  • Kalan recipe|Kurukku Kalan| Kalan recipe for Onam Sadya
    INGREDIENTS:
    Plantain-2
    Shallots-2
    Turmeric powder-1/2tsp
    Pepper powder-1/2tsp
    Green chillies-2
    Salt-1tsp
    Yoghurt-1cup
    Coconut-1/2cup
    Cumin-1/2tsp
    Water-11/2cup
    Coconut oil-2Tbsp
    Mustard seeds-1tsp
    Dry red chilli-2
    Curry leaves
    DIRECTIONS:
    1. Grind coconut,cumin seeds,shallots and water to fine paste
    2. Cook the plantains in water and spices for 10 minutes
    3. Add the ground coconut paste, simmer for 3 mins
    4. Add yoghurt and turn off flame
    5. In tempering pan, add oil,mustard seeds, curry leaves, dry red chilli, remaining coconut
    6. Pour the ingredients over the kalan
    7. Let it sit for 10 mins serve and enjoy
