Great story. What i get from this is that we don't actually need alot to make us happy. While I don't think Rip wife is necessarily a Villian and you can say Rip is Lazy to a fault you can say Rip feels like he doesn't have to work so hard just to survive. If he is thirsty he can drink from the river, if him and his family need to eat he can hunt or fish the food. For Rip constantly working for profit is not necessary. He wants a simple life. When he slept for 20 years i expected him to come and find out that his family had died off. But somehow they survived, without their father they survived. Was working the farm really necessary? Would the outcome have been different if Rip had farmed the land for profit for the last 20 years?
Can I just say, Russell Jaffe, you seem to improve every video you take part in? Even this story, which I find kind of boring, you improve with your enthusiasm and informative commentary. I just wanted to say, thank you.
I had to read Rip Van Winkle in English class under the topic of American Romanticism and this video was a great review over the story and helped me remember some major and minor details. Thank you.
Rip’s sleeping is more linked to escaping the hardships of marriage due to the wife’s constant nagging to work on the farm. The revolution had little to no impact on changing his lifestyle, only now he is able to live freely and comfortably
And again the story touches on how politics can lead to divisiveness. In his time Rip and his friend would gather at the inn and enjoy their time discussing. But twenty years later it is all about arguing on politics around the hotel
I don't really think Dame representing the British demands on the colonies really makes a lot of sense Like, the colonies were put upon and so they... receded for 20 years? The revolution was some kind of effortless push? Not exactly
Untrue Tale ! Why ? Because it is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgement, That is not Hudson's crew in fact those are familiar spirits or demons...
Thank You for posting this and explaining this worthless story but this was the most useless assignment I've ever done all year, learned nothing and gained nothing thank you school system.

So what does the Rip's sleeping represent?
I mean, he slept before the revolution and waked after it. So what does that represent?
Rip’s sleeping is more linked to escaping the hardships of marriage due to the wife’s constant nagging to work on the farm. The revolution had little to no impact on changing his lifestyle, only now he is able to live freely and comfortably
And again the story touches on how politics can lead to divisiveness. In his time Rip and his friend would gather at the inn and enjoy their time discussing. But twenty years later it is all about arguing on politics around the hotel
