  • What is Suboxone withdrawal like? Suboxone is a medication used to aid opioid addiction and alcoholism recovery. Suboxone is part naltrexone and part buprenorphine and helps to reduce opioid and alcohol cravings. Suboxone also provides relief from withdrawal symptoms when used correctly. One major concern when taking suboxone is taking it long-term and/or misuse of Suboxone can lead to suboxone addiction or overdose. When you stop taking Suboxone, you can experience withdrawal symptoms similar to other opioids and a tapering protocol may assist to prevent the symptoms. The safest way to detox from suboxone is with a medical program that does not rely on medication as a crutch. Detoxing will allow your body to eliminate the opiates from your system completely. Drug detoxing in a medical facility will ensure your withdrawal symptoms are monitored and treated appropriately. Suboxone withdrawal symptoms and side effects can include nausea and vomiting, depression, irritability and anger, intense cravings for suboxone or any opiate, fevers and chills, painful recurring headaches, muscle aches, problems sleeping, feeling lethargic, digestive problems, profuse sweats, anxiety, and/or problems with concentration. Most suboxone withdrawal symptoms should subside within a few days after the opioids clear the body; however, some withdrawal symptoms can continue for weeks or months, which is why professional help and support can be very beneficial. Suboxone can only assist with the physical dependency part of addiction and does not address the psychological aspects of addiction. Studies have shown that long-term treatment has improved the chances of continued sobriety. Northpoint Recovery is here to help you start your Day 1 www.northpointrecovery.com/co...

      On line I read that the withdrawal only last's 2 day's. WTF?? Are they trying to lie on purpose or is it that the people who make this drug don't want to tell the truth or no one would use it. I was in the clinical trial for this drug, and have been on it now for over 15 year's because of a broken neck and becoming addicted to the opiates they gave me. I can't come off it and have given it the best try anyone can claim more than once. It has changed my personality and has actually given me anxiety that I never had before taking this drug so now I am also on Xanax to curb the horrible panic attack's. If you and your Dr. have made plans for you to begin using this drug be VERY careful NOT to take it for any longer than the withdrawal's last from the opiates you are trying to come off of, if not you just trade one nasty drug for another and this one isn't going to give you any breaks with the withdrawal's. I wish I had never heard of this monster.

    Out of ALL opioids I have taken in the past 3 decades... Suboxone & methadone has been the worst! Physically - yes it does suck but it is manageable... Mentally - pure hell that drags on day after day, month after month, and even year after year. I found 3 clean years of being totally sober and realized never let your guard down... because the second you do, you’ll be back in the boat I’m in... now trying to get back off suboxone after 14 years. It seems hopeless and I am starting to see I am gonna need serious professional help. Opioid life sucks so much.

    I was on this drug for a year. The withdrawal lasted about a month. It was The worst detox experience I have ever had and I detoxed off fent before. The only thing that helped after 4 weeks was forcing myself to get out and do something. Once I got out and about (went tubing down the poudre river in Colorado) I found that most of the symptoms I felt deteriorated rapidly. Hope this helps someone going through that hell. It’s hard to force yourself to be active but it was by far the most helpful thing that I did. Also it DOES END. Long withdrawal like this makes things feel hopeless but it isn’t. Stay strong peeps

      Thank you Cooper! Your comment is the one I needed to hear. I am coming off of Oxy after 15 years because of Herniated discs and a tumor on my spinal cord. I am 63 years old and am on day 4 of withdrawals (for any that have beat it and are off of it, I apologize for possibly bringing back horrible memories). Last night I was about ready to leave here, you know! So I called the crisis hotline and was taken to the hospital. The doctor gave me Suboxone and gave me the information for an outpatient clinic, but after your comment Cooper I believe that the one 8mg sublingual they gave me last night/this morning is going to be my last. I don’t judge them, but it seems to me after 63 years on earth that doctors want you as customers like they’re selling us fruits and vegetables. I was able to spend some hours on my stoop out back my house and I know that you’re right about being as active as possible. Thank you brother.

      I’ll be of oxy and fent 2 years on Jan 10 2022
      I quit cold Turkey
      The fent withdraw was so horrible
      I never used suboxone cuz I put my self into a withdraw and I always got a weird feeling from them
      But as months went on of me being clean
      My girl was on the suboxone cuz she was on percs with me too
      Never the fent just me
      But she went to a clinic before I did and got on the strips
      So it was around me in my early stages of getting clean
      About 6 months in being clean
      I took a sliver of a sub and it let me sleep like the old days
      Now I take a peice every nite
      And I honestly don’t think I will withdraw if stopped but my mental makes me fear of finding out
      It’s the same feeling as not having the fent or oxy
      I been trying not to take it at nite but then I can’t sleep and I work very early so I end up taking a small peice just to fall asleep
      Trying to catch this shit before it turns into something I’ve already battled for many many years
      Honestly wish I was smarter at the time and never start taking the subs while being clean off everything
      No weed
      No liq
      No drugs In any way or form
      I’ve seen people that was on strips and stop getting theirs and then the people they knew that was ok em either stopped em or got out of that persons life and wen back to other shit to prevent the sickness
      Im thinking about taking a week vacation from work so I can have 9 days of suffering(smh) and be done with these subs
      Cuz they make you feel the same way as any other drug
      When I was clean clean I felt so good and it was for only 6-7 months
      But just the person and my character was more pure
      Being honest in any bad situation is the first step of recovering
      We all battle this shit as humans on this earth in this moment of life we live in
      But stay strong and always remember god will never put you threw something that he knows your not capable of handling
      Stay blessed up and stay safe out side
      It’s getting hectic more and more by the day no matter what time zone of the country your in

    Take it from me who've been on Suboxone for years. Just cut the strips smaller and smaller every 2 days or so it may take once a week to cut the strip smaller well this is going on you will have hot flashes and possibly stomach cramps I usually only get hot flashes with some edgy anxiety feelings but eventually you will walk your tolerance down you could do this without even the doctor knowing just cut each strip to a lower dose by calculating the milligram strip and how many cuts per strip is the milligram and you'll be fine it may take a full year to fully come off a high dose but you'll eventually make it blessings to all who are trying to get off Suboxone.

Also ( aside from my point) NEVER tell anyone you take this drug or you will have unwanted visitor's coming to your door all the time asking for your med's, I just went thru that yesterday with a person I knew from AA and they just wouldn't relent. I almost had to call the police to have them removed from my property and now they are threatening me over my not giving them what they wanted.

    Suboxone is not used for alcohol dependancy and it does not contain naltrexone, it contains nalaxone which blocks opioid receptors if the medication is injected. Also its very hard to "overdose" on buprenorphine, it is an opioid but its only a partial opioid agonist, it doesnt cause the same respratory depression or euphoria that other opioids do. Please do your research before giving out inaccurate information.

    Long term use of this medication when used as prescribed is not bad. I do not know anyone who overdosed when using this form of recovery correctly. In fact, making people feel guilty for taking this medication is causing problems for people, and addiction is not about whether a person is good or bad, or "strong enough" to go through recovery with no meds. This medication helps many addicts stay sober, live productive lives, and recover from trauma. There are studies that support this. It's fine if a person who has been on medication assisted treatment for a while feels ready to get off of it. But only if they really are ready. The whole point of the medication is to help people get used to living a more normal, stable and sober life. And not to get on it and quit after a month. Because, it's important that a person have time to get on their feet, and stay on their feet.

    @zzevonplant 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I know what you're trying to say, and I hate to be "that" person, but you said something inaccurate here, and I think it's important. You DO NOT have to be **addicted** to Suboxone/Subutex (or any other opioid, benzo, psych med, etc. for that matter) to experience withdrawal symptoms. The word "addiction" has a meaning, and you're technically misusing it - there's a difference between physical dependence and actual addiction. Lots of people are physically dependent that aren't addicted, but everyone that's addicted is physically dependent. And this is important to note, because people that are not addicted and know that they aren't, can often assume they will not experience withdrawal if they stop taking the medication - but they will. You will go through withdrawal if you've been taking it long enough regardless of whether or not you're addicted.
    Sorry, not trying to be obnoxious, but I think that's important for people to understand because I've seen several people suddenly stop taking opioids and benzos and such because they weren't addicted and assumed that meant they'd be fine if they just suddenly stopped taking it - and that wasn't the case, obviously, and they had a very bad time with that, as you can imagine. And they didn't understand what was happening and thought something was wrong with them and that they were dying. And a lot of people that are not addicted (but *are* physically dependent) could be in actual danger because they could stop cold turkey and have problems as a result of not tapering or seeking proper medical help, especially with certain things (like benzos) where the withdrawal can be much more dangerous than it is with opioids.

That’s not mental at all. Staying off marijuana is mental. Suboxone has a physical withdrawal that can last a while. Just because you stop shaking, pooping, and sneezing doesn’t mean your withdrawal is over. Not being able to sleep is physical not mental. They need to do better with the information they give out. It’s a good damn nightmare. Just as bad as the withdrawal from what you were taking prior to getting on the suboxone. All suboxone does is replace an illegal dependency with a legal one. All it does is delay the inevitable. Or you can just stay on it for life.

    • @jjww1
      @jjww1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been on it for two years now since I was 15, it is exactly like replacing an illegal addiction with a legal one, but the difference is in the naloxone. You don’t get high from taking suboxone as prescribed, and it’s much harder to overdose. Also, it allows patients to slowly ween off the opioids without feeling the intense withdrawal that you would feel had you just gone cold turkey. You have to spend 72 hours in withdrawl before you can be administered suboxone in the first place and those 72 hours are hell on earth and would make anyone desperate for something to take the pain away, and that’s where the harm reduction of taking suboxone instead of oxy contin, fentanyl, heroin, etc. comes into play.

I tried going more and let me tell you I have withdrawals everytime I've just lowered the dose just not as Hellish if I was to go cold turkey. Many things wrong with this video. Suboxone does not help with Alcohol whatsoever. It's naloxone that's mixed with the bup. Also, the withdrawal from suboxone can be way harder and way worse then getting off opiates in the first place.

  • @newgtguy
    @newgtguy 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Suboxone for alcoholism? Ummm, I don't think so. This wreaks of ignorance. I know Naltrexone is prescribed for Alcoholism. However, the Naltrexone in Suboxone is meant to deter abuse from injection. It is not bioavailable sublingually or orally. Buprenorphine is the active ingredient. It is a partial agonist opiate with very high affinity. And, it does make a person high! I know, I took it for 5 years. Now, is there therapeutic value to it? I'd have to say yes. Only, because it's available via prescription which breaks the "drug seeking" pattern. However, this could be done with any opiate.
    Question: what is your success rate? Odds are, it's

    • @danabella29
      @danabella29 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    If anybody wants off of Sub message me. I was 10 years on it and I've stopped it. Anyway, I know how to stop with little to no WD's.

    I was on suboxone for 6 years from 2015-Apr 2021. Before that, I walked cold off 115/day methadone, marijuana, and 3 pk/day cigarette habit with the Lord by my side in May 2010. I just didn't work my recovery in a support setting. Over time, I dabbled, Tramadol bout 3 years, finally submitting to this crap at the pain clinic I was at in 2015. I tried to detox myself slowly about 10 to 15 times in 6 years. I felt the call to just "bail" and turn my back on it, but I didn't heed that and stayed in my own thinking. What He knew that I didn't was that coming off 1 mg/day isn't a lot different from 16. It's so potent that any of it, and you're system is saturated. Same nasty game when you yank that final bit! PLEASE don't prolong the inevitable!
    Anyhow, I FINALLY took the plunge when I read the google news that DMX had OD'd on crack cocaine, because I was using some meth and coke too for several days before. Man.....I loved that guy, and it broke my heart. I'm 51, X was one month younger than me. April 7 was my first day without. A tough week, but when you listen to the Spirit of God, he just makes things possible with strength I really don't have. Day 8, I was contemplating using a tad to get one really good night's sleep. Every morning was squirts and crampy stomach. I remembered my buddy at CR (celebrate recovery) had given me some Kratom. 2 good teaspoons, and I was like new, but with a clear mind. It makes recovery so much more than just possible. If you want it.
    I still use it now, but it does not have the constipation and gut hardening effects of opioids. Also know that the other thing the Lord impressed upon me is that to not go back, I had to change EVERYTHING!!! I stepped up the gym routine to (2) 3 hour full body workouts a week, and adhered to a low-carb, high vegetable and moderate meat diet with a lot of stir-fries, chicken, fish, and a little beef. By july (3 months) I dropped from a "regular" 230 lbs to 195. I bottomed out at 182 a month ago, then actually began packing protein doing (3) 3-hour full body workouts a week. I'm now a very toned and strong 192lbs. Im at the lowest bodyfat of my life, and I feel better than I EVER did in my 20's or 30's!! I was in 38" waist jeans and now 31's are comfortable, 32's loose. My hormones are wildly different, I feel my sexuality again for the first time in years, and even young girls flirt with me at times, a lot of women my age do daily, and men steer clear. I'm more fit and capable, (power/weight ratio, endurance, speed, balance, etc) than prob 98% of men my age. I think and feel like I did in my 20's now, carrying that Alpha/dominance attitude that I thought was long dead and gone. PLEASE know that you can kick this crap, and that your body will thank you in spades. May the LORD bless y'all in your courageous struggle ahead that you WILL win out in the end!!! Know I understand the hopelessness and darkness it carries. It isn't permanent. AMEN.
    Remember, I'm just a guy that wanted to get free! Just a dummy that felt he needed this sht to live. Nothing special or different about me at all.
