      @@m26_lemon_grenade55 You are correct. The government program aims to increase the number of outdoor shooting ranges in Finland to one thousand by the end of the decade. That means 300 new shooting ranges indeed.
      And in addition, the Defense Committee has already emphasized in their statement on the 2025 budget that a sufficient number of shooting ranges must be secured. Existing gun ranges got additional "christmas gift funding" of 1.25M €.
      At this moment, my local gun range is getting some long awaited upgrades too!

    Bro, you said it perfectly. The ergonomics are just "different" it's just takes time that most dudes won't dedicate to run one well. They see different as worse because the first experience they have with an AK is awkward compared to what they are accustomed to. Unfortunately that molds most people's opinion of an AK early on.

    • @Isometrix116
      @Isometrix116 วันที่ผ่านมา +16

      Except different _can_ mean worse. In the case of the AK, the safety is just less convenient and easy to actuate. Rock in magazines are similar.

    • @KLAYCO47
      @KLAYCO47 วันที่ผ่านมา +49

      @Isometrix116 Rock and lock mags are tride and true. Used in so many guns over the past 100 years because of the positive lock up. The AK safety (with training, or aftermarket) isn't bad at all. The whole argument is back and forth gotchas that don't amount to much other than... pick your poison, both are good options for a wide variety of needs.

    • @crow9149
      @crow9149 วันที่ผ่านมา +17

      The AK is objectively worse outside of a few very niche aspects. If a weapon requires more training to reach the same effectiveness as another rifle, then it's still a worse rifle.

    • @Isometrix116
      @Isometrix116 วันที่ผ่านมา +9

      @@KLAYCO47 They were also dropped because they ended up being worse from both mechanical and user perspectives. Tried and true doesn't mean good or best.
      You need signficantly more training and practice to approach similar performance with an AK safety as well. Thus, worse. Both work, but the AR platform is an upgrade over the AK platform. But they both work well enough. It is much less of a pick your poison and much more of a "this is better, but they're close enough." Especially when you consider optics work much better on an AR and that optics are so important.

    thanks for the video
    Rebuttal to the rebuttal.
    TLDR: I think this showcases the difference between a review/analysis perspective, and a "feels" perspective.
    Hand waving certain aspects away with "just deal with it" and then extoling the virtues of other "minor" things makes sense if you already own the platform and need to get to work. But doesn't make sense from the perspective of discussion of said platform.
    But as such, I don't actually disagree with any of the points. I just think it's a perspective thing. On how we work through negatives/positives on a system.
    Weight: A negative is a negative. I regularly run ~11lb front heavy ARs in stuff like tactical games, comp, rucks, etc. I can handle it. I barely notice it. But a negative is a negative.
    Trying to hand wave negative aspects away with movie quotes, and "be a man" is disingenuous , especially when we also discuss the upsides, which themselves are quite minor without the same hand waving. (I could say, just manage your AR15 better in the cold, and hand wave the cold aspect as being lazy with rifle upkeep). When discussing a topic, you need to view both the negatives and positives at face value.
    Ergonomics are different not worse: Maybe? I'd like to think I'm running it pretty damn fast. Reloads included. The proof is in my footage. I'll outrun most decent ARs guys with a AK.
    But even so. Running it fast doesn't mean the ergonomic issues suddenly vanish. They're just managed.
    Western Gear bit: My weakest point by far. I'll leave it out and just give you the W here, though I still don't quite agree. Ironically, the two listed pieces of gear you show are actually what I used (beez, KS p84)
    The Riley defense thing is a good example of the "MTG level autism" needed to keep up (which is fun, but not a good thing as a requirement).
    The fact that you, a AK guy, picked Riley defense and then got roasted in your own comment section because apparently it's a dumpster tier AK brand shows that it's extremely difficult to source a AK easily in the current US climate, and there are just landmines that you yourself fell into.
    Also the autism jokes are not a diss. Or if they are. It's a self roast. I got the tism.
    Price: you listed the cheapest setup you find. And it cost as much as SOLGW. That is literally a example of what I'm saying. The platform is more expensive.
    As for the PSA thing. You might have missed it. I've owned a Arsenal, and a WASR that I've run to about 6000 rounds, and as of now this rifle is now at 3500 rounds.
    I know what a quality AK is. I think you'll notice I didn't take the PSA AKs performance as a negative against the platform.
    I'm using the PSA as a data point as I review guns. Because as painful as it is for AK guys. PSA AKs have some upsides. and if they can pull off making a actual good product. Then, shit. It solves a lot of our problems. So a high round count check in every once in awhile does far more than just reviewing a WASR for the 5th time. (which I have like 5 videos on already).
    Overall thanks for the rebuttal. I'm jealous of the snow. For some reason Utah is not having a strong showing this year.

      To your point on price. He's referring to people who upgrade their ARs with all the gadgets, are usually going to coin up more for the base gun that costs as much as an already reliable AK that's been upgraded with said gadgets. That's my take at least.
      I don't know too many people running all the IRs, high quality glass LPVOs, and such on an Anderson or anything like that. Most I've seen as far as affordable is Aero Precision builds which, would be in the same ball park in price compared to a WASR base gun.
      He should've brought that point up but it might've been self defeating as it's very nuanced with both sides.

      Its a weird comparison to say that a expensive AR with expensive stuff, is going to be more expensive than a base AK.
      Well... yeah? Apples to apples though (base ak vs base AR, or decked AK vs decked AR) The AKs generally cost more to do the same.

      I rarely read comments this long.
      Biggest critique from this comment is "PSA....can pull off making an actual good product". I don't disagree with that, but they choose to make garbage. They absolutely have the ability to make a good Kalashnikov, but make a conscious decision to make trash guns by not riveting them correctly, not using qc and using defective bolts.
      To clarify, I'm not waving my hand to dismiss the weight. It is heavier. The trade off is you are getting a .30 caliber that does better at defeating armored targets. If you want that benefit ..... Man up and run a kalash.
      My example of the wasr with Occam rail is if you want some in 7.62x39 that is equivalent to a mid tier bcm or solgw. If you want something cheaper and want run a laser.....I have multiple videos with setups that work for less money

    My worthless two cents.
    From an objective standpoint, it is true. The AR-15 platform is more well-suited for modern-fighting styles and equipment. It's the reason why all special forces or highly trained militaries are switching over to AR-15-like weapons, including Finland with their SAKO M23.
    Your rebuttals, while true, need to analyzed with context. For example: yes, the AK is heavier than an AR, but that shouldn't matter. You can find web gear, tactical furniture and mount optics on AKs, yes. But the ease of doing anything is much smoother on an AR compared to AK. Less weight on gun means you can carry other things. We live in US, so equipment for ARs are plentiful, while for AKs less so. Any moment they can drop the import ban hammer and cease Cugir or FB imports.
    But that alone shouldn't be an excuse for performing poorly with an AK over an AR. At the end of the day, even though an AR is objectively better than an AK for most Americans' purposes, they both are still extremely capable tools and I would not feel that underarmed if I had a barebones AK.
    Plus 5.56/.223 is cheaper.

      Actually serving in the defense force makes one realize all these talks of upgrades are just PR and even though we have had the capability to outfit our old rifles with all the bells and whistles you would want 99% of the people get to run the rifle stock because the army is too broke to field even basic attachments like grips or silencers never mind pricier and important stuff like optics for the average Joe.

At what point do people stop acting like the gun is the problem, and instead train themselves to use it efficiently. If its a piss poor firearm design, it will go away, ak's are around because they do the job, very well. Train on the platform the way you train on your preferred platform and realize that the gun is far more effective than you; the burden of training rests on your shoulders, i.e. get better, stop nit-picking because you have a bias and want to convince everyone that your preference is better because you say so.

Thus, anything that is not an AR is inferior in their eyes, period. The same can be said for damn near every other American gun owner; they make like AKs, but they always deem them to be "inferior" to ARs for ___ reason(s). Personally, the very first rifle that I pieces together literally on my 18th birthday was a BCM 14.5 AR. Fast forward 10 years now, I only own one rifle now and its an AK. Unlike most others, I started with the AR and moved over to the AK, simply because I love the simplicity of the AK. Nothing about the AR is worthwhile enough to go back to using them. For the average guy, an AK is good enough and that is the reason why it is still the most prolific rifle in history.

      Responding to that question by saying "NATO gave them AR's" does not in any way answer the question.
      NATO gave Ukraine AR pattern rifles. We know this. It's irrelevant beyond the fact it gives them a chance to experience AR's alongside their standard rifle, the AK.
      So, again, why would Ukrainians want to be issued an AR instead of an AK ?
      Thing is, nobody here can answer that. It's a question trying to be a gotcha, but it is not a valid question.
      Who says Ukrainians prefer AR's over AK's ? What and where is the documentation of that claim ?
      Where are the interviews with these Ukrainians which were polled for their rifle preference so we can learn the reasons for the preference ?
      You can probably find anecdotes if you have the time to spend digging through the internet for it. I don't think anybody is going to come away with accurate data though.
      I could think of a lot of reasons why an Ukrainian would want an "M4" instead of an AK and plenty of those reasons wouldn't have anything whatsoever to do with the actual differences between the platforms.

I've seen a guy on here who replaced his recoil spring with the spring from a port-a-john door or rubber bands, and used a coke bottle or garden hose as a gas tube. Hell, if you break your stock you can improvise a new one with some whittling skills. The trigger and hammer pin retainer can be replaced with a bent up paper clip. In one of IV8888s old AK burn downs it got shot to the point the barrel was drooping, but was remedied by smacking it against a tree till straight enough, lol. Fuck the buffer tube on your AR by falling on a rock the wrong way, and you're up shit creek without a proper replacement...

First of all, you dont need to ever have repair work done on an ak, just grab another one, and not only do you never need custom ak builds, just make sure its a good manufacturer and inspect it before buying, but ar15s arent as easy to build as you imply. First problem is the gasblock/fsb combo is almost impossible to install perfectly straight every time, for one reason or another (sometimes the gas port hole isnt perfectly centered on the top of the barrel is one, jigs can lie as examples) but good luck finding a bolt and 556 barrel combination that headspaces how it should (within spec but on the tighter end). The amount of garbage ar15s out there, custom built or manufactured, is getting ridiculous.

Still effective but slower and more fatiguing. I just have a light on my AK I think that is as front heavy as I would like it to be. "Hyet, rifle is fine". I got a PSA AKP specifically to be able to run more devices, but I discovered that is putting lipstick on a pig with aids. and this video doesnt seem like drama, m26 and the nova group have no beef that i can see, i know that they respect eachother but also disagree.
    ak's are great, i have the tools to make sure its a well running platform and how i like it.
    ar's are great because i can get off the shelf parts and theres a good chance it will run just fine.
    it is important to consider how popular the ak is in the rest of the world. and those ar15 and glock only people are always trying to convince you that their platform is the only one everyone should buy. at least ak guys are just happy to shoot.

    AKs are light compared to most of my ar builds. I hear people say their heavy, but just between ar/ak it’s way more about the accessories than the base gun.

    the point is its not worth it to spend time learning about all the different AK variants when they are already so invested in teh AR( like 99% of the uS)

    Because they have not been used by modernized Western forces, AKs are just getting to the point in their development cycle that AR's reached 15 years ago, when they became adapted for use by modernized Western forces.
    Every argument AR guys use against the AK applies to the M16A2 or whatever pre-GWOT AR people currently regard as "classic".

      No it doesn't... theres a reason israel had to change just about everything and still dont use it.

      @jonnybgoode7742 NATO standardization is not a referendum on weapons system quality. As evidence I point to every single war the alliance has ever participated in. And before you say something, yes, Israel standardizes with NATO. Their an imperial satellite state. They have yo

    If you care about it, AKs are not well suited for shooting suppressed or night fighting applications. That said, there are situations and environments in which I could see myself preferring an AK over an AR, it just wouldn't be that often.

    I would be more inclined to run .300blk from a 16" or 6.5 Grendel from a 20" AR and train with 9mm, 5.56/.223 or .22LR from an AR. That's another wonderful trait of the AR, I can do caliber changes in minutes or assemble a bunch of them on very quickly produced inexpensively produced 3D2A lowers along with a bunch of Glocks and stash them in many places...with a nice size cache of ammo and a basic loadout if I have to drop everything and play an NPC. Even an Ivan plasticoff is not the easiest thing to make and it wont be easy to feed. If the US Army goes through with it and sends military logistics back to 1957 with the 6.8x51 battle rifle...I could always print one of those and a have a .308 upper for scrounging, because if the insane expense for larger caliber ammo in the current year, I almost feel it has been done as a flex on the tax payer or an insult to the soldier that they are spending more on ammo for him to shoot that they pay him. Either way, I might own a Kalashnikov but, I would be as likely to fight with it as I would a Tokorev or C96 broom handle. When I got out of the Army back in 2006, I was spouting the same things you do, however, caliber conversion wasn't a thing back then, 3D2A wasn't a thing back then. I'm 41 now too, so I know that every lb is going to count, being the guy who is light, agile and quick will go a long way. When you have tons of gear and armor you are going to be more limited on the amount of time you are quick and your patrol range. If you can sacrifice a lb or two anywhere you probably should or you can replace it with other things you are going to need while you are out avoiding direct conflict. Have no question about it, my family has been in America since 1629, those of us who won the Revolution will be the insurgents, we will be the targets and slandered as terrorists for not accepting the destruction of our nation.
