I remember the Ambassador. Roger and I used to enjoy a drink there looking out over the sea. I think we ate there on one or two special occasions. It was such fun to order an Irish coffee because they made such a song and a dance making it right in front of you, setting fire to the glass and all! We once had an evening picnic on the rocks at Bantry Bay, its so nice to see the sun go down over the sea! But we had to pack it in as we got pestered by some undesirables. On the night Roger proposed to me we went for a midnight swim at Clifton 4th beach. Magic! Camps Bay we used to go dance at Dizzy's. And have decadent ice cream at Sinnful. And being rather naughty we paid a few visits to Sandy Bay. It is always packed there, even out of season. High density of people and not a lot of road. We always parked in a back street and walked down to the beach. Thank you for yet more happy memories
Sonia tells grand stories about the Ambassador-by-the-Sea Hotel, which I believe became the Ambassador Hotel. It must be the same place you visited because she also speaks about her and her colleagues having drinks by the windows and all they could hear were waves crashing on the rocks beneath and it was just ocean in front of them. Sounds spectacular! 🌊🤩 This stretch of coastline has even more memories for you and every place has something to remember it by, magic! On to the next places and I can't wait to hear the memories that come flooding back! 😁🚗
Hi you two! Thank you for taking me along on this beach trip. Blue seas, blue sky, white sand, happy people, rugged rocky mountains. Wonderful! The artwork displayed on the side of streets was also interesting - shows the kind of people of that part of my beloved country. Keep going! I can't wait for the next outing. And, Keep safe!
It was fantastic to have you along for this spectacular ride! The white sandy beach of Camps Bay was fantastic to experience again, I haven't felt the Camps Bay sand between my toes in many years! 🏖️ We always knew almost everywhere we went will be crazy busy during the festive season, but there was this electricity in the air which is not quite up to the same intensity during the rest of the year, so it was totally worth the traffic and the complete craziness! 🥳🚗 Let's see where the road took us next! 🤩
It seems that with each episode that we are provided with a little more insight into the two of you...Sonia reminiscing about Camps Bay, as being her first "port of entry" so to speak and of course her staying the Ambassador Hotel when she came down to the Cape on business. The hotel was redeveloped by a UAE based investor/developer into super upmarket apartments a few years ago. One cannot ignore the sheer splendor of Clifton, Camps Bay etc, the landscape, topography and the homes are incredible. I used to stay out there and work in Somerset West / Paardevlei. My office was close to the Cheetahs and at night their mesmerizing sounds created "music" like no other. The sea, on my return, at night, gulls in the morning and Cheetahs at night. Those were the days just like many a Vaalie probably recalls their Decembers on the South Coast at the "Gates", I have heard plenty of recollections...perhaps you'll be heading to that part of our country soon?
Super interesting about the Ambassor Hotel being redeveloped! Sonia says her recollection was that it was an absolutely stunning property with an unbeatable setting, so they clearly capitalised on that combination. 🏨🌊 Cheetahs and seagulls. 🐆🦆 And so we glean a little more insight ourselves. We also lived on the Atlantic Seaboard for a few years just after we got married and it was good to visit again, we don't do that often enough. You're indeed correct, the sheer spectacle which is this trilogy is admired from people all over the globe and so should we! It will be an emotional experience for Sonia to visit the Kwazulu-Natal South Coast again, but one that will most probably happen sometime this year, if she can pluck up the courage. She will see her late parents everywhere, having holidayed there with them from birth until her mid-twenties when we met and they relocated to the Western Cape. But it has to be done and it shall be! 🌊🚗
I just had to chuckle at your pebbly beach, which I'm sure is also beautiful in its own right. I can just hear the longing to put your feet on our white sandy beaches through the lines and I feel for you. 🇿🇦❣️
Now you lovely people are confusing us 🤣🤣🤣🤣. First beautiful small towns; now big tings like that scenic views I have just been watching. Wow, to think you have experienced it all; blessing is an understatement. Thanks for sharing. ❤❤
I think I'm confused now! 🤔 At the beginning of Episode 241 I specifically explained that we would also like to celebrate the festive season and Sonia's birthday with family and friends and will therefore travel closer to home, which is Strand. Sonia still wrote a poem for all our viewers and you still commented about the poem. 🤩 There's nothing that says we can't enjoy small towns and admire and enjoy the places closer to home as well. We love everything that is beautiful. But to put your mind at ease, we will soon hit the open road again and explore the smaller towns now that all our family and friends have returned home and life has returned to normal. In the meantime, enjoy the incredible natural beauty that we found within a 70km radius from where we live. 🚗😁
Hi guys amazing video 19 years ago I stayed in the president Hotel in Bantrey Bay with my wife last time in Cape Town very busy Clifton beach 12 apostles stunning camps Bay must be among the best beaches going everywhere so busy amazing properties brought back memories of my last time in South Africa thanks for the video cheerio till the next one
We stayed over at the President Hotel ourselves a time or two. What a magnificent establishment! 🤩🏨 I'm so glad that this specific video brought back special memories for you of your last visit to South Africa.😍🇿🇦 There are some pretty awesome properties in this part of the Peninsula! The white sand of the Camps Bay beach will always be very close to our hearts, we walked on that beach many times shortly after we got married and it's still as beautiful as ever. So glad you came along today! 😁🚗
Its just a crazy set up that He created, beautiful beaches with a background of the 12 Apostles! South Africans don’t know how blessed and lucky they are to have all this in their reach!
You're so right! Even the two of us don't get there often enough and it's not even an hour away from where we live in Strand. The Twelve Apostles were certainly an imposing sight as we drove into Camps Bay, we loved it too! ⛰️🥰
Hi me from the back seat again. Thank you for taking me on a nice Sunday drive like dad took us on back in the day. So nice to see the old and the new together. At 15:29 there is a building Zenzero that gives you the feeling on approach of a big riverboat. Ooooh it looks like we will be going in the right direction. Chapmans!!!!!! Crossing fingers and toes. In the meantime onwards travellers
Glad you enjoyed the drive! It was such a beautiful day and to see those three places again which we were so very familiar with at one point in our lives, was rather special. Traffic was hectic, it was crazy busy, but it was fantastic to feel the energy and the vibe again! 🥳🚗 Let's see if you're happy with where we were headed to next! 😁
Thanks for taking me down memory lane, the places are still the same but have changed a lot. Those granite rocks are unforgettable. By the way, your sound is now perfect, even Sonia singing Xanadu is not too bad 😊. And Sonia mentioned Margate, as a Vaalpens that was our holiday destination too. In the days when Dickie Loader and the Blue Jeans performed at the Palm Grove. We went to Cape Town once, the Suid-oos was blowing non-stop. My dad said nooit nooit weer.
Glad you like the sound, it's such a relief that it's sorted! Sonia forgot she has her own mic now and burst into the Olivia Newton-John number! 🤣🎤 We'd like to visit the South Coast of Kwazulu-Natal again one day, she has so many fond memories of holidays there with her parents. We've visited once or twice together, but that's a long time ago now. Interesting to hear that it was also your holiday spot. 🏖️ Thanks for joining us again today! 🚗😁
That sounds like a memorable trip indeed! 😊 It's a spectacular beach and I was happy to be able to walk on it again, for the first time in many years! 🏖️😎
Morning, you always made your trips so interesting, When I was in Cape town a year ago I went on the bus system hop on and off buses, they have a recording with lots of interesting snippets about the area. You said something about the left, there were 2 houses on this route that had lifts.
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the drive through this gorgeous stretch of coastline with us. We've often taken guests from upcountry and abroad on the sightseeing buses, but the current state of our four knees, won't manage so well with the hopping on and off anymore! 😏🚌 Yes, we were both still in our twenties when we saw those houses with the lifts for the first time and we thought it was something else! They became fairly commonplace in this part of the world afterwards though and I'm sure there are many houses who have them now. 🏘️😁
A lovely round about route from Capetown, via Camps Bay, Hout Bay and Kirstenbosch. Today 23 January 1653 Jan van Riebeeck wrote in his diary. "We was collecting wood at Hout Bay to build the Fort, at night we was harassed by the roaring of lions try to hunting our sheep in the kraal, we scared them of with musket guns" Great video
Glad you enjoyed this drive with us! 👌🏻 Such interesting info once again, thank you! How incredible that Jan van Riebeeck wrote this in his diary on almost the exact day our video of the area will go live! I'm still saddened that there are no more lions in the area and that buildings and humans have taken their place. All in the name of so-called progress! 🤷🏼♂️🦁
Oh, absolutely! 🤩 The beautiful Mother City will always have a special place in our hearts, but it's rather difficult filming in such a crazy busy environment. I hope you enjoyed the videos so far! 😍🚗
And this day was a prime example! By the time we had reached the next stop, it was overcast and one would never have said it was a bright, clear day when we started out in Sea Point that morning! 😁☁️
Wow those built up area's sure get me on edge give me those wide open spaces any time. You can see its holiday season with all the people on the beaches enjoying themselves. Its sure good to be young and able to enjoy those white sands. Thank you.
It was really crazy busy, but we wanted to experience that again and it was fantastic! 🥳 It was great to see everyone enjoying themselves in the ocean and on the beach. A real holiday vibe! 🌊🤩 Thanks for coming along to these magnificent places!
My friend and I went to Cape town by train from Johannesburg end of 1974, stayed in a little flatlet in Camps Bay by an elderly lady. We often went to the Clifton Hotel at night, it was like a club. Lots of navy guys and young people used to hang out there. Then there was the Rotunda in Camps Bay. They had concerts there and lots of parties. In those days it was much more down to earth and ordinary. There is no comparison to these places today. The wealthy etc have almost completely taken over.
What amazing memories you have of your holiday in Camps Bay! Those were the days, it sounds like! Sonia knew Camps Bay long before I did and she agrees with you. She rented a room in another elderly lady's house and she says although she was this bright-eyed and bushy-tailed young lady and rather intimidated by leaving her parental home for the first time and moving to another province all at the same time, she found everyone to be extremely warm, welcoming and down-to-earth with no pretense whatsoever. Ordinary is a good word. Because of its incredible natural setting, it was an extraordinary place, but the people were still ordinary like you and I. Those days are long gone, I think, for the most part. Fortunately the beauty has remained in all its glory and we have to hang on to that! 🤩🌊
Glad you're enjoying the beauty of the Cape Peninsula! 🌊🤩 Kwazulu-Natal is very far away from home and a lot of planning will be involved since we'll have to fly and drive, but we certainly hope to get there later this year. We absolutely love the province and haven't been there in a long time, so look forward to that very much! 😁🚗
You must've missed Episode 241, where I specifically explained at the start of the video that our travel week this time fell into the festive season and Sonia's birthday was also that week, so we wanted to remain close to home to celebrate with family and friends. 🥳 We'll be hitting the long road again one of these days, but until those videos go live, you'll have to enjoy the incredible beauty of the Cape Peninsula and surrounds with us. 😁🚗
😁 Now that we have a working mic system again, I wanted to keep as much of the original sound as I possibly could. Don't you worry, the guitar music will never be far away, especially when we hit the gravel roads and small towns again! 🚗🎸
The early pioneers of the VOC errected four "outposts" with cannon's to protect the Cape of Good Hope against incoming enemy, another one was at Vals Bay and also next to the Liesbeeck River (Mowbray)
I can't remember seeing the cannons at Camps Bay when we lived in the area long ago, but could've forgotten. We weren't so into cannons back then I suppose, so could've missed them! 🤷🏼♂️💣 Thanks for the info! 👍🏻
This was on a Tuesday, but as I mentioned at the start of this series in Episode 241, we felt like celebrating with friends and family, so it was no problem sitting in traffic. It was worth it visiting Bantry Bay, Clifton and Camps Bay again during the wildness of the festive season. We haven't done it in a very long time! 🥳🚗
True story, We had a birthday bash at the Ambassador in November 1980. I (birthday boy) was sitting at the head of the table on the ocean side. At one point I felt too warm and I opened the large window behind my seat that looks over the sea. Soon after, I had to go to the loo for a pee. When I returned, my wife was hysterical, and everybody was looking out the window for my body!
Your wife must've been both relieved and livid with you for not telling her you were going to the gents! 😨 I never knew the Ambassador, but Sonia says she remembers those large windows well and if you had fallen out there, it would've been more like a dive right into the ocean! Thank you for sharing this memory with us, I'm sure your whole family still talks about that day! 🌊😁
You showed us these lovely beaches, BUT neglected to inform us that the sea water is freezing cold ! My last 'kuier' at Camps Bay, we went by motorcycle because of the traffic and parking. Much easier !
I knew it was only a matter of time until you mention something we missed! 😁 Our videos aren't intended as a travel guide for tourists. We document our experiences in our videos and share them with those who may enjoy watching them. We had zero intention of swimming that day, so didn't even think about the temperature of the water. 🥶 I last owned a bike more than 30 years ago and don't intend to acquire one again, so we'll sit in traffic if that's what it takes to experience the vibe over the festive season. It was a fantastic drive! 🤩🚗
When did you make this video? I know it says a year ago, but when did you record? Thanks - just trying to ascertain if it'll be busy when we plan to visit.
Beautiful, beautiful but I have to admit, I miss the quick stops at the old church buildings or other interesting old stuff. However, I can understand why you cannot just stop to take pictures of the canons along the road! Unfortunately, exploring the rest of South Africa will take you further away from home, like when you visited the southern Free State.
We always knew this series of videos was going to be different from any we've done before and that's why I specifically explained it at the beginning of Episode 241. We also wanted to be close to home to celebrate the festive season and Sonia's birthday with family and friends. 🥳 The natural beauty in this 70km radius from where we live has to be celebrated too and we were so happy that we rediscovered it and are now able to share it with everyone who may also love and enjoy it. The churches and the cannons in the smaller towns aren't going anywhere and will still be there next month when we hit the open road again. Until then, the craziness and the traffic amidst the incredible beauty of all the places we visited locally, will have to satisfy your travelling appetite! 😁🚗
There is only one thing that beats your scenic drive with your Renault and that is y maxi-scooter, leaning in the bends screaming past all the other vehicles in funeral-gear…
🤣 You forget that we also drive in funeral gear, it's just that you can weave in and out of the traffic while we can't! My bike days are over now though, I'll leave that for you. I'll sit patiently in the Kwiddie and wait. 😁🚗 Luckily there was crazy beautiful scenery to make the crawl more bearable!
Thank you for your kind offer. 😊 We've heard from a few viewers out in your part of the world and your area is definitely on our list of places yet to be explored. The names of the places in the Langkloof sound like they belong in a novel. I can't think of them all now, but Avontuur and Louterwater come to mind for some reason. 😁🚗
Cliffton beach👌👌👌👌👌💕
Yup, it's not world famous for nothing! 😁⛱️
Excellent sound quality with the new microphone. I enjoy the trip this morning thanks. Have a great day...
Thank you so much, I appreciate that! It's such a relief to have working sound again! 🎤 Glad you enjoyed the drive! 😁🚗
Hi you two! Thank you for taking me along on this beach trip.

YES Sonja, that is a good voice you have there!
Thank you, I shall most certainly convey the message! 🥰🎤
Ohhhhh Camps Bay👌👌👌👌❤️💕
White sandy beach vs our Brown pebbly Brighton beach…….No comparison at all,,, simply can’t compare!!!!
I just had to chuckle at your pebbly beach, which I'm sure is also beautiful in its own right. I can just hear the longing to put your feet on our white sandy beaches through the lines and I feel for you. 🇿🇦❣️

Thanks again, stunning trip, I have renamed you, your aka is " King of the roads"
I'm so happy to hear you enjoyed this drive, we had an absolute ball! I shall take that title, thank you very much! 🤣🛣️
So nice - thanks a million!
Yhoooooo is very nice oooo🎊🎉
It makes me happy to hear that our videos can bring you so much joy! Thank you! 😁🚗
Hi me from the back seat again. Thank you for taking me on a nice Sunday drive like dad took us on back in the day. So nice to see the old and the new together. At 15:29 there is a building Zenzero that gives you the feeling on approach of a big riverboat.

That sounds like a memorable trip indeed! 😊 It's a spectacular beach and I was happy to be able to walk on it again, for the first time in many years! 🏖️😎
Thank you, guys! 🤗
This was awesome 👌
Absolutely Awesome! ❤❤❤

I didn't know we(Cape Town) were noticed🥰
Oh, absolutely! 🤩 The beautiful Mother City will always have a special place in our hearts, but it's rather difficult filming in such a crazy busy environment. I hope you enjoyed the videos so far! 😍🚗
@@DustBugsTravel yes I did, I loved it😁😍!!!
Btw The filming was amazing
Ek is van Nederland en dit bring vir my ook herinneringe terug. Kaapstad en sy omgewing het my hart gesteel
You mentioned the Ambassador hotel right as you drove past it. It is now Arum Apartments.
Sonia thought that we were in the right area, but she hasn't been there in many years, so wasn't 100% sure. Thanks for the clarification! 👌🏻🏨
Sudden change in weather!!!! Sunny to cloudy or even rain! That right there is why I call Cape Town little England😅
And this day was a prime example! By the time we had reached the next stop, it was overcast and one would never have said it was a bright, clear day when we started out in Sea Point that morning! 😁☁️

Your videos of Cape Town are great, but I prefer the dorpies and the gravel roads. Not a complaint, just my humble opinion.
You two lovely people create memories and awake nostalgia. Where is the guitarists music?
😁 Now that we have a working mic system again, I wanted to keep as much of the original sound as I possibly could. Don't you worry, the guitar music will never be far away, especially when we hit the gravel roads and small towns again! 🚗🎸

Here’s to hope that things will not deteriorate due to the current economical/social/political environment 😢 May beauty abound!!!!
I echo your hope for this beautiful country! 🇿🇦
This video was filmed on 3 January 2023. 🚙⛱️.
@@DustBugsTravel thanks, we plan for Feb
We live in the Langkloof area.Send us a e mail when in the Eden district so as that we can show you guys the best kept secret in RSA.
Once you arrive in Avontuur let us know.Or as you head that way .We make the best Espresso on this planet and any other.
