  • In Why Men Rape, Tara Kaushal sets out to understand the reasons through a detailed investigation which includes meetings with nine men who have an inclination to commit acts of sexual violence. The men interviewed for the book belong to all sections of society: a doctor who raped his twelve-year-old patient; an unemployed youth who decided to kill his former lover; a youth who gang raped; a serial gang rapist who doesn't believe rape exists. Alongside, the author gives insights from myriad survivors; world-famous experts; a jail inmate who observes and provides us with a commentary on the worldview of rape convicts inside a prison; and many more.At a time when sexual violence is crippling our society, Why Men Rape marks an important contribution towards making us aware of the problem, and finding a way to stop it. Just because they count less in number, doesn't mean they have to be ignored. Both should be given justice. Before 50 years people who spoke about our (women's) sufferings were less in number, what if they were ignored? Think.

I appreciate your courageous effort to talk about this topic which is often categorized as taboo. I feel, today's men should talk about such topics more because when a woman speaks for herself, they are labeled as Feminist which itself is not acceptable for many men. They feel intimidating by seeing an independent woman.
Breaking the barriers and speaking against the social evils such as rape, needs a real gut. 👏 👏
You have brought this book to our knowledge, hopefully this would give different perspective to understand different dark sides of people.
Few men have no idea, they are narcissists, and most of the victims are their lover, girlfriend, sister, or close circle who are their loved ones.
Could you please talk about that as well in the upcoming days with some book reference.
It saddened my heart much about the attitude of such man who does rape, just to prove their physical strength and power. I wish educating people on their humanities and behaviour with their opposite gender would decrease the rate of rape. Respect to the author and you Anandhi.❤

Rape and sexual abuse crimes should immediately stop. These rapists put the entire male community to shame. Every men is looked upon with suspicion and fear because of these rapists.
*If a girl keeps hearing these kind of news of men sexually abusing women very often, then fear and hatred for men keeps growing in her mind, even to the point where she refuses to be around men and even marry any man.*
Punishments for Rape should be as brutal as possible for the criminals to understand the gravity of the crime.

I am living outside India for some years now. Women here wear WHATEVER they want without being judged or disturbed. On the contrary, back home, I had well educated friends who debate that women who wear improper dress are inviting trouble. I always had a notion that the country with change with my generation as many are educated than a generation before. I think it is high time, we change what we teach at schools.. Rather than by-heart and vomit stuff and be competitive in exams. Schools should aim at building more responsible citizens. Which actually is happening where I live. Probably we need to start from the basics to grow responsible citizens.

@RJ Ananthi, please talk about mental health which is the root cause of all these. Mental health is so important which is not spoken about much in India as much as it should be. Everyone has trauma in their lives. Since the age of 6 if children can be taken once in a while to psychologist or education in school about mental health is important. or parents should be guided to speak to children, learn about their feelings. Parents who don't know these how to bring up a child of good mental health, thats when teenagers develop to become narcissists. All parents should be educated on how to handle the emotions and thoughts of their kids the right way. Just providing food and things for children is not bringing up children.

As a guy whose brought up in an elite environment and who's life revolves around well read and well aware people, issues like these often ignored and are thought of as something that happens only in rural places or in places with people with backward mindsets... Until things happen to someone you know.
Keeping the negativity aside, it's really important to open up our minds to such realities and the core mindset of people indulging in such crimes.
Also, I'm looking forward to further parts of this review, where u might discuss about well read and educated men... What would their mindset be? They would certainly have felt some shame...right..?
And finally, what do u think is a solution? Is it just getting as many people educated as possible, while instilling such topics into early education?

And most woman don't react even if they know a child or woman being abused cos they are financially dependent on that man and worried about their society as most of India is not city. When you make a move on a girl and don't stop when she says no, it's rape, even if she isn't able to do anything about it in the circumstance. Most victims go into a state of shock that immobilizes them. Absence of resistance is not consent.

yes. it is important to learn emotional and mental abuse. When you know your family is toxic, first step is don't let them affect you mentally. Get mental help and support from therapists, friends etc... I do not know your age. Find out who are really good people around you, who won't take advantage of you, form a good trust worthy friends & relative circles for your own self. Start building yourself up in studies and professional work wise, become super strong mentally, emotionally and physically. Give yourself love, take care of your own physical health, mental health etc... do things that make you happy to counteract the negativities in the life, fill it up with other positive interests, like learning new things or travel what makes you happy that doesn't hurt yoruself or others (stay away from bad vices like smoking, drinking or drugs). watch self love and self improvement videos. you can do this. and once you are strong in all these ways, move out, detach yourself from toxic family members. good luck

Many good things are pointed out in this video. This is a very important issue, which become a very big disaster around the world. From my own research, I found out three reasons and all are from research papers.
    1) Most crimes happen in the influence of alcohol, and we can see that many grape have been happening because of intake alcohol, which make your mind to be not on conscious.
    2) Addiction in pornograpghy, statistics tells that more 45% of people who graped others are pornographic addicts.
    3) psychologically affected people from childhood thinks that, it's not wrong because some extreme cases happened in some countries like mother graping her own son or like father graping his own daughter.
I am not a modern feminist because that ideology went too extreme that some women started to grape men and boys. As well as fake abuse and grape cases on some innocent men. i used the term " some" because as a logical human being we should never generalize bad behavior to any gender, race, religion or colour. As per biological study, men have little more drive in sexual behavior than women but it never supports grape in any way or form.

People tend to blame and talk about only problems not solutions. Is this book talking about any solution other reporting and highlighting problems. I’ve few solutions in my mind. Legalizing prostitution is one way to reduce the incidents. At least for situational cases will reduce. We should reduce obsession on marriage institutions forced by society. Physical intimacy before marriage shouldn’t be considered as sin and should be generalized. It’s not ok for men not have have physical intimacy until age of 30 because of society or family economy. It’s against the nature. No one talking about this. In western countries most of them experiences it before 18. Since they experienced at young age, they don’t give much importance or obsessed at adult age. So most of the time they don’t go wrong just to experience something. I am not saying it is 100% solution but it’s works for most cases.

I did happen to chat to the authour through social media. She is a genuine person, does responds to readers. Most of the crimes are done without knowing its the crime. Still there are many people who are not aware what is right and wrong. One sees how a person been treated at home. Some of the books and programs guides it wrongly. The fundamental change needs to come from education system and awareness. In country like sweden both men and women are equal in chores and earning, raising the kids. At least the same template can be tried. Moreover the law and investigations needs to be integrated with technology. Like body language anslysis and not just with words, when there is no fear and one could get out of the crime i dont get how law and order be acheived. Its been said punishment will be severe if victim dies. Ideally a punishment was to change a person by taking the psychology aspect a person needs to be released, but that doesnt happen. The permanent solution is to have an emphatetic people, respecting others boundaries, irrespective of caste and gender. Unless this happens the crime continues to happen. The reported issues are few, the missing cases and unreported cases will be more. This is something needs to be addresed by considering psychology aspect, if it needs to be controlled in coming days. Good choice of book well presented ma.

Nailed it 🔥☺️. According to those people everything lies in women's virginity. Surely need of the hour. Iam sure the writer would have a great research about the incidents. Victim blaming is a common factor we observe in our day to day life. The point is they're not worried about women's consent. If they're allowed to they would have chosen their partner wisely and the population wouldn't have increased like this 😮😢. When I was small i didn't know the difference between sex and rape. When i came to know that I was really shocked. The patriarchy has made us talk about women as a property and scold someone using the words mentioning female parts. As u said in cities they atleast know that's a crime so many cases are reported then what about the villages..even in animals the females are taking their own decisions. The males have written everything in the name of religious text which should be followed by women and they're are made to without realising that they don't have freedom to take their decisions on their own and should listen to males. The absence of women in history is man-made. Let's see part 2

Is there any other reason for men to hate independent women, even I have seen young boys specifically those under 18 have thoughts of sexism without knowing as that is dominating mind Women should get permission from their Father, Brother, Boyfriend (Lover), Husband and Husband's parents and so on. When that boy child grows up and becomes a Husband or a Father just think the same mindset of men will continue to the next generations too. Still, try to tell them that it's not okay and that girl only has the right to decide her life, but I have no idea whether they get that into their mind.

Feminism could grow if REAL FEMINISTS call out B.S. of pseudo / fake feminists. When feminists don’t do that, obviously affected people get angry because feminists are allowing it to happen, without questioning it.

In my point of view, why doesn't a society, a government, a country shouldn't make it a compulsion to make mental health checkup compulsory? We have various fitness tests and medical examination for jobs and education admissions etc. India has seen many criminal cases like Rape, Murder, Pocso, Molestation, Abuses, etc And most offenders are escaping with a medical certificate which is unacceptable. irrespective of gender, Mentally unfit citizens should not be allowed to roam freely in society. After the crime , diagnosing mental illness is injustice.
Secondly, once the crime is proven based on witnesses and evidences , then the capital punishment should be implemented for Rape Murder Molestation Abuse etc similar offenders, in the hands of the family members compulsorily. (offender's and criminal's family members )

all these problems are because of not taking care of their mental health, parents not knowing how to bring up a child with a healthy mind, and also pornography industry, also how a human being is so obsessed with sex way too much. When they look at a person, they should know to look at a person beyond their looks, looking and understanding their feelings, thoughts, basic respect to another human being should be taught at a very young age. Even a child should never be forced to do things. Respect others choices is so important. we need to transform as a society in general. Women's breast is not even a sexual object, it was marketed to be that way. Only the genetalia are for procreation. Breasts are just to feed a child. but it was so overhyped up and an entire industry thrives on it and all men think way too much about it. If you look in ancient India women's breast were never covered, thanks to britishers that changed. in fact if everything is open, no one cares about it. Since you start hiding, then show little is teasing unnecessarily. unfortunately we as. asociety has moved far way from it and can't go back. think about it. no animal is clothed, there is no rape there. but what we can realize is its just the body. no big deal. talking unnecessarily about sex is carrying it in the mind unnecessarily. but the entire marketing of movies, advertisements, shows, talks with friends keeps highlighting those which is sad. if a group of guy friends get together this shouldn't be the topic of sex but sadly it is in wrong ways.

Mam, Recently I came to know about a truth that the sexual desire of men or sexual drive of men is higher than that of women... Would you please explain the reasons(biologically and psychologically) for this truth? So that the view of men over women may be changed... If possible do it by your free time and by your interest...

People should walk freely just as Ghandi dreamed. People should without fear face their fear or problems. Speak feom heart what they want without hesitate. I'll make that somehow.
