This video is a lot clearer than most I've seen about this subject, but I wish you wouldn't assume that people have done servers before. This is my first time attempting this, and yours is just one of many videos and pages I've seen or read. But I wish someone would give the info as if someone was doing this for the first time, because that's why I've had to look for so much info, everyone assumes you know how and why you do many things.

Not sure what to tell you, I I stopped running servers for this years before the epic version released. I do not have the Epic version to test so I cannot be much help with it.
Thanks heaps for the tutorials mate, really helped me out, and worked perfectly first time thanks to your tips (watched most of the vids). Took afew hours to get it set up the way I wanted (still some tweaking to do after testing it in game), and the vid on extinction core really helped out too, had me baffled why it wouldn't download. And it took a bit but it appeared in the unofficial server list, so now I can play with mates without the stupid host tether Appreciate the effort you put in, you earned a sub :)
TBH I have not attempted this in Windows 10 or 2016 Server, so I cannot give you an answer. Hopefully someone here will be able to shed some light on this for you.

Hey thanks for the tutorial, what would you recommend as VM settings for the server? (assuming Qemu, I'm on an unraid server) Is there a site with just ready-ark-server-manager VM images? :D oh and I ofc want to set up a cluster (because reasons) what would that VM need? .. I tried doing it in docker, but that blasted my server's logs full and I had to full restart >.
Setting up three servers on a cluster for each of the maps using ASM. Got pretty much everything sorted, but just need to clarify a few settings. The first being the Dino Spawn Amounts currently as an example ASM has DinoSpawnWeightMultipliers=(DinoNameTag="Therizinosaurus",OverrideSpawnLimitPercentage=True,SpawnLimitPercentage=1.0,SpawnWeightMultiplier=1.0) for the Therizinos, and pretty much the same limit and weight for every other dino and creature. Which values do I need to change to reduce how many spawn on my maps and which values do I change to increase how many spawn on my maps? Because looking at different guides and posts I see conflicting info. Then in the Structures setting of the program there is an option for "Allow Structures at Supply Drops" but then the tooltip when you hover over it says "If enabled will prevent placing structures at supply drop locations." which is a contradiction, so which is it? Does it allow structures or disable them? I want to disable structures at supply drops, beacons, obelisks so players can use them to transfer between my three servers.
The Dino Spawn overrides are a bit tricky... If you want less, lower both numbers. For example lets say I add the Therizinosaurus to spawn at Carno Island/Monster Island. If I enter 1 and 1 for the weight and percentage... they will overtake the island. But if I enter .001 and .001 then the spawn at a decent rate. It seems like each spawn area is a little different though... As far as the structures setting is concerned, I normally leave it as its default setting which allows me to build at Obelisks and Supply drop areas. Hope this helps a little bit!
I followed everything stated but I'm having an issue that my server doesn't even show up in the Ark Lan server list but I can see it in steam view server list (under LAN). All ports are forwarded and I was able to play on the server by joining the server on steam server view list but ( a day later) I can't join.
I followed your tutorial a couple months back and everything had been operating very smoothly until one day I couldn't open ASM. I am only able to open the program within the first few seconds of my computer being on now and the program stops working and shuts down before I can do anything. I deleted the program and my ASM folder and tried starting fresh following your tutorial again but I am still not able to open the program. Any advice?
Just wondering what kind of hardware you would need for 3-4 maps?, I want to host a sever for my friends so there would be about 20 people max across the 3-4 maps. Anything you could recommend?
I hosted 3 servers for 10 people and each took about 8GB of RAM. Now that was several years ago before the newer map releases so not really sure how that has effected things.
I have not tested it, and I am really not sure since ASM downloads from Steam and uses Steam workshop for mods. What I found online: "Both platforms will support crossplay, which will be enabled on our Official Servers between Steam and Epic Games and Unofficial Servers can choose to opt-into enabling crossplay or not." it looks like there should be a setting for it maybe... but I am not sure if they have added it or not.
Successfully have a server for myself cause singleplayer has alot of bugs cave dinos, resource spawning etc... Now... How did you make it use only 1 core? i dont need all cores on a server with just me... Or does it auto utilize them?
What i find hard to find is where the option is where it say how many dino's spawn, because for some reason in my server there are not that many dino's. so where can i find that.
Me and my friend are trying to play this game from epic games, I downloaded the server manager, port fowarded everything, disabled windows firewall, even disabled my router firewall. I also added the -crossplay command to server launch settings to finally get the server to even show up in the server browser inside the game. Now the problem is that I and only I can join the server I set up but my friend gets connection timed out every time he tries to join. I can join the server I made but he can't. We did everything backwards, him running the server and he can join but I can not. Where the hell is the problem in this?
Help i did everything that was said and it worked i even did mods on your other tutorial . I loaded the server before i went to bed closed it and woke up and tryed to load it and its giving me a fatal error It gave me option to shutdown server ,immediately , Or let it do it on its own in giving time I clecked force and ever since that server loads then gives me fatal error.
i have a question... i used this tool also to create five server... but i have a problem that only one Server is showing up in the LAN Enviroment... Not need to puplish this to the internet i will only play in lan... But only one of the five server on the second PC is visible. I had used other Ports to every server. Any Idea who my Problem is?
I ran the test server on the same computer, but it pushes it hard with only one person connected to it. It is best to use a different computer. Depending how many people you want connected it doesn't have to be a super computer or anything. I have an old AMD quad core with 8Gb RAM and hosted 5 people without an issue. However, if you want to add a lot of mods, change to a modded map, or host for a lot of people.. you may need a computer with more resources. Also internet upload speed is important if you are having friends join you.
hey, seemed to get it working so that me and my brother can see it on lan, but we cant get it to unofficial, i think the problem is my ip but im not really sure which to use while port forwarding, we used the 192 one, we werent supposed to use our public id right? tried checking that website and our server didnt show up there either. ill try to restart it maybe it needs a reboot or something
Yes you use the local servers IP address and not the public for the port forwarding. You have to forward the server port and query port (default is 7777 and 27015 i believe) and it has to be done for UDP and TCP if your router does not have a both option you would need 4 separate entries. Also the unofficial list will take some time to populate and is a bit moody. So if you want to invite your friends from outside your LAN give then your public ip and the query port for them to add into their Steam favorites.
This video may be old, but I have a question. I've been trying to add me and my friend as an admin, did everything that was done in the video, yet it says under 'Steam Name' if I put mine and their ID in. Am I doing something wrong? Or are we still going to be admins even though our Steam name isn't showing in the ASM?
I have a problem : when I start the serv I saw on the command "SteamSocketsOpenSource : gethostname failed ()" and "gethostbyname failed" So I can join my serv in LAN but I don't see my serv on internet serveur and my friends cant join me Do you know how to resolve this ?

I considered a few different options along the way... I record on a Windows 7 machine which already had Virtual Box installed, so it was just convenient more than anything else. Glad you found the video helpful, and good luck on your channel!
I feel ya. I would recommend trying it out. also. if you upgrade to windows 10 it has Hyper-V Built into it as well. It's pretty quality IMHO, coming from a Sys and network admin. I agree, Hyper-V is a good one. I use it at work and it gets the job done. Not sure if you have ever played with vSphere or not, but it actually bench marked better for me when I was doing testing. Its free for up to 2 processors. Thanks for the kind comments!!
Okay, I need to ask a few questions before I can help: 1) Are you running the server on the same computer as you are playing on? 2) When you say the game will not launch do you mean the game will not start up at all, or do you mean that you are trying to join through the Steam server list and it fails? 3) Are you getting an error when the game does not launch?
Does this have to be hosted on the same computer you play ark on? or can it be seperate, I have 2 computers and the one i generally use for hosting and other backup things, does not have ark installed.

@@justinfriedman1186 Understandable, and ya running a server on a virtual machine with a full OS takes a lot of resources. Unless you are actually dealing with server hardware it is better to stay away from Virtual Machines.

Do you know if you can make a cluster from servers you have through the Microsoft store? I have my own server but its not through steam. I would like to know if there is a way to link two servers I have?
The cluster has to share a folder.. basically the player profile moves to that shared folder, then moves to the next server... so I don't think you would have much luck with it. Possibly if you could make a share, map it as a drive on both servers.... and vpn into the share....but I am guessing you would have some pretty bad time out problems...
So it seems like I can easily join the game and play it fine, but for some reason the ARK Server Manager keeps saying that it's waiting for the the server to go public (and it's been like this for almost an hour now), so me and my friend can't play online together. This is my first time doing anything like this so it's possible that something is wrong, but idk what. Do you know what could be causing this
Double check your port forwarding. Make sure the server and query ports are forwarded to your server's IP address for both UDP and TCP. If your router has a "both option" you will have 2 separate entries. If not, then you will have 4 entries. Give your friend your public IP address and the query port. Have them add that information in to their favorites using View Servers.

Okay so I'm using an Arris TG852 and I've filled out everything, the Virtual Server, and the Server Trigger with TCP and UDP, and I used the default 7777 and 27015. Yet for some reason it still says that my ports are not forwarded, and the server will not show up on the Unofficial page. I've tried MULTIPLE things yet my ports will not open? I'm just wondering what could possibly be the problem? I have a Dynamic IP as well, which I know will cause problems. However, the IP stays for a few days which should mean that when I put all the information into my network the server, and ports should say open for at least as long as the IP is the same correct? I've seen people have Dynamic IP's and still have the ports be open, but once the IP is changed the ports close again. I'm wondering why mine wont even say that its open?
Have you ever port forwarded anything else on that router before? I have read some people are recommending bridging a second router to the Arris and using it to do the port forwarding.
No, this is my first time trying to port forward anything. But I called my internet provider and figured out that i was doing everything correctly when port forwarding.
However, I went ahead and downloaded the software from portforward.com so that i could make sure my ports are forwarded, and make sure that i was after all doing it correctly. I found out that my ports are forwarded after all, but my game still isnt showing up for my friends, and when i use different sites such as yougetmysignal.com to see if my ports are open while the server is running. They all say they're still closed? Am i not putting the correct ports on my router? And what Ports am i supposed to open, besides 7777 and 27015?

If you have the port forwarding set up, try having your friends add the server to their favorites on Steam. You will need to give them your public IP address, and the game port you are using. You can find your public IP by typing "whats my IP" into Google. The will use your Public IP and the game port separated by a ":" (ex. 100.100.100.100:7777) It sometimes takes a while for the server to show up in the list, but this can get them access even if it is not showing up.
im getting an error where i cant change the max xp it will auto set it to 9000000 for dinos and 1798540 for players, i put 300000 for dinos and 150000 for player and it resets to the stats i listed above.
First, make sure your game.ini is not open in a text editor then try using the reset button beside the max xp fields and save. Set to what you want and save again. Open your game.ini to see if the settings stayed. If not, set them in the text editor and save the file and edit it in ASM again and save. Hopefully they stick.
I want to get a computer to host stuff instead of paying for it, bc cluster servers are expensive as hell, what is good for supporting 10 players max for all servers combined (i want to host 5 maps)
oh wow... 5 servers of the same box is going to take a lot of RAM I think each server takes between 4 and 7 GB depending on the map. The Center is a bit of a hog.... you would almost have to look server hardware to handle that much.
I cant get ark server manager to launch without error :/. Had to build server hard way. Looking into changing ini files and I will try and re download this server manager. Question Twitchy- Can I upload my server into this manager? (Dont want to lose our saved data) Its all on pc.

hey man i found this video very helpful in terms of making my server, however, after following the directions you've displayed in the video including port forwarding etc and checking other sites and videos to make sure I've done them correctly(and i and 100% sure i have)i can only find my server in LAN how do move it to a public server?
It takes some time for them to show up in the server list. You can also look for it here: www.battlemetrics.com/servers/ark To make sure it is accessible through port forwarding have a friend try to connect by adding the servers IP and Game port into their favorites server area in Steam (ex. 100.100.10.100:7777) If they can connect then you know the game port itself is good to go.

Not sure if it will help but I found this in an online knowledge base: Error! App '376030' state is 0x*** after update job" -This error occurs when there is still an update task running in the background. -Closing an update window does not end the update process, it will continue to run in the background until completing. -If the server was online when the update was run, it will be started automatically after completing. -This error will disappear once the background update has completed and you will see that the service is "Already Up to Date" in the Steam update window. -You will also receive an error when trying to delete the Steamapps folder due to the files being in use from the updater. A force validation is not required in this situation.

Idk whats going on now but my friends cant add my server to there favorites through steam and cant join. it says its not responding. I gave them my public ip and the server port and it says not responding. But im in my server and its running fine
@@TwitchyDigitsGaming figured it out, near the bottom of administration there is affinity cpu, 2 processors equals 1 core and u can select and deselect the amount u want
My server works really fine, clusters, ping and everything works so well except one problem, whenever i login back or when i die I'm forced to create a new character and cannot use the character i was progressing with, it dosent let me "spawn in a random location" or anything just forces me to create a whole new character... Any reason for causing this ?
I would try deleting your profile off every server in the cluster and try connecting again. Also just a FYI you have to log back into the server you logged out of when you reconnect every day. Your profile stays on that server until you cross ARK travel then it moves your profile to that server.
@@TwitchyDigitsGaming i don't have any profiles on any other cluster arks it's a brand new server but i just cannot save my character i had a level 70 character yesterday and when i logged back in it was gona and the game forced me to make a level 1 character all over again, i tested this problem by killing the level 1 character and it asks me to make a new one again and again, i never travelled to any other arks and i normally stay in my server continue to testing it until it works perfectly, so far this is the only issue, anymore ideas on how to fix this problem or i did a mistake on the character and world saving files or something ?
@@TwitchyDigitsGaming sorry man i was in hardcore mode whole time i was too dumb to realise that lol, and i got a new problem now but i think you can't do anything about it, when the server is starting it gets stuck on "0]PID: 2380" and never goes any further, it's also slowing down my pc by alot, it used to take 13 seconds to boot the server now it wont boot anymore i somehow think this software is creating massive amount of junk files bloating up my system when i check the storage it isn't even half full but the server never starts... Also I'm gonna subscribe to you and turn on the notification bell, thank you so much for replying to me, i was feeling so depressed lol, keep getting problems after problems, just gonna clean up my hard drive and check it but my pc works just fine other than the server stuck on booting forever
If you are using 7777 and 27015 both ports need forwarded for both UDP and TCP packets. Can you see the server on your lan? Also try giving your friend your public IP followed by the port so they can add it to their steam favorites (ex 100.100.100.100:7777) and see if they can connect using that.
I followed the instructions and believe I did everything correctly. However I cannot find my server on the lists and when I tried to add my sever to my own favorites in steam both the 7777 and the 27015 are both < not responding>. Any ideas? I can see my server above both of ports that are not responding but I think that is because of lan. I have not had a friend try them yet as I didn't think the server would work.
Did you filter the server list to LAN? Also if you are on the LAN and try to add a server to your favorites you would (in most cases) need to use the server's internal IP address, not your public IP. The Public IP is only needed if you are outside of your network.
I know this vid is really old but I hope you are still around to respond or help me. So I have been playing on a server with my buddy and we were wanting to make a server cluster so we could move from the island to scorched earth. So I did that and now whenever I start the server we have been playing on it's like it is a brand new save. How do I use my old save and place it over the newly made Island save so that I can move between maps?

This might be a very dumb question... My IP changes every day - ofc. When friends outside my network want to join (port-settings done right ofc) my server, do I have to update my IP every day in the Maneger?
Yeees...I think it does. I am talking about my "normal" IP adress, it changes everyday. Its normal that your internet provider changes your IP adress everyday - at least where I live. I can remember that I have run a Minecraft server many years ago with Hamachi (I am pretty sure you know how it works). So you dont have to use your own IP adress for the server itself. Do you think I can run the Ark server with a simulated LAN-network over Hamachi? And thanks for the fast reply
Pretty sure Hamachi is a VPN so ya, as long as your friends are set up with VPN access into your LAN then their computer's will think that they are part of your internal network. Just be careful who you let in.
Sure I will. Dont worry I am not a young kid who wants to invite everyone to its super special minecraft server ;-) I think the IP-problem wont be a big deal. I am setting up the server right now. I have to say two things. First, this tool is so awesome. I can switch off those "non-dinos" which were released by the Ark-team. Like the monkey, the wolves and so on. I am kinda a rollplayer^^ Second, you are awesome too. For real, only this video helped me a lot. Thanks for that. Now I got another little problem. Here in the comments you have allready replied to a question about the Error while installing/updating. The fix was to go to global settings and disable Output SteamCMD... I did this and it helped but two warings popped up. One of them told me that server backups are disabled now. I am not sure but a backup of the server would be quite nice tho. Maybe you know sth about it. Maybe it isnt really a problem?
You should still get the normal back up that happens and renames to a .bak. I think that the error message you are getting is for the ASM routine. I've only ever had one issue that needed to be rolled back in the last year or so, but I do a manual copy of the save folder every so often just to be on the safe side.
Hey! Great tutorial! But sadly I have an issue :( I set up everything yesterday following ALL instructions properly and it worked fine, my friend could join we played for about a couple of hours. As I did not want my cpu to run all day all night, I switched it off in the evening. Today, after restart (and ASM upgrade/Verify) I can join my server, it is visible for me in ARK LAN list, but my friend cannot join! He can't see my server. He put it into steam's view -> server -> favorites list, but it shows 'not responding'. :( Port forwarding is okay, both TCP and UDP. The only thing that is strange is that ASM availability shows 'waiting for publication' for over an hour now. But (I'm not sure but) I think it was also the case yesterday when it worked. Any ideas pls? *.* Thanks in advance!

this awesome thx, i have a question tho ive watched the whole series but is there a way to get aberation dinos to replace the current counterparts like i changed the stego spawn to be aberrant one and it doesnt seem to have worked i use cross aberration mod but it doesnt give the cool glowy skins
You should be able to do it in the Dino Settings area. there is a large section/chart before the "Per Lever Stats" that has the replace function built in. Just use the replace with drop down and select the aberrant version.
i have done that and now theres no trikes, stegos or the ever so rare sheep just wandering if ive done something wrong cause ive done the dino wipe and now theres just petras and raptor birds everywhere
o i missed the save in the replacing area, completely skimmed over that but ok so do you save copy to clipboard then paste the changes or are they applied automatically after just hitting save?
Hey there Twitchy, So I have been trying so hard to get my server to work. It works fine for LAN and I can play on it just fine. However the server is not showing up for public for others to join. I have put the correct ports for forwarding but still nothing. I use Ark Server Searcher and nothing. I have tried registering my server but it's not showing up to even register. Pls help
I'm sure you have already done this, but double check that you have forwarded the ports using both UDP and TCP. If your router does not have a both option you will need to make a total of 4 forwarding rules. So 2 for your game port and 2 for your query port.

I set up my ark server and everything was working fine. While i was playing the server crashed and now i cant join my server but my friends can. My ports are forwarded and open any ideas?
hmmm... Can you still see it in the server list? Is it just timing out, or are you getting an error? If you are just timing out, you may want to verify you games local cache through Steam. Not sure why but I have had 3 files fail verification every so often which keep me from connecting to servers.
i have updated it and still nothing, when I viewed the integrity of the files it said 3 files failed to validate and will be reacquired, and then it does not download anything.
It should change pretty quickly, mine is almost automatic. I have heard from others that it may take up to 15 minutes... but I personally haven't seen it. May want to give it some time then if it does not change double check your port forwarding.
I set up the server, it says it ran fine and the Availability is working or what ever the good one is, but I cant find it, is my port forwarding wrong?
I did stuff with my firewall, port forwarded and made a static IP, Now it says the availability is Available. I can connect through LAN but not through the IP
hmmm I know it takes quite a while for an ARK server to start up so you may not be waiting long enough... also may want to click the update/verify button in ASM.
yo I have a problem with the setup etc. So I installed the manager, then I did all the settings things etc. Now I forwarded the ports and I made a static ip adress for my router. But... the server doesn't show up in the game? ;-; bruh
If you are using ASM there are options under the HUD and Visuals section for allowing Player Gamma settings in both PVE and PVP. If you are not using ASM you would need to edit your GameUserSettings.ini file with one of these EnablePVPGamma=True DisablePvEGamma=False depending if you are making a PVE or a PVP server.
How can i test my port forwarding? I've had the server up for about an hour now and haven't been able to find it on either server list sites. Its in my LAN but I'm not sure if my port forwarding is working, i went to a couple websites to check and both sites said i have a different IP. So i tried changing the IP in the port forwarding to match what the port forwarding site said it was and i got an error stating "Server IP addr is not in valid range !"
The IP in port forwarding is always your server's IP. So, lets say that your using a Linksys router... your internal IP range would start at 192.168.1.1. So for the sake of argument lets say you decided to give your server a static IP address of 192.168.1.20. If that would be the case then you would access your router and forward port 7777 and 27015 to 192.168.1.20. Now this is different than your public facing IP address. So lets say that your public IP address is 189.255.15.445 in this case your friends could add that address to their steam favorites list with the game port (189.255.15.445:7777). When they try to connect, your router will then forward that request to 192.168.1.20 using port 7777. Hopefully that clears things up a bit instead of making it worse...
Thanks for replying back so quickly, and yes that does clear it up a bit... So if the server is still only in my LAN they have to wait until its up on the unofficial server list to join, right?
You can give your friends your public IP and the game port. They can add that to their favorites in Steam and connect even if it hasn't populated in the unofficial list. The server section is under view at the top of the Steam client.
Are you on the same computer you play on, or a different server? Have you restarted the server so the config files are applied? Try shutting the server down, restarting ASM as administrator, saving the settings and restarting the server. Check Steams View tab for servers in LAN. If it shows up in Steams Servers check to make sure that the ingame server listings map and play mode match your server. Also make sure your client and server are updated to the same version.
if it shows up in steam servers, you should just be able to use the favorites filter in game. Should be bottom left if I remember correctly... it will say official servers and have a drop down that you can choose favorites from.

This video is a lot clearer than most I've seen about this subject, but I wish you wouldn't assume that people have done servers before. This is my first time attempting this, and yours is just one of many videos and pages I've seen or read. But I wish someone would give the info as if someone was doing this for the first time, because that's why I've had to look for so much info, everyone assumes you know how and why you do many things.

Not sure what to tell you, I I stopped running servers for this years before the epic version released. I do not have the Epic version to test so I cannot be much help with it.
Thanks heaps for the tutorials mate, really helped me out, and worked perfectly first time thanks to your tips (watched most of the vids). Took afew hours to get it set up the way I wanted (still some tweaking to do after testing it in game), and the vid on extinction core really helped out too, had me baffled why it wouldn't download. And it took a bit but it appeared in the unofficial server list, so now I can play with mates without the stupid host tether Appreciate the effort you put in, you earned a sub :)

TBH I have not attempted this in Windows 10 or 2016 Server, so I cannot give you an answer. Hopefully someone here will be able to shed some light on this for you.

Setting up three servers on a cluster for each of the maps using ASM. Got pretty much everything sorted, but just need to clarify a few settings. The first being the Dino Spawn Amounts currently as an example ASM has DinoSpawnWeightMultipliers=(DinoNameTag="Therizinosaurus",OverrideSpawnLimitPercentage=True,SpawnLimitPercentage=1.0,SpawnWeightMultiplier=1.0) for the Therizinos, and pretty much the same limit and weight for every other dino and creature. Which values do I need to change to reduce how many spawn on my maps and which values do I change to increase how many spawn on my maps? Because looking at different guides and posts I see conflicting info.
Then in the Structures setting of the program there is an option for "Allow Structures at Supply Drops" but then the tooltip when you hover over it says "If enabled will prevent placing structures at supply drop locations." which is a contradiction, so which is it? Does it allow structures or disable them? I want to disable structures at supply drops, beacons, obelisks so players can use them to transfer between my three servers.
The Dino Spawn overrides are a bit tricky... If you want less, lower both numbers. For example lets say I add the Therizinosaurus to spawn at Carno Island/Monster Island. If I enter 1 and 1 for the weight and percentage... they will overtake the island. But if I enter .001 and .001 then the spawn at a decent rate. It seems like each spawn area is a little different though...
As far as the structures setting is concerned, I normally leave it as its default setting which allows me to build at Obelisks and Supply drop areas.

My friends were not able to join the server and I cant tell if I did something wrong but I must have.
I followed everything stated but I'm having an issue that my server doesn't even show up in the Ark Lan server list but I can see it in steam view server list (under LAN). All ports are forwarded and I was able to play on the server by joining the server on steam server view list but ( a day later) I can't join.

I followed your tutorial a couple months back and everything had been operating very smoothly until one day I couldn't open ASM. I am only able to open the program within the first few seconds of my computer being on now and the program stops working and shuts down before I can do anything. I deleted the program and my ASM folder and tried starting fresh following your tutorial again but I am still not able to open the program. Any advice?
hmmm.... not sure, the only thing I can think of would be .net framework my have corrupted or something. May want to try reinstalling .net.
Just wondering what kind of hardware you would need for 3-4 maps?, I want to host a sever for my friends so there would be about 20 people max across the 3-4 maps.

I hosted 3 servers for 10 people and each took about 8GB of RAM. Now that was several years ago before the newer map releases so not really sure how that has effected things.

it looks like there should be a setting for it maybe... but I am not sure if they have added it or not.
Successfully have a server for myself cause singleplayer has alot of bugs cave dinos, resource spawning etc... Now... How did you make it use only 1 core? i dont need all cores on a server with just me... Or does it auto utilize them?
Think it is auto unless you use the -USEALLAVAILABLECORES startup command.

What i find hard to find is where the option is where it say how many dino's spawn, because for some reason in my server there are not that many dino's. so where can i find that.
Me and my friend are trying to play this game from epic games, I downloaded the server manager, port fowarded everything, disabled windows firewall, even disabled my router firewall. I also added the -crossplay command to server launch settings to finally get the server to even show up in the server browser inside the game. Now the problem is that I and only I can join the server I set up but my friend gets connection timed out every time he tries to join. I can join the server I made but he can't. We did everything backwards, him running the server and he can join but I can not. Where the hell is the problem in this?
I even tried to DMZ host on my PC to open all ports

Help i did everything that was said and it worked i even did mods on your other tutorial . I loaded the server before i went to bed closed it and woke up and tryed to load it and its giving me a fatal error
It gave me option to shutdown server ,immediately , Or let it do it on its own in giving time

i have a question... i used this tool also to create five server... but i have a problem that only one Server is showing up in the LAN Enviroment... Not need to puplish this to the internet i will only play in lan... But only one of the five server on the second PC is visible. I had used other Ports to every server. Any Idea who my Problem is?

Is it possible to run the server from the same computer you are playing on or should it be a different machine?
I ran the test server on the same computer, but it pushes it hard with only one person connected to it. It is best to use a different computer. Depending how many people you want connected it doesn't have to be a super computer or anything. I have an old AMD quad core with 8Gb RAM and hosted 5 people without an issue.
However, if you want to add a lot of mods, change to a modded map, or host for a lot of people.. you may need a computer with more resources. Also internet upload speed is important if you are having friends join you.

hey, seemed to get it working so that me and my brother can see it on lan, but we cant get it to unofficial, i think the problem is my ip but im not really sure which to use while port forwarding, we used the 192 one, we werent supposed to use our public id right? tried checking that website and our server didnt show up there either. ill try to restart it maybe it needs a reboot or something
Yes you use the local servers IP address and not the public for the port forwarding. You have to forward the server port and query port (default is 7777 and 27015 i believe) and it has to be done for UDP and TCP if your router does not have a both option you would need 4 separate entries. Also the unofficial list will take some time to populate and is a bit moody. So if you want to invite your friends from outside your LAN give then your public ip and the query port for them to add into their Steam favorites.

As far as I am aware that is possible, but it would take a rather powerful machine, especially if you are having friends join you.

ASM will do the Window's firewall, but you have to manually do port forwarding in your router.
This video may be old, but I have a question. I've been trying to add me and my friend as an admin, did everything that was done in the video, yet it says under 'Steam Name' if I put mine and their ID in. Am I doing something wrong? Or are we still going to be admins even though our Steam name isn't showing in the ASM?
you may have gotten the wrong steam64 id. I would start by double checking that.
Your profile may also need to be set to “public.” If it is private, it may not show.
I have a problem : when I start the serv I saw on the command "SteamSocketsOpenSource : gethostname failed ()" and "gethostbyname failed"

I considered a few different options along the way... I record on a Windows 7 machine which already had Virtual Box installed, so it was just convenient more than anything else.

I feel ya. I would recommend trying it out. also. if you upgrade to windows 10 it has Hyper-V Built into it as well. It's pretty quality IMHO, coming from a Sys and network admin. I agree, Hyper-V is a good one. I use it at work and it gets the job done. Not sure if you have ever played with vSphere or not, but it actually bench marked better for me when I was doing testing. Its free for up to 2 processors.

Okay, I need to ask a few questions before I can help:
1) Are you running the server on the same computer as you are playing on?
2) When you say the game will not launch do you mean the game will not start up at all, or do you mean that you are trying to join through the Steam server list and it fails?
3) Are you getting an error when the game does not launch?

Do you know if you can make a cluster from servers you have through the Microsoft store? I have my own server but its not through steam. I would like to know if there is a way to link two servers I have?
The cluster has to share a folder.. basically the player profile moves to that shared folder, then moves to the next server... so I don't think you would have much luck with it. Possibly if you could make a share, map it as a drive on both servers.... and vpn into the share....but I am guessing you would have some pretty bad time out problems...

So it seems like I can easily join the game and play it fine, but for some reason the ARK Server Manager keeps saying that it's waiting for the the server to go public (and it's been like this for almost an hour now), so me and my friend can't play online together.
This is my first time doing anything like this so it's possible that something is wrong, but idk what. Do you know what could be causing this
Double check your port forwarding. Make sure the server and query ports are forwarded to your server's IP address for both UDP and TCP. If your router has a "both option" you will have 2 separate entries. If not, then you will have 4 entries. Give your friend your public IP address and the query port. Have them add that information in to their favorites using View Servers.
Ahh, ok. I had an extra 0 on my IP address in the portforwarding. Hopefully that fixes it. It says that the server is available now.

Okay so I'm using an Arris TG852 and I've filled out everything, the Virtual Server, and the Server Trigger with TCP and UDP, and I used the default 7777 and 27015. Yet for some reason it still says that my ports are not forwarded, and the server will not show up on the Unofficial page. I've tried MULTIPLE things yet my ports will not open? I'm just wondering what could possibly be the problem? I have a Dynamic IP as well, which I know will cause problems. However, the IP stays for a few days which should mean that when I put all the information into my network the server, and ports should say open for at least as long as the IP is the same correct? I've seen people have Dynamic IP's and still have the ports be open, but once the IP is changed the ports close again. I'm wondering why mine wont even say that its open?

No, this is my first time trying to port forward anything. But I called my internet provider and figured out that i was doing everything correctly when port forwarding.
However, I went ahead and downloaded the software from portforward.com so that i could make sure my ports are forwarded, and make sure that i was after all doing it correctly. I found out that my ports are forwarded after all, but my game still isnt showing up for my friends, and when i use different sites such as yougetmysignal.com to see if my ports are open while the server is running. They all say they're still closed? Am i not putting the correct ports on my router? And what Ports am i supposed to open, besides 7777 and 27015?

If you have the port forwarding set up, try having your friends add the server to their favorites on Steam. You will need to give them your public IP address, and the game port you are using. You can find your public IP by typing "whats my IP" into Google. The will use your Public IP and the game port separated by a ":" (ex. 100.100.100.100:7777) It sometimes takes a while for the server to show up in the list, but this can get them access even if it is not showing up.

im getting an error where i cant change the max xp it will auto set it to 9000000 for dinos and 1798540 for players, i put 300000 for dinos and 150000 for player and it resets to the stats i listed above.
First, make sure your game.ini is not open in a text editor then try using the reset button beside the max xp fields and save. Set to what you want and save again. Open your game.ini to see if the settings stayed. If not, set them in the text editor and save the file and edit it in ASM again and save. Hopefully they stick.
I want to get a computer to host stuff instead of paying for it, bc cluster servers are expensive as hell, what is good for supporting 10 players max for all servers combined (i want to host 5 maps)
oh wow... 5 servers of the same box is going to take a lot of RAM I think each server takes between 4 and 7 GB depending on the map. The Center is a bit of a hog.... you would almost have to look server hardware to handle that much.

To make sure it is accessible through port forwarding have a friend try to connect by adding the servers IP and Game port into their favorites server area in Steam (ex. 100.100.10.100:7777) If they can connect then you know the game port itself is good to go.

Not sure if it will help but I found this in an online knowledge base:

-This error occurs when there is still an update task
running in the background.
-Closing an update window does not end the update process,
it will continue to run in the background until completing.
-If the server was online when the update was run, it will
be started automatically after completing.
-This error will disappear once the background update has
completed and you will see that the service is "Already Up to Date"
in the Steam update window.
-You will also receive an error when trying to delete the
Steamapps folder due to the files being in use from the updater. A force

Idk whats going on now but my friends cant add my server to there favorites through steam and cant join. it says its not responding. I gave them my public ip and the server port and it says not responding. But im in my server and its running fine

Not sure bud, I have ran 3 servers from a quad core in the past and did not change any settings for cores.
@@TwitchyDigitsGaming figured it out, near the bottom of administration there is affinity cpu, 2 processors equals 1 core and u can select and deselect the amount u want
My server works really fine, clusters, ping and everything works so well except one problem, whenever i login back or when i die I'm forced to create a new character and cannot use the character i was progressing with, it dosent let me "spawn in a random location" or anything just forces me to create a whole new character... Any reason for causing this ?
I would try deleting your profile off every server in the cluster and try connecting again. Also just a FYI you have to log back into the server you logged out of when you reconnect every day. Your profile stays on that server until you cross ARK travel then it moves your profile to that server.
@@TwitchyDigitsGaming i don't have any profiles on any other cluster arks it's a brand new server but i just cannot save my character i had a level 70 character yesterday and when i logged back in it was gona and the game forced me to make a level 1 character all over again, i tested this problem by killing the level 1 character and it asks me to make a new one again and again, i never travelled to any other arks and i normally stay in my server continue to testing it until it works perfectly, so far this is the only issue, anymore ideas on how to fix this problem or i did a mistake on the character and world saving files or something ?
@@AnanAdhil2571lamborghini Double check and make sure you are not in Hardcore Mode, If I remember correctly that makes you start over after death.
@@TwitchyDigitsGaming sorry man i was in hardcore mode whole time i was too dumb to realise that lol, and i got a new problem now but i think you can't do anything about it, when the server is starting it gets stuck on "0]PID: 2380" and never goes any further, it's also slowing down my pc by alot, it used to take 13 seconds to boot the server now it wont boot anymore i somehow think this software is creating massive amount of junk files bloating up my system when i check the storage it isn't even half full but the server never starts... Also I'm gonna subscribe to you and turn on the notification bell, thank you so much for replying to me, i was feeling so depressed lol, keep getting problems after problems, just gonna clean up my hard drive and check it but my pc works just fine other than the server stuck on booting forever

If you are using 7777 and 27015 both ports need forwarded for both UDP and TCP packets. Can you see the server on your lan?
Also try giving your friend your public IP followed by the port so they can add it to their steam favorites (ex 100.100.100.100:7777) and see if they can connect using that.
I followed the instructions and believe I did everything correctly. However I cannot find my server on the lists and when I tried to add my sever to my own favorites in steam both the 7777 and the 27015 are both < not responding>. Any ideas? I can see my server above both of ports that are not responding but I think that is because of lan. I have not had a friend try them yet as I didn't think the server would work.
Did you filter the server list to LAN? Also if you are on the LAN and try to add a server to your favorites you would (in most cases) need to use the server's internal IP address, not your public IP. The Public IP is only needed if you are outside of your network.
You must be right about the IP because friends were able to find it even though it still says not responding for me

So I have been playing on a server with my buddy and we were wanting to make a server cluster so we could move from the island to scorched earth. So I did that and now whenever I start the server we have been playing on it's like it is a brand new save. How do I use my old save and place it over the newly made Island save so that I can move between maps?

This might be a very dumb question...
My IP changes every day - ofc. When friends outside my network want to join (port-settings done right ofc) my server, do I have to update my IP every day in the Maneger?
Your Public IP changes everyday? If that is the case, then yes your friends will more than likely need to update the IP address.
Yeees...I think it does. I am talking about my "normal" IP adress, it changes everyday. Its normal that your internet provider changes your IP adress everyday - at least where I live. I can remember that I have run a Minecraft server many years ago with Hamachi (I am pretty sure you know how it works). So you dont have to use your own IP adress for the server itself. Do you think I can run the Ark server with a simulated LAN-network over Hamachi?

Pretty sure Hamachi is a VPN so ya, as long as your friends are set up with VPN access into your LAN then their computer's will think that they are part of your internal network. Just be careful who you let in.

First, this tool is so awesome. I can switch off those "non-dinos" which were released by the Ark-team. Like the monkey, the wolves and so on. I am kinda a rollplayer^^

Now I got another little problem. Here in the comments you have allready replied to a question about the Error while installing/updating. The fix was to go to global settings and disable Output SteamCMD...
I did this and it helped but two warings popped up. One of them told me that server backups are disabled now.
I am not sure but a backup of the server would be quite nice tho.
Maybe you know sth about it. Maybe it isnt really a problem?
You should still get the normal back up that happens and renames to a .bak. I think that the error message you are getting is for the ASM routine. I've only ever had one issue that needed to be rolled back in the last year or so, but I do a manual copy of the save folder every so often just to be on the safe side.

Great tutorial! But sadly I have an issue :( I set up everything yesterday following ALL instructions properly and it worked fine, my friend could join we played for about a couple of hours. As I did not want my cpu to run all day all night, I switched it off in the evening. Today, after restart (and ASM upgrade/Verify) I can join my server, it is visible for me in ARK LAN list, but my friend cannot join!
He can't see my server. He put it into steam's view -> server -> favorites list, but it shows 'not responding'. :( Port forwarding is okay, both TCP and UDP. The only thing that is strange is that ASM availability shows 'waiting for publication' for over an hour now. But (I'm not sure but) I think it was also the case yesterday when it worked.
Any ideas pls? *.* Thanks in advance!
double check your public IP address. Some ISPs use dynamic IP addresses so they change from time to time.

this awesome thx, i have a question tho ive watched the whole series but is there a way to get aberation dinos to replace the current counterparts like i changed the stego spawn to be aberrant one and it doesnt seem to have worked i use cross aberration mod but it doesnt give the cool glowy skins
You should be able to do it in the Dino Settings area. there is a large section/chart before the "Per Lever Stats" that has the replace function built in. Just use the replace with drop down and select the aberrant version.
i have done that and now theres no trikes, stegos or the ever so rare sheep just wandering if ive done something wrong cause ive done the dino wipe and now theres just petras and raptor birds everywhere
Did you shut down the server, click the blue save button above the dino replacing area, then save in ASM, restart the server, and then dino wipe?
o i missed the save in the replacing area, completely skimmed over that but ok so do you save copy to clipboard then paste the changes or are they applied automatically after just hitting save?
they should apply when you save, then you will have to save in ASM, then start the server and do the dino wipe.

What is it doing? Timing out when joining? Giving an error? Not showing up on you LAN?

So I have been trying so hard to get my server to work. It works fine for LAN and I can play on it just fine. However the server is not showing up for public for others to join. I have put the correct ports for forwarding but still nothing. I use Ark Server Searcher and nothing. I have tried registering my server but it's not showing up to even register. Pls help
I've also checked my firewall settings and it looks just like it should but still not working
I'm sure you have already done this, but double check that you have forwarded the ports using both UDP and TCP. If your router does not have a both option you will need to make a total of 4 forwarding rules. So 2 for your game port and 2 for your query port.

I set up my ark server and everything was working fine. While i was playing the server crashed and now i cant join my server but my friends can. My ports are forwarded and open any ideas?
hmmm... Can you still see it in the server list? Is it just timing out, or are you getting an error?
If you are just timing out, you may want to verify you games local cache through Steam. Not sure why but I have had 3 files fail verification every so often which keep me from connecting to servers.

When you restarted the server, did update it? If your client is not running the same version as the server, it will not show up in the list.

i have updated it and still nothing, when I viewed the integrity of the files it said 3 files failed to validate and will be reacquired, and then it does not download anything.
When does Availability: Waiting for publication change?
It should change pretty quickly, mine is almost automatic. I have heard from others that it may take up to 15 minutes... but I personally haven't seen it. May want to give it some time then if it does not change double check your port forwarding.

If the server is on you local network, change the filter in ARK to LAN. You should then see it in the server list.
I did stuff with my firewall, port forwarded and made a static IP, Now it says the availability is Available. I can connect through LAN but not through the IP

If the server is on your LAN, then you connect through LAN. Others outside of you LAN would use your public IP to connect in.
when my server loads it wont go past PID: 11684, which goes after ark version.
hmmm I know it takes quite a while for an ARK server to start up so you may not be waiting long enough... also may want to click the update/verify button in ASM.

Add it to your steam favorites and make sure you are filtering to LAN in game.

If you are using ASM there are options under the HUD and Visuals section for allowing Player Gamma settings in both PVE and PVP. If you are not using ASM you would need to edit your GameUserSettings.ini file with one of these EnablePVPGamma=True
DisablePvEGamma=False depending if you are making a PVE or a PVP server.
How can i test my port forwarding? I've had the server up for about an hour now and haven't been able to find it on either server list sites. Its in my LAN but I'm not sure if my port forwarding is working, i went to a couple websites to check and both sites said i have a different IP. So i tried changing the IP in the port forwarding to match what the port forwarding site said it was and i got an error stating "Server IP addr is not in valid range !"
The IP in port forwarding is always your server's IP. So, lets say that your using a Linksys router... your internal IP range would start at 192.168.1.1. So for the sake of argument lets say you decided to give your server a static IP address of 192.168.1.20. If that would be the case then you would access your router and forward port 7777 and 27015 to 192.168.1.20. Now this is different than your public facing IP address. So lets say that your public IP address is 189.255.15.445 in this case your friends could add that address to their steam favorites list with the game port (189.255.15.445:7777). When they try to connect, your router will then forward that request to 192.168.1.20 using port 7777.
Hopefully that clears things up a bit instead of making it worse...

You can give your friends your public IP and the game port. They can add that to their favorites in Steam and connect even if it hasn't populated in the unofficial list. The server section is under view at the top of the Steam client.

I'm guessing OVH is a hosting service? If so, I am guessing they would take care of the port forwarding.

Are you on the same computer you play on, or a different server? Have you restarted the server so the config files are applied? Try shutting the server down, restarting ASM as administrator, saving the settings and restarting the server. Check Steams View tab for servers in LAN. If it shows up in Steams Servers check to make sure that the ingame server listings map and play mode match your server.
Also make sure your client and server are updated to the same version.

if it shows up in steam servers, you should just be able to use the favorites filter in game. Should be bottom left if I remember correctly... it will say official servers and have a drop down that you can choose favorites from.
