In the mid nineties I was the drummer in a band called "The Dirtclods" from Knoxville Tn. We
had the honor of opening for NRBQ twice - one show in Knoxville and another show in Nashville Tn. a couple of weeks later. As we were loading our gear in, Tom Ardolino walks up and says "Hey man, you're welcome to use my drum kit if you want" (sometimes the drummer with the opening act has to set up in front of the headliner's drum kit and sometimes the drummer with the headlining band can be very picky about their drums being played by someone else) So we walked over to his kit and he says "you're welcome to move anything around to make it more comfortable for you..if you want to move the cymbal stands around or move the toms around that's fine." and then we stood there and talked about drums for about 30 minutes. I have always been a HUGE fan of NRBQ and Tom Ardolino is one of my favorite drummers. His grooves are so unique. As a drummer he has had a huge impact on me and my approach to drumming. That was without a doubt the coolest experience I have ever had playing music. He was such a nice guy. I'm blessed to have had that experience. I will never forget it

Yep, I'm sure you know many bands are picky about others using their axes, cables, amps, mics, etc. I know a band that opened for Exile once & they wouldn't let my friend's band use ANYTHING of theirs (perhaps they'd had bad experiences w/that). So, yeah, that's a great story that Tom let you use his gear. Awesome!

This is a bad ass video of NRBQ at their finest. The tune is awesome and they’re all uniquely talented.
Joeys voice is so sexy, Al killed the guitar , Terry is just fun and Tom was a humble drummer.
I saw NRBQ today and only Terry remains as an original member.
It was still a fun show after being cooped up so long.
It all goes by in a blink. 💃 🎤

Terry Adams is the Jackson Pollock of piano playing. An abstract impressionist; where ever he dripps his fingers (fits, elbows, belly you name it) on the keyboard it's widen (or wipe out) the borders of music.

Saw NRBQ at Woody's Roadhouse in Washington MA (been shut down for years) in 1988 I believe, anyhow, it was hot in there an Terry Adams had a large fan mounted on top of his piano so his long blond hair is like straight back in the heavy breeze while he plays the most twisted and brilliant full bodied piano jams. one of those moments of rock n roll that can't be forgotten

Oh, this band was sooooo good. I know there's a new line up and god bless em, but the original line up was truly the one to see. They were always in on the joke and although many in the crowd didn't get it, the true Q fans did. Their swagger was well deserved because they were so extremely talented. I started compiling a Spotify list awhile back and I quickly got to 90 songs. 90! I don't have that many favorites from any other band, Beatles, Beach Boys, etc. This band's music just never gets old. Miss them!!

I got to see them a handful of times in super small venues in the late 80's. Mainly, Ella Guru's in Knoxville, TN to an overflowing house. What a sonic bomb. Just mind blowing. Joey? Wtf with that upright sound coming from a Dan Electro? Tommy? The best... My favorite intro was them coming to the stage through the club to a loop of The Beach Boys, Two Girls for Every Boy. "Two girls... two girls, two girls for every boy!".... with hilarious shit-eating grins on their faces. I later saw them once at The Library (a bar) in Knoxville and there were less than 10 people there. The band seemed super dejected... except Al. He played like he was playing o 10,000. That always stuck with me. Legend.

THIS iteration of NRBQ is arguably the greatest band ever, this performance among their wildest yet most solid. They did everything those fab dudes (or anyone else) did except maybe invent certain things musically/culturally, but they were just as proficient as songwriters, undeniably better musicians, and they had that off the wall weirdness factor - the thing that probably cost them as much fame as it bought them. Captain Lou was a great tune though! Sadly, his name as their manager wasn't enough to propel them to The Hulk-o-sphere. They really were just a bar band until (and after!) the Virgin deal around the time of this clip, a last ditch effort to reach the masses that failed. Watching these guys have to argue with a club owner to get fully paid a few years after this was very sad...
Seriously, if you like this, there's a whole giant catalog of studio stuff that almost nobody knows about. The Peek-a-Boo best-of is a great place to start. Someday, maybe hundreds of years from now, should there still be humans, I have a feeling this band will find its audience. Until then you can feel cooler than everyone else.

W/o Tommy and Al can't bring myself to see them with Terry and 3 other guys. But man that classic lineup rocked. One concert in particular - some club in Bridgeport Ct on the campus of UB. One eye on the stage the other in the parking lot to make sure your car wasn't being stolen. Had to be less than 100 people if that many. Someone yells out to Al - "Nobody here but fans Al". Next thing I hear from the stage "Hit it" and of course they reduced the place to rubble.

Today was the 50th Shaboo Inn Reunion concert. They have a new outside stage on Main Street in Willimantic.
Terry is the only original member left.
The show brought back the best memories and everyone was dancing outside! 💃🎤
      I surely miss the others.
