Fantastic made a cardboard tube with some duct tape ran it for nine minutes. Found some water inside the freezer that had refrozen when it hit the freezer floor. Turn the power off to reset the error code. And I heard the fan start up. !!!!! I don’t know why yours doesn’t come up at the top of the search. I’m so glad I made it down to see your Video thanks again
Worked thank you!!! I taped over one of the vents and then alternated between warm and cold on the blowdryer for 8 minutes. Used the toilet paper roll. Unplugged and plugged the fridge back in and its perfect!!! Thanks again
Thanks again John. I saw your video two years ago and fix the problem. When I had the problem again today, fortunately I remembered I saw you on youtube and was able to look you up. You are a life saver!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This worked! 10-15 mins of blowdrying the bottom vent on low. Also unplugged my fridge while I did this, juuuuust in case. Worked like a charm. Bless you John Vega!
You are a genius John! This totally worked. I have the French door version of this refrigerator and this trick worked. Only thing different is I had to unplug it reset the code.
Reporting in July 2020: totally worked. I blocked the top vent with duct tape and used a Kleenex box taped to the bottom vent as an adaptor (hole cut in back for the hair dryer). After ten min of medium heat I flipped the circuit breaker to reset it. You are a life saver!!! Model LFXS28566S
@John Vega I am so sorry about the fire! My oldest brother was an EM doc sent over to help with recovery. I hope there is some good luck to be had going forward, and I hope you can recover somewhat. Thanks again for the help!
John!!! You are brilliant! I got the awful code and tried the hair dryer trick. WOW just WOW! It worked! Thank you for your wonderfully thoughtful solution! Best to you.
Worked like a miracle. I covered the top vent with some tape and blew medium heat on high speed at the bottom vent. After about 10 minutes the door alarm came on and everything worked again. So grateful for this video. Thanks!!
I did this, and it worked! I did it twice, once at night, and again in the morning. I covered the top vent with my hand, and blew the warm/hot air into the bottom vent for about 5 to 10 minutes. I moved everything away from the front of the top shelf air filter. I think blocking that caused the problem initially. I turned the fridge off at the electric box, and it reset. Good so far, and it's been about 5 days. I DID NOT WANT TO EMPTY and DEFROST.Yay!!
Dondra Lewis Osborne So happy the information in my TH-cam video helped you. If you have any other handyman hangups you’re welcome to give me a call. My phone number is 408-355-5732
So glad I found your video. Had we not still had our old fridge, we would have used your hairdryer fix. Instead, we transferred everything to the old fridge, tripped the breaker for the night, and left the doors open. Decided it was a good time to wash out the fridge and freezer compartments. Sorry about your Paradise house. Are you rebuilding? Our family just lost two homes and most of their worldly possessions in the Creek Fire.
sorry to hear about your family’s recent fire losses. I did not own the property. My Mother collected her insurance and moved to Texas. I still live in a Fema village in Gridley. Trying to figure out what to do. Blessings
Thank you sooooo much!!! You saved us especially during this crisis period. No one can come inside of the house to fix anything. Your way worked perfectly!
Good info for next time, thanks. I'm in the middle of doing it the old way right now. The drain off the coils was iced closed so probably needed to be done anyway. But once you get started, in a humid area, you're committed. Then you just have to dry everything completely. 🇺🇸
Thank you for sharing. 10 min on hair dryer worked! ! Thank you so much. You saved me a lot of money and time. I really appreciate you posting this helpful hint!
Worked for me. I started the hair dryer on medium heat and fan on high for 10 min. I then set it to high heat high fan and 2 min later, the fridge light flashed and the error cleared. Fantastic! Thank you much
This is my most watched video of all time. Funny because my house along with my refrigerator and whole town burned to the ground in 2018 in the Camp fire/Paradise fire.
@@johnevegas Wow. Sorry to hear about that. Glad you are safe. I will stick with the hairdryer technique vs. the burn your house down technique for melting fan ice.
John, I wanted to thank you for your very helpful video. I just finished de-icing my 5 1/2 year old LG. I don't know whether your trick will work or not (there was a lot of ice in the freezer on the front side of the back panel). Whether this works or not thank you very much. I hope you have "recovered" from the 2018 fires
I have an LG French door Fridge, and kept getting the error code of FF. I was just about to spend $125 just for a service call until I saw this video. Worked "Spot On"! But I did it a little differently, but the same method. I took the Freezer bottom of the Fridge halfway apart, to where I could get to the vents of the Freezer Fan compartment. Then I got the blow dryer and blew the hot air into the vents for about 10 minutes. I could actually see the ice build up on the coils, from the left vent. Then afterward, I put together and reassembled the bottom freezer. I had a little problem with the control panel still, but something in the middle of the night kicked in, and now...NO PROBLEMS! Thanks, John for the great idea! Saved me money...especially during a Divorce! :)
Same thing just happened to me and this trick absolutely works! After about 10 min door beeped and reset itself. Taped a paper towel roll on my hairdryer, taped the vent that wasn't getting the hot air, switched every few mins...all fixed! Thanks!!
Hello And thanks I didn’t even realize the freeze had so much ice on the coils! It’s gonna take all day n night for the big fridge to defrost ! Now I see why my fridge is not getting cold
LOL! IT WORKED! After 15 minutes of blowing medium hot air into the two vents I turned the circuit breaker off then on and everything worked fine. I also turned the "ice plus" on, which apparently makes the fan run faster and should stop it from freezing. Thanks so much!
Thank you so much! We watched the other guy’s video where he basically takes the entire freezer apart and then we found this one. Yay! It worked. Thanks for sharing!!!
Thanks so much..I had to do one thing extra though....after putting tape over the vents and using the hair dryer with a tissue roll....I unplugged the fridge and waited 2 min and plugged pack in again....seems to be working...and told my son not to leave the door open again.
Glad I could help. Unfortunately my LG refrigerator along with my entire home and town burnt to the ground November the 8th 2018 in the Campfire conflagration in Paradise, Ca where I used to live so I don’t have to concern myself with repairing my LG refrigerator anymore 😊👍🏼
John Vega John I am so sorry that your, home, belongings and town were consumed by the fire in 2018 in Paradise, CA. Right now, our refrigerator and freezer are stuffed to the brim with food to assist us in making it thru this stay in place coronavirus. The 1F code appeared this evening. My first line of defense is Google when it comes to that type of thing. I know that particularly things are not always what is suggested. My eyes fell upon your demo and I was this is what I need to do. Like others have said, Thanks, John and I shall say “thank you very much John Vega”. Sharing your knowledge is still working. I do hope life is far better for you these days. Sunne Rinkus, TX.
Thank you for your concern. You can pray for me. I am still trying to figure out where to live and I’m in a FEMA trailer for the time being. God is good all the time.
OMG John I'm so sorry to hear that! I know I'm finding this video years later, but still breaks my heart you lost your home. You are right, God is good all the time
Ya thanks. Blowing into primarily the bottom but alternating and after a few minutes I could actually hear the ice cracking and about 10 minutes later, no more problems!
Wow, that hair-dryer technique is an excellent idea! Thanks for sharing, John. I have LIKED and Subscribed to your channel. Another good one is to utilize a powerful STEAMER fitted with a power tip attachment...it can really help defrost the blocked vents super fast! That HOT steam melts the ice build-up easily and it doesn't take to long (depending how much ice is built-up in them). Plus, it refreshes & cleans the vents & refrigerator all at the same time. ;-D Don't worry about the temp of the steam...it's HOT enough to melt the "iced" vents, but not hot enough to warp the plastic surrounds. 😀 I learned this from the Tech/repairman that came to my house to remedy ice blocked vents, etc. The problem was solved in under 15-20 minutes. *NOTE: I did have to remove some of the food containers, bottles & jars, etc. away from the central vents AND pull out a few drawers due to having really THICK ice build-up at the back wall and directly in the vents. TIP: Just be sure STEAM is coming out...NOT just really hot water. You do not want to shot WATER in the vents (then you will have another problem)! Just make sure the steam is in the VAPOR stage ONLY! You'll know it's WORKING (defrosting) as soon as you see the steam vapors rolling out of all the vents (the vents are linked together). Also, have a few thick dry towels or paper towels handy to absorb all of the "melted" ice and bucket to collect all of the falling ice pieces. LESSON LEARNED: Going forward...I will avoid crowded the refrigerator with a lot of stuff...especially in front of those precious VENTS! ;-D
Hey it DID actually work! Thanks a ton. Seems more effective to blow warm air into the lower vent as cold air comes out the top vent, indicating it is circulating thru the freezer/fan. Did not get the same effect blowing into the upper vent.. Also, not sure covering the top vent actually makes a difference as it might be impeding the warm air circulating thru the fan. Error codes gone and ice tray full, one week after doing thew fix.
Thanks! Your method REALLY works with minimal to no removal of any food items in the fridge. My had just started to show the "Er IF" code the other day after buying it new from SEARS in late 2012). It did take me 45-60 minutes to thaw the ice buildup on the coil (impedes the ice cooler fan) by blowing into the lower vent on the side of the Kenmore Elite fridge--maybe I have excessive amount of ice, but actually, I just wanted to make sure I melt most of the ice buildup before plugging the fridge back on. Sorry to hear your LG fridge got burned down.
Thank you for the info. This worked great. The only thing I will ad is after about 25 minutes I could not delete the error code. I unplugged the fridge for 30 seconds and plugged it back in and the fridge reset.

Then straight to Google found this video, saved me an expensive service call. Unplugged, plugged back in. Error gone. Went ahead and did the dryer thing a a few minutes. I’ve had this problem repeatedly. It did work then came back. It seems if I just leave the fridge unplugged for a while or don’t open it for a few days it helps too
Tried this today. Used the hair drier and even rigged the end with a cardboard cut out. Took only a few seconds of getting too close to the vent even with the cardboard to deform the wall around the vent . Hopefully this does not give me bigger problems
Fahim Zaywari when you forget to leave space on the top shelf air filter it will happen again. Keep the air filter on the back of the top shelf open and it should not happen again.
Yes IF - error is "ICE FAN" - 60% of the time the fan ices up. Using a blow dryer to clear the ice is a good idea. The other 40% of the time the fan itself or the wiring to the fan is bad.
Fantastic made a cardboard tube with some duct tape ran it for nine minutes. Found some water inside the freezer that had refrozen when it hit the freezer floor. Ex LG tech, IF is ice fan, two fans behind rear cover in freezer, cause could be air leaks, doors not sealed, its will happen again
Do I unplug the fridge to do this?
you should
JUST ME ALWAYS yes
@@johnevegas omg wtf it worked I'm freaked. Lol thanks so much
It worked for me! Thank you very much
Yup...it worked...thanks
worked !!! thank u so much
easy method, does it work permanent or will come again? thanks
Fahim Zaywari when you forget to leave space on the top shelf air filter it will happen again. Keep the air filter on the back of the top shelf open and it should not happen again.
Ugh I tried and melted the area. Now there’s a gap and still an error code. 😔
That’s what started to happen to mine and so I put the paper towel attachment to prevent that from happening.
Yes IF - error is "ICE FAN" - 60% of the time the fan ices up. Using a blow dryer to clear the ice is a good idea. The other 40% of the time the fan itself or the wiring to the fan is bad.
does it work permanent or will come again?
Fahim Zaywari keep the top shelf air filter clear of stuff and it shouldn’t happen again.
Lg inverter fridge error code f dh come
20 minutes didn't work tell i unplug the refrigerator
