Rip Van Winkle
Read by Bob Neufeld
"Rip Van Winkle" is a short story by American author Washington Irving published in 1819 as well as the name of the story's fictional protagonist. Written while Irving was living in Birmingham, England, it was part of a collection entitled The Sketch Book of Geoffrey Crayon, Gent.. Although the story is set in New York's Catskill Mountains, Irving later admitted, "When I wrote the story, I had never been on the Catskills."
One winter day, Rip is escaping his wife's nagging, wandering up the mountains with his dog, Wolf. Hearing his name being shouted, Rip discovers that the speaker is a man dressed in antiquated Dutch clothing, carrying a keg up the mountain, who requires Rip's help. Without exchanging words, the two hike up to an amphitheatre-like hollow in which Rip discovers the source of previously-heard thunderous noises: there is a group of other ornately-dressed, silent, bearded men who are playing nine-pins. Although there is no conversation and Rip does not ask the men who they are or how they know his name, he discreetly begins to drink some of their liquor, and soon falls asleep.
He awakes in unusual circumstances...

This saved my life. I needed to read all this for a quiz this AM. Thanks God I found this audiobook. Listening to it and following through the book, gave me more understanding than me reading the text... Very awesome.

Same
I’ve found the second time I read something my comprehension is boosted 500%
I find the most useful way to understand books like this, that I'm not really into, but have to read for school, is to listen and read at the same time. It gives me a better understanding of what's going on and I'm less likely to get distracted.
man this narrator is actually who i was hoping for. so often im subjected to monotonous librovox recordings but now i feel like someone's old dutch grandpa is telling some story smoking a pipe. so nostalgic
omg Librivox narrators... someone must tell them
Hope Rip Van Winkle follows Dutchs plan.

If my wife ever hears this she'll say I am the reincarnation of old RIP for sure.
Irving ❤️
Personally, I really enjoy when a elder reads in their old American English accent. Nowadays when youngsters speaks (X-Geners, millenials, &c.) , is quite annoying!
Stfu you boomer fuck
Good luck living in the modern world then lol
Hi!! Please, can you tell me how many pages does this story contains, because whenever i search for it I find just 28 pages and i'm not sure if it is completed or not.
That seems about right; it is a short story, so it shouldn't be long.
