To answer your question about whether this is true to the studio version, it is. This song came off their Damnation album, and it was their first full album which all clean vocals, clean guitars and heavier on the synths. Up till then, it was a radical departure from their earlier works which always had some elements of death metal. In hindsight, it was a sign of things to come as their latest works have abandoned much of the death metal elements.

This is a pretty nice ballad! Very chill song, and very good musicianship! Singer's got a nice, pleasant voice, as well.

this band would eventually stop incoroporating death metal into their music altogether. nowadays they experiment more with jazz and folk music.
