- I found a muzzle device that will extend under the hand guards but still has a compensator built in. A barrel shroud compensator combo muzzle device.

I bought one from Gun Tech more so to keep from burning my hands on the exposed barrel. Not to mention it protects the barrel as an added bonus, I wasn’t trying to make it look like it had a suppressor. I don’t notice any additional weight either and love the way it looks. Great video, went and bought mine after seeing this.

I use a Black Moose 5050 can..Works great and made of aluminum so it is much lighter than the steel ones.

Do you need a crush washer when installing a 3 inch compensator with the threads starting at 1 and 1 quarter inch?

Not sure if you answered or if even anyone has asked. Does this require timing, is it hand tightened or can you use tools to tighten/time?
Great video. I bought the M&P Response for light shooting/home defense. I tried getting my wife into shooting. But anything more than a 22 scares the hell out of her. She likes the Response. But still a little skittish. This may just do the trick. Then I would be able to make that gun "hers", and pick something a little nicer for myself LOL.

I have a few questions So are these legal like no tax stamp or atf/nfa needed? and what does 1/2x28 mean? Also removing the muzzle break from a 16 inch barrel wouldn’t that make the rifle an SBR since it doesn’t meant the ATF’s 16 inch requirement?

LOL I did the same thing, but instead of using a barrel shroud, I used a Suppressor and a short barrel. 7.5 inch barrel in .300 BLK, 6.5 inch Suppressor, 12.35 inch Handguard to cover the whole thing. I actually had a reason for doing this other than just looks- I didn't want to risk a baffle strike that would result in the whole can exploding in my face. With the handguard, there is a significant chance of it being captured and funneled forward instead. It was enough to convince me. In all honesty, I didn't even like the look until AFTER I did it. That's when I fell in love with the look, and have tried to replicate it with any short barrel rifle I have now. Working on figuring out a way to do it for an AK build I've got... so far it doesn't look good though. Apparently, not many people think that look is very "AKish" or something. 🤷♂️
I'm about to start a 300blk build with suppressor. Didn't even think of getting a longer handguard as an exploding can deterrent. Is it a pain to adjust the gas block though? Would be cool if someone made handguards that came apart in the middle or something
@@NeckboneArmory a company does make a quick release hand guard kind of like the quick release optics u pull a tab and it comes right off also no play when locked in mainly used for 300blk for those adjustable blocks that way u can easily play with it on the range
Sometimes we give up functionality for just plain looking cool. I’ve put GunTec barrel shrouds on every AR I own except for the ones with real suppressors
Do you use crush washers? I’m building my first AR and my GunTec shroud doesn’t fit with a crush washer on.

@@Ctreo7 my barrel shroud didn't fit over the crush washer. So I ended up using a high temp O-ring as recommended by Kevin. Fits like a glove
How do u even tighten this down without it coming lose ? There is no slots for a hex to cutout for a wrench. STRAP WRENCH?

Any chance you can provide the max od barrel that Guntec comp will accept? I cannot find any other reviews or information on this thing.
The inside diameter was about 3/4" maybe a little less. Threaded onto 1/2" barrel thread. I couldn't find anything about which barrel size it fits on either. I'm guessing any 1/2" threaded AR barrel with OD less than 3/4" should fit. Keep in mind I am wrong almost all the time.

How is the guntec shroud/Brake working out for you?? Is a crush washer necessary for installation, does it stay tight?? Thanks in advance.
I didn't use a crush just torqued it down tight and it stays so far

louder down range but less for the shooter. wasnt a huge difference though

maybe the shroud will just add some weight to the front and mitigate heat.
Do you apply loctite or a washer or how do you install it so it doesn't become loose? Thanks in advance.
I don't use anything since I take it on and off pretty often. A lock washer would probably be what I'd use to keep it on there. Would need to find a way to torque this down though since the only accessible part is the ports when you put it on there. I've had luck with a spanner wrench using one of the ports to tighten it down.

Gonna get one of these, but I’m gonna chop a couple inches off the back shroud portion to where you can’t see it through my bca upper I just ordered. Might only save a couple ounces but I don’t need it to be any longer than what it needs to be.
Just in case you don’t already know this, Guntec also sells one that’s only 3 inches long and it’s a couple dollars cheaper. That one might work for you.

They make a shorter one. I don't make barrel shrouds I was just doing a sort of review.

Does the shroud interfere with m lok attachments in the same area?
Yes it does, I had to move my pic rail back to accommodate the shroud.
So basically a shoulder thing that goes up?
So the flash is only directed forward and not through the side holes with this?
The side holes are ports. It reduces flash if that's what you mean. Gases still exit through those side holes to help stabilize when firing.

What’s the length of your hand guard?
The handguard is 15" but the barrel was 16"
Cosmetically, that does look better. But... a comp on a 16" barrel is really not needed unless your shooting 2-gun and want to cut a few hundreds off your time. On a self defense rifle, a flash hider makes more practical sense. Or, you can split the difference and run a PWS FSC Comp/flash hider; I run one pinned on my 14.5 Gunner. I'm not sure what comp that monster is you have there, but it looks a lot more like it would function as a linear comp...which is nearly useless on a 16" bbl. Regardless, thanks for reviewing your process; always helps to see other shooter's mods! 👊🏼🇺🇲👊🏼
I just got 2. One for my 16 inch with 15 inch handguard which looks awesome but my 300 has a 12 inch handguard and it sits inside the handguard. Def not gunna work. Got a new 10 inch handguard but now thinking about another build all together. When does it end!!! Hahhaaaha

no it doesn't. You would have to pin and weld it for it to count as barrel length

How about a shorter shroud by this outfit for 10-5" barrels? The one described above would hit the gas block on shorter barrels.

Does the gas block get in the way?
In my case it's far enough back. The shroud part would not fit over though. Maybe rifle length gas system it would hit the gas block

@@BattlefieldBroskies I tighten with a punch through one of the holes by hand. There's probably a better tool, could even use shims. I put a little aeroshell grease on the threads for most muzzle devices. It came loose on me once but I just tighten it back up tighter and no problem since

you would think firearm Mfg's would have address that that gap between the handguard and muzzle device more than what it is. really I wish someone would come up with a better device to use, that you can use with pretty much any muzzle device,, and still be able to cover that hideous gap like a simple lightweight sleeve

I'm not from California and don't know the legal stuff there so don't listen to this: I think rimfire doesn't have to follow the attachment law thing. For pistols you can't because it makes them 'assault pistols' whatever that is. Basically, it depends what you put it on.

So you just hand tight a barrel shroud? There's isnt anyway to use for a wrench
That's what I do. You can put a punch tool in the ports and get more leverage too.
