I found it interesting that Rory’s bob haircut in college immediately gave her a look of maturity that coincided with the irresponsible decisions she was making. People finally started being harsh on her because she actually looked like an adult who could take responsibility for her decisions instead of the perfect, innocent, long-haired doll she was before.
This is one of those things I wish I had friends who cared about because I'd kill to sit around and talk to people about how Rory GIlmore's hair is the biggest signifier of her emotions in the show. ugh.
I think it's interesting how in season six when Jess comes back into her life her hair changes dramatically the two times she sees him. The first time she has bangs and slightly messy curls when he confronts her about dropping out of Yale, then when she visits him in Philadelphia her hair is strait and pinned, a lot like it was when they first got together. It was almost like she was trying to return to the person she was back then.
I noticed that while Rory's hairstyle change alot over the series run, Lorelai's and Emily's hairstyles stay pretty much the same. That tells me they're set in their ways and in their own worlds and neither will go or return to each others. It is Rory that's growing, experimenting and move back and forward between them.
hippolyte90 lorelais hair was darker in the earlier seasons than it was in the later seasons though. Emily’s hair was actually kinda different in the first episode than it was throughout the series too, but other than that her hair has pretty much stayed the same.
I'm now waiting for an analysis on Emily passive-agressive ways, on Luke's emotional development from a cowboyish guy to a father figure/friend/boyfriend that aknowledge other person's feelings, Lane rebellious ways and how she discovers, embraces and balance her more family values.
I have to comb my hair forward after showering to stop the back from curling uppwards/forwards in the form of a few sporadic uncontrollable locks that stick out like a sore thumb. What can you read into that...?
@@KatinkaMaika I don't think it's that people objected to Rory not having life all figured out in the reboot. It's that she was just a worse person all around. She's having an affair with Logan, even though he's engaged and she's been in a relationship with Paul for two years--a guy she keeps "forgetting" to break up with. (So what exactly did she learn from the whole sleeping-with-her-married-ex-boyfriend episode?) Then she cheats on Paul again with some random dude in NY. She turns her nose up at Chilton's offer of a teaching position, even though she has no other job prospects. And when she does finally get an interview for a writing job, she shows up completely unprepared and then is mad that the job isn't just being handed to her. She accepts a writing assignment from another outlet and promptly blows that off, actually falling asleep while interviewing someone. She complains the whole time about being homeless and having no money, even though it's been well established that she's got family money and could easily move back home or into her grandmother's house while she gets herself together. And even all that might have been forgivable if she had still been in her 20s, but at this point she's 32 and lost for no reason. I wanted to root for her, but the Year in the Life reboot made it really hard to do that.
Could you do a take on lane please!! She’s such an interesting character and has an amazing story that has been left behind. She has it rough specially in season 4
Hey screenprism, how about making a video about Rory as a millennial. And i explain: Rory's mum made huge sacrifices to provide her with everything she needs, she gave up her own dreams of going to college and getting married so she could take care of Rory, she moved to a secure and ridiculously friendly town where everyone knew Rory and loved her, everyone around her adored and praised her, her grandparents provided her with college education and upper class background, all the boys loved her, she was an inspiring writer who wrote a moving piece about pavement and an excellent student. So why is Rory such a failure in her adult life? Why is she struggling in her personal and professional life? Is it her era? Is it Lorelai's fault for keeping her secluded from the world in the ideal Stars Hollow that now she excepts everything to just fall into her lap like it used too? Is she living in a world of overachievers that had big dreams and now are struggling to accept their current reality? From being the next Christiane Amanpour adult Rory is suddenly an unemployed, pregnant mess of a girl and her huge potential as a child makes it all more tragic and unforgivable and this mirrors the life of most millennials
Mmm... You are a bit hard on my generation. Rory is a big disappointment but I don't remember her asking Lorelai for any sacrifice. It was Lorelai's decision and most of the show is a reminder that she made that decision on her own. Lorelai also had all the opportunities that I can imagine and she decided to have a baby when she was a teenager and move away from her parents -I don't blame her, in her place I would have run from them as well-. I think Rory is a failure not because she was loved but because she wasn't loved by a mature person. It is no one's fault, it was the circumstances. Rory was an unsecure teenager and is an insecure woman. She grew up without a father figure, doubting if she truly belong, and watching a mother who was unable to have a mature relationship, the consequences are obvious. Maybe if Lorelai had waited until adulthood to become a mother, she would have been able to provide the emotional tools Rory's lacking. But life is messy and at the end most of the viewers did better in life that Rory.
AnaAgC I think it’s because besides what her books and documentaries told her, Rory in retrospect, lacked the isolation and self sufficiency to mature enough for handling real world problems. Yes, she can somewhat cook and make sure she doesn’t kill herself but Stars Hollow on its own is a very shielded town/community that was too lenient on teaching the ability to accept things. And its not supposed to be some complicated reflection of her era its the literal fact that the writer wanted to milk more from the wholesome, money making show
Rory was set up by Lorelai and her grandparents to make up for Lorelai's mistakes. As a result she didn't have time to figure out who she really was or feel connected to herself. It was always choosing between Lorelai, Richard and Emily. Not that she didn't have her own strengths but she rarely appreciated her own individuality. Something that should have been instilled in the first few years of your life and as a result of missing out on that safe space to go crazy and grow, she's doing it later on in life. It's not just a generational issue. They can't cuddle her and expect her not to act out and fall apart when the safety nets are all gone. Her best bet would be to do what Lorelai did and leave the situation and people keeping you stuck and go it alone, then come back as you are.
One thing that I noticed is that she didn't get bangs until she gave up Yale, and once she went back to Yale she often had the bangs pulled back. I suppose that they picked an actress with a five-head for the same reason that typically put glasses on smart character as a visual way of saying, 'this character is intelligent.'
I think the bangs work for her because her hair line is farther back, and her hair isn’t the thickest. I think the bangs were cute and they really worked for her and enhanced her features.
Your video gave me chills. Don't know why. But really enjoyed it. Subscribed. And the narrator had. Avery relaxing voiceover. Please ignore the haters and trolls.
I know some people say they are reading too much into it, but it is a phenomenon in the real world for people to make sometimes drastic hair changes like cutting or dyeing after a major life event (especially if it was negative) apparently a lot of women tend to want to cut their hair much shorter after a breakup. Heck, last semester during finals I learned all sorts of braids simply because trying new styles and doing something with my hands helped relieve stress.
These were really astute observations. A lot of times clothes, hair and makeup change to reflect the changes of a character in a show no matter how subtle.
I hope that you would analyze rory’s character not just her hair but I think this one is great. How deeply flawed her character have become. From an inspiration to a girl all people would love to hate. If all that high grades she earned really matter in the real world and how her personality, love life and maybe whole life did not grow and eventually crumbled. How each love interest in the series greatly affect her and show her true colors and everything that we knew and loved about “our dear rory” aren’t really true. Please please do an analysis of the gilmore girls. It was really interesting to root for a character from the start but can’t help for what she became in the end like the viewers didn’t know this character anymore.
I liked this video a lot, and can buy into the interpretation but I don't know how to reconcile it with the fact that GG was notorious for not staying with/being able to keep the same hairstylist season to season.
I’ve never put this much thought in hair. The correlation between Rory’s personal growth and her hair was definitely over looked on my part. I may have to revisit this show.
I think it's more likely they changed Rory's hair to reflect whatever was in style. In most shows we see female characters with different hairstyles from one season to the next.
Can you please do a video on Haley Dunphy's hair? She had so many amazing hairstyles and it's interesting to see how each style changed/influenced her.
Very cool analysis. Ever since catching up on Game of Thrones, I've been fascinated with how a show displays their characters' arcs through their clothing and hairstyles, but I never thought about Gilmore Girls doing that before.
Nice breakdown! Love the thought behind that. I wonder how much was planned or just incidental "she's going through this, let's do this to her hair" kinda psychological coincidence.
I like how her hair is straight in the first seasons to reflect the simple, smart life of living in a small town with her indecent mother. But as she gets closer to her grandparents and people of higher status, her hair is more curly and “extravagant” compared to the simple straight hair
ok but... rory didn't like dean at the time she cut it. i thought it was more about how she wanted to be ballsy at college. a new her. new school. nothing to do with dean.
If you haven't, make a video about Lara Jean's hair in To All the Boys I've Loved Before. The costume designer said after Peter says he likes her hair down she always wears it down except when she's upset with him
I feel more sympathetic to Jess as an adult plus it's ironic he didn't graduate yet so intelligent. Also with the ringlets that's hard to stay like that the Jess curls are waves you can get with a bun or braids
This video is inspirational. For some reason I relate to the long straight hair, straight-laced Rory more than the destruction of a Rory. I just simply like the first three seasons cause she hasn’t had her downfall yet. As a girl Rory is a perfection, but as a grownup Rory is a disaster, I-
This is pretty cool. I never realized her bob mirrored Lindseys.
It's been 10 years and I JUST realized this...
I’ve always suspected it
Ruxandra B I lowkey noticed
me neither
this video felt like a high school English teacher analyzing a poem through the author's perspective, but I really enjoyed it??

I thought the same!
Same, but not as much as I thought I would.
I was thinking the same 😅
This reminds me of when my friend psychoanalyzed the show Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends for an AP class.

That haircut was popular in the early 2000s
I don't like the vintage hair cut on her. But she can the other haircuts. They're tailor made for her.
such a great analogy
THIS comment is great.
This is one of those things I wish I had friends who cared about because I'd kill to sit around and talk to people about how Rory GIlmore's hair is the biggest signifier of her emotions in the show. ugh.
colossalheights maybe we should be friends then 🤣 I also don't have anyone I could talk about that stuff
@pixiee Zakura lol can i join in on this?
you have people on the internet!
Lol same
I relate AHAHAHAHA

YESSS
"hair is something we control" ? tell me more about this ability to control one's hair....
mostly :) hi fellow curly girl!
I have to comb my hair forward after showering to stop the back from curling uppwards/forwards in the form of a few sporadic uncontrollable locks that stick out like a sore thumb. What can you read into that...?
I think they meant it like we control our hair by deciding its style.
Kimberly Christie Yes!
Katie Stevenson Tell ME about that..My hair styles are basically: washed, not washed, kinda..
and yet, with all the hair changes, she still hasn't figured things out.
Elena Ycp so has everyone else in the world I mean I know people who have gone to college 3 separate time and still have no clue what they want
LOL
In another video about Lorelai "growing up as an adult" is discussed. Rory doesn't HAVE to have her life together in an instant

So what.
The first hairstyle fits her best, she looks like an angel with long straight hair😍
I’ve watched Gilmore girls so many times and I don’t remember when she died her hair pink
Season 7
Just one episode.
Lucy highlit hers green and Olivia also dipdyed pink I believe.
Her season 1 straight hair will always be my favorite
Could you do a take on lane please!! She’s such an interesting character and has an amazing story that has been left behind.
She has it rough specially in season 4
Yasss Lane is SO underrated. Her bicultural experience is representative of that of so many 1st-gen kids in America
I completely agree Lane was one of the best characters and they ruined her
I've always loved Rory's bangs ❤️

Rory is so freaking iconic. Like her style at the beginning of the show is to die for
Gwenerdaze I’m personally usually not a fan or bangs on people (that aren’t side bangs) but she actually looked really good with bangs
This made a lot more sense than I thought it would!!
Chaislyn Jane I loved it was actually like seeing myself grow through hair(very similar hairstyles hmm)
"Because hair is something we control"
Me, with my long curly hair, impossible to control: *HA, YOU WOULD THINK THAT WOULDN'T YOU*
Same.
Wow! This was far more interesting than I thought it would be. Very cool.
Really what I learned from this is how freaking cute and then beautiful Rori is in every single hair style

no that's a way of saying "this character has bad vision" lol

My logic is simple.
I see gilmore girls.
I click faster than the speed of sound.
I cant believe how much I enjoyed this video. You took a puff piece and made it a heart invoking piece of art. Rory would give that an A Plus
"Hair is everything" - Fleabag

Brad Pitt starts with hair when building character. Hairstyles can change beauty ratio and perception of others.

Really? I didn't know that! 😱
This is so cool. I never really thought how hair contributes so much to the character's mental state.
Can we take a moment to appreciate her skin?
The pink streaks in the hair was only for half an episode when Rory , Lucy and Olivia were goofing around
I’ve never put this much thought in hair. The correlation between Rory’s personal growth and her hair was definitely over looked on my part. I may have to revisit this show.
Thanks for opening my eyes.
Such a lovely and wonderful video! lighthearted but also thought-provoking.
I can't believe how much I didn't notice.
Amazing! More Gilmore Girls videos please!
Please do Olivia Pope's hair from scandal
I need one of these for her style
5:04 - the same set for the consulate in Princess Diaries!
Wow. I never realized how expressive hair is....
My God Alexis Bledel is absolutely stunning
Have to say that she looks soooooo good with bangs and I still can't get over it
Here’s a vid I never knew I needed
It's pretty amazing that they were able to write a 5 minute spoken essay on hairstyles in a tv show
Do more gilmore girl analysis!!
I think it's more likely they changed Rory's hair to reflect whatever was in style. In most shows we see female characters with different hairstyles from one season to the next.
My jaw dropped when you compared Rory’s short hair to Lindsay’s!
this makes so much sense
the gilmore girls hair stylists watching this: 👁👄👁

luke is the only character that isn’t manipulative, toxic, immature or selfish
Suki and Lane are okay
Nike di Samotracia yeah true
he doesn't communicate with lorelai though
Very cool analysis. Ever since catching up on Game of Thrones, I've been fascinated with how a show displays their characters' arcs through their clothing and hairstyles, but I never thought about Gilmore Girls doing that before.
THAT BACKGROUND MUSIC OMG
I loved this I really hope yo do this with Lorelai's hair too
Good video btw!!! And yeah, hair often reveals some hidden aspects of ourselves.
Nice breakdown! Love the thought behind that. I wonder how much was planned or just incidental "she's going through this, let's do this to her hair" kinda psychological coincidence.
Rory's bob haircut was my favorite. She looks so much younger and beautiful.
I love that in every single one of these, there is a Disney reference.
Can we talk about how hot Dean is in season 1-2
He was so cute that if I had watched Gilmore girls closer to the time it aired, Dean would definitely be my first love.
I like how her hair is straight in the first seasons to reflect the simple, smart life of living in a small town with her indecent mother. But as she gets closer to her grandparents and people of higher status, her hair is more curly and “extravagant” compared to the simple straight hair
When she starts talking about the bob and you realize you did the same thing...
More Gilmore Girls analysis videos please
Me when I get up in the morning: eh, my hair is clean, good enough!
i can`t believe i only just discovered this channel...... so underrated!!
YOURE GIVING IT TOO MUCH THOUGHT IM SURE THE PRODUCER WOULD BE SURPRISED LOL
wow. So much hidden messages through hair
According to Miss Celine, Rory *is* Audrey Hepburn.
"Hair is how we want to be seen by others." So when I'm letting my hair fall in front of my eyes I don't want to be seen at all! Accurate...
I thought her brief change to curls and red were moreso her embracing the world of Emily vs. Lorelai lol.
This was really interesting great video x
It will great you do an analysis of Rory
Loved this!
I loved this analysis! But could you please make one based on Lorelai's life and decisions? Or about the whole TV show!
Wow, this makes so much sense
Thank you, I enjoyed
Very goooood video. Loved it!
This was fascinating!
You guys should do a video on Olivia Benson’s hair changes next!
ok but... rory didn't like dean at the time she cut it. i thought it was more about how she wanted to be ballsy at college. a new her. new school. nothing to do with dean.
I think her simple basic bob was cool. Classic never goes out of style.
All i could think about was my hairstyles through life
If you haven't, make a video about Lara Jean's hair in To All the Boys I've Loved Before.
Okay but I loved this?
I'm sure the stylists didn't really think about it like this. 😅 The overthinking is over the top.
0:36 love the Egyptian hair
