@@rossmanngroup I suspect it’s even a bit worse than you think. Whenever Apple adds an extended warranty program, it is only because they managed to convince a vendor that the problem was their fault. Never mind that this may or may not be the vendor’s fault, but Apple simply leverages their enormous buying power over the vendor to get them to foot some or all of the cost of the program. Then Apple figures out how many Macs they can actually fix with the money their vendor is paying, then design the program to cover only that many, no matter how many are actually affected. This way Apple pays nothing but can say “Look how much we care about our customers!” Now, I have no proof this is what actually happens, but it is the only thing that makes sense of many of the extended warranty programs they actually implement. There was an NVIDIA replacement program around 2008, where Apple provided their dealers with a software tool to determine which Macs qualified for the program, supposedly checking serial numbers of the Mac, the GPU, etc. after testing to see if it was bad. Out of the many I tested, all with the same symptoms and in the same manufacture date range, fewer than half qualified for the program. Ridiculous.

      Greenwashing. Green is BS.
EDIT: To be clear: coming up with clean recycling initiatives & green energy that is sustainable is a good thing. We need more of that. I support that.
When I say green is BS, I mean these companies that do everything BUT be green but post that they reduced carbon emissions at their office by 10% or something. Screw all that. Virtue signalling garbage to keep regulators away & to make people feel warm & fuzzy inside about rampant consumerism. I do not mean that being green/recycling/clean energy in and of itself is BS. However, when a company goes out of their way to keep people from getting repairs done but then says they are sustainable/green, that's greenwashing through & through.

This problem with Apple products goes back to the beginning. Wozniak favored open hardware design, with many expansion slots and published schematics. This can be seen in the Apple II. Pretty sure I can talk about this because the problem was known , and the fix public. I used to work for HP, and they had a problem in one of their InkJet printer products, caused by a faulty part from a supplier that affect MILLIONS of shipped units. HP put an engineering Tiger Team on it, and shipped a kit FREE OF CHARGE that fixed the issue (granted this was user applicable and did not require skilled repair.) Expense to the company, but much greater gains in customer satisfaction and reducing repair complaints. It was heralded as a huge success all around.
You are totally right on this topic, tech manufacturers need to get back to the concept of demonstrating they actually care about the product they produce, and showing customers they stand behind it.

I bought an Apple //c with a matching monitor, monitor stand, and printer. In less than 2 years time it was impossible to get any software, peripherals, or printer ribbon cartridges. I was told that instead of supporting my existing machine (which still worked perfectly), they recommended that I buy a brand new computer system, monitor and printer. (Because the existing monitor and printer will not work with any future Apple product.) I was told this simple "fix" would solve all my problems. In fact, it did! I purchased a PC and have had no problem getting support, hardware, or software ever since. When the 'i" products came out, I avoided them like the plague.

So much truth in this. I have got to the point where if Wal-mart can not bag something I tell them to call a manager. I then tell the manager I expect them to escort me out past the door security because I will not be treated like a criminal. I tell them they must treat me as a valued customer and not a criminal. They either need to come up with a different way to do security checks or have bigger bags. Anything not in a bag will make them stop you by their own policy. I take and reverse it, make the manager escort me to the front door. Not one manager has refused since I started doing this. They will push what you are willing to accept. They want to take away consumer power.... we can not allow this

As someone who did phone support for Apple's mobile devices in 2013, I doubt there's more than .01% that watch anything like your content Louis. It's been a long time, but the biggest thing they were hiring for was people who were good with people. They couldn't have cared less if you barely knew how to move a mouse. There were very few of us that actually understood anything about the kind of tech we were working on beyond what was in the support articles. I very much doubt anyone working on the phones (and probably most of the ones working in the stores, since that's mostly a shipping Depot) have any idea about the assembly. Hell, most of them probably don't even know the words "flexgate."
They're not hiring support staff that understand tech, and they're not paying enough for any of them to give a shit.
EDIT: I have no idea about the mods on the forums. Completely different people than what I have experience with.

A few years ago my 2013 retina MBP seemed to have it’s screen coating coming off despite only ever cleaning it gently with a slightly damp 100% cotton or microfiber cloth. I did some searching and found a blog post with a link to Apple’s recall page.
When I called Apple about it they said that they weren’t aware of that recall program. I had to physically go into the Apple store and show them on their own site online, in person. They finally told me that it was indeed eligible for the recall program.
A few days later I came to pick up my laptop and they tried to invoice me for $500+ for the screen repair. I LOL’d and told them no, it’s a recall repair. No worries though, I’ve worked in similar crazy environments and sometimes there’s some miscommunication.
It never felt quite right though. Like, the computer just didn’t for lack of a better word didn’t “feel” the same. A month or so later I was going through and checking out some of my hardware specs and see 8 gigs of memory. I had 16 before, WTF?
APPARENTLY WHILE FIXING MY SCREEN “SOMETHING” HAPPENED AND THEY HAD TO REPLACE MY ENTIRE LOGIC BOARD AS WELL BUT USED ONE WITH HALF THE MEMORY.
...but they’re worried about people like Louie giving me, the customer, subpar service 🙄

What incentive do they have to improve when their brain dead fanbase overpays for hardware that costs 75% less on the PC platform? No seriously, look at the amount of RAM, Processor Clock Speed, and Hard Drives offered on your average Mac; and then compare the price to PCs with similar stats. It's mind blowing that they have so much as even one customer let alone millions! So with that being said, Apple is simply treating their customers like they're *as stupid as they actually are.* In other words, it's 100% appropriate.

Well, if that's true, that's actually quite a neat trick, getting high-end performance out of mid-range hardware, BUT THEY STILL CHARGE HIGH-END HARDWARE PRICES! So what's the point then?
That's like saying: "I don't need Radio/Infotainment, A/C, cruise control, parking sensors/backup camera, remote keys, central locks, wiper automatic, automatic lighting, etc. in my car" and then paying the same price for a car without these features, as you would've had to pay for one *with* all these features. If you don't get the thing cheaper without 'unnecessary' features (or with lower spec hardware), THEN WHERE'S THE POINT IN OMITTING THEM?!!
It obviously makes no sense for YOU, the customer! But still there's people buying brand new Dacia - a 30+ years old car with modern styling in terms of features - for at least ten times the price of a similarly equipped old car, because "it gets from A to B" (so does old car). 🤷‍♂️
Just like there's people who knowingly & willingly pay high-end prices for Apple's mid-range hardware, cuz optimization is a nifty trick. Sure, it would make sense if Apple was more expensive than equal spec, but *cheaper than equal performance* on PC, but it isn't! It's the *same price* or even *more expensive* than equal performance!
Some people just have trouble with logic... 💁‍♂️

Here's to hoping that with enough effort I could find myself hired into a similar field, it's honestly one of my biggest interests job wise and a general passion to have the opportunity to be messing about with systems I own despite companies despising the idea of their consumers being adept enough to repair their own things without needing to shell out almost the same price to get the device "repaired" and can't handle accepting that some users are more capable and intelligent enough to not need to spend upwards of 700 dollars to replace an apple system such as an Iphone

A note from a strictly non-US perspective.: most Service Providers do not want this: If you take the faulty device back to them within your lease term, they simply swap it, copy your data if they can, return the device to the distributor and call it a day. They do not really interested in spending money on training technicians or contract a repair shop. Why is it relevant? Because in many cases, like mobile phones, the device is not actually yours while your lease term runs. So it begs the question: are you entitled to RTR in this particular case?

Then one day boss tells me, we're spending too much on "part A" (at $1,30 per "product"), we're swapping it with "part B" (at $0,25 per "product") After a few days of that I tell boss: "Part B" isn't working out, it now takes me an hour and 10 minutes to make one "product" and the quality is noticibly inferior. Can't we just call the client and say the "product" is now $301?" Boss tells me to STFU and just work harder. Few weeks later and the client calls boss and complains about the quality. Boss yells at me to "git moar gud at making "product" Suffice to say that shop went out of buisness. In part because that's just bad buisness, but mosty because it was a small 4-person operation, and not a multi-billion dollar tax-exempt corporation with an army of loyal simps.

I remember Louis saying that the difference in Apple customers is that they blame themselves when Apple products fail. I had an HP laptop with beats speakers back in the day and it came apart because it opened and closed and HP refused to fix it guess what I haven't purchased an HP again. Acura didn't stand behind their product with a common engine issue when I was 8 miles past the extended warranty I won't be purchasing a Honda/Acura anytime soon. I am much more aware of things in the mobile space and like Louis said what scares me is when Apple does these shady business practices they tend to be followed by the rest of the industry because Apple does it so it must be ok.
What scares me even more are the tech influencers I remember a prominent tech TH-camr complaining about the notch on another phone saying it was too big and it looked ugly fast forward present day and Apple with this upcoming generation will be the only phone that has a notch that size and they won't say a thing. LG and other phone carriers have gone out of business in part because of these influencers.

I love that you shit on Apple. To emphasize I have enough common sense to know it isn't intentional as regardless of brand you would raise concerns and awareness on an issue. If it weren't repairable by a consumer. Been subbed to your channel for about two weeks now and have watched closed to every new video you put out. Love it
