    I'll start off by saying I commented on a previous video you posted, and I believe you had a nice response. Thank you for that, I appreciate it. The reason I bring that up is because I've had a few drinks this evening and there is a potential that I am about to repeat myself. Whether or not I am repeating myself, I will start off by saying that I was at this show. It was awesome, but the fans and Opeth froze our asses off. It was cold as fuck. Opeth is one of my all time favorite bands. They say you should never meet your heroes, but Opeth are my heroes and I got to have beers with them. They were the kindest, most welcoming people I've ever met. They are the exception to the rule and if they are your heroes, meet them if you can. I've lost count, but I think I'm approaching seeing them live 30 times. My first time seeing them was on the cycle for the Damnation/Deliverance tour, which I believe was their second time in the US. I feel like I had a point to make when I started this comment and I lost it three words in and just started talking about my experience with the band. Perhaps some day I'll remember what I meant to say and leave a second comment. Until then, let's just keep enjoying the band.

    Damnation as an album is perfect, and this song has always been a favorite of mine. It hits me in the heart and the bones.
    I think the issue people have with the change is that there was always a balance between dark and light. It's what made them very appealing to me decades ago. If you like this side of Opeth, you should check out the band Katatonia. I feel like you would LOVE them. I'd recommend the song "Sweet Nurse" or "Teargas" to start.
    The two bands also have mixed together with a straight death metal band called Bloodbath as well.
    Sorry, I always recommend stuff. I have so much obscure knowledge, I just like to pass it on. Even if it's just for you to check out and not for a reaction. We seem pretty aligned on music tastes. Great reaction as always. Keep it up

    Opeth is my favourite band of all time. Their discography is just absurd. Damnation is an amazing driving album. Put it on for long, winding roads on a rainy day. Holy shit. If you haven't checked out their latest, In Cauda Venenum, is a bloody masterpiece, as with most of their albums. All the growl purists are missing so much, simply because their newer albums only have clear voice.

    • @theuniversewithin74
      @theuniversewithin74 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      @@TheWolffAndTheMelody Picking 5 top songs from Opeth is almost impossible. It's easier to name my top 5 albums: Ghost Reveries, Still Life, Watershed, Damnation and In Cauda Venenum are my favourites, but I love pretty much their entire catalogue. If I had to pick one song out of all their masterpieces, I'd say Harlequin Forest encapsulates everything I love about Opeth. I discovered Opeth when Ghost Reveries came out and it blew me away. I listened to GR every single day for over 2 years. I love earlier Opeth too, but GR was the first album with monumental sound and depth. I wish they remastered some of their earlier works, because to me the soundscape is "too thin" for my liking, although the material is stunning. Watershed is simply mindblowing and I fully appreciate their department from growl. In Cauda Venenum is to me absolutely stunning with the best outro ever made in All Things Will Pass. If I had to pick one discography to bring with me to a deserted island, I'd say Opeth in a heartbeat.

    • @theuniversewithin74

      @@TheWolffAndTheMelody The Moor is just gorgeous. Opeth is one of the most diverse bands ever. They can go from classical accoustic to ambient to demonic death and black metal and back - in whatever order they see fit. They Have an amazing sound and progression and even though their lineup have changed several times, they always have stellar musicians. But I think it's safe to say that Åkerfeldt has always been the spine and heart of Opeth. He's a musical genius that is always adventurous. His clear voice is criminally underrated, he's a seriously competent singer and guitarist and his growl is just monumental and downright demonic.

    I stumbled across your channel earlier today and watched some of your Nightwish and Epica reactions and I just wanted to say that I have been loving the journey. So with that said, regarding Opeth, picking a favorite by them is really hard as most songs I love from them have a place, some more of a headbanging vibe and some more of a mellow chill out vibe if that makes sense. But if I had to pick one I have to go back to very early Opeth in the 90's and "To Bid You Farewell"

    The one thing I like less about this specific recording is that the bass is drowned out somewhat. Martin Mendez has done such phenomenal work with this song.
    My favourite Opeth album is Ghost Reveries. But they really haven't made a bad song in my opinion. Each album is its own mood and each song is exactly where it belongs. I've been a big fan for over 20 years. They certainly helped me get through some very dark times.

    I've seen Opeth 9 times live. Some decent shows - the best two I saw were when they played with Porcupine tree, and the other was Dream Theater. Unlike yourself though, I was a little disappointed when they went head-on into prog and lost the death edge in their recordings. Not saying they're bad, but based on what they have produced, and to my opinion the best when mixing clean/death within a song, I miss that. I also very much miss Marin Lopez's drumming. Axenrot isn't bad, but Lopez just had a jazz/groove edge to his drumming. Deliverance live or recorded to me really highlights Lopez. Nice reaction.
