Yeah, and he gets all of that joyful noise out of a stripped-down kit. I hate seeing a tractor-trailer's worth of drums on a stage. All that hardware ain't necessary if you're doing it right.

There was a group in the NY/NJ area late 70's/early 80's by the name of Ronnie and the Jitters that also added lyrics to this instrumental. It was a great version with sax included. Beaver Brown also did a rocking cover of Wild Weekend.

Found out a local Drummer I knew was an NRBQ fan like me even though I admitted I never got to see them live . They are on my bucket list . I sent him this clip . I said that that Drummer is a fat Italian American boy like me and I know he wolfed down a big bowl of spaghetti and meatballs and chased it with some merlot or Chianti get those chops . This Drummer I know can play anything even jazz like Buddy Rich . To my surprise my Drummer friend said “ Yes Excellent Drummer ! You get it ! I am one of those who have Ringo in my top 5 . Fuck Neil Peart ! “.
This is a vocal version of the instrumental of 1963 by the Rockin' Rebels which featured a cool saxophone playing the melody. I much prefer that version. NRBQ have added a mid 8.
It was originally the theme song for Buffalo's WKBW-AM Tommy Shannon. John Fogerty copped the tune & paid homage to Buffalo in Centerfield's "Rock 'n' Roll Girls." Songs like this never get old.
The original lyrics were: "Top tunes, news and weather this is the spot where things get better on the Tom Shannon show (KB radio)" Buffalo DJ Tommy Shannon wrote it as his theme song!
Really one of the best rockabilly, rock, improv and jazz drummers ever. Love his story of getting invited into NRBQ. Saw them many more times than I can count in CT. MA, RI and NY in the 70’s and early 80’s. Always a great show, lots of laughs, dancing and, may I add, very nice and approachable gentlemen. Missing Tommy, he passed way too soon. Rest in love, Tommy.
I hope you read my warning about not being overly critical of people on my channel? He hasn't yet responded to my question, let alone yours, so, until he answers, let's not "pile on", okay? Otherwise, I will pull the plug......
Agree, better lyrics - but poor bass, all hi end. California Sun '65 i prefer to the original for this reason. It just sounded better. Too bad they didn't 'fix' this 1 too. My favorite of all was the original instrumental Wild Weekend by the Rockin' Rebels.
Part of what he is doing, on this particular number, is what is referred to as "comping". Terry Adams can play rings around many other keyboard players who attempt to play "rock" music. If you haven't yet listened to him, for background on what seems to be "wrong notes" to many a person's ears, try listening to one of his influences, Thelonius Monk. That will give you two lessons on what is considered by some, to be music: techniques, as well as sound. "Feel" is another important part of performance, some will also point out. Hope that helps to answer your question; or was it just rhetorical in nature, to begin with?
Connecticut's own Al Anderson, saw him on I-91 one day, in an old Oldsmobile, license plate said NRBQ. Best ever. Al is from Windsor, CT.
He was a Wild Weed in Windsor!
EXCELLENT. These guys took the old Rockin' Rebels surf song and added vocals and lyrics and did a killer version.
Added a bridge, too, Love both versions!
They should compile all their tv appearances and live concerts and release them on to DVD,
Tommy is beating those drums like they owed him money!
Just saw this great video for the first time. I absolutely love your comment about the drummer...I'm letting you know I am going to steal it!

Perfectly imperfect, loosely tight. NOBODY plays keys like Terry, and Tommy beats that snare like it come home dirty! 🙏
That Les Paul Gold Top looks like a ukulele on Big Al!
That's why they call him Big Al
