I knew I'd like the Hasbro Star Wars Black Series Imperial Royal Guard, I just didn't know how much. I knew about the armor underneath, I knew I would probably need more than one. But this thing is so Crimson Empire that not only do I need two to flank my Emperor for some Return of the Jedi goodness but I'll need another set for at least Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax. It's that good.

I finally found 2 of these...definitely. in my top 10 favorite, just a little wash though to take off that plastic look would have made these even more incredible. I am so glad they went with that crimson guard look for the armor

Oh definitely. I can see why they skimped on paint though, it being under the robes
I'm glad they still gave the figure a neck hinge even though the helmet doesn't allow much movement, that way if you swap it with a regular head it still has that articulation. I'm planning on getting extra heads for the two I'm getting to make Erstin Deez and the clone guard captain from Lords of the Sith.
I want a bandai kit of this. Bandai Has Mastered that gloss injected Tone of Red in the rg sinanju it would look spectecular

You know, I remember having him but not a lot of memories of actually playing with him. I just had to Google to even remember if there was a body underneath. It must have been my brother's figure, we had to share a collection way back when.
There is a very happy 10 year old back in 1983 who loves this figure!!!!!

The Fwoosh Yep! I know just what you mean. I had to make a choice as to either getting One of each of the IRG and One Tusken raider or two IRG's to at least get those out of the way for now. Then I remembered already having a Tusken arriving soon in mail. Geesh!

Ordered 2 of these bad boys. Love your completist mentality in regards to still wanting some Imperial Dignitaries. Just waiting for Hera Syndulla, but passing on Qui Gon as I have a pre-order on the SH Figuarts for August. Would love to see your latest Star Wars display lineup.
My shelves haven't grown as much as I would like, not enough t do a video yet. A few more waves, a few more moves, should be good.
I wish there was paint on the undersuit but overall a lot cooler than I expected
Yeah, I can see them saying "No need for a lot of paint, it's hidden under there." And I guess I'm okay with that, just happy to get all that sculpt.

I find a bucket of hot water comes in handy for manipulating the soft goods when they won't play the game. Just a quick dunk and then go ahead and pose the figure. The fabric just hangs more naturally off the figure and dries exactly so.

I'm so buying 2 of these right now! It sucks, because I don't have an Emperor but I don't really care, I really love the design of the royal gaurds. Imo, this is where the black series really gets it right.
Totally agree. Badass troops and armored types, and then the aliens. All day every day.
Great review as always Robo, seeing them next to Vader makes me think they should be a just a little taller, but next to palpatine they look well enough, hopefully SHF eventually makes a Palpatine that comes with a Throne Accesory (at the very least a premium version that comes with it kind of like what they did with the first release of Vader) and these would look sick standing one on each side of Palpatine sitting in his throne.
I'd be completely down with that. And yeah, I picture them a little bigger, more imposing, but this is so good I don't mind too much.

OT, love the figure as a diorama builder, I just wish Hasbro would make a special pack with a sitting Emperor and a Throne (maybe throw some consoles and a dignitary in the mix?)
Oh hell yeah, I'd be down for an Emperor and throne, definitely. And yeah, it's either a flood of one or another type figure, I've still got enough Star Wars to run through next week, haha.

I was thinking about putting the Death Squad Commander head on the Royal Guard, then I saw your version, cool.
The neck balls don't match up, the Royal Guard neck ball is bigger. But a little dremeling and it should work out.
Always love your reviews man, I can't stand soft goods and 8:24 is what got me excited! I have to look into those kotobukiya royal guards, that's exactly how I wished they had done the royal guard's robes.

Keep in mind, the Koto guards are just statues, there is no body under the robes. ADDOITALLDAY Collecting action figures can really be quite stressful sometimes. Never sure if you will be able to find the figures you want or be able to preorder them in time

And if they could bring a new version out and see some improvements I’d buy 2 more to replace the others.

I wouldn't go about getting Kir Kanos and Carnor Jax just yet - you might get Hasbroed again! It's almost certain that at least one will be in the Guards of Evil 4 pack later this year, given how much of a big deal Hasbro made of the Crimson Empire armour on this figure.
I'm thinking that set may lean towards an Episode 8 type set, but it may be worth waiting and seeing. Plus there's no way I'll get anything done by then so uh, yeah, that was my plan all along, haha!

JTA who, though scumbags, are usually pretty accurate about upcoming releases, suggested it would include a Senate Guard, Shadow Guard, Royal Guard and one of Snoke's Guards, and as none of the 4 packs have contained direct repacks thus far, I'm hoping the Royal Guard is a Crimson Empire variant, with the staff and narrower cape and everything. I doubt Hasbro would go to the effort of sculpting the armour if they didn't plan to use it!
Another throne room/Emperor's arrival character I'd like is Moff Jerjerrod.
I really hope we get a model kit of this guy

I had the original back in the day and loved it so I picked this up. He was always one of my favorite background characters
just opened mine and the leg joints are so weak it does the splits. There is no way it will stand after a year

I have a question, you say to heat the figure a lot how do you normally
do that put the figure in hot water in a bowl or something? Great review of a cool figure, I just pre-ordered 2 of mine. Anyone watching this video avoid Amazon they try to gouge you severely. I paid $21.99 for each of mine from Dorkside toys.
Sometimes I use hot water but most of the time I just use a heat gun on a low setting.
4:57 - and that's a prime example of why Japanese import figures have spoiled me. First it was a Monsterarts Godzilla here and there, then the Turtles; but when Mafex and Figuarts started to do Star Wars and Marvel...forget about it. I can't look (or feel) at Hasbro the same anymore. With the occasional exception, they really are like straight up toys by comparison. But I still love me some gummy Hasbro toys, while the import companies sing...

I had heard about that, something about Bandai cracking down on the third party sellers because of it being an exclusive or something? I heard a lot of cancellations from some site called Nin Nin too. Mine from Nippon-yasan shipped and is in the states. Weird how it only affected some sites.

ROBO! Yo dude! a few months ago I found the black series 3.75 royal guard. It had an unmasked head with a guard helmet that went on top. I'm curious if you still have your 6 inch Marvel Legends doctor strange. maybe the Strange head could work as a Carnor Jax head. IDK Just an idea.
Hmmm, I may have to give that a try, although the ML heads may be too big for Black Series.

I have no idea where you're going with that but I'm intrigued. Standing side by side with the new 40th Vader the KO is about the same height and proportions.
Dremel out the bootleg head It may fit straight over the old Anakin head . Paint the Royal guard head black with a red visor.Remove Vaders chest plate and start experimenting with one of the black rickhor robes .You will end up with an awesome black mutant royal guard.
