    Got a lot of good memories with that Ute back in the days, it’s awesome to watch it get a freshen up 👌🏻

    was wondering if i need to wax and grease before doing the rust seal coat.... my understanding from the instructions is you don't need to after rust blast and if your got too much residue it was let dry too much during the rust removal stage ? looks mint about to try it out on my 40 series

    Love your work, man. With the sandblasting, if you have a Karcher, they make a wet blasting wand. As with everything, there are pros and cons, but the initial outlay pays for itself after the first chassis.

    Hi Sam, enjoying the build videos, so a big thumbs. Was there a reason you didnt spray the KBS inside the chassis rails like Barney's did on his, to prevent future rust ? As you put in a hell of a lot of work, repairing and preparing the chassis for paint.

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks heaps for watching. I did buy a product to spray in the chassis. It's a cavity coater. I just have not got around to doing it yet. I bought 3 cans so will also use it in the sill panels etc.

    How's the KBS paint holding up on the chassis mate? I know the chassis hasn't left the shed but am considering using it myself and wanted some feedback. Thanks.

      Seems to be holding up pretty well but yeah its early stages and has just been sitting in the shed. I like being able to spray and brush on

    what size is the shed?

    • @ShenkeGarage

      Shed is 6 x 10.5m. There is a video on made on what it cost to build on the channel.

    What are your thoughts on the devilbiss gpi? Personally I think its the best for the money

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think its great but its really only my first real experience in using spray guns so have no real comparison. I done a bit of research before buying and a lot of people recommended this gun for good bang for buck. So far im really impressed.

    • @ozjado
      @ozjado 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShenkeGarage im in the same boat as far as experience but I done my 1st full clear over base respray with a supercheap gun and it turned out awesome I can't wait to lay some clear with my devilbiss

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Was laying down base coat then clear pretty straight forward? I Have really only sprayed the KBS and primer. Also what size nozzle you use for base and clear?

      @@ShenkeGarage yea man pretty easy but was a little bit nervous at 1st because I was worried about mucking up and wasting all that money on materials and time in preparation then explain to everyone that I ruined my car because I'm a shit painter haha but it went down great and looked good for years until I sold it, the trick that worked for me is keeping the gun square to the panel and be consistent with distance from panel and consistent movements and just keep moving don't let it build anywhere on the panels, the supercheap gun had a 1.4 tip and it worked fine for everything from etch primer,high build primer ,base and clear from memory the devilbiss came with a 1.6 and a 1.4 tip I'll still with the 1.4 for everything I might use the 1.6 for the high build next time, plus I only used "concept paints" witch I think is just a cheap generic body shop line of paint it came out great, im going to paint my XY myself soonish I want to try DNA paints for that they have some sweet colours... oh and very important ya need a good compressor and water traps loving the vids too mate

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ok thanks for that. I bought the Devilbiis with a 1.8 tip for primer so I might get a 1.4 for base and clear. I was actually thinking of going a DNA paint. You can get premixed colors and in kit forms for candys which im thinking a candy for mine. I might try doing the engine bay myself and see how that turns out before deciding on painting the outside myself. Also thanks for watching the videos.

    So how much kbs is need to paint a hz Ute chassis? I see the chassis kit they sell only has 1l surely that isn’t enough?

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Mate the chassis kit was enough to give the car 3 coats. So there is a 1 liter can of the chassis paint and then a 500ml can of top coat which has a UV protector in it. so all up its 1.5L

    hi mate about to start my hj tonner build , what steel size and wall thickness is your rear chassis end that you welded in. cheers. looks to be say 75 x 50 and how wide have you cut it.

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mate its 100 x 50 RHS. The length I think it was a little bit shorter than the original cross member. You can just make it any length that you think looks best.

    KBS seems to be very popular down there in Australia, you guys ever use a product called Chassis Saver?

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Its an Australian product so that might be why its popular. I have not herd of Chassis saver. Is that like an internal coating?

    How heavy was the first hit of KBS from the gun and how long until you did your second coat/third with the blacktop? I’m spraying my HX sedan chassis next week with KBS and interested how it goes. Also did much dust/bugs from outside finish in the paint?

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Mate the first coat I thinned down to 10 percent thinners and applied a good coat. I waited roughly 2 hrs in between 1st and 2nd coat and about 3 hrs in between the 3rd and the top coat. There was minimal dust and bugs. Like there was a couple of bugs land on it but I kept a good eye on it and picked them off when they did.

    Did you have to repair the front ends of the chassis? Would love some tips/video on the repair.

    • @ShenkeGarage

      Hey Mate. I did not have to repair the front of the chassis. It was in good shape. There is a video on various repairs on the chassis in the HX one tonner Build playlist.

    • @ShenkeGarage

      Thanks heaps Mate. Good observation. I took the measurement from the chassis rail to chassis rail in case it did do that. When I weld in the new cross member I will make sure this measurement is the same.

    Well done Sam, I was quite agricultural with the removal of my springs also 😂
    How much thinners did you use for the KBS per ml?

    • @ShenkeGarage
      @ShenkeGarage  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Mate. I made up some spring compressors and they worked well but yeah I just dont want to promote making up home made tooling if you dont know what you are doing.
      I used 10 Percent thinners. So I mixed up roughly 500 ML each time so that would be 50 ml of thinners. Also I used the proper KBS thinners.
