Maybe I just don’t like slashers.
Thats not Kobeni. Kobeni panic attack would have her cry even uglier and then when Pumpkin Night shows up, she's just slashing her effortlessly into pieces with a kitchen knife. S-Tier Anime fighter, probably could fight the united Ninja Alliance Army from Naruto all by her own without relying on cheap OP gimmicks like Edo Tensei immortality and Rinnegan that C-Tier cucks such as Madara rely on. She's S-Tier just by pure fighting skill and dumb miserable luck.
To be fair, I read a translation of this that was pretty funny. I think this manga is better treated as horror comedy than as anything serious
The only horror manga I really enjoy are oshimi shuzo manga (e.g. Happiness, Drifting Net Cafe, Devil Ecstacy, ect.) Of course I have some other exceptions, but oshimi shuzo's the GOAT for me

Never in my life I would have expected to hear about a slasher manga featuring Naruto, his dad, Donald Trump, saying "what in Hilary's emails!" and a femboy who says "you looking at my bussy, player..."
I read this comment before I got to any if that in the video and I still wasn't ready

This is unironcally the most accurate depiction of this manga
I remember reading the translations of this as it came out and the political can of worms shitstorm down in the comment section after Naruto's dad was introduced, certain people where very very very triggered by it. I haven't seen vitriol like that since all those people where screaming at that brainwashed child soldier Gabi from attack on Titan to get wrecked.

It's so bad it's good type manga, and reading it with the fan translations just add to the funny aspect, that's why I loved it.
Not really the fan translation was just really racist and damn near unreadable.
It's a Ghost Stories situation. Unfortunately, Chillock stopped translating a while ago. Without the gag translations it's just meh now.

In the defense of the girl who ran off, she was most likely in a panicked state. The trope of people making bad decisions when they're scared is actually accurate to real life. When you're over run with fear, you panic and can't think straight.
If you want to cleanse your pallet from this bad horror manga, I'd recommend 'Ibitsu'.

Holy snap, I love Ibitsu. It's on my bookshelf and I haven't read it in a while, but I still love the antagonist's design and how she goes about hunting for her victims.
i absolutely love how the author writes his stories, it reminds me of old 80s horror movies at the start and suddenly become a american action movie half way through...

The fact that this manga references so many horror movies combined with a hilariously bad fan translation made it unironically good. The latest chapters feel like James Cameron helped write them in that there's going to be this grand finale ending with action and explosions .

I remember seeing the art blow up and people recommend it for shock factor. I am so glad I didn't read it because anything that gives me future diary vibes is an immediate drop.

It's got killer schoolgirls, it's got Donald Trump, it's got a femboy hacker.
It has everything in a manga that I never asked for. 10/10

I read this manga a couple years ago, I found it mindless and fun since I was really into stupid gorey horror but I dropped it when the translation started the get like actually bigoted and gross
Same, I was very confused and thought it was a translation error or trolling at first. Found out through some other readers that wasn't the case. It's a shame since the artwork is pretty decent.

@@dartoneyi read up to the part where kazuya becomes pumpkin night and around those chapters the scanlator put memes of george floyd dying and kazuya saying trans lives dont matter. I also remember donald trump saying the n word at some point
after almost 15 issues, that translation stopped (thanks God), now is a normal translation
To be fair, I think this series is just more niche than actually bad. If you like over the top camp horror movies then you’ll probably like it, but you probably won’t if they’re not your thing. I’m personally pretty fond of this series but that makes sense considering how some of my fav movies are Repo! The Genetic Opera and Re-Animator lol
The series reminds me of something that would be made by Lloyd Kauffman and troma entertainment.
I enjoy the series as a guilty pleasure because I love stupid, over the top, campy shit
Nah, it's definitely written like garbage. The author clearly doesnt care about nuances, consistencies or themes. You can argue that terribly written stories can still be enjoyable but in no way can you argue that Pumpkin Night isnt written like a heap of shit.
Dunno if this is a coincidence or not, but Kazuya’s pumpkin head is eerily similar to the design of the Phantom’s mask from the Phantom of the Paradise, down to the beak-shape, one fucked-up eye, and black lips. I just think it’s funny considering the design is one of the only things you complimented lol

I see it as an 80's slasher with over the top gore and mindless fun and slapstick
I must've read a different fan translation because the last thing I read from it was Kazuya finishing the killings, and _maybe_ getting back together with Naoko? I feel like that panel you showed in that part is familiar, unless you plucked it from earlier in the manga. Anyway, I think that would've been the perfect place to end it, Naoko's mission gets finished by her former friend/crush. I didn't know it was still ongoing!
One part I remember that was kinda chilling to me, or at least sticks out to me was how, when Kazuya was chasing down Naruto as the Pumpkin Knight, it happened to be Halloween, so he ran through a crowd full of costumed people celebrating. He begged people to help him, call the cops, something, but nobody believed him, thinking it was some sort of performance. I don't think Kazuya was covered in blood or anything yet, and if my memory's correct, he was even smiling and waving at people, which is partially why nobody believed Naruto was in danger.
Yeah, Kazuya was clean and adressing the fellow people acting as it was a playfyl act or a friendly chase lol
She is back now since part 2 and 3 we got new translations
If you read the right translation for Pumpkin Night then it reads like the manga version of Ghost Stories and that’s what makes it a masterpiece.

Its good, funniest manga ive ever read. "My husband was burned like a pop tart then he cut off my son's head and break danced on a roof!"
It's the most "turn your brain off" kind of manga. Pointing out issues like one of the characters separating from the group is kinda part of the fun tbh.

I would recommend this only if you enjoy reading bad things, love this series
WHAT?! I love this manga, and Yuki is one of my favorite characters. I'm sorry that the scanlation turns a lot of people off. It's one of the few stories where I don't mind the plot being so insane, it's pretty much all of the tropes in Slashers into one thing, and I love it.
If you want a different kind of pain, read Ai-Ren. In all seriousness this manga is a hidden gem of mine that nobody talks about. Very underrated. I would love to see you cover it in a video! Spoiler alert: You will most likely cry

pumpkin night is just a cheesy slasher in manga form, pretty entertaining imo. Haven't read it in a few years though lol

i actually remember reading this like 4/5 years ago(jesus time flies) and i remmeber just reading this out of morbid curiosity of how awful this could get, like for the longest time this became like a fever dream of a manga i remember reading

I enjoyed this manga very much, The story is kind of mid but I still have a good time reading it and that’s what just matter, I respect your opinions but I’ll still enjoy this manga. Sometimes not being a perfectionist is good sometimes because it makes you appreciate things while not having a mindset that everything must be good to your liking.

I'm not gonna lie, this is one of those manga that I like because of how bad it is. It feels like one of the low budget poorly made slasher/horror films that's done that way on purpose. The translations made me drop it cuz dude was trying to hard to be funny after a while. Also the story became something I could barely piece together because of a mix of the shitty translations and the meth the original author was on when he decided to go the direction he did with the 2nd part of the story.
tl'dr: i enjoyed it for what it was until i didnt lol
It got better Translations since then also on part 3 now it is world war iii
it has plot, art and characters. Truly one of the manga of all time
Couldn't help but notice that Kazuya's helmet/pumpkin head is inspired by The Phantom of the Paradise, which in turn inspired Griffith/Femto's helmet.

At the beginning it seems fun, it seems like a pretty good idea that is with a basic story. But then, as the story continues, it gets more bat shit crazy.

Anyways, the British is the highlight of the translations. I elect for every manga to have British translations from now on.
I also liked it up to the Kazuya and Naoko relationship thing, but after that It did kind of become just....just a bloodbath. The twist where Naoko disguised herself as Saki was actually good, imo.
I didn't read much after Naoko died, tbh. It didn't get boring, but....eh. I found Hajime no Ippo.

To be fair, we don't know anything about her parents at all and it looks like the school didn't really do anything which may have contributed to her snapping so horrifically

What I dislike most about the Horror genre is so many series that don’t have an actual narrative usually resort to shock over substance and as a result the disturbing factor increases overtime because all the series has going for it is one upping itself until it’s just gross. And I love the horror genre as a genre but when I see series like this or Juujika no rokunin, I question what the point is, there are so many Revenge stories that are gory and violent but never meet that gross point and have actual narrative points, yet we still get shit like this.
As for non Manga examples the worst thing I have ever seen is Crossed, just why, like why.

I like this manga but I do notice the problem, it’s like that ghost-face in those funny slasher flicks. But I don’t look at this manga for the story, I mostly enjoy for the art and slasher gore. And use it as a base or reference for my own art.

Pumpkin Night was interesting but so weird and hard to read and the fan translators where I read it were highly racist, homophobic and transphobic. Where even the group went out of their way and called a cosplayer a monkey and showed them online which was fucked up
Oh yeah, I read this long ago. The online translations have some heavy euro-english slang. "This Bobber will do the Jobber." It was hilarious.

I read this manga years ago,gotta admit I did like reading the first part of pumpkin night mainly for the art and well hey it was a fun read,later on the manga gets worse and I dropped it
I like it :( I started reading it when I was just starting with manga and it had like 10 chaps out, so maybe it's just that I have a soft spot for it
Yo Masked I don’t know if you’re into Light Novels or whatnot but I’d recommend ReZero if you haven’t watched it already. It’s an isekai with, in the best way I can describe it, Seinen elements to it. Its already got an anime with 2 seasons but I’d recommend to read the novels since the anime cuts out some important details. I think it’s a misunderstood series and think you’ll appreciate the story and whatnot. It’s one of the best series I’ve actually read and it’s still ongoing.

Based recommendation, Re:Zero is my favorite series of all time. I think he would like it if he got into it even if he doesn't really read light novels. It's just too good. If he gets to arc 6 I can totally see it getting up to his top 10 or even top 5 series.
being real for a second, i actually liked pumpkin night when it first started, but when the doctor or mental hospital arc thing started i knew it was time to go. it just got boring after that. the story had potential it’s just the creator didn’t really know where to put it.

I actually enjoy the manga because I went into it for the gore and seeing the kills, the silliness and absurdity was just a bonus. I will say though that it surprises me that you don’t know about the genre of scanlations where they purposefully make it absurdly British. From my understanding it’s usually done on manga like Pumpkin Night where readers may not find the original content enjoyable even with the absurdity of what’s happening. I think Island of Giant Insects is worse than this (I’m only reading to see the kills and the absurd ways they get out of the situation) but there are a lot of not TH-cam friendly scenes.
Atp I want to re-translate this series because I feel like if it weren’t for the English translation I would’ve enjoyed it much more

I did like this manga for mindless entertainment, but the jabs a Trumf, are such a strange and off putting sight, coming from all things, Japanese comic books. Although it is just Pumpkin Night and Death Note, are the only ones I’ve seen done that, it’s still so wacky
