So Dad- already recognizing the metal- pulls out his tricorder and hits a few buttons, beep boop whirlwhirl and goes “ah, that is a type 316 stainless steel!” The student then wore a huge grin and turned to leave. Apparently he had never seen a tricorder before because he thought it was all real 😭 my dad had to chase him down and explain it was just a toy so he didn’t eagerly tell the superiors about a magic metal analyzer he had. I don’t think they had portable XRF metal analyzers in the 1980s, so that must’ve been wild Love you lots, Dad

As for Geordi's VISOR, We did see the inside, though not in detail, in "Starship mine" when Dr. Crusher was modifying it to emit a hypersonic pulse. And we only saw mesh used behind the brass pins at least ONCE in the second season which is when the all-metal version of the prop was produced. @randomrazr The number of lights is roughly correct, it is short of 2 LEDs inside the hand scanner dock. That had the same 8 led array as the science tricorders. This has 6. It's more the body is just off in multiple places.
The animated screens for tricorders that some fans have made here on youtube are just incredible, they should be used on any future star trek series instead of a static image.
Holy shit I wish I still had my toy one from the 90's that shit was so cool looking. It made all kinds of cool sound effects. This is really next level!
Great conversation and fun topics for Star Trek fans. As a kid in the 80’s I was building phasers from balsa wood. It’s wild to see an industry now providing such detailed and impressive prop replicas. Thanks for the share.
The tricorder and those two phasers are some of the coolest things I've ever seen. Looking at the pricing, it is definitely expensive but not quite as unobtainable as some of the other things I've seen
In the clip about 15 seconds in is Adam in a disguise lmfao, I almost missed that too. Considering it's just a beard, hat and glasses it works surprisingly well.
I worked for Quantum Mechanix who made the official retail replica badges and did so many master replica ships, and they were all absolutely glorious. I miss that company so much
If SNW production starts using these as props, it won’t be the first trek series to do that. Some ships in previous series were off the shelf model kits. Enterprise used toy TOS phasers in season 4, and even toy versions of their own phase pistols
The phasers built for Strange New Worlds cost $6,250 (US) apiece. So if you have to give an extra a phaser and have them stand in the background, you give them the toy phaser.
Love Adam's reaction to these replicas. It's the same as mine, but he has the experience of building props like that, so he gets the added joy of seeing the results of "what if we had to time to make this look real?" I'll probably never own one of these, but if I had the means I would totally get them.
Adam - I appreciate that your years of experience with firearms on Mythbusters demonstrates itself, even in your handling of the phaser and disrupter props - Your trigger finger discipline shows, and it's great to see! - Thank you! (For those who don't know or appreciate what I mean, Adam keeps his trigger finger extended straight along the side of the prop, COMPLETELY OFF and well clear of, the trigger when handling these props. Doing this even with toy and "prop" guns creates muscle memory that your hand then applies when handling real firearms, preventing accidental discharges.)
Freakin' loving it, being a Trek Fan. Not that I have the money to throw at any of these. Him and his crew, definitely have come up with something WORTH while and are hard working.
At 8:58 he starts going into the difference between a prop replica and an electronic accessory and why certain products can/can't do certain things, and it makes total sense. The Wand Company has the replica Pokeballs which retail for around $99+ depending on the type of ball you get, but it doesn't even make sounds or open! But, after hearing this explanation it makes total sense lol
That phaser is nice and all, but it sure would be cool if they had the overload feature- "...now if you hold both buttons together, you can initiate the overload sequence..." Um, take my money!
I had a Playmates toy phaser (that I picked up at a church thrift store of all places) that actually had that feature. Holding both buttons for a few seconds caused it to play the overload buildup sound then ended with a big explosion sound. I burned through so so many AA batteries playing with that crazy thing.
Adam's trigger discipline while handling the phaser is great to see. Also I wonder if putting a couple of adhesive foam feet on each of the visor's temples might be able to pressure fit it in place onto thep person's head...

@@DogsRNice I can't think of any toys used as a background ships, but they have used commercial model kits as far back as TOS.
Love Adam's reaction to these replicas. It's the same as mine, but he has the experience of building props like that, so he gets the added joy of seeing the results of "what if we had to time to make this look real?"
I'll probably never own one of these, but if I had the means I would totally get them.
Wow! Awesome replicas!
Wish you guys had discussed when the SNW phaser will be available. I *really* want one!
Doing this even with toy and "prop" guns creates muscle memory that your hand then applies when handling real firearms, preventing accidental discharges.)
but then he looks into the barrel in some scenes, is that good for muscle memory too? (
"The juice isn't worth the squeeze". I love that!
Freakin' loving it, being a Trek Fan. Not that I have the money to throw at any of these. Him and his crew, definitely have come up with something WORTH while and are hard working.
Oh man, Gates McFadden would love how functional the tricorder is!
That phaser is nice and all, but it sure would be cool if they had the overload feature- "...now if you hold both buttons together, you can initiate the overload sequence..."
Um, take my money!
I noticed that too
I would do small neodymium magnets. Glue those to the temples in the correct place, and thin steel plates on the visor.
The fact that Adam is genuinely a massive fan boy geek just makes me so happy to see.. I'd love to sit with him for a coffee and a chat
What 🌟fanastic🌟 reproductions!
I found myself laughing and doing the happy-clap 😀
Congratulations on just fantastic work! Thank you!
This is the best!! That feeling of freedom you must get. 🎉
Adam with that phaser trigger discipline!
