A Qi Lin Bian is a Chinese weapon similar to bullwhip. However its body is a heavy chain that tapers at the end. Because it is a chain it has no transition point and is difficult to control even for an experienced bull whip practitioner. I recommend you find a teacher to teach you Qi Lin Bian as it is more dangerous and more difficult to wield than a bullwhip (Mu Yang Bian) or chain whip (Jiu Jie Bian) and contains elements and movements not found in any other weapon.

And here I was thinking my whip technique with a livestock version was good...haven't tried chains yet...looks interesting at least. Face protection during practice until you figure out the angles hopefully...seems I tend to keep my neighbors a bit silent on my Tai Chi in the area I live. I'm about peace, but will defend with anything handy, since I have this thing for the stick and what I can do being a drummer type and pretty good with hands now...drum rudiments and rolls help develop faster hands and reflex. Myofascial release...adds to the fun, if you know the connective tissue as well...I do, and it does wonders. Chi under control too, when you "jump" correct yourself, you're off target a bit on hand positions, so adjust and go smoothly through the fascial release needed to feel better. Fun....all of it. Understanding is key here...ancient and older than China perhaps...before recorded history was. It was, but part of a system of understanding. Fights between cultures divided the concept of all involved, so they show up as separate things, yet have been separated only by time and forgetting as people migrated to avoid conflict. Leftovers were picked up, modified by the new folks, who originated much during centuries. How do I learn this without taking classes? I've learned a lot too...yet got over the initial fear, once I understood the Earth holds tons of useful information, but it's non-verbal, most of it. We decode some of it, mostly by accident, it seems.

Is there a standard length for the chain?
finished a nylon 7'3'' a couple weeks ago. this will be helpful, because of the portions where the handle path is demonstrated with the index finger. thanks. any advice on how to build this, or similar?

Ok.. I found my whip while looking for a rope dart.. very impressed and I think I got this whole video down.. (I have a little trouble turning and continuing to load the whip AND carry the momentum in the proper direction [this thing has gut punched me a few times] during the overhead cracks) I wanna send you a video to criticize and continue my training.. where do I go?

I have a Castlevania Vampire Killer whip, and this just made me look bad. Nothing wrong with getting tips without getting my skull caved in, or my shins broken, but what a horrible night to have a curse for it to result in me getting hurt.

Are you ever worried that it may recoil and hit yourself? I've been trying to do overhead cracks with a regular bullwhip and that seems to be what happens all the time.
Send me a video and I can try and critique it if you like. I don't worry about it hitting me but one thing that helps is the timing. You have to give the loop enough time to travel. It may also be your hand placement
