- Earlier this year, a show that consists of 99% swearing and 1% plot was released. Lots of people like it for some reason. I don't like it. Let's talk about why I don't like it.

Please enlighten me on how this is good but Velma is bad.

The main difference is that "Velma" is a spinoff/remake of an existing franchise whereas "Hazbin Hotel" is its own show.
@NickNui It's hardly the first one. Western media makes franchises that depict religion in a questionable light all the time. I imagine other cultures also do that to their own religions. "Velma" just took a children's franchise and made a bunch of changes to make it seem more adult, and usually, when children's franchises get rebooted, they stay children's franchises.

IF it was its own show it wouldn't have been based off a book made by someone discoverying magical mushrooms in the early B.C. Period.

she probably believed herself a sinner after letting one go and her being hurt was heaven disowning her but thats a big maybe, honestly vaggie hasn't been shown to be a particularly smart character and other characters have called her out for not being very observant or her inability to think beyond whats infront of her i mean shit she could have changed her name when she met Charlie instead of just how they say it she could have just killed lute she never saw alistar leave the lobby or if she did she never considered he would go talk to Charlie in her vulnerable state all these writing choices are centered around her so i think she's just honestly not ment to be a particularly smart character
Even as a massive fan of the show I will not deny the plot holes I counted 17 throughout the entire show on my first watch
Part of me wishes Hazbin were an episodic show about the hotel getting new sinners and redeeming them

I remember being really excited for Hazbin Hotel for nearly four years, but then my interest in it collapsed by the time the first trailer came out in late 2023.
Now after reading and hearing about what actually happened in the show, I'm quite relieved I'm no longer attached to this show. It feels like I dodged an H-bomb. ☢️
I know where you are coming from I was so invested it was crazy then I saw the pilot and it was god awful. Hell of a boss was better…. In the beginning first episode but Viv can’t stay focused to save her life on one plot idea.
You missed one more issue with the design and while i like this show its weird that almost every male has the most extreme v-taper

Hazbin Hotel, if not for the poor pacing due to the 8 episode limit, would've been a hit in the 2000s... When cartoons being edgy, gorey and adult was still shocking, fresh and new.
The difference between Hazbin Hotel and other shows like Velma or fairview is that it came from a niche indie community and had actual artistic talent and heart put into it, unlike those other garbage corporate shows.
Yes hazbin hotel isn't for everyone and I admit it has a lot of flaws but comparing it to corporate garbage cartoons is insulting tbh
I'm not gonna worship Vivziepop but I've been interested in her work for almost 8 years now and I'm gonna tell you now, the amount of work and creativity she put into creating all those characters in Hazbin Hotel is impressive. Yes, admittedly, the final show that came out is very messy and clunky, that's probably because Vivzie tried to stuff ALL her characters and ALL the lore that she has been working on for 10+ years into 8 episodes. And from my understanding she's never worked in the actual animation industry before that, so she (and her team) had no writing experience. I think for what it is, hazbin hotel is still a very unique show. It gives off that tumblr-esque 2016 niche art community vibe and I completely understand that it's not for everyone.
I'm glad you understand why I hate your overrated trash tumblr show.

The difference is that hazbin hotel at least tried, the other shows are just lifeless corporate trash with no effort
I feel like half of the people saying Hazbin Hotel is the future of adult animation are either kids, or very young college students.
Hazbin hotel, I've seen it, I like some of the music but ultimately it's a C+ maybe B- of a series. The main issue with it is pacing. for a series that is trying to tell a story, it doesn't slow the pace down. It also doesn't focus on the main idea which is having a hotel that can rehabilitate sinners so they can get to heaven. They DON'T show or explain why they would want to go to heaven, besides it being clean. They DON'T(So far) try to rehabilitate truly evil people. They show heaven as rich snobs that don't understand anything. The first man Adam shouldn't be in heaven as his personality and enjoyment of killing sinners wouldn't nor should be acceptable for an angel. They make Lucifer a caring father instead of a powerful leader, they show him as powerful at the end but there was no build up so it felt flat. They try to introduce character after character without solidifying their core cast.
Hazbin has issues, pacing is the main one though.

None of them feel strong, character wise, while they are strong. Hell, even Adam doesn't feel powerful, he seems to crumble under those above him, he should be more of a strong toxic character, but he's not, he's just a dumbass. I thought he'd be like Handsome Jack from Borderlands 2 but he doesn't have that threatening aura like him.

While I do disagree with you saying it is one of the worst cartoons of all time, I have to say that the pilot was somehow better than the actual show.
The pilot was better because Ken and Dave did most of the writing for it. Since they're no longer associated, it's pretty much just stuck with Viv's extremely low par writing skills.

The entire premise of Hazbin Hotel falls apart when someone like Judge Holden or Freddy Krueger is in hell

What potential the pilot some how got views and likes and subs while the series is even better then the pilot because it’s being carried by the songs hazbin hotel was never good it was just getting carried by its songs and the pilot and the series is literally the same show that your watching so if you like the pilot more then the series well that’s cap because you like both equally cause it’s literally the same. And potential they seem to be spreading there potential and they have a fan base and their making money because there being carried by the songs which people like and I can tell because I actually like some of the songs are got damn wonderful but the story is kinda ass

The pilot was not better. Looking back at the pilot, it’s terrible! I’d rather sit through an episode of SML than that. The metal family pilot was way better than Hazbin’s pilot.

There was a huge amount of potential in this show, seeing how badly it tanked is tragic. Also its creator is notorious for mistreating her employees, getting mad at any criticism of the show (instead of learning from her mistakes) and stealing things from other artists...just a crappy person in general. Kinda cultish.
The show didn't tank in any sense of the word. It received good reviews and became Amazon Prime's most watched shows.
Just because something is popular doesn't mean it's good. Hopefully the second season will be HH's last one so that it can wallow in the abyss of obscurity. No one is going to remember this awful show, not in a good way. So it's popular on Amazon, so what? No other streaming service wanted it. It's July, this show came out in January and no one is talking about it. It's popular and received well? Then why did Viv jokingly (in poor taste) tell people to go rewatch the show? It can't be because ratings have dropped... SURELY it can't be because of that, since it's so successful 🥴 once that new Batman series drops in August people are going to ask "Hazbin what? Who?" Try having a fanbase for 40 years that has a networth of billions of dollars, Transformers. Try being revolutionary with animation, Disney. Try having critically acclaimed success on your first try at media/entertainment, Get Out, Stardew Valley. People are on TH-cam working on projects ALONE and it looks ten times better than HH. When you know better, you do better and sadly the creator is fine with her mediocrity. Didn't she even go to school for animation???

In small doses it can be good,but repeated over and over again it gets annoying and somehow tiring as well.

In my honest opinion about this show is that I think the reason they like the show it’s because of the art style it self and the character designs is the reason and same goes to the songs too not gonna lie I wish they still kept the old Charlie design but after watching the show with her new design I was used to it I thought the songs were good but the two problems I have with it is that the show goes super fast pest for the story and that there’s not many plus-size or other body shaped characters in this I hope for season two gets better but if not it’s the shows downfall for not doing so well for the story

I’m a fan, but I can see how both the show and the fandom can make people hate it.
Another problem I have with the characters is ... they are supposed to be based off different animals and I don't see it. I don't see ANY of the animals they are based on. Like Angel Dust is supposed to be a spider. Two arms does not a spider make. A LOT of insect designs can have two arms. I own jumping spiders and tarantulas. I love spiders. I adore bugs. A good bug design? Bugs Life. Muffet from Undertale and most of all Beetle from Kubo and the two strings. Also their designs say NOTHING about their character. They could look like anything and it wouldn't take away from them or their stories. I have seen people online give them better designs and it ADDS more to the character.
A good example of animal archetypes is Don Bluth. His characters. The characters in An American Tail AND Nihm are mice for a reason. It's an allegory to show the struggles of people coming into a new country or how humans AFFECT animals in Nihm. Their designs play INTO their characters AND the plot. These do not. None of them do. The character designs are hollow and empty to me. They could be interchangeable and that's an issue especially when there are so MANY I had to keep track of.
I had no idea Alastor was supposed to be based on a deer until someone pointed it out. He looked more like a fox to me and foxes are usually depicted as tricksters so it made sense. I thought Vaggie was based on an owl and not a moth because she's supposed to be the "wise" one compared to her girlfriend. And I remember hearing Charlie is supposed to be a goat? I thought she was a dog girl without the ears and tail. She has the little dog nose and it fits her personality better.

Fun fact Warning spoiler:Alan Becker did it better than Vivienne Medrano
The stick figures have different colors which make them stand out.The story didn't feel rushed,the stick get their own screentime.
The Villains are just perfect The dark lord motives are complex and interesting plus they explained his origin for those that didn't watch his original animator vs stickman video
As for King Orange we didn't get to know about him until the end which is a perfect because his backstory doesn't feel rushed,he was a perfect sympathetic villain he was once a normal person who had a son and he lost his son to Minecraft and he was determined to get him back to the point where he was selfish and neglectful but as time goes on he realized what he has become and became a good person
Let's talk about the difference between Purple and Charlie
Purple backstory was perfect and understandable because his origin wasn't told and rushed and instead was told and wasn't rushed I won't spoil the rest but Charlie origin was just told and rushed and yet we get to see Lucifer visit Charlie, wanted to help Charlie with the hotel and told Charlie the truth about sinners that is not a bad father
As for Alan Becker characters they are just perfect because they don't just tell you they show you unlike VivienneMedrano so yeah Alan Becker did a much better than Vivienne Medrano

Another cool thing is no one talks but it does have awesome body language without dialogue, even those characters have more characters than a bunch of annoying demons that talk too much.
AVA and AVM truly are the best indie shows.
It's not perfect, but Hazbin is not even in the top 200 worst cartoons ever made

It's weird how i like the show but i have no desire to defend it at all in fact i welcome criticism towards this franchise and i do believe it has it's issue rather the pacing feels rushed and character arcs just feels unsatisfying or unearned Like lucifer and charlies relationship or sir pentuous and angels "redemption".The plot holes with its premise and the pilot doesn't help either
I think it's mostly an issue with the 8 episode limit.
I think the show could have VERY MUCH... Like... VERY FUCKING MUCH benefitted from either hour long episodes or a 12 episode runtime.
@@remmy3571 I think they could have made it work with the episodes they had if they had split them into two separate arcs. The first half would be dedicated to getting to know the people in the hotel and the second could explore Heaven and the exterminations.

I LOVE Hazbin Hotel and I LOVE All Dogs Go To Heaven they both have something in common something to do with Heaven and Hell and they both have a main protagonist named Charlie too and they are both Golden Masterpieces and I'm excited for Hazbin Hotel All Dogs Go To Heaven is my first time I knew about Heaven and Hell.

HHs main character is more likable then Velma. I didnt liked when Angel just sang right after all of the things hes been throw, u were right about colours but its hell, maybe have like dark red, light red, white, mixed in some places something like that, but as it is the colour thing didnt matter, i didnt noticed, also it was some what funny deppending what episode (not episode 4 mostly), but i liked more relationship between two main characters Charlie and Maggie they were sweet, and Angels struggles.

I genuinely cannot go one second without hearing these characters saying a cuss word. There are more bad things to talk about but just because its a show for adults doesn’t mean you gotta throw around f, a, and s bombs every FIVE SECONDS. This critique is only the beginning though, I genuinely despise this and I wish more online concepts would be noticed, but whatever, thats my opinion.

It's not that it's funny. It's not even used as a joke in Hazbin. It's just a thing that (some - most, really) of the characters do. But they use different obscenities and with different frequency. It's a method of giving them distinct voices.
For instance, Alastor rarely swears. Charlie only swears when surprised. Angel Dust and Husk casually swear. Vaggie swears when she's angry (and sometimes in Spanish).

vaggies name was supposed to be a play on word for vagina actually but that doesnt excuse it for being a bad name. Also spoiler alert helluva boss is just as bad if not worse than HH and i dont think its really worth being covered if im being honest, they're both literally the same show but with different characters, characters who are just as annoying as the HH characters,

I think the main difference to me is that while Velma was very much made out of spite and the writing oozes with hate for the audience and original story, with Hazbin it's obvious, that it was made with passion/love (in one way or another)
Does that mean that Hazbin is 100% amazing? No.

The music is fantastic, the characters individually are unique, well designed and fun to watch and the plot is... Eh. It doesn't reinvent the wheel but it's an interesting premise.
The voice acting is phenomenal.
This the first real internet phenomenon to be picked up and turned into a series of this caliber so for what it is, I think it's pretty good.
My biggest gripe with the show is how hard it plays into the "Ha-Ha funny vulgar Disney princess" bit. We get it. It's a show with more mature themes. They just kinda beat the dead horse a little.
Also, the very clear LGBTQ pandering. I'm all for diverse characters but it's quite annoying when sexual orientation is such a critical plot point for so many characters.
Overall, I'd give it a 6.5/10. It was a fun watch and a lot of the music has found it's way into my playlist. I think Helluva Boss was better, to be honest.

None of the voice actors from the 2019 Pilot returned for the full show. They were all fired/recast by Vivziepop in a mass email.
Not only the voice actors but most of the team that assisted in the Pilot, especially in the writing...
So yeah, that pretty much sums up how Vivzie not only screwed up the people who worked on the pilot, but also screwed the show itself. (Again, the Pilot is pretty overrated and mid in my opinion, but at least it made far more sense and was somewhat more enjoyable than the actual show)

@@DPD1 It was not a union issue. This was proven over and over again. Some of the voice actors were more than willing to get in if it meant keeping the roles (Michael Kovach).

I didnt know what to take from hazbin at first, but then i realised something, it goes so fast you dont feel like anything happened. i tried to rewatch it 2 or 3 times but got bored by the end of ep 1 because everything went by too quickly. theres so much most will forget alot of details a few eps in, as well the pilot and show feel quite diffrent in concept, like if you watched the pilot then show youd still being missing quite a chunk of details going in, how would someone watching the pilot know heaven works and would get involved for example. i know it all doesnt need answers for everything, but this isnt a small detail its bassically what everything connects to. it feels like vivian woke one day, came up with the idea of heaven, then went "fuck it may aswell shove this idea i came with into it to the point where it may just be as important as the fuckin hotel itself even tho the show i had a first was relient on redemption at the hotel." This a prime example to me of why good music and animation isnt enough

But even some of the people I do associate with call it garbage as well.
Several of his criticisms are just lies. Like the claim that the only jokes are swearing. There are maybe one or two times that swearing is used as a joke, and the joke is that a character who DOESN'T usually swear finally does.

I dunno. I think it’s fine. Not great, and the number of episodes it was given means they definitely had to rush the pacing at points, but I definitely don’t think it’s anywhere near bad.

They could have worked out the pacing problem with the number of episodes they had if they had split them into two separate arcs. The first half would be dedicated to introducing the hotel, and the second would focus on Heaven.

Its been renewed for at least four seasons. So wuality in storytelling does not really matter. As long as you're hyper, have cool looking characters, are immatutely written, and have enough of a string niche fambase, and have lots of lore for fans to fill in the creative and storytelling gaps the show has, you don't need to be good. You just have to be attention grabbing.

Just as you critisize Hazbin for inappropriate use of swear words, id like to critisize you for doing kinda the same thing. Throughout the 40 minute long video all you did actually say is:
1. I hate the show very very very very... very... much
2. The autor is inseperable if their work is garbage
3. Velma is better then this (check thesis 1)
4. This is no better then the other pieces of crap we've covered. (check thesis 1)
5. Color pallet makes characters indistinguishable
6. Character design is repetative and soulless

I thought the show was enjoyable and a breath of fresh air in terms of animation for adult (They always looked ugly or simplified) and has so much potentials. However, I was disappointed how the show turns out. At least I can enjoy the lore and arts the fandom make out for it.
Speaking of the animation style, it has the opposite problem to pretty much most of the adult shows, it's too detailed and cluttered.
I prefer Lackadaisy pilot, Hazbin Hotel is so overrated.
It feels so half-baked in so many aspects. I get the fanbase is rabid, horny and easily amused by the show - but Vivzie totally dropped the ball when she made so many mistakes with the series. She should've just stuck to doing music-videos, it seems that is all she really wants to do with her shows anyways. Disney and Broadway - but edgy!
It could've been great, but instead this is what was produced.
Lackluster overdesigned samey characters, shitty overly immature 'comedy', nonsensical world-building, hash in some weird drama and add lots of bad pacing. If the voice-actors and musicians hadn't carried this show I don't really think it'd be as popular.
Then fanbase too is doing lots of heavy lifting. IDK, I've seen so many better conceived shows just not get the love this mess does.
I tried wstching the first episode with my brother and all we complained were the designs. Why? Because the plot was thst boring as sin. We stopped midway because it was that boring. Also, I remember that a freaking background character stood out more because tgey had s different body and face.

I feel like we didn't watch the same show.
I go around watching both negative and positive review of this show. And most positive review do actually criticize actual bad things about the show, but when I watch Negative review, it's mainly the same pointless point like "Swearing bad" or "No comedy, just swearing" or "Unfunny" but forget that humor is subjective, the show doesn't expect you to laugh at swear words and harping on swearing is more childish then using swear words in the first place. How can you say with a straight face that the swearing is an issue and then use swears yourself in your review and not realize the swearing is there because genuinely speak like this, proven by yourself and not understand why there's swearing.
I'm so confused by people who think it's the case. Or criticize the colors and I genuinely feel like everyone criticizing the color scheme and art style, people are just outing themselves as color blind without realizing. Criticize the pacing or at least make an attempt at saying the show is full of plot holes (which it's not) what I'm seeing is someone who lacks empathy if you genuinely can't, at the very least understand how someone like this show.
