  • Taking care of your Abu Garcia ProMax will make it last years longer and keep it performing like new! In this video I show you how I breakdown and oil my reel. It's a great thing to do for any reel. I like to keep my baitcasters oiled about every 3 weeks or so and do a more thorough breakdown and oil before tournaments or every 6 weeks or so. I hope this video helps you out. Please like and subscribe if it does!

Awesome video mate. Was surprised how clean my pro max was inside when I opened it up. It would have to be at least a decade old and still works like new. Cheers!

Those reels will work for years and years if you take care of them! Thanks for watching. Tight lines!

Good! Most reels will be similar. The main difference is how the door opens

@@freaknfishn did those reel handle caps ever come off by themselves? i just remove them now because some would just come off for no reason.

I haven’t had a problem with them coming off however that was the first thing I thought the first time I took one off.

Man i was hoping you were going to take it all the way apart. The handle side has all the gearing and stuff. I bought an old Abu Garcia Ambassadeur Ultra and I was hoping this one might be the same setup

Yeah I need to do a video on that. I rarely break one all the way down unless I notice a significant performance issue or like you did, buy an older reel and just want to go thru it. Hope you were able to find a video on yours

My tension knob stopped clicking last time I took it apart any advice on that

I don’t have that reel anymore or I’d take a look. If memory serves me there is a plastic disc in there and that is what clicks against a metal fin inside the knob cover. Make sure you have both those parts in there and that the grooves on the plastic disc are facing out.

My handle has a fair amount of play in it, any advice on fixing that?

If it’s the actual handle, I’d check the nut on the outside first. If it’s not that it could be a bearing. Is there any squeaking? If it feels like the thumb handles it could just be the screw is loose on the backside
