Fans complained that Season 1 Picard was a copy-pasta of one or two Federation ships. By Season 3 of Picard, the design and SFX teams had virtually brought back as many old ships as possible and practically canonized Star Trek Online's entire fleet roster all at once. That's awesome. 🙂
Such a huge rush of nostalgiia when I saw our TNG crew back on the bridge of the Enterprise D, made my geek heart very happy. And Riker commenting "I missed that voice" when we hear the D's computer was a lovely little touch, and a nice way to include the late Majel Barret Rodenberry
The way D's nacelles glinted as they exited the museum was gorgeous. The new camera angles were also amazing, all the ones that that the physical model could never achieve.
I think the D getting down like it was in Ace Combat was thanks to Data. He multi-tasked the thrusters like a god. Probably his greatest achievement. I'd wager other federation ships could pull it off, but I doubt with the skill Data has.
Greatest? Give the Robot some credit he technically cheated death. Although something tells me DATA that died in Season 1 was still the true data and the one we see in Season 3 is and isn't Data being a algamation of 3 turning into a new individual. DATA B4 and Lore. hmm. Data before Lore..
You can put the best stunt driver in a stock Honda Accord, and s/he'll drive it better than nearly anyone else- but its still a freaking Accord, and there are limits to what the machine can pull off and endure. A Galaxy-Class, even with the best helmsman in the quadrant, is still a Galaxy-Class, with the same amount of thrusters and maneuvering tech that it had in Next Gen... And a similar amount of mass that has to be accounted for. Also- we can't forget that Troi apparently was able to fly the Dee just was well, if not better- she did take over controls and escaped the explosion, complete with a pit stop. So, can't even just say it was the android...
I'd also give a good reason on why the Ent D didn't fly like that before would be the inerial dampeners inability to keep up with Data's maneuvering. If the D was rocking back and forth like that with 1000+ people onboard Sickbay would be flooded with crash injuries
@@DarthTaz My thoughts exactly... we've seen her pull some incredible tight and spot turns, but it's always been a single quick manoeuvre here or there, not continuous manoeuvre after manoeuvre. We know the RCS is up to it, so that leaves the IDS and LS to limit it. With no crew, IDS and LS can basically be off for most of the vessel. freeing up even more power for the RCS and defence systems (something alluded to in DS9 too, even though we never see a galaxy pull stunts in that show either).
I really liked the Intrepid. I thought the underslung pod and general layout gave it a real sense of menace, almost from the Tom Paris school of design "Want trouble to look the other way? Look like you will phaser a fool for just thinking of scanning you!" Also I had to let the whole Titan refit issue go because it was driving me batty. Seems like it was more a plot element to drive conflict than to make any sense at all.
Looks like the Intrepid was another "old design made new" like the Shangri-La class, from that shot of the Shangri-La and some other TMP era ship with a similar underslung pod in this video. Guess that's where they were pulling their inspiration from this season.
@@CASA-dy4vs I *really* want to like the Galaxy-class. But it looks good from exactly *one* angle. Otherwise the saucer section has a wonky shape, or the nacelles don't look quite right, or the secondary hull looks too spindly for the rest of the ship. The Intrepid looked a bit... "put together with some thought". But if you like the Galaxy-class, I'm not gonna repudiate your stance! :)
This rebuilt Enterprise-D is even stronger than the original D thanks to the stardrive from the USS Syracuse, which I'm willing to gamble was a Dominion War variant of the Galaxy class. You know, those brick walls that form the heart of the Starfleet battlegroups.
IIRC Galaxy classes constructed during the war were frequently sent to fleets with 60% of the space frame empty. No sense in fitting them with labs if they're going to get destroyed at Chin'toka.
When it comes to the Ent-D flying like she's a fighter...I'd bet under normal circumstances those sorts of moves would rather shorten the lifespan of a ship's hull, which is why you wouldn't typically see those maneuvers. But given the situation, and the fact she's just going to be going back to a museum if they survived, there'd be no real harm in pushing the old girl to her limits just that once.
Then there is the fact of who was piloting the Ship. DATA. A ship also that had no crew other than those on the bridge and any drones working around in her. So all you really had to do was focus life support to a certain section allowing the ship to perform the way it does and DATA was likely using every single thruster and engine to the max.
It's also notable that within the same episode, the Titan-A, which is fully manned and crewed, didn't move like a fighter, and maneuvered in less spectacular fashion (albeit still fast). Part of that is likely due to its helmsman at the time not being the best there is, but it does highlight how spectacular the maneuvering on the Enterprise D was inside the cube and the extenuating circumstances behind its ability to do so. It's also telling that the Enterprise D only really maneuvered so sharply in the episode on two occasions both inside the Borg Cube, and that otherwise it was mostly flying straight with gentler maneuvers. Third thing of note is that the Galaxy always had the potential to move like that, but likely wasn't practiced much for safety concerns: as mentioned, moments like Picard's slingshot maneuver around an asteroid, or the other times the Galaxy and other similar sized ships made sharp maneuvers.
My favorite of this season is seeing Spacedock "tank" an armada of such size and firepower for so long! You could see a few ships succumbing to the station's firepower as well.
On the one hand, they call the Titan a 'refit', but on the other hand, it's called the Titan A, rather than just the Titan, suggesting it's a new ship. The way I figure it is that it makes such heavy reuse of materials from the original Titan, but rearranges them so severely, that even the characters in-universe are a bit unsure whether to consider it a new ship or a refit, so they just kinda treat it as being both at the same time.
The way i understood it was that there was a Titan before the Luna Class Titan from Riker but they had different registry numbers, just re-used the Name, that was the original fan design, it also hangs on the wall in the conference room, it is totally possible that the -A is a refit of the original first ship with donor pieces from the Luna Class... now why they would decommission a Luna Class ship when those still fly around in the Show, who knows? I thought it was a cool Ship but the whole Titan angle was a bit weird and renaming it to Enterprise G at the end was just... jesus i just got over the awkwardness of calling it the Titan and now you made it awkward all over again. I always wanted to see Riker on the Titan in live action, but of course HIS Luna Class, this didn't scratch that itch that went unscratched ever since Nemesis.
@@ZeroB4NG I could give some explanation. For the refit. The Neo Constitution likely was a new ship all together, and Riker being Riker likely got involved in a fight which crippled the ship so horribly that re-building her especially after MARS likely wasn't cost efficient. When they were building the A, and Rikers ship came up someone figured that since the computer core and elements of the Lunar ship was still useable and could be adapted to the New Constitution they just installed them. We don't know for sure how much of Rikers ship was truly installed but its likely his titan might have had a refit at some point prior to the incident before and someone figured those parts were too valuable to scrap and installed them on the Titan A and figured since a sizable portion of the former Lunar was in the Neo Constitution just write it off as a refit, and just pray to the gods someone doesn't bring it up. This would explain why no one was sure how to call the Titan A a refit or a new ship. As for being called the New Enterprise. I think people got used to Enterprise being the Flagship. Having her back as one of the ships instead of the ship kinda gives her more breathing room again. A chance to be more like Voyager, or the original TOS enterprise as that one ship that can do these missions or lost somewhere and considered a semi-disposable asset if something goes wrong or did go wrong. Enterprise in TOS was a little through middle age when she was doing her five years with Kirk. Older ship means a little more acceptable to lose. More willing to take risk
One of the things I really appreciate about Star Trek as a franchise is the refits. I get while in reality this was a way for the show to save money, but it is something that most fictional settings don’t bother with
The deflector you talk about on the Pathfinder is the secondary deflector for space magic - its main deflector is in its traditional position on the engineering hull
I was wondering why the entire season was short on light bulbs, until they arrived on the Enterprise D bridge. It was all so the good lighting there could be a contrast and look like a relief and a sign that the heroes were finally on the right tack.
Capital ships were also shown to move that fast at Wolf 359 in the DS9 opener. Both cases involving desperate last-ditch attempts against the Borg, so probably running every thruster on 200% power or something.
The ships this season were amazing, sadly my favorite was the Enterprise F. The Titan-A just isnt a looker like the beautiful Odyssey class F, which with its Galaxy inspired bridge was sort of a muscular evolved Enterprise E with interior elements and size taken from the Enterprise D.
Starfleet's materials shortages may explain why they can't seem to afford enough light bulbs to properly illuminate their vessels. Thank goodness Geordi was able to scrounge up enough for the bridge of the refitted Enterprise-D.
to be fair, the bit we saw of the D was the bridge, which the saucer on in the show was the same one that crashed and was recovered. So those were probably the original bulbs as the crew last left her. The engineering section, however, was built from scratch and is likely an ENTIRELY different proposition.
The Enterprise D's ability to maneuver in space is limited by 3 factors. 1) Inertial Dampening fields, the faster a turn, the greater the stress on them. Wouldn't want to liquefy the crew would you? 2) Structural integrity fields, basically because of its mass different parts have different inertia. The fields holds everything together when under stress. 3) Power to feed 1 and 2. The faster they move or take a turn the more power the other 2 take. However in the final episode, only the Bridge is occupied, and it has its own power generator and Life support. This means every once of power can got to the Shields, propulsion, Inertial dampening (only really needs the bridge for this) and Structural Integrity fields. With that kind of power I bet the old girl could do some crazy things.
I would hazard intertial dampening would be needed near critical systems throughout the ship, not just where the meat is; wouldn't want to be putting how much thousands of G-Forces on the warp reactor or computer core, and probably don't want the photon torpedoes to go flying everywhere inside the ship... But I would agree that they could cut some of that, and most of life support, and reroute that to the SI fields.
@@krim7 Yeah, that still doesn't change the vehicle he's flying; you can put the best stunt driver in the world behind the wheel of a school bus, and they're still gonna be driving a school bus.
@@krim7 Mass and inertia exist; more massive objects take more force to change direction/velocity. Its why a ship like the Defiant can perform maneuvers that a proper capital ship like an Excelsior or a Galaxy can't. (And lest we forget, inertial dampeners are for keeping the squishies inside from becoming paste- not for negating the inertia of the ship itself.)
The side by side shot of enterprise-d and titan-a at earth was magnificent! Beautiful ❤. Reminded me of star trek undiscovered country of enterprise-a and excelsior.
Despite being a fan overall of Season 3, especially compared to the last 2 seasons, I wasn't a fan of the renaming of the Titan. It's generally a bit unlucky to rename a ship normally, let alone what the Titan had been through. It's one of the reason i think the Ent-A had so many issues in ST: V, and while, in the moment, it was a nice gesture, it really wasn't needed. Having the Titan carry the flag for a while would have been fine, and unless the next few Enterprises are around for centuries, we're getting awfully close to J a lot sooner than expected. I'll admit, some of the annoyance is to how the show runners both love STO for their designs, but at the same time seem to go out of their way to mess with their timeline. Which sucks since a LOT of it could be tied in without issue. Focus on the Changeling ID protocols lets the Undine have a way in since their abilities aren't based on the same sort of shapeshifting. Mothballing the F since it's been damaged from some event could have allowed for it to be brought back into service after extensive repairs, delayed by interference from the Undine, Letting the Titan take the flagship role for a decade. When they added the Verity way early in the timeline in the comics, we were annoyed, but figured out how to adjust the timeline to make it work. Copy-paste fleet? Yeah, the new spacedock facilities have more advanced replicators, so can print most of a hull in one piece: great for durability, abysmal for serviceability. Leads to the modular parts for Kitbashing. Borg coming back? Yeah, makes sense. Bee colonies can occasionally kick out their queen if the hive becomes a liability, Having a nuralytic pathogen in your system could very well have had the queen take here "loyal" drones and hide at the edge of space while looking for a solution, managing dwindling numbers. It also lets the Borg Cooperative gain a foothold, and allows for the Borg to reform into a new collective with the design we see in STO, and a queen voiced by Lani Minellia. But, I digress. Most of my complaints was to how for the longest time, STO was the torchbearer of the franchise, stories set in the post- Nemesis timeframe with respect for the established lore, creative ways to include the Kelvin Timeline stuff, and even the Discovery era, that made enough sense to not be super jarring. STO has it's problems, but how it tried to make something from the dangling plot threads left behind from the series has always a highlight. That being said, Here's hoping that Shaw gets a shuttle named after him when the G series comes. Although, knowing Shaw, he'd probably prefer a Workbee. Keep up the good work, Spacedock.
I think that the Galaxy is ABLE to move like that, but doesn't because it puts the crew at greater risk due to the increased load on the inertial dampeners. Similar to how impulse drives CAN move faster than 1/3 c but don't due to the relativistic effects. IIRC, the Enterprise makes a similarly abrupt turn when escaping from the shock wave produced by the Amargossa star's collapse in Generations.
It's also likely that it could move so well due to the expertise of their positronic crewmember, who could calculate the routes better than any pilot or computer
I *would* have liked some comment about the Structural Integrity Fields or the like... Similar to how you can take a regular sedan and drive it around like stunt driver- the car can do it, but its not good for the car. So, some mention that "she can't handle much more, cap'n" would've been nice.
Even during the regular Run the D sometimes made near hairpin turns to warp away or for example in 'Relics' where they flipped here on her side in an instant to fit through the closing doors. So there's plenty of evidence to your argument. Star Trek Ships are all surprisingly nimble and quick.
I think the Galaxy isn't able to move like that and there is an annoying thing where the makers of nu-trek, and I assume Alex Kurtzman specifically, want Star Trek ship action to just be Star Wars (even though the ships in Star Trek are capital ships not fighters) so he forced a literal Star Wars sequence into Picard s3. All the conn officers now are supposed to be hot head speed machine pilots. Not people in charge of a massive ship plotting a course If Data had gone, I can do this and maneuvred it like in the booby trap not like in a Star Wars film as a tight very precise use of using his ability as data when he goes off on one and did his super speed I'm amazing thing and it's not a chase or anything it's just a very very tense thing where data is inputting hundreds even thousands of miniscule course corrections every minute that would have been so much cooler.
The Titan also got designed with both TNG style phaser banks and completely obsolete phaser emitters taken directly from the deisgn's 23rd Century history. We even see them fire in the last episode, so they actually are just two types of phaser on one ship which I find very messy.
@@Janoha17 I used to do it the other way around in STO, all decked out in Turrets and Cannons for rapid fire and fire at will spray, and Dual Beam Banks with Beam Overload for a massive alpha strike ...on like an Akira Class or a Prometheus Class... and practically on all the Klingon Cruisers, just fits the theme of a Vor'cha better.
Another thing I found messy is how the forward torpedo tube would have to fire at a noticable downward angle to prevent it's ordnance from slamming directly into the saucer's lower sensor buldge.
Spacedock 376K subscribers I really really really love the sleek, stylish, beautiful detailed look of the USS Titan NCC-80102 Neo Constitution-class starship. I don't care what anybody else says.......... I JUST LOVE IT'S GORGEOUS DESIGN!!!
I loved all the ships in this season. I think for me, I have a new favorite shuttle in Star Trek, the type 14. I just love how sleek and fast it looks, and that it really fits the era
I love these ships too. They all feel like we are back to the same universe again...familiar yet also new. So much better than stuff in Discovery, or even the goofball silliness of the California "kitchen table" Class from Lower Decks. I love the fact that they have used the Star Trek Online designs. Even though I never played the game, I have always thought that the ship designs were pretty neat.
Thanks for pointing out about the Wersching. I will admit Annie Wersching got quite a tribute from those folks..... A ship with her name on it and the dedication at the end of the finale of Picard. Makes you wonder what she would have been like if she been a starship Captain.
Completely AGREE with what you say about the "Constitution-III" class. It sticks out so much like a sore thumb when lined up with everything else. As well as the renaming of the Titan-A to the Enterprise-G is like doing a disrespect to Shaw
As Seven scrolls through the ships, you’ll notice the fan made Insignia-class as an icon in the list. Not quite sure what that means yet, but it’s cool it was included.
Never did understand why people thought the Enterprise D couldn't maneuver the way she did during that Borg Trench run sequence. We've seen her do limited maneuvers inside the Jenolan Dyson Sphere and later on we saw what ships like the miranda class and others could do during the battle sequences in DS9. From the battle of Wolf 359 with Sisko's Saratoga and the rest of the fleet trying to slow down the Borg, to what we've seen those ships do during the Dominion War. It's space, with inertia dampeners, there's nothing to slow down even a ship as big as the Enterprise D.
Basically it's one of those things where the ship itself has always been capable of doing those maneuvers, but they're rarely practiced for a number of reasons likely related to safety and longevity. It's like how while you normally see vans move comfortably straight and slow, there's nothing preventing them from being used to say drift around a corner at high speed provided you're not carrying anything in the back and your driver has godlike ability (there are actually racing circuits in Japan that do this). In the same way, a mostly empty Galaxy class with the galaxy's most advanced android at the helm basically unlocked the ship's maneuvering potential.
@@forrestpenrod2294 except in booby trap they were moving slowly and it's all about flying in low gravity and using that to it's advantage. And it's very different to Picard s3 and most of nu-trek it's about making star trek capital ships look like fighters for no reason. There's better ways to make capital ship fights interesting. It doesn't have to be star wars.
You'd think with the planned nature of decommissioning the Enterprise-F, Starfleet would have already selected or built another ship to become the Enterprise-G then suddenly they slap it onto the Titan, that's got a sting for whomever was slated to receive or captain the G before the Titan's heroics.
I am curious about the sort of circular cross formation the Starfleet ships formed while under Borg control. The pattern looked vaguely Borg-ish, bu I haven't found any match to it.
The USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D has taken her rightful place at the table of Queens. There were some Defiant class ships in the fleet frmation shoots. Most notably, 4 of them at the top of the formation towards the Titan's upper right in episode 10 as the camera zoomes past the new Earth space stock towards the Titan. You can also see those 4 Defiants move into that position when Admiral Shelby is giving her speech in episode 9.
Especially coming so soon in this video after each other, this was my thought as well. The Intrepid's pod feels "tacked on" and yet also intrinsically part of the design-basically what would happen if someone designed a new ship from scratch with the refit NX in mind.
Both Star Trek and Star Wars always featured heavy kitbashing, so it's great to see Star Trek Online assets being used in the actual show, designs which are much more mature.
Wish they’d of done a slower fly thru to see more of all these ships in the show. I know nothing is perfect but I had a great time watching this season! TGFT (thank goodness for Terry)
The D will always be my favorite Enterprise. I think they missed an opportunity for a funny bit of fanservice by not putting some black cardboard over some of the bridge stations. Could've head Geordi rip them off saying "Don't need these anymore" lol
i dont know why but the intrepid strikes me as a modern day pioneer class starship and if there is one ship from sto i would love to see in canon it would be the presidio command battlecruiser picard had some truly awesome ships well from season 2 to 3
There's been rumor creeping up that the Enterprise-H will actually be "Enterprise" Class. Also I didn't like how the Titan got renamed Enterprise-G. I think it did the Titan legacy dirty with that one. That and we went from D to G in 40 years. That's an insanely short amount of time. I mean it took 40 years to just go from the OG Enterprise to the A. And now we're only 2 letters away from the J seen in Enterprise. A ship that's 120 years in the future. This means that both the H and I would need to have VERY long careers.
Missed mentioned the NX-01 Refit and seeing the 1701-A again at the Museum. They should have been worthy of a mention. Especially the A. Many people had not clue what happened to it. And seeing it at the museum made a lot of people happy.
How can you think the intrepid side profile looks bad? It’s gorgeous. The side profile is the best part. It looks like a wasp or hornet. I would love to see a show with that’s as the hero ship
There were some production reasons why the did the D dirty in Generations. And the most basic had to do with it's design. The Enterprise-D was designed specifically for the small screen. For the classic 4:3 CRT Television screen. And it was designed to overcome one of the most basic problems with classic television as a medium back in the day. See TV never used to be very good at portraying depth. Unlike the cinema it was very very hard to give the illusion of front to back motion. The Enterprise D and the USS Voyager models were subtly shaped to overcome this. They have a bit of forced perspective built into them. This is why the D's saucer always seems a little more squashed front to back and its nacelles always seem smaller than your brain tells you they should be. Both models were built to give the illusion of front to back motion in space on a TV screen. In much the same way the Enterprise flat round broad saucer aided in providing the illusion of banking and turning. You see a similar if cruder illusion used in the Classic Cylon Raiders from the original 1979 Battlestar Galactica. The problem was Cinema and its wide aspect ratio screens can easily convey depth and front to back motion. They don't need the shaping tricks to pull it off. But the model having those shaping tricks made it very difficult to properly shoot for the movie screen. As you had to get the angles and movements just right otherwise it looked weird and distorted. The model also lacked the verticality and feeling of grandeur seen in the Refit enterprise. And on top of that even the "better" 4' filming model was getting very very ragged by the time they shot Generations. Watch All Good Things on BluRay, and pay attention to the last scene. You can really see how badly the skin of the model is starting to distort and sag into itself from the heat of the internal lights over the years. Picard season 3 was able to make it work, because CGI has it's own bag of magic tricks. Plus I suspect they tweaked a few bits here and there to tone down the forced perspective. while at the same time it was still technically being shot for smaller screens.
WAIT, that starbase 1 might to be based partially on Star Trek Online's Original Starbase 1, before they remade it to be the show one. There was A LOT more open space in the STO one, but it had similar design elements of the 4 massive pillars expanding from each side, and looks like it has the same Docking system as STO's orginal one as well. and yeah, the odyssey is such an amazing ship. if anyone wants to see STO's take on How the Enterprise-F came to be and its Captain, an Andorian, Va'kel Shon, there is a story you can access at the end of the game thats an older questline where it makes its first appearence, called the Lost Dominion: the 2800. It also just so happens to be a Sequal story to DS9 where you deal with the 2800 Dominion ships that were deleted from existence seemingly by the prophets in the show.
I cried tears of joy in seeing the Enterprise-D again and with the reveal that the Titan became the Enterprise-G. After the disaster of Frontier Day, I can easily see the renaming of the Titan to Enterprise as a desperately needed morale boost - making the ship and crew that took on the Borg AND a Starfleet armada simultaneously the new Flagship. You can't say that she didn't live up to the name "Enterprise", even if she didn't have it just yet.
The ship designs in series 3 are awesome. Would really like a new game set in this era. A ship combat game like Legacy or another FPS/RTS. Bring Star Trek games back
Great video. I really enjoyed Season 3 and I love the inclusion of some of the Star Trek Online ships. I know that some fans get picky over that, as the game did a great deal to continue on past Nemesis, but they should simply treat this as two alternate ideas going forward. If you prefer the game, then consider it your own canon. If you prefer the Season 3 of Picard, then go with that. No need to worry about it. Watch both and pick the one that is best for you.🙂 Remember how much we all loved All Good Things? You could consider it the real future, or you could treat it as one of many possibilities. It doesn't matter. Never allow yourselves to get bogged down into what others tell you to like.
I didn't see a single Cali-Class in the fleet- they were probably out on the frontier doing real work while all the Sovereign-y ships were at Earth for the dog and pony show... ("The entire fleet" my bum.)
@@Sephiroth144 I can practically hear most of the ensigns complaining about missing out on participating and Mariner pointing out how something horrible is bound to happen there and she's glad they'll be missing out on that part.
@@ScaryBaldMan But were they assigned to GOOD ships, or the ships that would be out working...? Also, are we including Mariner- like, how stubborn is she to be an Ensign at that point? Of course, realistically, 20 years could also see them out of Starfleet, dead, assigned to outposts/Starbases, scattered across various ships, etc... And, since everyone we see on the show would be too old to be affected by the Borgification Signal, so any there would be fighting on two fronts.
They even updated the Inquiry for S3, rounding out the strange flat dorsal part of the secondary hull and replacing the aircon grille deflector with something more Trek-like (an oval blue number). And the paint job got updated! I'm just disappointed that the Ent-F has been retired so soon. If they'd kept the Titan-A as the Titan-A, I think quite a few people would've followed the voyages of Captain Seven aboard her (if they decided to go with a new Star Trek show).
I really wish we'd see more done with the Sabre class - I always imagined them functioning in wings of 3-7 ships, patrolling contested areas or backing up a larger ship...
And that should be the Enterprise D final resting place a Museum Ship permanently docked at the Athon Fleet Museum. Not a crashed Saucer section rusting away on Viridian Three in ST:Generations.
The G's design really grew on me as the show went on. Honestly I love the slight jankiness behind it. I don't see the problem with renaming it. She earned the name Enterprise. She was the savior of the Federation long before she got that title. And there's so much potential in a show about an Enterprise that isn't the biggest or best ship in the fleet.
She also earned the name Titan. Is every ship that saved the Federation now gonna be named the Enterprise? What about the Defiant, Discovery and all the other ships that did great deeds, should they all be renamed as well. Starfleet has thousands of ships and I'm sure plenty have done great things, so why rename them? If anything, the fact they did great things without the name Enterprise is something that should be rewarded, not punished, like with a legacy registry.
Ships aren’t renamed to the Enterprise as a price. The Enterprise is the fleet flagship of Starfleet, so it always the tip of the spear. The G is a MASSIVE downgrade from the F. The D should have been refit as a Ross class and given the G designation. A more poetic end to the epic. And 7 should have been the Titans captain, not the Enterprises.
Great video on showing all the classes of ships since I am so behind on the times. But did anybody else think they saw an ambassador class and one of those shots? I too am kind of lukewarm on the G model though
A few extra seconds to discuss who more ships were named after would have been pleasant. The best is the Probert Spacedock, as Andrew Probert (who designed the D and worked on most of the movies) disliked the Spacedock idea from the beginning, feeling that a large starship needing to go inside another structure was silly.
I have an explanation for the D moving like that. They didn't have to keep people from splattering in the unmanned sections, which was most of it. Then Supercomputer Data could manipulate the gravity and structural integrity fields to make it rip around like it's hair was on fire and it's arse was catching.
Yeah, the D moving like that in the finale did feel a bit weird, she's a bit big to be making those maneuvers - though I wouldn't say it's implausible, given Data's capable of being an exceptional pilot and it's probably not the sort of stress you'd want to put her through if she was expected to have any service afterward; that sort of maneuvering probably puts a lot of stress on the hull. Would have been nice to get a Geordi line something like "you're gonna tear her apart if you keep this up Data!" Plus even with inertial dampeners the crew were getting a bit thrown around, if they'd had an actual crew instead of just bridge lots with drones supplying the torpedo launchers Beverly would probably have seen a LOT of injuries. Capable of it, but not something she should ever do in normal circumstances.
I really like the Duderstadt class. It felt like a really interesting midpoint between the classic neck-and-secondary-hull configuration, and the flat configuration we saw more and more in the post-TNG era. TBH I like all of the new ship designs. The bolder, chunkier shapes are a lot more of what I personally like about star trek ship design than the flat and smooth post-TNG ships, or the spindly looking disco era ships.
I think they also made a gap with one of the older designs, theAkyazi/Azuki class perimeter defense ship, specifically that "Akula" variant with that underside torpedo tube/deflector area but updated to Star Trek Picard's standards. (Akula variant, not Akula class which was another ship)
I finally watched Picard. What a turnaround, particularly in the ships department! From the terrible use of ships in season 1, we saw an improvement with the Sagan and the gathered fleet in season 2, to the all you can eat buffet of new/canonized STO ships in season 3. I do hope we get another show set in the post-Picard era.
I probably wouldn’t complain so much of the Titan if it didn’t look like it wasn’t rendered properly with all the sharp angles around the impulse engines and the cut outs along the saucer. It fits the TMP aesthetic but it doesn’t look natural next to a Sovereign or an Odyssey with how smooth and flowing they appear.
Well they kind of did the same thing when Kirk stole the Enterprise. Also you really only need a Bridge Crew and an Engineering staff, everyone else is not essential to the operation of the ship's movement and weapons, they used to have lots of science labs and diplomatic facilities, schools for children and all that, the 1701-D was a big Luxury Cruise Ship, since they only build the Bridge, no engineering set no Warp Core, Geordi is just controlling engineering from his bridge console. They probably got AI and maintenance drones taking care of most that stuff anyway these days.
@@ZeroB4NG Thats what I was posting about, yea only "engineering staff" bet they'll feel comforted when they need a doctor but all they see are fellow engineers.
The Duderstadt seems to be similar to one of the Akyazi/Azuki class perimeter defeense ship, "Akula" variant with that underside torpedo tube/deflector area but updated to Star Trek Picard's standards
Picard's final episode did not have the Enterprise-D move like a fightercraft. It actually never exceeded 20 degrees per second turn rate, which puts it rather well in-line with what the Galaxy-class is capable of in other games such as Bridge Commander, Startrek Online, or the original show. The kicker is that the camera went WILD. That's why the Enterprise-D seems to be swooping around so swiftly. Not to mention, even if we do accept that kind of mobility as possible, that it was plainly said that it was highly improbable to pull off except with... maybe... an android helmsman. That said, had budget and circumstances allowed, I would have tried to saucer separate to get only the Stardrive in there. That large saucer was a huge liability where clearance was involved. Also, significant caveat is that no one said they actually had to maneuver super fast in there (it wasn't a moving cube) and Beverly was pretty handy with those weapons subduing anything that could deal the ship harm. Time was more of a factor on the exit; not the entry.
Given Geordi's comments implying there were still issues being worked out with matching the Syracuse stardrive section to the Enterprise-D's saucer, I'd easily believe that saucer separation would be at best ill-advised, if not impossible.
Only Problem: they would have had to build the Battle Bridge for that too and you want the TNG Actors on the real TNG Bridge, that is what they build the Set for.
@ZeroB4NG build both sets. The battle bridge does doesn't have to match, its from the Syracuse. At the end after they've escaped the borg cube have Riker do a manual docking of the sections and warp out.
I'd like to see Star Trek the next, next Generation with Seven captioning the 1701-G. I think after the loss of Mars and the Utopia fleetyards, Starfleet is probably scrounging old ship hulls from their various decommissioning depots, updating them before bringing them into service, which would explain the Reliant and Gagarin classes.
Did any one else notice the one ship in spacedock that could be a Cali class? Would of been neat if it was an end of life Cerritos, Mariner and Boimler on board, sulking that she's finally being decommissioned?
Galaxy class ships normally cannot move like that, But when you have an AI/human hybrid pilot that can make a million+ calculations per second anything is possible.
I actually think that the weird underslung secondary hull on the Intrepid looks fine aesthetically. It's cool even. But yeah, one does have to wonder how practical that would be if that's where the warp core is. But, it's not like there aren't already ships that are weird that way.
While I like virtually all the post-TNG designs, I find the Galaxy Class design with it's clean curvilinear lines appears to be a more advanced design.
I wonder if the Space Dock itself can go to warp? Like, maybe it doesn't have nacelles like a ship does, but maybe it has just a huge warp field generator system spread through its structure that, well, never gets used. Except when they move it to another location. Imagine seeing that thing rotate vertically in space until its tip is pointed at its destination, and then pulling a High Charity and warping out. LoL. As for that Borg Cube, the readout on the screen of size might have been a reference about 'this is what a Normal Borg Cube is sized' based on the last time that Enterprise ran into a cube, and we just didn't see the one beside it where all the numbers are x100 larger. Because I'm pretty damned sure that Megacube was made up of like, 64 or more 'normal' Cubes all mashed together and linked like Lego. So when it gets scanned, it still somewhat resembles a regular Borg Cube... just massively upscaled. So incredibly huge that even as it's destroyed, not ALL of it is able to blown up. ( I swear the top right cube corner just gets pushed out, and doesn't explode.)
Considering the Starfleet HQ in Future Discovery does that, I reckon they’re keeping that as a later development. Bear in mind DS9 could barely get ersatz impulse thrusters to work for a few minutes, and Spacedock is a lot bigger.
4:50 My Guess is Sub-Space Field Assisted by 6 Niagara-Class and 4 California-Class Starships over a bit of time. 11:39 and also when it comes to her Stardrive is as bare as a freshly waxed Arse when it comes to weapons, its only ventral weapons are on the saucer, and it’s most critical engineering Systems are in a Blindspot.
I wish they'd shown a live action Cali Class. Or in fact any Lower Decks ship. They should be around at this point. The Parliment class is just beautiful. And the Obena alongside the Excelsior II would have been amazing.
In Strange New Worlds there is going to be a Lower Decks crossover... i'm scared of what that will look like but you may just get the cali in live action there. Also totally possible that they go the other way and turn SNW into a cartoon...
Star Trek capital ships have been behaving like fighters since First Contact, where dozens of city sized ships were swarming around that Cube like angry bees. It really doesn't make a lot of sense for them not to, either. Size is relative in space, and with those magic star trek engines it would be nutty to think they wouldn't be nimble and fast.
Yes, kinda hated how the D moved like the Millennium Falcon and hope that doesn't set a precedent too. I'd also agree with the questionable renaming of the Titan and just the ship itself. It looks older than the already old Excelsiors, weird chunky proportions, and those new nacelles don't seem to flow with the overall design. Still more enjoyable than the previous seasons!
It looks odd because it is literally a fan design that was made for the TMP era and they only slapped modern nacelles on it. But it is a good looking ship. ...but it is no Enterprise. I just about accepted it as a Titan after it not being the Luna Class and Riker acting like it was HIS old ship... yeah nah... and i must have missed the Memo, i thought this was the 1701-F's maiden Voyage party, look at the new awesome ship, fireworks and everything... ooops no, this one is being send to the recycler. WHHHHYYYY, we just got it!
@@ZeroB4NG Exactly, it just doesn't fit the era and looks so out of place against the other ships. And yeah, the way they dismissed the F was silly. Sure, this season was all about fan service, but it's not like we didn't love other trek shows that didn't have an "enterprise" hero ship. It's like a lot of trek. I loved it so much in the moment, but best not to over analyze it afterward.
I've kinda noticed that the F's bridge was smaller than the one on ST:O. Proves that you can't just create a hotrod without grounding it to real-world stuff.
Ummm, hate to break it to you, but large Starfleet ships have been pretty damn agile since DS9. Just look at a scene from Sacrifice of Angels after commercial break when the Defiant has a glam shot with the camera before smoking a Hideki and heading for a Jem'Hadar battlecruiser. There's a Galaxy doing a turn to blow up a non descript ship which was only mildly less agile than what we saw in the cube. It's not a bad thing. Star Trek has a greater mastery of mass and inertia than most other scifis. Also remember that ST ships on average are much smaller than many other scifis.

Fans complained that Season 1 Picard was a copy-pasta of one or two Federation ships. By Season 3 of Picard, the design and SFX teams had virtually brought back as many old ships as possible and practically canonized Star Trek Online's entire fleet roster all at once. That's awesome. 🙂
You are right. It's absolutely amazing.
Thats not all fans complained about during S1
I wonder where the copy/paste fleet was for the battle lol
Done right
And people are complaining about that too. I hate this fan base soooo much.
@@Sephiroth144 Granted she had a little bit of extra room in there. I don't think she was the one that escaped the main explosion.
It made me think of mutalisks from StarCraft.
Looks like the Intrepid was another "old design made new" like the Shangri-La class, from that shot of the Shangri-La and some other TMP era ship with a similar underslung pod in this video. Guess that's where they were pulling their inspiration from this season.
My first Trek Hero ship, the Intrepid :D
@@Withernallmy first hero ship was the Ent-D, never forget the day I discovered Star Trek TNG and eventually the whole series of movies and series
Of course, brick walls aren't known for turning on a dime...
I was thinking the same thing too, my guess is that the Syracuse lost its saucer during the war.

What people forget is how manuverable trek ships really are
Then there is the fact of who was piloting the Ship.
And there's not 1200 people, including kids and civilians, onboard, trotting about the arboretum or enjoying water landscapes on the holodeck.
You also don't have to worry about a crew & civilians getting squished, along with all their stuff.
The way i understood it was that there was a Titan before the Luna Class Titan from Riker but they had different registry numbers, just re-used the Name,
that was the original fan design, it also hangs on the wall in the conference room, it is totally possible that the -A is a refit of the original first ship with donor pieces from the Luna Class...
now why they would decommission a Luna Class ship when those still fly around in the Show, who knows?
@@ZeroB4NG your explanation doesn't work though, because the registry number is that of riker's titan
One of the things I really appreciate about Star Trek as a franchise is the refits. I get while in reality this was a way for the show to save money, but it is something that most fictional settings don’t bother with
Stargate SG1 is the only other show I can think of where Refits and such happen on a regular basis.
The deflector you talk about on the Pathfinder is the secondary deflector for space magic - its main deflector is in its traditional position on the engineering hull
Love the way the new Spacedock has the outboard modules on spokes, kinda calling back the layout of TOS's K-series stations.
I was wondering why the entire season was short on light bulbs, until they arrived on the Enterprise D bridge. It was all so the good lighting there could be a contrast and look like a relief and a sign that the heroes were finally on the right tack.
The constructor of the sets said that she let install enough light bulbs in every set, however the director didn't want to use them.
😂 For real. A future where money doesn't exist because everything materializes out of thin air has shortages for light emitters.
You can blame Gladiator for every set having to be dark and edgy.
to be fair, the bit we saw of the D was the bridge, which the saucer on in the show was the same one that crashed and was recovered. So those were probably the original bulbs as the crew last left her.
The engineering section, however, was built from scratch and is likely an ENTIRELY different proposition.
Also the bizarre shortage of carpeting.
@@typhoonoftempest Either scratch or salvaged from another Galaxy class.
Also an android is piloting it with super human reflexes.
@@krim7 Yeah, that still doesn't change the vehicle he's flying; you can put the best stunt driver in the world behind the wheel of a school bus, and they're still gonna be driving a school bus.
@@Sephiroth144 If you have thrusters on all sides of your ship, you can easily move in 360 degrees.
The obvious affection you have for some of these vessels (and those that inspired them) is genuinely heartwarming.
I like to think the Saber-class on display was the USS da Vinci from the SCE novels.
Geordi rebuilt the D out of spares. The man deserves the Admiral title someday but apparently as Commodore, you can get more done.
I think that the Galaxy is ABLE to move like that, but doesn't because it puts the crew at greater risk due to the increased load on the inertial dampeners. Similar to how impulse drives CAN move faster than 1/3 c but don't due to the relativistic effects.
IIRC, the Enterprise makes a similarly abrupt turn when escaping from the shock wave produced by the Amargossa star's collapse in Generations.
also Picard's slingshot handling of the Ent-D in the episode with the Snare trap.
Not people in charge of a massive ship plotting a course
If Data had gone, I can do this and maneuvred it like in the booby trap not like in a Star Wars film as a tight very precise use of using his ability as data when he goes off on one and did his super speed I'm amazing thing and it's not a chase or anything it's just a very very tense thing where data is inputting hundreds even thousands of miniscule course corrections every minute that would have been so much cooler.
The Titan also got designed with both TNG style phaser banks and completely obsolete phaser emitters taken directly from the deisgn's 23rd Century history. We even see them fire in the last episode, so they actually are just two types of phaser on one ship which I find very messy.
Some STO players do combine beams and cannons/turrets (though it's usually fore cannons with beams or a full cannon/turret build).
@@Janoha17 This isn't STO.
@@ZeroB4NG That's actually a pretty neat build.
Another thing I found messy is how the forward torpedo tube would have to fire at a noticable downward angle to prevent it's ordnance from slamming directly into the saucer's lower sensor buldge.

I really really really love the sleek, stylish, beautiful detailed look of the USS Titan NCC-80102 Neo Constitution-class starship.
The Bridge Commander soundtrack in the background was an excellent choice.
Feel like it disses both the Titan and the Enterprise legacy, IMnsHO.
The Booby Trap has some pretty crazy maneuvering as well.
People seem to forget that in TNG the ship was a 2 meter model that was being shot on a GO-Motion cam.
@@forrestpenrod2294 I had wished the writer's used the slingshot maneuver through some part of the cube as an homage to the episode.

Sometimes there's quite a gap in between enterprises tbf

I am curious about the sort of circular cross formation the Starfleet ships formed while under Borg control. The pattern looked vaguely Borg-ish, bu I haven't found any match to it.
If you remove the secondary hull of the Duderstadt class it looks like a newer NX-class Starship from enterprise.
I think the Intrepid is mean to be a Star Fleet callback to the NX class Refit. Looking at it I really get updated NX class vibes.
They will have NCC 1702 H1, NCC 1701 H2, NCC 1701 H3, etc.😅🤣😂
I do like the Duderstadt class Intrepid. It *is* a little bit weird, but it's fun weird, not actually off putting to me. I rock with it.
I agree I think it's a damn good-looking ship. If I was Starfleet captain that take something like that or the Gagarin.
Missed mentioned the NX-01 Refit and seeing the 1701-A again at the Museum. They should have been worthy of a mention. Especially the A. Many people had not clue what happened to it. And seeing it at the museum made a lot of people happy.
The USS Titan-A/Enterprise-G may be my new favorite starfleet ship design.
(Behind the D of course.)
The Enterprise-D got the ending it deserved.
unlike the E. 😞
@@cyberdetective01 That was not his fault.
Season 3 was a big kiss to tng fans. It was incredible
How can you think the intrepid side profile looks bad? It’s gorgeous. The side profile is the best part. It looks like a wasp or hornet. I would love to see a show with that’s as the hero ship
Picard Season 3 as a Star Trek fan of 4 decades and watched TNG weekly this was awesome.
Beyond glad they canonized the Odyssey class.
" ...and I thought the gap in the neck was *dumb* " 😆
Love the use of the music from Bridge Commander!
Bring Star Trek games back
The D is so freaking beautiful, i cant think of a more elegant starship design in any universe setting
I firmly believe that Geordi just scraped the letters off the hull of the "D" and nailed them onto the Syracuse.
The Saucer is from Enterprise D, you can even see scorching on the edge
@@admiralmallard7500 I know. The visual from my head canon amuses me.
That's so fucking cool they added the Oddy, that has been my favorite ship for a minute. I'm glad they gave a lot of love to STO
Love how the spoiler alert is backed by MASSIVE SPOILER FIGHT
I had a sad realization that somewhere in that Frontier Day fleet was the former "lower decks" crew of the Cerritos. Hope they made it.
@@Sephiroth144 Lower Decks takes place in 2380. Picard Season 3 is set in 2401. You think they haven't been promoted and reassigned in 21 years?
The saber class is still my favorite overall.
She was already named IN TRIBUTE to something else, the Titan.
@@martinjrgensen8234 I like your idea!
@@Queue_M4 Oh no. The Discovery is going to be renamed Enterprise. NOOOOO!
Great video. I'm with you on the Enterprise G. I don't love it but I don't hate it.
I love all the Star Trek ships equally as much. there the most majestic of all the Sci-Fi starships 👍 with the exception of the millennium falcon.
ALSO, through the "D" we found out that all you need is a bridge crew to fly a 20+ year old ship that used to need almost 1000 person crew.
At least if you only need to run it for a day or two and then put it back in the museum.
@@DanielRMueller That was tried by Kirk's crew and they ended up blowing up the Enterprise to kill Klingons.
Geordi perfected Scotty's system automation.
Nice use of the Bridge Commander music!
Glad you guys feel the same about the Neo Constitution class.
Great job!!
i like how the new spacedock 5:57 stands it ground on space (pun intended)
While I like virtually all the post-TNG designs, I find the Galaxy Class design with it's clean curvilinear lines appears to be a more advanced design.
A much more fitting end for my favorite USS Enterprise.
I skipped this for 8 daya just so i could watch S3 without spoilers. I am so gonna enjoy this one!
( I swear the top right cube corner just gets pushed out, and doesn't explode.)
i think its just a stationary station and it cant move or perhaps is like ds9
Excellent. One of my favorite videos from you.
The Odyssey class is definitely my favorite
Terry M. said it’s,supposed to be lots of standard cubes all linked together, so let’s say that 3km screen was describing one section.
