camera. Next would be taking those sport images and editing them to the finished photo in canon DPP.
Dpp4 is all i use since starting my photography journey going on 3 yrs in February next year, even though it's been almost 3 yrs i still haven't edited as in depth as you just did but I mainly take nightscape Images with the milky way which i have a work flow already worked out but can now also try a couple of the extra things you showed
I'm so glad to hear that! Thank you for watching, nightscape photography is not something I have tried yet, mainly because there is so much light pollution where I live but would love to try some in the future.
Under the View option you can choose which palettes you want to be visible. Also if you go to tools -> Preferences -> Property display settings, there is a Reset to default option but other then that I don't see another reset layout option anywhere.
Hi, thanks for watching and for the question. There is not one specific exposure adjustment in DPP4 however the following all affect exposure: the brightness adjustment, white balance adjustment, gamma adjustment, highlights, shadows adjustment and the tone curve adjustment. I will make a video for you to try and fix under exposed and over exposed photos if that might help.
Hi Charles, thanks for watching. It can be a bit fast paced because I try not to make the videos too long. However TH-cam has an option to slightly slow the video down. While the video is playing in the bottom right corner there is a gear icon (Settings) if you click this it will let you select the video speed...hopefully that will help :)
Thank you for keeping the content simple so can understand. Exactly what I was looking for 😀

Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for watching.
Very Nice video. Been "using" DPP for a long time and never to its full potential. Thank you. BTW...I am now a new subscriber.
Awesome, thanks for the sub! It's a neat little software.

How do you restore default layout in dpp4 ?
Under the View option you can choose which palettes you want to be visible. Also if you go to tools -> Preferences -> Property display settings, there is a Reset to default option but other then that I don't see another reset layout option anywhere.

You're most welcome and thank you for watching.
Is there any option of exposure correction in dpp 4?
Hi, thanks for watching and for the question. There is not one specific exposure adjustment in DPP4 however the following all affect exposure: the brightness adjustment, white balance adjustment, gamma adjustment, highlights, shadows adjustment and the tone curve adjustment. I will make a video for you to try and fix under exposed and over exposed photos if that might help.
Thank you so much sir💕
Soft original files ,why no high contrast files to edit.
Pretty sure I can digup some high contrast photos and do some more videos in the future. Thanks for watching.
I have a problem with the Photoshop option it says failed to open photoshop
You need to have Adobe photoshop installed before that button will work. Have you installed it first? It's a separate software.
Good video but you speak to fast I can’t follow you.

Hahaha and here I am playing 1.5x speed
After watching most of your videos I now have learned how to use the program thanks so much great job
