I have one of these but i really need to know if there is supposed to only have half of the magnets in the reel when you open up the magnetic brake side panel if so why is that?
Just got the Max Pro and found this, so thank you for taking the time to make it. After seeing this, I'm now very curious about the material Abu Garcia uses for their washers, and really curious if the Cabontex Drag Washers can improve the reel. As Anubhav suggested, it would be awesome to see some drag test videos demonstrating Abu's original washers vs the Carbontex. If the Carbontex can increase the 15lb Max Drag to about 18lb, then that would be awesome. Also, you recommended lightly greasing the Blue (bigger washer). I opened the Max Pro, and that particular washer is bone dry. The smaller washer on the other side is greasy and oily. I don't get why one side is bone dry; the other side is oily. How does oiling both help the drag?
Sorry for the late reply. I found the blue washer to be somewhat sticky. That's why I thought a little grease would help. For me the grease didn't do much. The Carbon fixed the sticking. On a reel in that price category, you will not get increased drag. The reason being, only one drag washer and the size of the washer. The better reels with more drag will have larger and stacked washers. Typically, 3. Hope this helps.
Quick question. I have the same reel however, my side plate will not release to get spool out. It’s the exact reel here and I’m pulling the gold pin for release but side plate will not come off. I haven’t pried it anything because I don’t want to break it.Any suggestions?
I hope to do more videos when I retire in January. On the topic of drag, I would take 15 lbs. of SMOOTH DRAG over 18 lbs. of something that sticks any day. I found the original washer to be somewhat sticky. That's why I suggested the grease. The grease didn't seem to help. I went with carbon!
Great review sir, could u measure it's drag test on weight scale after changing it's drag washer? Plz tell how much kg of drag power this reel giving now. And Second doubt I have this reel is having two drag washer and one mattle washer on the top of main gear, but sir there are some other brands reel in which they have more then two drag washer and mattle washers. So which casting reel is having more drag power. Could u tell or make video on this sir..
I do not have a scale to measure the drag pressure. The main reason I switched out the drag washer was because the original washer was sticking and was inconsistent. There are other reels with much more drag if that’s what you’re looking for I would suggest the Revo SX it produces 24 pounds of drag and will stop a truck. Hope this helps.
@@abugarciareelrepairandmain8684 thanks for ur respond sir, that I knew Revo SX has much more drag power but still u can measure drag of those reel an make video would be great.
Thank you! I pulled mine apart to clean sand and got lost lol😅
Easy to do. Thanks for watching

When you pull the gold pin twist the side plat up as shown in the video @ 2:57. They can get a little sticky if it's been a while. Good Luck.
