    Visited the Strand the first time end 1976 after finishing school and again in 2017.....was completely overwhelmed by the development especially on the water fromt

      Yes, I can believe that. You're talking about a gap of 41 years between visits! I've seen some old pics of Strand and I often struggle to believe it's the same place. It's high time you visit again! 🚗🌊

    Hi you two!
    What a wonderful trip along this unique beach, thank you! It is not for nothing that the town is called Strand. As Sonia rightly said, it must be one of, if not the, largest beaches on our coasts. I must admit that I'm a bit jealous of you living there. Your drone views were stunning with the music adding even more. The design of the modern buildings we saw, was fascinating.
    Nothing lacking on this trip: blue skies, blue sea, white beaches and dunes, mountains and the pleasant greenery at the golf course.
    I am happy for you that you two could at last, after your Cape trips, enjoy a drink with a beautiful sunset on the beach.
    Looking forward to you continuing this great program.
    Have a good rest and
    Keep safe!

      Thank you for accompanying us on these outings around the Peninsula and surrounds, it was an experience we'll be forever grateful for and we fell in love with the area all over again! We are indeed blessed and fortunate to live here! 😍🚗 You listed everything that Strand has to offer nicely, it really is a wonderful place! I'm extra happy to hear that you enjoyed the drone footage, the music and the sunset, it was spectacular! 🌅 We got enough rest, but got lazy quickly, so you'll soon see where we were headed to next! 😁🇿🇦 You can also look forward to those long-awaited cuppas, might I add!

    I thoroughly enjoyed these episodes around Cape Town and the wine country around the Western Cape - my favourites

    My home for a year, until end 2018. Lived just off Beach road, near the Caltex garage. You make me lekker lus for those Belgian Waffles. Although, I did go there in December or maybe late November. That Ice Cream place next to the Belgian Waffles is probably my favourite of that group that are dotted along the Strand coast.
    I do think it is the best beach in the Western Cape - not my favourite, that would be Fish Hoek - because of Jagger's Walk. When I tell people I meet about Strand, that whoever named the place, did a good job. "Die Strand" in Afrikaans (or Dutch) - "The Beach" in English. It does have the best of all the more popular beaches in Cape Town. Seaside Restaurants (Camps Bay), Pavilion (Sea Point), Walkway, Putt Putt, Surf (Muizenberg), Kite surfing (Blouberg), Fishing, Sand Dunes, Safe, Family Friendly (Fish Hoek), Swimming is safe (though I'm not sure I have swum there so not completely sure of backcurrent). You name it. All on a much smaller scale than the more popular beaches.
    You hundred percent right about those winter days too.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      That must've been a happy year you spent here! 😁 Thank you for mentioning some of your favourite places for a nibble and for highlighing the long list of what Strand has to offer, it really is a stunning place. I found the bits you took from the other places very interesting, so what we always thought was true. We have the best of every place right here at home! 🚗🌊 I don't swim in the ocean often, but I do believe that rip currents are an ever-present threat to swimmers in False Bay. 😨 Thank you for tagging along on these drives around the Peninsula and surrounds, it was fun hearing your thoughts about the different places!

    • @BrendonSchaferCT
      @BrendonSchaferCT ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DustBugsTravel I was taken out by a current at Kleinmond once. But I am (was) a decent and fit swimmer and knew what to do. So no harm done at all.
      I know the currents between say Sunrise beach and Monwabisi are bad. I'm unsure about Strand specifically.
      Gordon's Bay I know has no issue.

    Aha! Now we see where you guys live. Strand reminds me a lot of Tableview where I lived for a few years. With overtones of Sea Point. You re fortunate to live in such a beautiful area. "Strand is no stranger to wind"...said as you passed a tree absolutely buckled from the force of many a gale!! Was that planned or coincidence? I do love an outdoor gym! Its way better than the smelly indoor ones that are jostling with people fighting for the equipment. And its free! There is no reason not to be fit trim and healthy in Strand!

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      😁 I thought the timing of Sonia's comment about the wind was quite apt with the poor tree illustrating the point perfectly! 🌳 Very little is ever planned on our channel, so that was pure coincidence! She was driving that day and she didn't notice the tree until I played the clip back to her! Fit and trim and healthy in Strand. I like the sound of that. Sonia and I better set off to Dune Park this very second! 🤸🏻‍♀️🌊 We so loved having you come along on these outings closer to home and reading how each place holds a special memory for you.

    Hi guys agree with Sonia beautiful beach the love the old the flea market the metal stalls I used when l did market trading amazing promenade immaculate drone footage stunning. The white sand is so inviting nice and quiet just how I like it the difference when busy crazy love the dune Park golf course top class the blocks of apartments have Spanish vibe to me well done to the building preservation like the boat building the Belgian waffle shop tasty .Sun set beautiful there's a few strands in the UK and one I've been to in Belgium but this tops the lot .myself and my wife when I used to smoke would go through the channel turn left 40k Belgium border and buy cigarettes in a small towns adinkerk on the way we would have waffles along near strand in Belgium thanks for a great video cheerio till the next one

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I thought it would be good to show what Strand looks like busy versus quieter, it's quite a contrast! I didn't film in December when it was even crazier on the beach and on Beach Road! 😁🏖️ How cool to read that you've had Belgian waffles in Belgium! These in Strand taste pretty good too. Fluffy and soft and now I'm getting hungry! 🥞 I'm glad you enjoyed the sunset too, it was so peaceful on the beach and a very fitting way to end off our local series. The sunsets are spectacular here in Strand, we often look at them out of a window. We plan to go down to the beach more often and take it all in properly! 🌅 We appreciate you hopping on board for these outings in and around Cape Town. As always, it was great to hear your thoughts and read how it reminded you of your own experiences in our beautiful country!

    What an incredible episode, your drone shots showcasing a totally brand new perspective on viewing the Strand. I saw that chap's stunning sand sculptures the other day as we always swim at that beach. I have to agree there is no beach like the Strand Beach, however one must follow the lifesavers instructions and its best to swim where they are. I saved a little boy a few years ago who didn't want to listen, he was too far out and was then taken under by a wave. Those dunes, where you walked, was our home many times in our yesteryears. Hibernian towers an incredible building. Die Melkbaai is still a firm favorite though. I visited that penthouse in "Ocean View" , it has incredible 360 degree views. You're very fortunate to call Strand your home. The closing scene with your 2 chairs on the beach is priceless in every aspect and I suppose perhaps the best marketing of Strand ever seen. It captures so much. The food looked great at the waffle place. 'N Ice is another Strand institution, a heavy hand with their servings and a strong hand is required to hold the cone packed with ice-cream. Great value for money. Barts...another great institution.

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @funk dunk I often look at the ocean and think to myself how beautiful and harmless it looks, but that's so not the case. Over the Festive Season, ambulance sirens became too frequent a sound and we always wonder if someone got into trouble while swimming. So I agree, swim where there are lifesavers, they're there for a reason. Good on you for coming to the rescue of the little boy, it could've turned out very differently. 😨 Thank you for highlighting some special buildings and places in Strand. We steered clear of singling out any particular one, other than The Belgian Waffle House where we had lunch, for fear of offending some of our neighbours and fellow residents. It was fantastic to film on Beach Road, but also difficult being so incredibly close to home. What a home though! 😍 Thank you for driving around the Peninsula and surrounds with us, it's been fun, as always!

    The lovely beautiful Strand. I have faint memories of somewhere in the late fifties early sixties our family came by train to the Strand and we picnicked under the old Pavilion. It was on massive columns and we had ample space in the shade. Years after that we camped in the Caravan park but I don not know if that exists any more..it is near thet Greenways estate, which is a beautiful place inside. But the wind can also blow in the Strand...If I remember correctly there was also the White House hotel on one of those corners in Beach road. but ja...we visited the Strand regularly in the years gone by...Thanx for showing us again

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Your memory of coming to Strand by train sounds very similar to some of the stories I've heard from my mom-in-law's side of the family! Sadly our station is no longer receiving any trains, but until about two years ago, people came to the beach by train in their droves. All sorted with tents, gazebos, mattresses, you name it! 😁🏖️ The Voortrekker Caravan Park still exists, you must've had fun there too. I always think it's great to camp so close to the beach! I just found a pic online of the White House Hotel, what a gorgeous building that was! It was indeed on a corner and it had a tower on the one side. Your memory serves you just perfectly! 🚗🌊 Thank you for taking these drives with us around our (and your) area, it was fun having you on the backseat!

    What a beautiful beach! I live in a little resort town on the shores of Lake Huron in Canada and it is the same thing during vacation season. Crazy busy for June, July and August. After the Labour Day weekend at the beginning of September, you could shoot a cannon down the main street.

      I can only imagine how crazy it must get where you live, such a beautiful area too! 😍 And then the calm afterwards. I enjoy both equally, but am glad that the ratio of calm versus crazy is what it is! 😁 We lived in the US for a number of years and I remember how super busy everything got in summer. We spent the majority of our time in South Florida, which has fantastic weather all the time, but even there one could feel the holiday vibe in summer more than any other time of year! 🌊🏖️

    It's also been my home town for the past 38 years! Seen many multistory monstrosities going up on the beachfront during this time, but that's how development works, doesn't it. Hopefully you didn't send the drone up during a howling south-easter, otherwise you'd had to go look for it in Fishhoek!! :)

      Hello neighbour! Wowzer! You've lived here for a long, long time! You must've seen each one of those buildings go up on Beach Road, that must've been quite a sight to see the landscape change in front of your eyes. I'm all for development and progress, as long as nature and all the living organisms that depend on it for survival, isn't compromised. Therein lies my difficulty with development. 🤷🏼‍♂️ I made a few attempts with the drone on really hectic days over the festive season but wasn't successful. One reason was the wind and another the youngsters' keen interest in the drone, so I wasn't able to pay the attention that I still need to as a fairly new drone pilot. 😁

    “We saved the best for last”. Oef Curtis je liet me even schrikken aan het begin van deze video, het laatste filmpje van DustBugs? Maar gelukkig, aan het einde verscheen het vertrouwde “see you in the next episode” 😅. Ben benieuwd waar naartoe jullie ons verder mee ‘op reis’ nemen door het prachtige Zuid Afrika.

    Stunning, thanks once again, must admit I love holiday season when our city is packed with holiday makers, just an awesome vibe, also nice when they return home though . Do the vendors @ the flea market sleep over or do a daily pack up ? You guys are super stars

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      We're exactly the same! We love it when the holidaymakers are around, but also appreciate the quieter times. That's all part-and-parcel of living in a holiday town! 🏖️ The vendors at the market pack up their entire operations each evening and wheel it all away on big carts. The route they take, is through quite a narrow street right next to a pizza shop, so they have to do some nifty navigating to get where they're going. 😳 Thank you for tagging along to the beautiful places close to our hometown, it was fun having you on board! 🚗🌊

    We watched this over lunch today and it brought back good memories! The jetty was still fully functional when I was at Lochnerhof; pity that they're not restoring it! Are there still so many seagulls at the end of the beach (last time I was there it was fenced off and the area was sometimes used to test explosives).

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our hometown! 😍 I'm glad you were reminded of good times! There are still plenty of seagulls on the beach, which is fantastic! During lockdown in 2020 they briefly got the beach back all to themselves and there wasn't a single human being in sight! 🦆🌊

    • @kosherchessandphotography4139
      @kosherchessandphotography4139 ปีที่แล้ว

      WOW! Do you have any footage of that? I'm big time into birding and often go out to photograph birds here in Hong Kong. Hopefully, I can get some action shots of the seagulls in Nov!@@DustBugsTravel

      I have a few stills, but they were far away and, since I was also not allowed closer, I didn't take any video footage. 🤷🏻‍♂️ I'm not sure I would've disturbed them either, they were having a ball! 😎

    CORRECT ME IF I'M WRONG PLEASE BUT I SEEM TO REMEMBER THE PAVILLION BEING BUILT IN THE. 1960 OR 1970. MY HUSBAND AND I MOVED TO JHB A MONTH OR TWO AFTER WE GOT MARRIED AND LIVED THERE FOR 3 YRS, WHEN WE MOVED BACK TO CAPE TOWN WE WERE PLEASENTLY SIRPRISED TO SEE THE NEW BUILDING IN THE STRAND. WAS A BEAUTIFUL BUILDING. BD

    • @DustBugsTravel
      @DustBugsTravel  11 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I think the first Pavilion was built way before then already. The earliest aerial photo I've seen with the Pavilion on, dates back to 1951. My mom-in-law spoke about the Pavilion in Strand when they came on holiday in their younger years, but I'm not sure when it was first built. Perhaps it was modernised around the time you remember. 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Goeie dag, dankie vir die oulike en mooi videos, dit bring kinderjare se herinneringe weer op... seker 'n dom vraag, maar bestaan die voortrekker karavaan park nog? Ons het elke jaar daar gekamp van 1985 tot 2000 in die goeie ou kinderjare...
