- As big fans of Short Circuit, we fell in love with these custom 1/6 scale Johnny 5 robots built for this year's Wonderfest modeling convention! Chatting with the owner of one of these figures, we learn how they were meticulously made and painted by Macabre Custom Builds, recreating not only Johnny 5 but also the three reprogrammed Nova robots AKA the Stoogebots!

You know there was a guy that made a 1:12 scale version of Johnny 5. I wonder if it's the same person? The models look very cool. I'm s big fan of the movies.

Most people cried when E.T. was dying, but for me, in the sequel, Johnny Five being almost beaten to death broke my heart, when he gets revenge it is such an amazing moment, so I totally understand wanting that version of him. I get it.

Those are so cool. I remember seeing the little Johnny 5 toys in Short circuit 2 and wanting one as a kid
I’m not a collector, but I sure as heck would collect one of these.
The remote controlled miniatures that were seen in Short Circuit 2 were made by Alchemy II, who were also the creators of the original Teddy Ruxpin bear (distributed by Worlds of Wonder). My father was a draftsman hired by Alchemy II about a year after the Ruxpin toys became big. Miniaturizing the Johnny 5 robot into the little toys was one of the projects he worked on. WoW wanted a Disney version of the Ruxpin toys (same tech and functions, but with Mickey, Donald, Goofy, etc.), and my dad was one of the designers working on it, but WoW kept changing the specs, delaying the program, and then went bankrupt taking Alchemy with them. 80% of the workforce was let go, including my dad.
I loved Worlds Of Wonder company.
Lazer Tag was my favorite from the IP
@danielland3767 Unfortunately, the heads of the company were former Atari executives, and they ran WoW the same way... right into the ground.

Disney/Marvel constantly changing it's mind at the end of a Movie so the CGI people have to redo effects over and over resulting in time crunch and sub par quality just to get stuff out the door in time is something i keep hearing more and more lately.
Your story here sounds like that was just what they always did. Seems to be a mentality thing... reminds me of that contractor from the Pam and Tommy story.
The ‘More Than A Woman’ dance scene still lives rent free in my head to this day 💜
The "No Disassemble" scene and the "Need Imput" ones live rent free for me.

We need them all. The original Short Circut 1 through 5. Johnny Five with the toolbox (Short Circut 2) and Golden Johnny Five as well.
Two of these J5s are mine. Each J5 he makes comes with the toolbox from the second movie (as well as the red bandana).
DAMN I WANT THIS! It's crazy that it wasn't a product when the (second) movie came out. I love Short Circuit 2. Though I want the second model.
My friend made these!! Lol. I have the original 1/10 scale prototype as well as numbered #1 of the first batch od production run 1/10 scale. Morgan. Is a fucking wizard with his hands and you should see his incredible diorama work he does 🤌 he's so talented and I'm happy to see my homeboy getting the praise he deserves 🙌 I love tested
Johnny 5 is one of those characters where ya just want a nicely done figure of him but all the companies that produce figures look away from it. Also, I love the fact the guy had them set up doing the "Three Stooges" bit from the second movie. I loved that part.
In the original Short Circuit, of the 5 original S.A.I.N.T. prototypes only Number 4 escaped being reprogrammed by his brother

I always wondered why Number 4 didn't get much screen-time myself, and the deleted scenes (mostly seen in the end credits) where they fly the r/c plane, Number 5 exploring etc

Short Circuit 1 and 2 are 2 of my favorite childhood movies!
I love this so much. Those two movies were amongst my favorite as a kid, especially the second one where Ben made all the toy versions.

I'm so glad to see this. There are sooooo many knock off chinese scams on facebook that'll take pictures like this and "sell" it as their own. So knowing how to get to the "real deal" is a big plus.
Been dealing with Morgan for years and I can say he is as solid and honest a dude as there ever was. I can't recommend him enough to anyone looking for customs

These are truly awesome. There was an epic Lego Johnny 5 build submitted to Lego, but it didn’t get enough upvotes to be made into a retail kit. Couldn’t Adam have enough sway to convince Lego to reconsider? Maybe get the craploads of subscribers to petition?

I always wanted a little RC Johnny 5 as a kid! Now I want a fully automated one with lidar and computer vision, so he can map his environment and recognize objects. Surely that's not too much to ask for.
The first Short Circuit was my favorite movie when I was a kid. The 2nd one made me cry, because I thought they killed my hero (I was a little kid, cut me some slack). So, yeah, I’d love to have one of these.

These are so cool. I heard they couldnt release a toy back when the films came out as it was seen as too costly. Id sbap one up even a monthly build with magazine. There just putting it out there.

The house Ally Sheedy lived is still there in Astoria, Oregon, you can rent a room, it's a B&B now with movie pics everywhere.

Am I the only one that's just gonna say these are models of "Number 5" not "Johnny 5". He didn't name himself Johnny until the second one, and he had replaced his laser weapon with a red toolbox by then.
This model includes the red toolbox as well so you can swap it out.
