Blade of the Immortal, what an incredible story. Not only phenomenal art but an incredible cast, Kagehisa is one of the most underrated antagonists in all of animanga
Funny enough I was enjoying the sequel even more, it takes place 90 years after during the Bakkumatsu period. Unfortunately there are no more translated chapters. I hope it gets more recognition and we get the english release since it's ending this month with 10 volumes total.
I love Blade of the Immortal and I'm glad that you're talking about it because this series definitely needs it. Gotta thank you for also addressing the comparisons with other seinens, especially Vagabond, because I've never understood why they were made in the first place. P.S : "Big Balls" was still a good fit for a character like Manji.
Ah, great to see some love for Blade of the Immortal. I read it a few years ago and it has stuck with me since, one of the best manga I have read. Glad to see a big channel shining more light on it. Now if only there was a faithful anime adaptation.

I just want to say how integral your videos have been to the development of my reading comprehension. I became a better reader and writer thanks in large part to anime/manga-based analytical TH-camrs like yourself. Thank you very much for the hard work over the years, this video is especially good 👍👍
Blade of the Immortal was one of the first manga I fell in love with, and it took me forever to eventually finish. Now I’ve read through it 2-3 times. Always a great read.
I’ve been reading blade of the immortal for 7 days. I’m on chapter 142…. Absolutely amazing manga. I think in the beginning it’s a bit boring (the first 3-5 chapters), but overtime it gets better and better. Amazing underrated manga
The GOAT ,Lone Wolf and Cub is great but it’s great in a different way from blade of the immortal ,Lone Wolf and Cub is way more historically accurate for obv reasons ,one is grounded and the other is not ,you get what I mean
Brother you are talking about the blade of the immortal and how did you forget Shira, he is a very respectful character, especially for girls and women
This was one of my first mangas I read when I started getting into reading more than watching anime and it is still one of my favorites and doesn't get enough recognition or people talking about it. I also believe it shows off many different martial arts well and shows how unique they can be as well as different weapons. Also props for showing how useful a sickle and chain is.
indeed, the fights are really good with those unique weapons along with its unique fighting style. I think Samura could have made the fights better but its understandable that it is not his main focus. I would love to see BOTI with the same fight choreography level as kengan ashura.
Can you check Ad Astra - Scipio and Hannibal, it's such a hidden gem, and considering the popularity of Kingdom, I think many people would love it if they knew about it
really funny how Ad Astra is not much well known. Imo, I think it is leauges above Kingdom. What I hate about Kingdom is Shin's massive plot armor, him beating Sachi with no fatal wounds was such an asspull. And even Him and his group beating full armored soldier while they are unarmored is just another blatant plot armor..
@@gutsglory3625 Another Ad Astra fan? Someone else who has read Ad Astra? What glitch in the matrix is this? You're not wrong. Ad Astra can't really have plot armour, since it's history illustrated. Also, Kingdom's latest arc barely had any war strategies and tactics, it was just a showcase of military power. I think I like Kingdom more bcs it's longer and I've grown more attached to it, but a friend that I introduced Ad Astra to, also liked it more than Kingdom
I read this manga immediately after catching up with Berserk back in the day. Spectrum Nexus recommended it. I just wanted another manga with a similar art style. Boy was a pleasantly surprised at how much more I got from this series.
I had a friend who was trying to get into manga and the first two series I told him about were this and Akumetsu: two weeks later he told me he can't ask me for recommendations anymore because he binged thru both of them and hadn't gone to class in that entire time lmao
00:41 "the name won't be mentioned" Uhm sorry we are talking about one of my BELOVED series right there 😤 Besides that, the art and paneling look absolutely stunning! I'll give this a go soon
Currently reading this (Volume 21 atm) and am blown away by it. Manji and Rin are such great protagonists and their chemistry is so awesome and sweet. The side characters are god tier. Amazing art, story and action. Really one of the most underrated Seinens. It's been long since i have been so emotionally attatched to a series. I have heard that the ending is very bittersweet, so i'll have to emotionally prepare for that lmao. Legit my ONLY criticism is that the Prison Arc drags a bit in the middle, but the last quarter more than makes up for it. Edit: Concerning Chapter 0. I advise new readers to read the manga like this: Chapter 1 - 2 - 0 - Rest like normal. Chapter 0 is a bit weird and i think Manji and the old ladies introduction was handled way better in chapter 1. It also makes for a better reading experience not knowing Manjis backstory until he mentions it at the end of chapter 2 imo. Edit 2: Just finished it. One of the best manga ever. Shame that the sequel series hasn't been fully translated yet.
Blade of the Immortal was the first manga I ever bought. It blew my mind with the art and story. I have mixed feelings about the mangaka's other works. His art is gorgeous but he has a sadistic side expecially tords women. Blade of the Immortal shows some signs of this expecially in the later parts of the story. That being said Blade of the Immortal will always hold a place in my heart. I love seeing someone talk about it.
Glad to see somebody finally talk about this Manga. There are hardly any videos about this series on TH-cam. The series also has one of the most underrated antagonists. Plus the 2019 adaptation isnt really all that bad.
This is on my list to read. I’m currently reading levius then will be on levius est. I highly recommend people to read this amazing manga. (Read left to right for this)
One of the BEST! Shira is one of the best and most despicable villains ever. Manji is such a badass. The whole end half is a hell of a stretch Hype moments. Great artwork. Excellent atmosphere. Good philosophy. Superb work bros!

Truly a masterpiece, I highly suggest ya'll read the sequel "Blade of the Immortal: Bakumatsu Arc" the only thing I don't like about it is it's too short with the series condensed in to 50+ chapters. It still had the bloody action scenes, great warriors etc. but maan was it short. I hope it gets a sequel with him guarding Rin's relative up to World War 2 or the recent day.
I've seen the newer adaptation of this manga. It's "GOOD" it jus has a bit of an issue in the fact that it doesn't have enough eps to cover the ENTIRE manga so it truncates a bunch but it's still enjoyable in its own right & the production & directin is incredibly solid the entire way through. If it had more eps it'd be "great" but I'd still say watch it
Wild I just started watching the anime for this on a whim on amazon prime. Im liking it so far but it’s missing a lot based on what you showed and said! Gotta read it now
I found BotI from a local library when I was 14. it still remains as one of my favourites.. But I should add some content warnings.. while some amount of violence is to be expected in this kinda story, it should also be mentioned that Samura has a penchant for unbeliaveble amounts of sadism as well.. One character spends almost a full volume getting viscerally tortured(and raped), Shira goes beyond evil with his cruelty towards the end and many, MANY deaths are quite awful. So if you're queasy about that kinda stuff, buyer beware etc..

Such a great story, starts off a bit weird but picks up as it goes and doesn't stop, with the climax being one of my favorites in manga Also, if you're a fan of Sekiro, Miyazaki is also known to be a fan of BotI, and it's interesting to read and spot potential inspirations as you go -- same with Dark Souls/Berserk, etc
Keep in mind that only the american version of Blade (the only one you can find scans for online) is read left to right, almost everywhere else it's right to left
