SAS a340's are used on long distance routs to Asia and southern America while the A330 are used on shorter long haul flights such as Stockholm-New York.
@vivacoldplay The Airbus 340-600 is longer than a B747.. It is the longest passenger aircraft in the world.. But i think the new boeing 747-8 is about to set the length record :)
@vivacoldplay No its not.If it was underpowered as you say,it wouldnt have been certified for commersial traffic.. simple as that.Yes its a poor climber compare to 747 and 777,but every plane on long haul flights is so heavy it cant do it better.. The A340-300 takes off from Princess Juliana on direct flight to France with fuel for the whole flight and fully loaded with cargo/passengers.Thats a 7700ft long runway. A flight that takes 9-11 hours depending on wind/weather. Not underpowered at all.
@OriolusOriole Yes i agree, It looks like a freak! But if a company only extend a older model and put just a few newer feauters. and label it a new product, what did you expect..
@ollo1982 What airline have you been flying with? I have been flying with SAS tons of times and i never EVER have had bad service, they are all allways smiling and helpful and let me have a great time. While onboard.
@vivacoldplay Required runway at MTOW(396 tons) 10,466 ft (3,190 m) 10,893 ft (3,320 m) 9,902 ft (3,018 m) ER: 10,138 ft (3,090 m) 10,138 ft (3,090 m) For 747. Engines Produces PW 63,300 lbf (282 kN) GE 62,100 lbf (276 kN)RR 59,500/60,600 lbf (265/270 kN) Take off run at MTOW (276 tons) 2,990 metres (9,810 ft)3,000 metres (9,800 ft) For A340-2/300. Engines produces 31,000-34,000 lbf.. Its not underpowered.
@kbalasse i even pushed the button with a glass of water and they came very fast to ask if i did push the button, and they asked me if i wanted water, i am stunned of how good service sas can produce even with their red numbers on the buttomline, combine them with thai or singapore and they might be the best airline in the world
@vivacoldplay Yes exactly... and you can see the lbf?? Much bigger you said?? and only 29000lbf more than a340-300 on the 747...thats pr engine... A340-5/600 pr engine = 248-260 kilonewtons (56,000-58,000 lbf) 260-275 kilonewtons (58,000-62,000 lbf) MTOW is 372,000 kilograms (820,000 lb) HGW: 380,000 kilograms (840,000 lb) 368,000 kilograms (810,000 lb) HGW: 380,000 kilograms (840,000 lb) T/O Roll at MTOW 3,050 metres (10,010 ft) 3,100 metres (10,200 ft)
@ollo1982 The MD-11 is approximately the same size as the A340-300, but it has up to 150% the power of the A340 (MD-11 has 186000lbs of thrust) and a higher cruise speed, yet it still has about the same range as the A340-300? Does it carry more fuel or is it efficient as the A340-300 during flight?
@vivacoldplay Yes... it has 186000 and the A340-300 have 136000... But look at the takeoff roll at MTOW?? A340-300 have a shorter run than MD11... If it was underpowered as you say, they would have changed the engines to more powerful after some buildt A340-300... because it would have been certified for commersial traffic if it was underpowered...
@vivacoldplay On route from Narita to Kastrup that A340-300 flyes almost 5000 nautical miles. On takeoff it burns a good amount of fuel due to extreme rpm from the engines. my guess is that it carryes at least 70 tons of fuel on take off, have over 200 passengers= 15 tons, and a good amount of cargo. making the plane weigh good over 200 tons. OFCOURSE IT IS A LONG TAKEOFF ROLE!!! A340-300 would NOT have been certified if it was underpowered.
@MRFREAK177 On the last flight i was with SAS was from Frankfurt to Gardermoen. Service was not the best.. Service on Lufthansa was a HUGE class higher... Who charge almost 5 Euros for a sandwich?? yea,SAS do... and 3 freakin euros for a can of coca cola... thats ripoff! and 2 euros for a coffey... Most likely otherwise on long haul flights tho.. idk...
@unggrabb SAS is a good company, but its far from good to fantastic.. they have a bad service.. taking paid for the food and drinks aboard.. bad flight attendants thats not very service minded.. But they have great pilots, that makes the takeoffs, cruise and landings pretty smooth...
Unfortunately SAS is not that great airline it used to be, not my favourite anymore :( There are reasons why SAS gets 3 stars while Finnair gets 4, ranked by the global Skytrax.
SAS is a very weird company. The things other Company can get profit, SAS cant profit on. their has to be something wrong whit the company management at SAS.. one example, They couldn´t get a profit on the B747?? BritishAirways and other companies can..
SAS is in general among the worst airlines in the world. I'd rather fly Aeroflot, at least they got a brand new A330 fleet. Next time, fly with Finnair!
SAS is one of the best airlines in the world!!!
I like the sound of the engines!
SAS is the best! I flew with them a month ago from Beijing with the Aribsu 340, and its in my top 3 airliners! Also in top three 737-600 and CRJ-900!
SAS a340's are used on long distance routs to Asia and southern America while the A330 are used on shorter long haul flights such as Stockholm-New York.
Nice vid, nice plane, nice sound, very nice airline!
the a340 is so underpowered its terrifying
I like the colour scheme on SAS aircraft
Best Airline in Scandinavia
I love SAS!!!

@starbreez3 those things are heavy and it seems like the engines are as use full has hair dryers

@ollo1982 sorry but a 747-400 is MUCH bigger than an a340 so idk why you are comparing them
SAS on suttu!

Also biggest
@vivacoldplay what do you meaaan :(?
I'm sure Thai is better than SAS but also better than many other airlines!!
SAS
Why?
Umm... alot of airbus and boeing planes use basically the same engines...
@unggrabb SAS is a good company, but its far from good to fantastic.. they have a bad service.. taking paid for the food and drinks aboard.. bad flight attendants thats not very service minded.. But they have great pilots, that makes the takeoffs, cruise and landings pretty smooth...
Finnair is :)
wthr its airbus or boeing the engine sound comes from RR or CFM power plants..the airframer has nthng to do with its sound,,
Unfortunately SAS is not that great airline it used to be, not my favourite anymore :( There are reasons why SAS gets 3 stars while Finnair gets 4, ranked by the global Skytrax.
