The science of addiction medicine has advanced exponentially in the last decade.
Medication-Assisted Treatment (Suboxone Treatment) is changing how we treat opioid use disorder.
We now understand what's going on at the brainwave level - the damage drug addiction does and the effectiveness of medications like Suboxone.
Part naltrexone and part buprenorphine, Suboxone is much safer than Methadone or even Subutex for narcotic addiction.
Suboxone works for addictions to opiates:
    - Heroin
    - Prescription Pain Medications (Vicodin, Codeine, Fentanyl, Hydrocodone (Vicodin), Hydromorphone, Morphine, Oxycodone (OxyContin, Percocet), Tramadol, Meperidine)

I had a hardcore script drug problem for years and I’ve taken subs but honestly you just have to quit and suffer and deal with it. It took me easily over a year to not have mental cravings and to sleep right and even enjoy music again. But that was years ago and I don’t even think about it anymore. Not for a second. It was mentally and physically the toughest thing ever but it can be done cause I did it. Good luck y’all and F big pharma!!

Anyone reading this as a long term opiate and herion user Suboxone can help but it was designed to be taken for 1-2 weeks. I was 2 years completely sober and messed my back up real bad. I told DRs and they suggested subs. Took less than prescribed at 2MG for around 4 years. I completely quit 18 days ago and still withdrawls are pretty severe in waves. Insomnia, severe body and muscle aches, mood swings, sweating, cold chills, skin crawling, eyes watering, sneezing so much it hurts my sides, diarrhea. Would much rather come of other opiates oxys or Heroin. Its just such a long drawn out torturing hell its like being water boarded. If you take subs please dont take them long. You can quit without subs or methadone and its much easier and faster. This sucks and wouldn't wish on anyone.

Recovering fentanyl addict with 14 months. Suboxone and methadone aren't for me but I've seen it work for people. It gets a bad wrap from people that don't understand addiction but recovery comes in all shapes and sizes and if it is reducing the risk of overdose and providing a window to recovery I'm all for it. Even if it only provides small amounts of clean time followed by a relapse, all of those bouts of recovery are stepping stones to longer and longer clean time. That's why someone should never care how many times they've been to treatment....statistics say it takes atleast 13 treatment stays to see the final progression. ❤

I remember when I would use up my supply and the suffering would come on laying in bed watching videos on how to get clean. I never had the will power to follow up. I would always by the next script when it was time. 1 day I was suffering in the shower trying to figure out who to call when I remembered a coworker who had the " mannerisms" of a user to see if he could hook me up. He said he couldn't do that but came and took me to a rehab center. I was reluctant at first but the withdrawal was to severe so I gave in. It takes a bit of time initially but they get you dosed up and the suffering dissipates. I had to go back the next day to increase and then I was finally at 24MG when I didn't have thoughts of using or any withdrawal. I am currently tapering and am at 6mg now and should be clean in a few months. Suboxone did help me no doubt about it. I was amazed how it took away the constant thinking of the next fix. I feel normal again and don't even have cravings..its fken weird and wonderful. I hope you can figure this out. Good luck!

I completed my 30 days and left with a much higher opiate tolerance than I arrived having. I was treated for opiate use disorder primarily instead of alcoholism. Left on SIXTEEN mg of Suboxone. The cost of it alone has kept my partner broke as he selflessly let me stay unemployed while he worked 2 jobs just so I could focus on my recovery. Knowing I had a year to realistically taper myself off of it made it impossible to feel I was clean in the first place. I had no desire to go score before treatment, but a liquor store every square mile or so has been the hardest thing to stay away from. I forget to take my Suboxone all of the time but I never forget when it is time to have a drink Which is slowly becoming whenever I feel the need to again. 10 in the morning, up all night with a rattling paper bag of airplane bottle sized schnapps. Never thought coming back to rehab would feel relieving to think about. A few of the women I was in with are back now too, so I suppose I shouldn't be too hard on myself.

Hey there Mark, so with me I’ve been taking Percocet for chronic pain for about 16 years, and over the last year my pain doctor tapered me down the Percocet from 6/ day to 5 to 4 over several months. I am now down to 2 Percocets a day and will stop tomorrow all together. My pain doctor prescribed Suboxone to start 24 hours after my last dose of Percocet. My body has been adjusting to a lower dose of Percocet but I still get withdrawals in between doses (shaky legs, restlessness, anxiety, etc). Will the Suboxone be hell for me you think? I also never asked my doctor how long I have to take this Suboxone for. You think it would be easier to just go off the Percocet and ride out the withdrawal since I am down to only 2 per day? Any help would be appreciated

@@U2FanSanFran I was taking suboxone for chronic back pain from a slipped disc. I would recommend not taking it very long at all 2 weeks a month at the most. The longer its used the harder and longer the withdrawal. It was designed to be taken for a week and to be tapered from the very first dose. It helps pain but is hell to come off of after any substantial time of use. Im at 3 months with no meds at all. Pain is still there but is bearable and feels great to not be dependent on any meds at all.

Everything can be broken down to molecules, atoms, etc. Claiming that a plant is not a chemical is an erroneous statement. We are all star dust, right? We are all spawn from carbon and heavier elements right? If everything here is carbon-based it is classified as organic chemistry. Organic (carbon based) chemistry (reaction of chemicals). You’re indulging in wordplay by not admitting your natural ibogaine plant is a chemical when you look at it under a microscope.

I was on 8 and 2 twice a day for a long time, i am now on 2 mg twice a day.
Itake one as soon as I wake up, and one right before bed...
why is it... that every time I wake up.. until about an hour after I take it...
i am MISERABLE. I am clammy, my back is killing me and im nauseated. and contact with cold air sends me into a tremor fit.
    Nothing seems to change it.
I feel like its my metabolism..
This shouldnt freaking happen. I was always told it should take a few days at LEAST before I started getting significantly sick. x_x
The only thing that tends to help is if i freaking take my med, and go sit in my bathroom with the shower running on as hot as i can get it.. until the room warms up, and THEN i get in the shower.. Usually by the time i get out im ok.

Please get some help my friend. It sounds like you're deep in the abyss. The longer you use, the more you're playing russian roulette with a fatal overdose. Get some structure, get serious and get on medication assisted treatment. I relapsed after trying to get sober six months ago and refusing suboxone. That relapse landed me in the ICU in a coma with a ventilator bc I couldn't breathe on my own anymore. My liver almost failed, I was on dialysis, poison control was working with my doctors collecting data. My girlfriend of 10 years had to come to the hospital with my family and say goodbye to me, as the doctor didn't think I would make it through night two. Narcan didn't work. For some reason, I pulled through and opened my eyes on the third day. The doctor didn't think I'd have any brain function since I hadn't been been found aspirated and unconscious for over 16 hours. I'll never forget the look of trauma on my family's faces. Four days later, I went into an outpatient recovery program and got on suboxone. Things got so much better. The despair and depression I was in while using started to get better. I could start to see things clearly and become myself again. It's now been six months that I've been clean, and I absolutely could not have done it without suboxone. My life has never been better than it is now. My liver returned to normal, and life is interesting again. I don't sit around thinking about death anymore. It's so liberating to be free from shooting up. There is an end to all the chaos, anxiety, and depression. I hope this reaches you, I don't want to come off as preachy or anything, I just see myself in what you typed and I don't want this disease to kill you. Wishing you all the strength, you've got this. One moment at a time.

I love the chemical highway analogy, because it perfectly illustrates the triviality of replacement therapy. if taking opiates for so long has decreased opiate receptors, and doctors know the brain needs a rest so it can recover, why give the brain yet more opiates? and to say an opiate gets rid of opiate cravings is like saying heroin gets rid of heroin cravings.

      1. Suboxone is not an opiate it's an opiate agonist. 2. It has a ceiling effect on respiratory suppression and a high analgesic efficacy- meaning it's much safer than an opiate and will not slow or stop breathing. 3. A therapeutic dose of suboxone does not bind all opiate receptors, leaving many to begin the healing process- and for your tolerance to drop, which is really just street lingo for the fact that the sensitivity of your receptors is returning. and 4. Anyone who takes it should have a plan before they start for when and how they will taper off- which should be light years easier for them now because they've been able to return to work and repair relationships due tot he fact that they no longer have any reason to lie or break the law daily.
Ppl like yourself remind me an awful lot of the virus and vaccine deniers in this country- you both have no idea what you're talking about, you both clearly distrust and do not understand medical science or academia, and neither of you are interested in listening or changing your mind about anything- this topic included. So I didn't really even write this for you- I wrote this for anyone who reads your post- now they have two points of view and can make a better, more informed decision about what to believe.

It most certainly can get you high. It tickles the same receptors your drug of choice was tickling. It has side effects similar to other opiates, perhaps less severe. If you ever want off it, you'll have to go through the withdrawal. It's highly stigmatized. You're not going to be treated well by medical personnel.

Gonna have to jump the big jump before I go to the suboxone appt because of precipitated withdrawal, which I very much don’t want to happen, so I’m terrified, but I’m making a step to better myself and get my self back on track. And some times in those low ass moments, and if you haven’t been there, you can’t speak on the matter. When ur at ur lowest, and ur brain has been rewires to habitually feel the need to do a drug? All we can make is the choice to better ourselves

@@benfalk5446 Sorry, trading one drug for an even more addictive drug is not the way to go. Ill pray for you, because if you are going to start taking suboxone, you will absolutely look back on this comment years down the road and absolutely regret the day you ever started it. The first couple of years on it are good though, so you have that to look forward to. But ultimately is makes you an unempathetic zombie after years of use, and its impossible to quit without getting major help.

@@MrJoelalfa I will be taking suboxone most likely for 15 days to days in a Full inpatient detox facility and getting off immediately, after, I do not plan on “taking suboxone” for longer than the immediate future, (at the detox facility, less than 20 day taper program. I’m going to be getting full time care from a physician who is going to do a fully customized plan for me, my body, and my addiction, even tho I’m doing it in the exact manner it’s supposed to be used in is the wrong choice? I’ve read that if you get care and treatment and use it how it’s intended as a short taper after my initial cold Turkey detox, is very affective, most of the negative things I read are when people abuse it, buy it on the streets, don’t get medical oversight

Broke both my legs in the shower. Got hooked. I found out later that I was taking Very, very few opioids COMPARED. I might have been able to cold Turkey. It’s hellish. But suboxone Is used for depression in Europe. In America , big Pharma OWNS every GD state legislature. They want people depressed and making crime, etc. screw them. Last year, nine of their kids died. That’s that Family Values BS they talk about but don’t practice. Anyway , I have not had a single bout of depression , which causes me to streak open -air putt putt facilities. Not indoor. Cures depression in Europe. They’d rather have homes broken into in the Bible Belt

I'm so glad to hear that your depression has left you. I figured out that because I have opoid use disorder thar without opiates in me, depression comes to me in the very darkest life ruining way. I have been on tramadol for 12 years and almost 2 years of that time I told my doctor I wanted off the tram. I had 3 major major foot surgeries in 2011. That's when he started me January 2011 on tramadol. Anyway the kratom worked miracles for withdrawal but I no longer could live with this unspeakable depression. I went back on tramadol in June 2022. I was convinced I could take them as prescribed. Well NO, NO, NO!! I absolutely couldn't. Tomorrow morning I have my very first suboxone appt. I'll be 60 soon. So maybe it would be worth it at this stage in my life to take suboxone indefinitely. I wouldn't wish that horrible depression on anyone. I will NOT go through depression like that again. Besides the fact that I desperately want to heal my brain from opoid use and abuse.

@@charlotteknutsen7262 in all honesty being on subs for the rest of your life is ok. I’m only 31 and I’m perfectly happy to be on subs for that long as well. Helps the depression in ways you didn’t think possible. I can get up and do what I want and need to do like never before and I don’t get any flak for being prescribed these things either. It’s ok to treat your problems if it’s in a way that works for you, don’t let anyone beat you down for it otherwise. Do whatever you need to do to live your life to the best you deserve you’ve earned it.
