Thanks Sean for a great video. A couple of days ago, my rod and reel decided to go swimming and by some amazing luck we were able to retrieve it!! So on disassembly, I never took a picture, I had taken the springs apart for the spool ratchet and release mechanisms and I was stuck. so I scramble to YT to find a video, and yours was the BEST! Showed me exactly where they had to go. Great Job!
*Bought a 500 for an ultralight rod. It's very smooth **enjoyable.fishing** recommend casts great. One odd thing- the bale wire is a bit heavy diameter in my opinion for a reel of this size. But a great purchase.*
This video helped me service my BMX 3 and correct a few things which the previous owner had messed up. For example the washers under the drag star had been placed the wrong way which caused the drag to slip while retrieving. That was frustrating during fights. So this helped me figure out that issue. Now I upgraded all bearings in the reel, and the handle and it's running like a reel you'll find in a higher price range. I also purchased a second spool which is a shallow spool so I could fish bfs situations with it. It casts light lures up to 70 feet with no issues. They're really a great real for the price point. Great video. Thank you.
My first time disassembling a bait caster completely and I had a hard time figuring out which way up or down the washers go. Thanks to your video I was able to put back together my Revo. Great video bud.
@@Keep_It_Loaded I just got a Blue Max Gen 3 on eBay, is that similar to the Black Max Gen 2, or are there any meaningful differences (other than gear ratio)?
@@sifuculreif6448 they are pretty much the same despite amount of bearings and audible spool tension. I do have a Pro Max vid also but can not remember if the quality of that vid was any good.
@@Keep_It_Loaded Good to know. I've heard that the Blue Max is a discontinued reel that many budget anglers wish was still in production. I'm surprised I found such a unicorn under $40!
Dude you're a life saver because today was my first time ever disassembling and cleaning my gen 3 and I wasn't sure where to put a couple of the parts, and I found out so quick and easy using your guidance. Thanks bro 🤜🤛
Thanks for actually putting together a near 💯 take down and reassembly of the Black Max. 9/10th of this video is applicable to near all other baitcasters, granted higher end reels and especially Daiwa and Shimano tend to have more parts and more intricacies. So many other videos on the Black Max (and other reel videos) are just basic oiling and wipe downs.
Thanks so very much I had my black Mac in pieces and was about to give up until I found your video thanks for the step by step. It's working like a dream 👍👍
Bro.. thank you for your video. It really helped me fix my reel. For a min there I thought I was going to have to go buy a new one. But I decided to try and fix it my self. So I did and with your help I got it done. Ones again thanks. Well got to go. The bass are waiting for me lol.
My drag doesn’t work at all (spool won’t spin at all). Could you perhaps think of why? It all seemed to be put together correctly. I don’t believe it has ever been disassembled until I just took the handle and drag star off to get a visual.
Sorry this is so late, but I ran into the same issue. The U-shaped piece that holds the smaller gear and the springs was installed upside down. The metal side needed to go up! Hope that helps somebody.
I have an Abu Garcia black max my guideline broke lost my pawl and cover and the shim that goes in there. Where would you recommend I find those parts is there a parts Depot you recommend?
I really enjoyed the video man. One suggestion though. You should invest in an ultrasonic cleaner if you clean a lot of reels. Half water and half 409 solution, set the timer and let it do work. 👍🏻👍🏻
Can anyone tell me why when i put my reel back together it doesn’t pop back into gear after putting it into freespool, i think it has to do with the white piece with 2 springs on the internals but I don’t know for sure
I did this exactly as per video, once put together, on the retrieve it's making a knocking noise which I can feel now and I don't know why. Taken it apart 3 times
@@Keep_It_Loaded I okay my friend I'm right handed my friend I just bought a right handed abugarcia black max reel for the first time for my baitcaster rod I normally retrieve my spinning reel with my left hand
After reassembling mine when I turn the crank the spool doesn't move and also it sounds like something is loose, being tossed around inside when shaken. Do you know what I did wrong? Advice is much appreciated.
oortiz tighten spool tension? I ended up buying a new reel bc I had no clue what to do. I can strip mine down and put it back together but I can't figure out what's wrong. New reel going strong after almost a year
⚠️help needed⚠️I’ve had a bait caster for a while and I just tried cleaning it so I can use it, but the drag wheel keeps hitting the handle when ever I loosen it. I don’t know if this is normal but if anyone could help it would be appreciated
Keep It Bent! I was wondering because I have an issue with the braking system as well as the plastic “min-max” knob. It’s brand new (only used like 5 times) and have never properly worked. Every time I cast the lure only goes 10 feet in front of me. And yes my spool tension is turned almost all of the way out and all of my “spool brakes” are in the off position. What’s funny is that when I remove the cover for the brakes, my magnets often fall out. I ordered a brand new min/max knob and other internals hoping they resolve the issue. That’s the reason why I was watching your video..... (I wanted to know the proper way of disassembling and reassembling the side braking plate) do you have a video that covers that part of the reel. Thanks buddy and I appreciate any help that you can pass along. Have a great evening.
@@robcochran1558 damn, sorry to hear that. Ya I've never had that problem with the brake on any of mine. With that said, I've never taken it apart. Hopefully the new parts fix it and it's a easy repair. Sorry I couldn't help.
Keep It Bent! Lol.. both my pfluegers took a crap on me last week 😐 Customer service sound like they will take care of it. How often do you oil and grease your reels?
TYLER B/ OHIO FILMS Umm, maybe like once a month to every two months on ones used frequently. Never really paid attention to time and go more by feel. Some of them may go like 6mths or more if not used often.
I don’t understand why you would take it completely apart there are no rubber seals in here besides under your little plastic cap I have always used a light parts cleaner and Spray it down and you do not have to take the entire thing apart you spray it out repack your bearings with grease and oil where it needs to be and you are finished
Trash reel, I only had it since last year..used it 6 times. I put it away, went to use it yesterday, and the worm gear doesn't move at all. Took it apart to find the gear is chewed up.

I have a question can the abuugarcia black max reel also be used as a left and a right handed reel or just right handed
Not ambidextrous. You have to buy right or left.

I have, I've put a larger handle w/EVA foam grips on one of mine.
@@Keep_It_Loaded How do you like it? I love the hell out of this dang reel, but I did feel a slightly larger handle would really top it off.

Will this work for my old pro max?
Yes, max series are almost all identical. Primarily just a difference of how many bearings.a
@@Keep_It_Loaded thank you for making that video 😁
Why didn’t you disassemble and rebuild/ lubricate the side plate, and oil the side plate bearing?
Currently have never needed to disassemble the side plate. The bearing I do oil though.

No I did not. In this one or a different one I only talk about what I use grease or oil on.
