Another very thorough instructional video for someone who wznts to get into bait casters. I'm sure your community appreciates these videos. Be blessed. My friend.
Thx, I appreciate it! Goal is to help folks! ;)
abu garcia for beginners never fail. My first baitcaster was abu garcia black max3 11 years ago
11 years ago? Thats how long the bm3 lasted? Holy hell lol. This bm 4 or bmx was release maybe a year ago. But my first bc reel was a revo... 20 something years ago lol
Heck yes. My BlackMax3 is still in regular use - currently on a Daiwa AIRD X making a great budget combo setup
Great video. Thank you. Bought one while watching the video. $78 Reel and Abu 5600 rod Combo....Great deal.
Nice buy! Should be able to use this reel for a long time! Hope u will catch tons with it
Thanks for all the awesome information waiting for the rod to come back in stock bought the spinning one
you are welcome! I don't know much about their spinning reels as i don't use spinning reels often :P
so, I started with a stupid BC i want to send it to you I reckon you wouldn't even be able to cast the stupid thing... I almost gave up on them but pushed thru. I picked up 2nd hand abu and the difference was night and day... and now I own the tatula its once again night and day difference. thanks for breaking it all down and making it easy to understand and what to look for in BC reel for beginners like me. honestly this information and reviews you provide is priceless! legend mate!
Glad you found my videos useful! BC reels are really great and I hope you will be able to try other casting techniques like skipping, flipping and pitching and such with it soon!
I own 2 of these they were on sale on Amazon so I scooped them up I haven't had any problems I run them with 12lb and 10lb copolymer suffix. And Yo-zuri 12lb copolymer never had a problem and many fish later it's a good beginner reel.
Nice! Glad to see you agree and having a blast catching
I have been fishing for about a year with the Max Pro model, which I think is mostly the same as this reel except for higher gear speed, clicking tension and drag, nicer knobs, and more bearings. I think it normally runs around $90 but I got it for around $50 brand new on ebay. No complaints, I've never had a serious backlash and I don't have to use a lot of brakes. Even my dad, who is less experienced with baitcasters than me, could cast a 1/4 oz crankbait without any issues
Awesome! These can take a nice beating. I was just offered a reel to do a spool swap for the old bm3 and wow he had it for a hot minute!
Jimbo back when I started using a bait caster years ago I used the Abu Garcia. I don’t remember the model of it but it wasn’t a round reel. And back the that was a great reel for a beginner. Now I am thinking about getting back into bass fishing and going with the Tatula 100. The Gekibijin really spoiled me.
I started with a revo, which was centrifugal braking. A bit harder to learn than magnetic lol. But I got used to it... Took a while lol. But here I am, teaching folks how to cast :)
Yeah those Daiwa reels spoils us well lol
Jimmy, I have a BMax 3 with Avail spool. It just needs light bearings and it's G2G for probably sub-2g casting. On stock bearings, it throws 3g just fine. Talk to me if you want to coordinate a lend. 👍
Sweet! I actually gotten a loaner now! Yay! I appreciate it! I got two avail spools to play with, so it will be fun :)
I have the Abu Garcia black Max bait caster reel as well my Abu Garcia black Max is a 6.4:1 gear ratio I have it paired up with a Abu Garcia medium havey 7foot vengeance rod 🎣 I saltwater Pier fish with it 👍🏼🎣
awesome! Sounds like it can take a beating for the salt world!
Great vid! I fish in South Jersey probably in alot of the same spots- gotta get fishing!!!
Thx! Nice! The bite picked up and it's fun!
Just found one on fb marketplace for 10 bucks, combo and some lures.. figured for that price i may as well learn!
that's awesome! Let me know if you got questions. You can follow this same video step by step to explore the brakes. You can also watch my actual tutorial if you haven't already. I featured the Daiwa Tatula 100 on that video, but it's a magnetic braking reel like this one and the same approach is used to explore and learn the reel's braking behavior!
Just getting into baitcasters do you have to two hand cast. I find i birds nest more when I two hand than one hand. Great video
@@lennyboy57 welcome to my channel! all about baitcasting reels! U don't have to cast with two hands, it depends on your setup. longer and heavier setups should use two hands. it's likely because you are over powering your casts with two hands. I think if you take the time to watch this video or my casting tutorial, you can setup your brakes and tension to the point where it should not overspool, which leads to backlashing !
Very good video. Thanks.
Thx I appreciate it
Very shocking to see an Abu BMX reel reviewed on the channel 😅😅 Abu Garcia got a nice promotion for their budget baitcaster. There will be lots of new anglers trying to learn how to use this reel.
lol, I bought it to try out some BFS spools for the BM3, but it didn't fit. It's just sitting here, so I should do something with it. Else it's an expensive paper weight LOL
I got a blue max version of this as an exclusive Walmart combo with a MH fastish tip. Good cranking setup with that lower gear. Only $40
Dang... 40 with a rod is cheaper than this lol
@@rawrfishing even cheaper if you get their spinning setup, medium fast
Yeah... Not a spinning setup fan, I guess I will have to pay more lol
I got the black max with red handle on my Ugly Stick nice. My 4 baitcaster reel I do like this one. Just stating in the world of Bass fishing 🎣 🧐 the reel work's 🤔 it left the factory after quality control and you that it was not going to work right. But Can it Cast 😋
it's a great reel, but if it got quality control issues, return for another one. Easy for beginners to use. but if u want something better after you return, look at the Daiwa Tatula 100! i got a video on that one too!
Looking for my first baitcaster gonna buy today thanks!
It will be a great reel to learn from!
@@rawrfishingI hope!
@@AnglerInsights could always get the Tatula 100! If u find the previous model, it's still good!
Just a heads up, I like the current black max and have one from walmart I got on sale might be Gen 3. However TEMU sales one for really cheap but it IS an early gen/ complete knock off. It functions but it is very very noisy and unless you absolutely need it I don't recomending going that low budget ha ha Good review thanks for putting it out!
Thx for sharing! when it comes to reels, I don't have time to play with Temu quality reels. Most of the time, Im wasting time and money. I don't see the value for myself nor the fans. The best advice I can tell ppl is stay away from Temu reels! Aliexpress got some better ones, but not many are great. The Facebook group filled with folks who are willing to try anything these days, so I just peek in to see what is worth my time or not. But I hit a time of my life where my time is being split up now. And i choose to budget my time towards the family for now. Kids grow up so fast! I wanna give an experience to my son that I never experienced while growing up. So that said, I think I'll cut 80% budget reels from China for now!
@@rawrfishing Only mentioned it because a lot of people that look up "budget" reel videos will look for BUDGET gear and not always worth it. Totally understand the struggle balancing family and fishing! No sense in wasting your fishing portion fiddling with a barely functioning reel right?
I still use the knock off to cast my Deeper Sonar ha ha
Absolutely correct! Those budget videos are usually just to attract folks. I don't grab any cheap thing and try to make a budget video out of it. Budget don't mean crap tools! I wanna share stuff at a reasonable price and something that can perform!
Nice review and looked decent for a budget reel. I think a true budget reel is a cdm reel like a seasir commando and have been getting rave reviews for their products.
I would have like to see the minimum cast weight of this reel added to your reviews. Its a important value using overhead reels. Where a spin reel you can get away with a large weight range.
Thx! I will take the recommendations into consideration.
I don't think it is necessary for min weight casting for a reel that isn't made to cast light. I do plenty of bfs reel cast testing that portrays how light it can go!
While cdm products are priced cheaply, If countries decide it excise tax properly for fishing tackle on Aliexpress... prepare to see prices go up. The fishing industry is fighting and working on passing bills to ensure this happens. The question is when...
You can go through my videos as I have plenty of bfs cast testing videos that are from Aliexpress. I show how low they can go!
I have one but should I have to e brakes on 12 or 11 or there’s really no difference
Your setup will be different than mine. So I think in my personal opinion, if you follow the exact method shown here, you should be able to feel every changes as you change brake setting. The moment you set the tension one time and never touching it again makes it like math. We now have a fixed variable and so as you adjust the brakes, you should technically feel it! I got a tutorial on how I do this if you wanna try. But this video should technically suffice as I feel this clearly demonstrated it's braking capabilities.
I have one with a shallow spool don't know if it is 3rd or 4th Generation, really like it.
What does your reel say on it? Does it say Black Max X?
@@rawrfishing I think so Jimmy.
@@markuskuebler9294 I would need to get a link of where u have gotten the spool if that is the case
@@rawrfishing Jimmy I bought the spool one year ago at Dong Hai LongWang Outdoors Store (Aliexpress) but it seems not to be on stock any more.
Bummer :(
when i try to put line on my baitcaster it wont take in any line when i try to reel it in the middle part wont move
Try Increasing the drag via the drag star next to the handle
Hello I’m tryna buy one, approximately how far does it cast in feet? Thanks❤️
No idea, but it is pretty good! I think if u want distance... Higher end reels be the best choice... But this was not bad! Better than kastking at least
@@rawrfishing Does the daiwa tatula 100 cast further?
Out of the box, slightly! But much smoother and easier to control!
You can also find the 2019 Tatula 100 for 129.99 as they are selling those to clear inventory as the new 2023 is out and retails msrp at 179.99
@@rawrfishing I’m tryna buy my first baitcaster but I’m stuck between 3 options the Abu Garcia MAX X,Daiwa TATULA 100 and the Abu Garcia REVO4 SX
I also saw a good deal on the REVO and TATULA at 100$ each on eBay
this reel should be worth more than 100 for it's performence doesnt feel like a 60$ reel
It does well indeed! While it performs great, I think ppl want to pay for the bells and whistles!
Looks like you have the option to glue some more magnets if you want to cast heavier lures? Or do you need more magnets for lighter lures?
It does look like a option! They utilize OEM parts overseas, so the plate is used by many other brands too.
I think I can add more if needed. I will try with the AMO spool that came in the mail :)
@@rawrfishing just followed you from your vid with AAA guys last night. I've heard Aaron Hunt mention you as well so it's all good to hearfrom you and watch your vids
Can't wait to see how it goes with that spool. Also I just started fishing 2 years ago so I'm brand new to everything. Plus I like to tinker and modify stuff if I have extra reels and parts that didn't quite work right.
Thx for the follow! Those are great guys! Sounds like you have many years to explore the fun world of fishing tackle. While I have fished almost 30 years.. I am learning new stuff and always is tinkering! Right now my chapter of fishing is mainly finesse fishing via bfs!, but I do use typical BC size for bass and snakehead fishing around my area and I also got the sea not too far away :) hope you enjoy you stay, let me know if u got questions 👍
@@rawrfishing 30years, did your dad put the reel in your crib and float you in the water? How old are you bro? I'm 46 so Lord willing i might get to fish 30-40 years total.
What’s ur break setting?
@@GabrielRocha-wb5ks watch the entire video as I have shown many braking settings. Find one that works for you! Tight lines
@@rawrfishingthanks
If you want to cast with zero brakes buy a kestrel bfs reel 1g-15g both cast just as far 😅😅😂😂
That over brake reel won't go anywhere
This is for everyone that buys this reel … there’s nothing wrong with a budget reel… here’s a secret nobody will tell you,….
All you need to do is buy a set of hybrid ceramic bearings,… change them out … keep your reel clean and you will be amazed how much more distance you will gain….!
It’s all about the bearings…! Not always about what you spend… fish don’t care about how expensive your gear is…🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Bearings boys… Bearings ..👍😎🤙
It's not not just about bearings. Bearings allows spool to spin easier and faster. But if your brakes is insufficient, you just made the reel harder to use.
