If I were to be honest here I enjoyed hazbin hotel coming from someone that never watched the pilot (ironic I know) but at the same time I agree with the issue regarding pacing and character motivations. because on one hand Charlie wanting to give folks some sort of redemption seems like a solid concept but the show barley focuses on the hotel and we never see why Charlie is so passionate about this goal along with the whole war with heaven thing like this should've had more build up if anything but it's just revealed that she's killed by some nobody which we barley see like bruh

I very much agree about your point about Charlie in heaven to stop the extermination and then Sera was like 'No one should know about the extermination' Like why are you talking about this in court full of Angels. It could have just been a private meeting with her and Adam (and Lute) 11:53
I just noticed how that plot doesn't really make sense. Even if in the court , lets say Adam wasn't even there, it will still reveal the extermination because of Charlie. Or Adam is just there for the Vaggie Angel reveal i guess.

@@xXFluffersaccording to vivzie, sinners can only truly “die” by angelic weapon, if not they just respawn, the hellborn can’t be hurt by angelic weapons (as brought up by Lute “the only reason you’re still alive is because daddy gave you and your hellborn subjects a pardon from an exorcist blade.”) and angels can’t be hurt at all by anything other than angelic weapons. There are multiple instances where this is completely ignored, especially in the battle scene.
      1. Razzle, one of Charlie’s hellborn dragon pets, is killed by an exorcist blade
      2. Lute gets her arm ripped off after being trapped under some rubble
      3. Adam almost kills Lucifer AND Charlie with an exorcist blade

    • @xXFluffers
      @xXFluffers 4 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

@@Theomorispider I'll respond to these one by one
      1. The idea isn't that hellborn are immune to angelic weapons, it's that heaven agreed to not harm any hellborn in their exterminations. We know that hellborn are in fact very susceptible to angelic weapons because we see them being used by hellborn to kill other hellborn in helluva boss.
      2. This is a valid point, although I think the disbelief can be pretty easily suspended here. To be totally fair, she technically ripped her own arm off, it was trapped under rubble and she pulled until it tore off. I don't think the intention was to portray as angels as actually invincible from an objective standpoint, just that no one in hell knew angels could be hurt, period. It's possible that angels aren't invincible at all, they're just really damn tough.
      3. I don't really understand this point. Adam broke the deal that heaven made with hell. That's the whole point of his attack, he's defying the will of heaven over a personal vendetta.
      4. It's possible that his lazer was powered by some kind of angelic energy. Angelic weapons also take the forms of guns and explosives, so I don't see why an angel laser beam is out of the question.

The "duet" between Carmilla and Vaggie in "Whatever it takes" would have been a great foreshadowing betwen the interaction of both but the uneven Pacing of the story makes their subsequent meeting feel less impactful. The story instead of feeling like a larger cohesive one feels like we do take pitstops to see each of the characters develop, then move on to the next thing. I can understand why the show is popular and let's hope the second part, season (?) does fix those issues.

I wish they didn’t give Alastor an obvious ego that people can sometimes take advantage of and other times can’t. like he negatively reacts to Lucifer calling him an has-been and when he gets told his idea for the hotel name is stupid, which should be extremely trivial for someone with his supposed status and renown. he also gets offended when Carmella doesn’t care where he’s been, which doesn’t really make sense because why would he care what she thinks if he’s so sure of himself? Isn’t his whole persona a smile that “keeps his enemies guessing” and keeps him in control? if he can be so easily hurt by simple digs at his character, then why does anyone fear him? insecurity in villains shouldn’t be shown until like big moments in their arcs, such as at the end where his ego almost got him killed by Adam and he’s understandably freaking out. you show cocky villains at their best before tearing them down to their actual level. he barely did anything this season besides talk about how dangerous he is, and kill a few low level demons before getting destroyed by one guy in arguably his debut fight scene. he’s like King in One Punch Man, someone who has all this credit to their name for killing monsters, when really it’s just an act that people believe which becomes a self fulfilling prophecy whenever his strength is challenged, so I don’t feel like his renown is justified in the slightest

Right, Alastor was done so dirty. He was literally built up to be a dangerous and manipulative character. He talked a big game throughout the season only to get folded minutes later. People are saying it's because he doesn't have his full power but if that's true then it was handled poorly. I don't know any villain (serious villain) who runs his/her mouth and not be able to back it up. Thanos, evaporated half of the universe, Ganondorf, wielder of the triforce of power, Dio, Aizen, Eren. Like, these are heavy hitting villains who can talk the talk and walk the walk. If Alastor knew he wasn't at his full strength then he shouldn't have been running his mouth and getting offended by trivial matters. How is he in control of things when someone could literally say something as small as "you look horrendous in red" and he throws a hissy fit? How was anyone threatened or charmed by him? He's one of the most annoying characters now

My main problem was that Vaggie got revealed to be an Angel at the beginning/middle of the episode, when the song made it look like nothing about that was said at first. It neutralized the impact of the song so much more than probably intended.

I found it strange that episode one started with a meeting with Heaven. I know the "7 deadly writing sins" Hazbin video described a way the court session in Heaven could've been moved to episode one to first establish a need for the hotel, but Heaven and those from Heaven feel like they should've been endgame, not right out the gate.
It's fine to have multiple antagonists, but usually they differ in function to the main plot and characters. Both the Vees and Heaven oppose the Hotel (albeit for different reasons) but it would've been nice to introduce the Vees and other overlords more gradually and just generally keep the focus in Hell, its (Charlie's) people so we understand why Charlie cares about them so much because we're given reasons to ALSO care beyond our main cast, Hell's struggles both on a mundane and a wider political level, etc. Just Hell centered. Maybe have episode 1 first show a yet relatively undamaged Hellscape but an eerie quiet as people hide before the extermination. A few stragglers here and there who maybe died in the last week so don't know what's about to happen. Along with some sinners clearly staying out deliverately in a very self-destructive manner. THEN the extermination hits. We see the carnage and the aftermath. No dialogue.
(I maaaaay be ripping the openning scene of Arcane episode 1 off just a little, and I feel it would be appropriate, Hazbin shouldn't be copying Arcane but it isn't exactly NOT a tale of two cities)

There was very little worldbuilding and things seemed to be happening just to happen with no real explanation or complete story beats. I quit around episode 4 or 5 because I was, quite honestly, completely disoriented and had no idea what the point of anything was.
Contrast that with Helluva Boss, which I started a few weeks after, wherein I had a blast pretty much right away and binged the entire series (thus far). I might return to Hazbin Hotel now that I have more of an understanding of wtf is going on and what world I'm in, but, yeah I would say Hazbin Hotel is not very newbie friendly at the very least...

    Great review on Hazbin Hotel!👍
I think Hazbin Hotel could've been so much better if the plot cuts out the elements that could've been used for next season and just focus on our main cast more if the series has to have 8 episodes. Cut out Adam, the moving of the extermination closer conflict, the heaven plot, and the war battle and save it for next season. I think Season 1 should've just focus on our main cast and let the Vees be the main antagonists, but then again it'll go into clear rewrite territory, but it goes to show that the show's pacing is a mess.
But... I still really enjoyed myself watching for what we did get and it is an adult show that feels new and refreshing to see instead of just another clone of another show. I consider Hazbin Hotel an enjoyable mess that I do have a personal connection with in terms of myself being a fan.

But also first glimps for the new location)
If hells hierarchy, powerplays of Overlords, Lucifer, and fallouts of exterminations should be explored. We get to see shitty ones like V's and what they do, questionable ones like Carmilla and if they will be against the hotel or not.

Justice for Adam, he doesn't deserve hate at all unlike valentino. It's clear the way Adam is right now, can't be in heaven, and angels don't choose which souls get to heaven, the souls getting in heaven or hell automatically. So Adam wasn't evil soul ten thousands years ago, he may have good soul, but he was just a selfish person, not evil, who doesn't have any knowledge about morals, what's right or wrong, good or bad, he is first man in the environment that morals didn't existed for humanity yet. He didn't ate fruit of knowledge. He get so spoiled in heaven, and become a frat bro. Like common, I love Adam, he is funny, a prankster and troll. He has funny lines that made me laugh "hot as f tho" "guitar solo" and "low blow karen". He doesn't bully anyone in heaven, and doesn't even care about hiding a secret about extermination, if he almost didn't spel the beans in town, and then spel the beans in court, he himself doesn't understand why hiding a secret, he is hiding a secret only because it's Sera's order, but he doesn't understand why, and why winners would care about sinners. In hell sinners that not any better than Adam are more than sinners who deserves a second chance. Alex Brightman voices him. He never voices terrible character, always great, Beetlejuice, Pugsly, Fizzarolli and Sir Pentious. Adam is great and underrated character, he is terrible person, but Alastor, Vox, Velvette are terrible people too, but we love them being evil and fun.

Adam is one of my favorite characters, to me, he is well written villain. Vivienne and some animators and writers wrote on Twitter that he is one of their favorite characters, and how fun they have writing him. A charismatic funny cocky toxic spoiled misogynistic sexist based douchebag that you have fun love to hate. And there is a reason why he is that evil. Also in hazbin hotel he didn't ate the fruit of knowledge, because of this, he didn't gain knowledge, did not allow him to realize his mistakes, and cannot find the difference between good and evil, so he has black and white views. And then angels gave him a royal fancy live, that he will get anithing he wants on the silver platter, and not facing a consequences of his mistakes, and he lived like Kuzco, without love and discipline reveling in power in ten thousands years, so what's why he is so spoiled frat bro and has God complexes, because of the fact he get from angels that he is the first human, a special who gave birth to humanity, reason why Adam is so evil is due to him being spoiled rotten because of how he had the whole world in his favor on how he wanted to see it fit, making him labeled to be too special for his benefit, ironically this makes him more in line with how the original biblical Devil is than Lucifer, having his perfection corrupt him. I have no clue why "daddy issues" is such a focus on Charlie. Compared to all other characters made by Viv, Charlie's is more awkwardness than actual daddy issues we tend to see in other shows. Lucifer was literally beyond excited and wanting to do anything for her until her ask of getting a meeting with the Seraph.

Aparently Viv and his cowriter do it out of nostalgia because when they were kids he and Viv watched lots of telenovelas with their moms (so they changed Helluva to become a telenovela instead of the "The office" kind of comedy about assasins) and Viv watched lost of musicals (and aparently the classic musicals have a lot of info dumps in the songs but it works better because they have more songs to get the public invested too) but it seems the didn't find a balance to make it work after the readjustment because when people critize Viv's work objectively this is what comes out the most.

Cut out everything regarding Cannibal Town. Have the Extermination happen but limit the Angels that attack the Hotel to Lute & Adam. They are muscle enough for the entire main cast.

I’m a huuuuge fan of the show but believe me I have major issues with a lot of a the narrative and how easily they coulda done things differently to really reach the shows full potential. I found myself agreeing with almost all of your points and even had ones to spare of my own that you didn’t mention. Prolly also cuz if you did the video would be more than an hour long lol. The show itself is so comforting and interesting to me and I personally love most of the characters but I can definitely tell when something I love has major flaws. So thank you for not sugar coating anything but also giving praise when praise is due. (One example of a flaw that gets under my skin is how Vaggie never thought to even think angels could get hurt by other angels when guess what? She got hurt my another angel and had her eye permanently gouged. Yet she tells Charlie she had absolutely no idea. Like how can she not put two and two together and think that well I was angel and I was hurt by another angel so that means there is a way for an angel or even the weapons and hands of angel to harm other angels WOW. I feel if anyone would know that angels could get hurt and aren’t completely invincible like most of hell thinks they are is a FALLEN ANGEL. Another flaw is Carmillas motivations. She doesn’t want her family hurt so she keeps the secret of the angel dying at her hands so as to not start up a war, yet she sells weapons that could START A WAR even Velvette mentions this. Not to mention she says keeping her family safe is her first priority yet it takes Vaggie less than 2 minutes to convince her to help, seeing as carmilla is a smart overlord I’m guessing she has to know that if she aids in the rebellion heaven is gonna put way more focus on her business jeopardizing her family, business, status as an overlord etc. maybe she just gave in to Vaggie because she really wanted to help but for the the motives that the shows builds up for her it doesn’t make much sense for her to then do the very thing that could have heaven target her specifically like they did the hotel next time. Yes Vaggie says that the hotel can stand beside her but carmilla seems like the type that doesn’t trust easily so it’s weird how that all played out definitely an issue due to the pacing and how carmilla had to be convinced in that short amount of time or the plot wouldn’t move forward. There’s many other details, just wanted to point out some examples.

Also I quite like fast paced shows sometimes, that’s why the pacing of hazbin doesn’t bother me that much, but when it leads to underdeveloped moments and characters it’s just a bit of a let down because you just know that if they had a few episodes more those underdeveloped moments and characters coulda reached their full potential. As for the plot holes I noticed that could just be explained away as Carmilla was being nice and Vaggie just didn’t realize, they are still kinda weird details tho. Again I love the show but because I do I notice a lotta flaws.

I like Hazbin Hotel but there are issues
1 I think they killed off Adam WAY too early imagine if he learned to be more serious with is planing and not to underestamate his enimies and he changes into multiple monsterous variations overtime.
2 While I don't care about cursing it doesn't automatically make your show mature It didn't work for The 2019 Harley Quinn show, not for Ledgends of Chamberlain Hights, and not for Allen Gregory
3 I like Viv's artstyle and this show and Helluva are so far the best looking adult cartoons I've seen as WAY TOO MANY just rip of the Family Guy artstyle but as fellow TH-camr Zerex pointed out in his also really good essay on Hazbin Hotel a lot of the character's wear red and kinda have the same facial and body structres like for example
Lucifer,Alaster,Adam,an Sir Pentous all make this shit eating grin
Lucifer,Vorx, and Sir Pentous all wear the same buissness suit including a tie
Most of the characters have these pointy chins
I get it's in Hell but not EVERYTHING needs to be red for example you can make Husk yellow, you can make Angle green, you can make Nifty purple ect
4 I don't really care for some of the side charcters like the Egg Bois who for some reason got an episode instead of someone like Nifty or Husk
5 Nifty just got ROBBED in this season having NO focus episodes and under 20 minutes of screen time which sucks as she was the most entertaining part of the show for me.
6 I think there should've been more of a horror theme Alaster seems PERFECT for this but we never get to see what he can truly do I get it's season one so they didn't want to spoil everything but at least give us SOMETHING
SO while I don'i hate this show some of the problems with it still circle around it

Wo ever said that the show was only about the redemption? I assumed it at the beginning too. But it was made clear that the exterminaton will be a huge thing multible times after Happy day in Hell. Charlie has the hopes of getting them redeemed but Adam crushes that more or less right in the first episode by telling her about the extermination. She's still trying but surviving is more important at this point of the story. The first episode is the worst of them. I agree on that. Actually for me the show really strts with episode 4. My bro tho who didn't see the Pilot didn't need explanations on the characters and the setup, so I think because some things are explained differently than in the pilot we think it's not undersandable, but the info is there, scattered into the first two episodes.

My problem with the show is that its premise is the destroyed from the 1st episode The designs are unappealing and the writing is mediocre. The pilot had none of these

I will completely say as a Christian and as someone who pays close attention to what's going on in popular culture, Hazbin Hotel is extremely disappointing and very poorly made, despite having enormous potential.
On paper, Hazbin Hotel actually has a pretty good concept. Charlie the princess of hell wants to make peace with Heaven by opening a hotel to redeem sinners actually sounds like a pretty good idea. I thought it was working up until after the 6th episode, then the show became a complete mask off nightmare where it was clearly written by a morally and spiritually bankrupt, possibly agnostic, woke liberal feminists] who forgot that the plot of the show was about redemption from sin, and instead made it about justification for sin. The fact that she used demons as the protagonist of both her shows (This and Helluva Boss) is a massive warning flag I should have heeded.
Further evidence that this show was written by a feminist who is a massive misandrist (redundant, I know) is that the "antagonist" of the show is Adam, the First Man and leader of the exorcist army who is chauvinistic, foul mouthed, prideful, and crass. Despite these objectively negative qualities, HH is desperately trying to paint him as a villain, but he comes off as the actual hero of the show. I can't see him as any other way, because the show wants to challenge me with a perception of demons being innocent victims and Angels be murdering monsters. NO. As a Christian that's not going to fly with me. Angels and good and demons are evil; only a godless liberal would think otherwise.
I completely HATE the idea of demons being able to use Angelic weapons. The Angelic weapons should be like Holy Relics and burn them upon first touch, or the blessings from them should just disappear after use. There's no reason to give Angels their own version of kryptonite because of their own weapons.
Clearly these crap writers never did any research on what really happens when demons interact with actual Holy Relics. They are burned by them and fear Holy things like fire. That's really what should have happened.
Plus, after the unnecessary war with heaven and the slaughtering of Adam, the show destroyed its own plot, and made it completely pointless. Why would Charlie and the gang ever want to continue building a hotel to redeem sinners after, going to war with heaven, not getting their backing, and killing off the first man (a not so subtle message about taking down the patriarchy). Charlie could not get heaven's backing in the sixth episode, and why and how could she get it now? She can't. It's impossible now. They are are all war criminals and Heaven's greatest enemies now. They deserve nothing but punishment now.
Plus, despite her wishes to redeem sinners, she can't do it by default of being the devil's daughter. Redemption only comes from God (who is bizarrely absent from the show altogether). No other way is possible. Makes me feel sorry for her in that way.
Nothing about this show makes any sense, and it's completely pointless now. I know that a season 2 is in production, but there's no point to it. The season 1 finale played out like a series finale, and now it's a dead show.

I don’t agree with you calling Vivziepop a misandrist. Anyone familiar with her work is aware that she has received a lot of criticism for the treatment of her female characters. She gives her male characters way more focus, depth and attention than her female characters many who can usually be boiled down to a single word such as protector (Carmilla, Vaggie) or just a satellite to a male character (Millie). She cannot write female characters well. If anything she’s misogynistic lmao

Wait, so Adam's negative qualities make you feel as if he's the hero? Yikes #1. 2, how does having a male villain prove that Vivienne's a misandrist? If anything, she's more leaning toward misogyny with her work and it seems you are too.

@@MoonlightBrillance sexism is sexism, it's very rare for a person to be only a misogynist or only a misandrist. the two are usually interlinked to some capacity. so i can't say i agree with your assessment or at least this reasoning.
that said i don't know viv very well para-socially and def not otherwise. so, admittedly, i can't say anything of value on her character.

I started thinking this season is bad when we got Charlie's and Lucyfer's song about their relationship, when we didn't get any of it before, only mentioning it and flashback in that song. It was so boring, it needed at least few episodes of development.
And I didn't liked most of Charlie's songs, they were too boring and calm.

There are no Rick and Morty clones what are you talking about? the only thing that I can think of is solar opposites. "If you look at the broader visual landscape of Western television animation" if you actually watched a lot of adult Western animation you wouldn't say that. There's more to the West in America.

Obviously this show was just on a time crunch, if Viv never put it toward a major streaming property they would have gotten more time on it if it were still on TH-cam, but it might end up being longer to make without marketing. (I haven't watched this video because I'm sick of reviewers on this topic without considering the hardships.) So blame the corporate and not Viv. We waited long enough.
