Another great video Stace. Boy you have been having lots of fun in your spare time!! Great to see you back into it though. Cant wait for the next episode. Thanks for your inspiration Stace.
As the underside was painted originally, I figured I would do the same, only planning to put a thicker undercoat on the wheel arches. I sprayed primer on then used chassis coat from repco, didn’t bother with kbs myself. Great to see you back on the Ute. Not like you’ve been doing nothing in the meantime anyway. I’m about to put the radiator support back on so I can give the 202 a good run, only had it running for a minute if that. Has a two barrel Holley on it and a lumpy cam and heavy springs. Sounded great with just the extractors on. If the coolant doesn’t leak then I’ll start wire wheeling the wheel arches and putting more back on. School holidays started so I’ve got a couple of weeks to put into it.
@@staceonwheelsalong the side edges as per yours, just sanded the heavy stuff and sprayed rust converter on. Not a lot really. We seem to have similar good cabs. My major rust was the firewall where the rusty plenum had leaked down between the layers and of course replaced the top cowling. Unpicking that and welding it back on was the worst of it.
@oo0Spyder0oo those plenums seem the worst for rust. I have a bit in mine but not enough to pick it apart, and I'm going to get rust converter in there and fishoilene too.
i used etch primer to protect the bare steel on my car then used stone guard and on top of that i painted 2pack black to seal it from road grime and make it easier to clean of grease and oil etc i'd suggest the etch primer then stone guard for yours depends how fussy you are i guess stace years ago i used body shultz horrible stuff not good it stayed soft and oil and grease effects it also it holds moisture so not recommended
Thanks 😁... that's an option I didn't think of. I guess also epoxy could work instead of etch primer? It would make it good practice for painting the rest. Never heard of shultz but glad to avoid it now.
@staceonwheels i used etch primer and put upol gravitex over top pretty quickly.. day or two later. It's rubbery and not shiny at all. Makes a mess everywhere and is hard to get it all out of the bottle. Etch primer is hydroscopic so will not protect metal (maybe better than nothing), epoxy will seal metal so depends how quickly your putting on the topcoat.
@poydapoyderson646 I definitely would use epoxy rather than etch... I can only get short burts of time to work on it. You haven't quite sold me on the messy stuff 🤣!
Any panel beater/ spray painter will tell you that all bare metal should be painted with 2 pack epoxy. As an alternative to 2 pack i POV 15, it can be brushed on or sprayed on, its extremally durable
For me I'd use a 2k primer, then with a 2k topcoat. Works fine on the rest of the car. Paint stripper can be a god send on the shit angles.

So many projects... 🤪😂. Living it sll, and feeling mega lucky.

I'm jealous of your progress Spydey! Great stuff. Did you have any rust to treat under there?

For underbody , look into industrial paints , I would suggest valspar tb540 direct to metal polyurethane . Or a wet on wet epoxy with bully liner .
Thanks, I haven't heard of valspar tb540 so will check it out.

Thanks, I'm sure I've seen some YT video of someone using POV 15... I'll check it out again.
Exactly same as KBS@@staceonwheels
