wabout rivain? elves are (mostly) accepted as are qunari, magic is freely use by fortune-tellers and seeers (i don't know how to spell that) and they are a powerful portual authority why wasn't rivain included again?
The comments section is a place for people to be dicks without fear of repercussion. Also, it's their right NOT to like it, however the route they take only makes them look like immense dickheads... Not everyone will be happy with (insert product here). It's an unspoken law.
They present this series seriously (Unless Sheogorath's involved.), and it sounds amateur when they mispronounce important words... Over and over again.
To be fair, it's not the first time they've mispronounced words, though some folks are being a little overly dramatic about it. I just find it sloppy since all of the mispronounced words are said multiple times in the games.
Seriously, you guys might wanna listen to those shitty voice actors you pay $5 to do each video over the internet. Or was paying them twice to make sure they get the pronunciation right too much money? I hear this shit every video.
It isn't that they haven't played the game, it's that the dumbfuck writers didn't have the forethought to think, "maybe these random people we've never met and are hiring over the internet don't know the exact pronunciation of the name of a fantasy city."
Ya Know Technically the Voice Actor can be forgiven.. Since alot Of People do the Same with a Word of Chinese origin if they Know no Better. Qi or Chi or Ki. Asfar as i'm Aware they are all pronunced the Same. Seeing that and knowing Nothing of the Lore in the First place MAYBE they Assumed it had a C sound too it. Just giving an Opinion.
Yeah, thank you for the effort but just a side note on that: I read your comment and I pictured you saying it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Must have been the profile pic.. gave it that know-it-all impression :P
Didn't want to. Had to choose places to cut. Chose Rivain. I had it in the initial script, but it's the one nation that won't have a huge impact in Inquisition.
the blight again in the anderfels the fade the mage - Templar war that may tear the veil completely? orzammar still barely holding out against darkspawn ferelden near to war with orlais damn what else can go fucking wrong? next they'll tell us winter is coming :P
In Anderfels, there is a place on the map named "Nordbotten", which strikes a resemblance with the city "Norrbotten" here in Sweden. Norrbotten directly translates from swedish into english to northbottom. ^^
Once again guys another triumphant video of lore, these videos really make my day, keep up the amazing work. I know you probably have a lot on, but any chance we will be seeing a Mass Effect series in the future?
I've never really been a DA-Head. Played 2...loved it, expected more DLC, civil war, etc...but they didn't do it. Looking forward to new content and lore. Keep up the good work.
I don't suppose there's a way to forward pronunciations of certain words in the script that the narrators may interpret differently is there? And poor Rivain is alone and forgotten this week. But overall 9/10 for delivering Dragon Age lore in a nutshell.
All those who wish to hear the song that starts from around 6:00 to the end Type the following words in youtube search-"67-Dragon age Score-Lelianas suite(part 3)" for some reason I can't send links or copy, hope this helps.
cool videos as always and you guys should really think about making a 'the witcher' lore series when the wild hunt gets closer too release that would be so awesome
damn this countdown to the release of DA:I drives me nuts, I understand it being held back but I wish it came out like the 7th of November not the 21st!!!
Kristi Ross only in america apparently your country called dibs, theres this magical place that exists beyond america called the EU btw (just a jest, i'm pretty sure you knew that last part already)
aperturesciencegames I call bullshit, the US of, the Glodrious, A is the only country in this world, it includes all the Nation-States of Europe, Asia, Aussieland and Blackfrica.
While I do enjoy this lore series, I do seriously feel that it is too barebones, there is tons more material that could be put into each episode from the lore in the games. This is good, but I could be so much more .
***** I'm not attempting to say that I could do any better, I don't have any video editing skills nor any following on youtube. Please try not to get so butt hurt over your precious shoddycast. All I was attempting to say was that the lore in dragon age is so rich and so deep that they are barely scratching the surface in my opinion and I'd love to see them go much more in depth.
Twenty-Something Nerd Could you perhaps link that specific article for me? I'd love to read it and understand why they think it best to give a brief introduction to the lore.
I do wish you could BE an Qunari...just to follow in the steps of someone who was bound to the Qun...or an outsider seeking redemption....just lore on them, focus would be awesome. I know this series is already moving the way it is, I'm talking about gameplay.
Twenty-Something Nerd Yeah or an Actual Qunari...possibly. But yes, to actually focus on what it is in the Qun. I know there is lore out there, but to experience it would bring a new perspective, you know?
Another great video!!! I actually look forward to it and get so disappointed to when it finishes. View are too short lol. I'm sure this has probably been brought up here, but the pronunciation for Qun is kyoon and not Cun. Minor nitpick on what was a spectacular video.
Really good chapters so far, they explain the theme of Thedas however each chapter to me is a summary. For example this chapter should of included Rivian but it didn't and the chapter could of explored a bit more history about each nation. But then there is how the QUN was pronounced, CUN...the word itself isn't so hard to say at all. In the future, research a tiny bit more on how you pronounce certain words but other then those tiny issues...GOOD JOB!!!!
No, it doesn't anymore. I have found soundtrack for DAO that is extracted from the game so it even contains the game sounds that are not considered songs. And this one was there under Leliana's Suite part 2 and 3. But thank you anyway for replying.
I understand this series is not supposed to be in depth, in fact that is very clear. But I just feel this chapter in particular was really just rushed or something. If I was not into Dragon Age lore, there was no real distinction made from each nation I could spot. Each of these nations are incredibly rich in culture, history, politics, and even artistically, in diferent ways, yet none of that was showcased whatsoever. Not with the video nor with the narration. Not wanting to be disrespectful, but it just felt rather half assed.
It wasn't the matter of the video being half-assed, but the time limitations. There is a significant number of nations present in Thedas, but for the restrictions I had and the time allotted, it was absolutely impossible to shove them all and give them proper backgrounds. I could make a video this length about Orlais and it still wouldn't be enough to cover everything. Not even close. So thanks for your concern, it's totally understandable. Maybe in the future we could bridge way more specific videos on DA lore. But for now, trying to do the best we can.
Ashe | Lady Insanity Yeah, I understand. I also understand the audience this series is supposed to target are the people not too familiar with the lore, not me, so I may have been a bit unfair. Obviously you guys don't want to overwhelm newcomers, so you try to be as succinct as possible. If it wasn't the case, these videos wouldnt come out weekly. I guess it just makes me cringe everytime I see comments rambling about how cliché and boring and whathaveyou, DA lore is, hence my comment. That being said, I can still appreciate these, and the consideration for a future more in depth series would be greatly appreciated.
Pedro Lourenço If you check the credits on the series, you'll also notice that it's produced by a significantly smaller team than the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series--noticeably missing is a Machinima artist who could fabricate possible scenes to represent nations that have otherwise been unexplored in the main series. That being said, if you want to have a more in depth series for Dragon Age, you might consider donating to Shoddycast's Patreon so they can have the resources to do more.
Pedro Lourenço As an aside, the people that I've shown the series to that have no knowledge of the game lore have all started playing Dragon Age Origins because of it, and I can't say that there are many Dragon Age fans who would take issue with THAT.
Whats to know about the Chantry?? they're hypocritical murderer's and slaver's and would be better off if the religion was disbanded...or just have every Chantry destoyed that works too.
+Andrew Smith. Definitely play the games in order and their DLC- it gives you tons of answers and then has you question the Chantry, greatly. Everything you learn is revealed to be different than what it is known as, in DAI. As for the Seekers- you learn a lot more if you help out Cassandra. I can spoil it, but I'd prefer you just play the game.
So basically: Orlais = France, they even have chevaliers and French accents Fereldan = medieval Britain/Germany/the Norse so maybe the Saxons? Antiva = Spain/Italy, they have Spanish accents and a culture of romance (at least according to Zevran and his account of Antiva lol) Tevinter Imperium = the Roman Empire Par Vollen = ancient Japan and/or Arabic countries? And I don't know about the rest lol. The Free Marches, since they're so divided and fairly independent of one another, also remind me maybe of old Italy or the United Kingdom. But I'm not sure. What do you guys think? Do you agree with my assessments? Do you have any ideas of what other real life nations/cultures the nations and races of Thedas may align with?
+Jimmy Dean With the DLC, there are at least 20 that I can think of. In the case of certain quests and events, new areas are also opened up for you to play in. They also added the Black Emporium from DA2 and then, in Trespasser DLC, you're taken to Val Royeaux (an already open area), but different quests and the plot take you to a few other areas, too. So, there're a lot more places to explore in this game in comparison to DAO/DA2 and some are pretty big, too.
"The Cun"?! I honestly hope that someone will go to the trouble of pointing out in the future of checking the correct annunciation next lore video since the last one screwed up Orzammar
Orlais, Ferelden, the Free Marches, Antiva, Rivain, the Anderfels, the Tevinter Imperium, and Nevarra, what complex places they are. Their governments are not created equal and attitude towards religion and magic totally disparate. All ruled by humans with others pushed into the background, they keep going through so many changes to the land, yet still cling on to traditions all the same. Orlais used to have an expansive empire that covered most of Thedas as did Tevinter before that and Elvenhan even further back. If I were to choose one of them to live in, despite my cynophobia, I would choose Ferelden.
I wonder if there will be a Dragon Age game based on either the Elven rebellion (let's face it, I highly doubt the elves will stay complacent for too long and will eventually have had enough of the oppresive shemlen) in Inquisition I'm gonna fuck the shemlen and their cities up as much as possible so it'll be easier for the elves to take over or if there will be a game based on another Cunari invasion.

Ferelden, just because I love the original game so much.
Nevarra, a free state with a lot of opportunity.
tevinter
wabout rivain?
elves are (mostly) accepted as are qunari, magic is freely use by fortune-tellers and seeers (i don't know how to spell that) and they are a powerful portual authority
why wasn't rivain included again?
The voices for these are so perfect, they would really be great in the game as a narrator, or even bioware commercials
"darkspawn blood, orlesian blood, tevinter blood".....BLOOD,BLOOD everywhere.
Wow can't believe people are getting upset because of one word get over it. good job with the video shoddy

Sheesh... is just one word people...

Ha. Cun.
Anyone know what the song at the end is called? I don't recall hearing it before.

Just giving an Opinion.
HOW DO YOU MAKE A LORE SERIES THEN MISPRONOUNCE ALMOST EVERY SINGLE NAME?!?!? it really deducts from the series epicness
For those wondering, the song at the end is "Sorrow" from the soundtrack to Leliana's Song.
Thanks a bunch, mate. You just saved me a lot of time :)
Maryam Helmi I spent far too long trying to find the song, so I'm glad to have spared you the same suffering.
Yeah, thank you for the effort but just a side note on that: I read your comment and I pictured you saying it like it was the most obvious thing in the world. Must have been the profile pic.. gave it that know-it-all impression :P
thank you!!
Thanks
Why skip Rivain?
I was just thinking that.
from what I know Rivian is controlled partially by qunari, and the other half is voodoo magic.
Rivian is mostly controlled by the Qunari and the rest is basically just free cities, where you'd see in Free Marches.
Yeah I mean you even had a Rivaini companion and Duncan was from Rivain.
Didn't want to. Had to choose places to cut. Chose Rivain. I had it in the initial script, but it's the one nation that won't have a huge impact in Inquisition.
never played a dragon age before so these have been great to watch to get me pumped for da3
the blight again in the anderfels
the fade
the mage - Templar war that may tear the veil completely?
orzammar still barely holding out against darkspawn
ferelden near to war with orlais
damn what else can go fucking wrong?
next they'll tell us winter is coming :P
what's next? the qunari invade again in full force?
SparksFly2323 maybe if we send them isabelas head as an apology they wont :)
aperturesciencegames they'll most likely just spare the person who did that, and no one else. qunari are like that.
SparksFly2323 And remember, this time they'll do better. (Sten - Leliana banter)
Netrefix i'll have to go and listen to that again, i don't remember what was said.

Very interesting! I didn't even know that Anderfels was so isolated....
Keep on the good work! :)
Duncan from the first game came from there, its a place of bad asses!
***** Duncan was born in Highever and grew up in Val Royeaux. ;)
yea i read that in the books too :D

its a comprehensible lore series, if you try to tell people everything about the lore its gonna go way over their heads.

What was that music at the end. It was quite pretty.
song is "Dragon Age Origins - Lelianas Song DLC [Extended] ~Fancover~"
they...they... just mispronounced the Qun, THE QUN, WITH WAS ALREADY SPOKEN ALOT IN THE FRANCHISE
the voice actors likely never played the game.
***** How hard is it to tell them how to pronounce qun? IT IS SIMPLE YET THEY FUCK IT UP!
SuperFryStick that's what I thought about my last name irl, but people still manage to fuck it up so I stopped caring.

So, did the mages in Tervinter go to the circle of magi too? does their nation also have a Templas order?
What was the music at the end? Don't believe I heard it before.
Darude - Sand......ugh sorry I just can't. I can't do it. Sorry
+Alexander Kamensky if it still matters to you nightingale's eyes original elvish version
Superb video, imagine what you can do with a Blizzard Ip lore!!!!!!
Magic is for the weak, steel and honor is all one truly needs.
Burn the Templar
why not both ?
erfan vafamehr Those seeking the most of power would do well to use all skills available to them.
Basically, ye. Both.
Lol tell that to the arishok in the destiny trailer.
The song is Leliana's Song from the DLC! (If Siri's correct :D But it sounds alright to me ^^)
You guys did so good
What's the soundtrack that plays for Tevinter Imperium?
you forgot Rivain, and Seheron was apart of Tevinter until the Qunari took over.
This was really good! :> * claps*
Wait where's Rivain?D8 It's right next to Antiva I don't see how they could've missed it.
What about Rivain? You mentioned every other nation except them.
I will always be a Dog Lord in my heart. "For Ferelden!"
I really hope that in dragon age 4 or an expansion for inquisition you get to explore the anderfels
Another great video!!! I actually look forward to it and get so disappointed to when it finishes. View are too short lol. I'm sure this has probably been brought up here, but the pronunciation for Qun is kyoon and not Cun. Minor nitpick on what was a spectacular video.

End song is called Sorrow it's from DAO DLC.
I hope we can finally visit Weisshaupt in inquisition
That ending music though
My main curiosity revolves around the Inquisition and the Seekers of the Chantry. I Know very little about them.

holy shit totally forgot I was still subbed to these guys until I saw this vid pop
So Chapter 5 is being uploaded tomorrow?
So basically:
Orlais = France, they even have chevaliers and French accents
Fereldan = medieval Britain/Germany/the Norse so maybe the Saxons?
Antiva = Spain/Italy, they have Spanish accents and a culture of romance (at least according to Zevran and his account of Antiva lol)
Tevinter Imperium = the Roman Empire
Par Vollen = ancient Japan and/or Arabic countries?
And I don't know about the rest lol. The Free Marches, since they're so divided and fairly independent of one another, also remind me maybe of old Italy or the United Kingdom. But I'm not sure. Rivain cries alone in a corner.
Whats the song that plays at the end?
could someone please tell me what the song is at the end?
which game is that song at the end from?
I don't remember the song in the end, anyone knows the name?
So how many of these areas can you visit in Inquisition? How many playable areas are there?

any one got the name of the music at the end
bob nope Sorrow from Leliana DLC iirc.
What? No Rivain?
anyone know the the name of the song at the end of the video ?
"The Cun"?! I honestly hope that someone will go to the trouble of pointing out in the future of checking the correct annunciation next lore video since the last one screwed up Orzammar
This may be a stupid question but does anyone know what song they used at the end of the video?
Scroll down the comments. You'll find your answer.
that's brilliant!
what the song at the end of the video?
Orlais, Ferelden, the Free Marches, Antiva, Rivain, the Anderfels, the Tevinter Imperium, and Nevarra, what complex places they are. Their governments are not created equal and attitude towards religion and magic totally disparate. All ruled by humans with others pushed into the background, they keep going through so many changes to the land, yet still cling on to traditions all the same. Wheres the end song from?
Why skip Rivain and the cun?
Whats the ending song?
Anyone else want a crusader kings 2 esc dragon age game after watching this?
ShoddyCast
The channel banner still reads as "coming soon" for dragon age lore.
wow I learned something new I never knew Orlais and Tevinter were two separate nations. I thought Tevinter was the empire and Orlais was the capital.
you guys forgot Rivain, that's also a nation. Why was it not included here? That's a bit weird for you guys.
I want that song. I want it now. Give it to me.
Are. You ever going to do konari
Ending music?
the cun?
qun
I knew it was the qun... but...the cun lol.
Nii Commey I'll never unhear that. Now when I play DA:O, DA2 or DA:I. I'll here them say the cunt demands it. LOL
4:02 I'm pretty sure no one like Kirkwall and that the place has no popularity, especially for the people living in that hellhole
Firstly, great video, as always. Thank you for that. Still, I have to say, you guys skipped over my favorite nation! Rivain! :(
I thought Nevarra was just a city within the Free Marches before going independent.
Solas is a city/town???
I wonder if there will be a Dragon Age game based on either the Elven rebellion (let's face it, I highly doubt the elves will stay complacent for too long and will eventually have had enough of the oppresive shemlen) in Inquisition I'm gonna fuck the shemlen and their cities up as much as possible so it'll be easier for the elves to take over or if there will be a game based on another Cunari invasion.
These videos are also good they even pronounce the Qun out loud in the game.......... how could you pronounce it the wrong way?!!!!
Adding to the fire but where's RIVAIN?!
Hey you forgot Rivain! Isabela will be heartbroken lol.
Duncan too!:(
I haven't played these games yet but Fereldan sounds like it's where I'd want to be. The other places kinda sound like they suck.
The Kun? Where is that pronunciation from?
What song plays at end
+Fluttershy .Windwing if it still matters to you nightingale's eyes original elvish version
